A good writer would realise that the belly-bursting was not necessary.

Precisely.

A good writer would be able to make the stuff we've seen in the previous movies still work, not resort to making up new shit.

QuoteHow could the idea of worked without being so shallow and insulting Sil? How would you have made that idea work? I'm just curious.

I know you didn't ask me but anyway...

You just don't use it.  If they wanted the PredAlien* to be a Queen, then it should've abducted a few people, hived them then laid eggs so the hugger can impregnate them.  And added egg morphing if they wanted to give it a kick.  The PredAlien* can abandon egg laying in favour of ass kicking later on when the Predator shows up.

* - May its name be forever cursed.

by not using it at all.

To easy.

Any idea can be turned into something good. The filmmakers just didn't think about it enough.

the idea of impregnating an already pregnant women is discusting. i know it would happen but i didn't need to see that. the hole movie was pretty Liam and to think of a little baby being consumed buy little aliens and watching the mothers stomach explode is demented. to think that they couldn't think of a good movie, but could think to show that makes it clear they made the movie for the wrong reasons. it didn't help that my wife was pregnant when i saw this. i wanted to be entertained, not grossed out. there is no way to make this a good idea. just a discusting offensive one.

Most of you stated is personal taste. An alien wants to survive and it will use any means possible to do so. I personally wasn't that affected by the belly busters. It was to silly and over the top. They would've used the less is more effect. I thought the dog scene in Alien 3 was much more disturbing.

A good writer and can make any idea work. Unfortunately, we got a very bad writer on these movies who has no clue how to write.

i know it will survive any means necessary. i know it would happen as read on my previous post read again. and yes the conversation is about taste. the taste for the predation. my point was i didn't need to see it. you probably weren't affected because you've never had a kid, if you had it would effect you a lot. none of that needed to be shown maybe hinted at but not shown. hell lets show a little girl with pigtales chest burst open while she screams and cries in pain. it would happen right so they have to show it in a movie to make it good. no, something should stay unseen. and that scene was one of them.

I have to admit that what I've seen of the pregnant chick impregnation and bursting did gross me out in a way that it wouldn't have before I had children.

A zombie ripping a foetus out of a chick in Braindead was neither here nor there 17 years ago (well it was shocking and gross of course, but Braindead is essentially a comedy; in AvP:Poo it just seems sadistic).

i blame the SAW movies

Pvt. Hicks

The movie was just a numb experience, and the only parts to get a reaction out of me were the obvious man-in-a-suit Alien shots, which were depressing, that they let that in the movie. I even grimaced when that one "Alien" was walking across the power plant, knees bent, moving slowly.

Pfft... Saw Schmaw.

They couldn't have released a film like Saw (and it's sequels and other torture porn flicks) if society wasn't already in a position to sit down and watch it.

Of course it would affect me! It was just poorly done. And sadly when I went to saw it in theaters that death got a lot of laughs.  :-X

Like other posters said before me, it was put in for the sake of shock. Maybe it wasn't meant to be but thats how it turned out. Ive always wanted to see a kid get face-hugged and chest-bursted, but not in the bad acting goofy way they did in the beginning of the movie. As soon as when he shot the face-hugger and the acid tore his arm COMPLETELY off, i knew I was in trouble...

Why?

That sort of thing can be implied without actually showing it.  And from all reports it would've been better to not show it this time. Anakin igniting his sabre in front of the Younglings did the job perfectly without showing him chopping them up.
