I just saw a high res pic of the unmasked predator on Empire online seems like these predators don't have quills, either on their face or body. It's like they've been waxed. It was a unique feature of the predators wonder why they took it out.
Because ADI just doesn't know how to make Predators, it seems.

Agreed. I like more of a blend between tribal and stylised tech, the ADI predators always looked a bit too clean compared to the Winston ones.
I imagine the quills are something related to gentics. Some Predators have them, others don't. Maybe it's related to age? Or health?

Paul Anderson used the word "heroic" because Scar was intended as more of an anti-hero.
But the faults with that Predator are not just that he has longer dreds and human eyes. The former wouldn't even be an issue.
It's the structure of the lower jaw, the texture of the skin is absolutely off. Even with the creative changes in place, the skin is just wrong. It looks like dry foam rubber. It lacks all of the moisture and leathery qualities of the first two Predators. The KNB guys made a few mistakes of their own, but that wasn't one of them. Their classic Predator looked a lot closer to proper.
This is what I was afraid of with ADI, unfortunately. They just don't know how to pull off the convincing skin, and knowing ADI I betcha the quills were simply eliminated because they were a pain in the ass (for some reason).
I was more referencing Tom Woodruff as he and someone else (forget their name) explained why they made the dreads longer which was to make the leading character more "romantic". But no, longer dreads are not at all an issue.
I don't think the Empire still of the maskless Predator looked bad, though the missing quills/eyebrows is disappointing. Maybe it's just that particular Predator or that picture.

yeah paul anderson downplayed the predators because he was more of an alien fan.
I always associated quills with elder Preds because of the crazy quills on the elder in AVP, so I just assume the captive Pred isn't that old.
