Were there any scenes from the trailers or anywhere that weren't in the final film?
So far I've got Julian Black Antelope who plays Chief Kehetu saying some of his scenes were cut out.
QuoteMy character, Chief Kehetu had his own storyline, which involved another character named Wasape, played by Stormee Kipp. It was kind of like the changing of the guard, so to speak, my character was well on his way out the door, he was dying, crippled and needed to find a successor to pass the torch onto, and so his eyes were always on the males traditionally; never ever considered a female. Rather than pull the focus from Amber Midthunder's character, from Naru's storyline, they chose to just focus everything on her. Which is totally understandable. But there was quite a bit of scenes that were cut back with Chief Kehetu that would be cool to see, but I still think everyone's going to be super pumped for what they get to see.
There's a quick shot of Feral loading/dropping a bolt into the spear gun that's not in the film.
The bit with Naru saying "whatever's out there, I can kill it" when she's in the cage was removed. And I think her "I'm trying to protect you/protect me from what?" exchange with Taabe was cut too wasn't it? The scene was there, but I don't remember her saying that line.

Yeah they mention the Warchief being sick early in the film still but it never comes up again.
I wondered if something was missing there myself.
The French trappers already knowing about the Predator felt like a subplot that was trimmed back a lot too. It was kinda jarring to have that one guy just go up to her and be like "what do you know about this creature?/I think it's looking for the strongest prey", when we'd had no indication whatsoever that Feral had encountered them at any point in the movie yet.

I took the first red explosions witnessed by Naru when facing the lion as that indication.
Yeah I guess in retrospect that must have been it, though at the time I took it as him closing in on the lion.
Given that we got some cool scenes of Feral on his own hunting stuff (the wolf scene was great) I just felt like it would have made that moment feel a bit more "earned" if we'd cut away at some point to some sort of encounter between some of those trappers and Feral (maybe they arrive just in time to see him hanging some of their skinned buddies up from a tree and see him leaping away, etc.), rather than feeling like them knowing all about him came out of nowhere.
I imagine it's mostly because they didn't want the trappers to be properly revealed until Naru is captured by them, but it definitely made that part feel a little "off" to me.
Was there a scene with the predator in front of the cave like the trailer/poster? Maybe I just missed it.
Yeah we saw him using some sort of spray to "melt" the skin off the wolf's skull after he kills it, then he stand up when he hears Sarii barking and heads out to fight the bear.

Here is another one from trailer that didn't make final cut.

How do you know that's what he said? I tried turning on subtitles and all I got was French.
That's what he's saying to Naru in English.

Besides those lines being English, some people do speak French.
#releasethetrachtenbergcut :p
If there's no Blu-Ray, so no good way to see these scenes

I know, I was just asking if there was something I wasn't doing right to see the translation.
I watched the movie not understanding anything the trappers were saying.
A lot of it is just insults and panicked shouting. The guy at the end is telling Naru he'll put a bullet in her head before he gets killed for example.
Funny how they made the worst french speaker one of the main french trappers
@BigDaddyJohn, I have a question: what does "salopard" mean ?
Bastard.
Hey now, no need to get mad at him for asking a simple question! ;)

I agree! Upon second viewing, in my head I told myself that he had a run-in with some of the French-men and set off that first bomb in the woods at night.

I wish this was actually part of the film, thinking about it more now. I love Naru's character, the development is great but what was lacking a bit was a bit more humanity between her and the tribe. It would have added more to the urgency of her being a great hunter. Like her mom said, its not about the glory but for the sake of survival. Seeing how the Predator posed a threat to possibly her tribe and after what it did to her brother, it would have added a more emotional weight into her journey in becoming a great hunter-warrior. If there is a director's cut, I hope we get those scenes, this would defiantly add to it.
I think there's definitely a piece of the film missing between the Predator chasing Naru then her turning up in the cage.
Because we jump straight to the bait scene. Feels like the movie needed down time to explain the french guys and set the next act up.
I think it's done to keep the pace going because once we hit the bear sequence the movie basically never lets up.
That's both a good and bad thing.
Yeah I would have liked to see how it is the trappers were aware of the Predator being out there. Because how it's cut now, just makes it look like they all meet up at the same time.

I think you could honestly get around it with a few throw away lines. Like the chief or her brother saying " the trappers/white men are on our land again" or Naru talking about the bear traps.
Etc , something like that.
When, hopefully, the 4k is released it would be great to see deleted material. I'm not expecting an extended cut or anything.
I feel like a lot of what I disliked about Prey is probably fixed in any sort of extended cut. Mostly in regards to the trappers because it does feel like something is missing there.
Not to say that Prey is bad but that it's a case where an extended cut would make for an even better movie. Probably the way it is for pacing because it does not let up, but if we had a slower burn and got all the material I feel it would still work. And given the reception I hope they do consider an extended cut. It looks like a case where they could justify it.

I felt they could have added another half an hour to flesh things out a bit more without the movie feeling bloated and overlong.
Dane DiLiegro mentions (https://bloody-disgusting.com/interviews/3727259/prey-meet-dane-diliegro-the-latest-actor-to-play-the-iconic-predator-interview/) a tree-chase scene that was scripted and pre-vized but ultimately cut.
Quote"There was a tree chase scene in the script; I saw it pre-vis. It eventually got cut; I'm not sure why. But we were going to be running on tree branches and jumping from branch to branch, me chasing [Amber Midthunder]. They ultimately removed that from principal photography. But I was very concerned because it would've been interesting to run on tree branches with the head on and wires and everything."
