QuoteI think somewhere one of the Devs or it was said by someone that the screens were brightened or something to be seen more clearly.
No no no... that's not what I'm talking about. By lighting, I mean an effect similar to what James Cameron used in ALIENS, that bluish lighting that made the colors look washed out under certain conditions. Such as the Pulse Rifle, M577, and Xenomorphs all being brownish. The USCM armor being browns and greens rather than grey.. From the screenshots it looks like GBX simply skipped the unique lighting to make the assets how they 'looked' in the movie. Call it nit picking but for a game that's supposed to be very realistic to the movie...it just bugs me.. a lot.
Well they are also recreating the look of the original film as well, so if you look at the comparison pics then I assume, that's why the overall colour shade is a little less blue in some shots, and closer to ALIEN in some cases.
Also it was not the lighting that gave the movie that washed out bluish tint. Apparently Cameron treated the films print to make it look that way. The marine gear was apparently brown. The treatment made the final movie marine gear appear (like you said) washed out and almost olive green. So its impossible for GBX to recreate that look the truly authentic way since they aren't working on film. I guess they could use a filter of some sort, that gives the same effect, but why tax performance when you can just build everything exactly how it appeared in the final movie?
I did notice the PR looked more green in the brief jace hall footage and in the render shot. And there is that shot with the motion tracker that looks more olive greenish. Also its very likely they these shots were colour adjusted a little afterwards, before releasing them to the press. Besides there's been a lot of time to perfect the look since these old screen were released. I think they are a good starting point.
