the monsters are the stars.

No they aren't. As far as I'm concerned Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skeritt, Ian Holm, Lance Henriksen, Michael Biehn, Bill Paxton, Charles Dance, Charles Dutton, Dan Hedaya, Michael Wincott, Ron Perlman, Winona Ryder, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jesse Ventura, Bill Duke, Gary Busey, and Danny Glover were.

The monsters were never the main focus point.

Thats was in movies where the actors actually mattered, and they're performance was excellent made you want to see them to the end. Plus those actors are legends (now and than) Biehn,Paxton,Henriksen, they were in good movie before aliens + they were in Terminator.  Ventura was a wrestler. They made a name for them self before aliens.
The entire Alien franchise all 4 films were primarily on getting out alive and for Ripley to take a leading role and safe people. Those emotional moments are gone now. This film is focused on f**king things up and killing one another. And the characters give out such a poor performance it's like they aren't even there or wish they'd just die sooner so the good part of the movie can start.

Miss the old days......

But they are in an VS movie, people go to see the creatures fight when you come down to it.
I agree about the other movies though, alien and predator (the creatures i mean) were just part of a story, but this story is all about alien and predator, so they are indeed the stars.

Simple when in pred and alien films, humans are the main stars. When togather the creatures are the stars.

QuoteBut they are in an VS movie

That doesn't matter.  Is there some law written that says that VS movies have to be soulless, cash-in movies?  No.  If Fox actually had any balls they would have made an effort to make this movie just as serious as any stand alone Alien or Predator movie.  To his credit I think Paul Anderson actually tried to do that with the first AVP but he failed.  AVP-R doesn't even look like it's trying.  It's perpetrating the stereotype that VS movies shouldn't be taken seriously and have no real cinematic value.

No, but i personally think they ever will even if you try very hard to do it 100% serious.
Thats why i laugh when i hear some fans saying "well, if james cameron directed this..." f**k that, he would fail non the less, because a VS movie has to have fights in it with 2 rubber monsters, and it will never be 100% serious. This movies will always be action flicks, and i go to the cinema and enjoy the movies for what they are, others dont, hence why so many will be disappointed.

A Vs movie will never be a 150 minutes space opera, and it doesnt have to be.

People still put effort into movies?

Yeah, sad but true.
The times are over where there were born 3-5 classic movies a year, now we only get average shit with 1 or 2 good movies a year.... and they are wondering why people watching pirated movies instead of going to the cinemas these days.

I think the story is more impornt then acting or CGI. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (The orignal movie)didn't have the best acting but it was still a great movie.

no i would freek out and try to get away.

It depends. If you're not prepared for it, real terror tends to make people freeze in place.

'Jurassic Park' is a great example of that. Look at the reactiosn to the Rex. Then, most of all, look at how the kids act with the raptors.

On the other hand, if your'e already in a crazy, war-type situation, with all kinds of stuff going on around you (assuming that you are already on the move), then you're more likely to go on the run.

Being cornered in a dark place of shadows, however, will make most people react by paralysing in fear. Especially if looks as truly alien to our expectations as the Alien (or unmasked Predator) would do.

Yeah, great example. I was 9 when that came out, and I was so terrified when the Rex was knocking that car around with the kids inside. I was afraid to drive at night with my family.

Well you see with acting, the way I look at it is it doesn't matter how a character reacts, but it their reaction is believable. For example, it might be in Hudson's character to freak out or maybe he'll act tough, usually these motives of how the character should react are given by a director, but its their job to sell the performance.

Actors can be heavily limited by the script as well  :-\

The monsters create the tone and act as antagonists, but if you don't care about who falls to them then it's all for naught.
I agree.
