The Predator.
Predator 2 just hasn't aged well for me. Predator is a jungle hunter, I never cared for the city as a backdrop in a predator film. Leave the cities to batman. A bunch of Jamaican gangsters don't have anything on elite soldiers either.
Predators at least tried to stay within the same spirit as the original, but improved upon it vastly with the game preserve idea. And aside from Topher Grace's awful presence, it's only grown better with age. There's no cryo guns, no crawling up buildings like the creature from the black lagoon, nowhere near as much cheesy acting, no bathroom medical scene with granny one-liners and her broom. Not to mention City Hunter was about half a freakin' idiot, getting whupped by a cop and dropping gear left and right while running for home.
All in all, I find Predators to be a much more serious film, pitting much more serious and capable characters against more serious predators. For all its shortcomings, the more I watch it, the better it seems to get. It brought a lot of interesting new ideas that didn't take away from the lore, and I hope we get to return there someday.

Predator 2 is easily my favorite sequel of the bunch. I know I enjoyed The Predator more than Predators but I'm trying to remember why... :P
Predator 2. Didn't care for the Predators in predators. Nothing on Stan Winston's designs. And it just tried to rip too much from the original. The mud scene, the russian with the huge gun, the theme song.

I've watched Predators since viewing The Predator and I can't say it makes me enjoy or appreciate Predators more. I wholeheartedly agree, The Predator is way more entertaining, has less dull characters and doesn't try as hard as Predators to pay hommage to the first movie in a stupid way. Though The Predator has plenty of stupid in other departments ;D

I enjoy Predators much more than The Predator, but it may because I had already liked Predators to begin with :laugh: Didn't need any convincing on my part. Would have liked Crucificed to have had as much screen time as Fugitive though. Fugitive seems to be the only saving grace of The Predator, and some of the interactions between the Loonies. Will say though that The Predator did well in giving us some character development that was actually meaningful (which seemed to be lacking in all of the previous Predator films). That part where Coyle and Baxley looke at each other before dying :'(

Predators has a lot going for it, and has definitely grown on me since my first theatrical viewing so long ago. But I think it would have faired better for many of us if it hadn't fallen in such trappings.

No, no. When it comes to conveying dread and suspense, there is such a thing as showing too much. The little we saw from Billy's last stand was just perfect. :)

For me is the First Predator the most atmospheric and thrilling part. It is a masterpiece of moviemaking for me. But I also have to say, it works best, if you see it the first time. You dont know what's going on and what that creature is.
But the predator movie that I have seen most, is Predator 2. I think that movie expands the predators best. It works for me as an action movie with some humor very well and I also love the style of it. LA is the best summer heat hot spot for predators to hunt. I love the first shootout against these crazy drug gang. There is also this aztecig gang style, that gives the city this jungle touch. And I also loved Danny Glover how he handles his job with a trunk full of weapons.
I also like Predators, but this movie is for me too much a turn back to the original one. I think, that movie would have been worked much better on an strange Riddik like planet. I miss the big there-is-no-way-out feeling in that movie.

Many of us feel 1990's "Predator 2" would be a much more favorable score if it was released today compared to much of the dreck that is made these days ("The Predator" even has a higher rating than P2! Sheesh!) Alas, going into hypotheticals is ultimately like discussing the mural and will get me nowhere. ;)

I wasn't even aware of the saving issue. I do have a updated/remixed version of Fear 3 on my computer though, which I just never released for some reason.

That is not true. That started in the first Dark Horse Comic Series. The Alien skull in the end is a tribute to this. And Paul Anderson got also some inspiration from that series for AvP.

P2 tells it's own story, has a great cast and is hilarious.
Predators apes too much of original and didn't do enough w Predator planet to make it unique.
TP at least tried to expand on the mythos and the misfits were more memorable than Predators crew.

Agreed, i always bring this point forward in discussions about The Predator compared to P's.
Predators was better reviewed but fan opinion seems to favor Predator 2. I think they are both decent films with thier own flaws.
I think most can agree that The Predator is definitely bad or at least too much of a mess to like. It seems to be the oppposite of the Predator 2 where it seems to be critically reviewed better, but a lot of fans hate it.

I liked the Predators cast for the most part. Especially Royce. He just had this lethal aura and he did not talk around the fact he was a killer and he didn't do it for duty, money etc but just because he enjoys to kill.
