These types of films fascinate me.
You know the ones...mostly they are Italian films with English dubbing but others are low budget American sci-fi movies.
For the most part, they try to emulate the original movie.
I own three of them on blu-ray and I've made it my life mission to collect all of them once released on blu-ray just for fun. :)
Here are the ones I own :
Alien 2

Contamination (Also known as Alien Contamination) :

Galaxy of Terror :

Anyone seen any of these?
Bravo! You have excellent taste in lurid junk.
I don't have any of these - wish I did.
-Windebieste.
Wasn't the "Alien 2: On Earth" movie just an Italian attempt at "Aliens"? Thought it got canceled, let alone be on Blu-Ray.
I hope this is an appropriate section for this topic. 1979's Alien was a game-changer as we all know. And it didn't take long for filmmakers to start churning out cash-ins inspired by the Alien formula.
James Cameron himself even worked on some of these projects before moving on to his success with The Terminator and of course, Aliens.
Here are some examples that I can think of right off the top of my head.
I'd really like to know of any more, other than the films I have listed here. I enjoy watching them.

Mutant (aka Forbidden World) - A fun movie. The creature, as you can see in this poster is very much like the one brought onto the Nostromo from LV-426. If you haven't seen it, it's available to watch free on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=go1eQlpyAaI

Return of the Aliens: The Deadly Spawn - an all-time favorite of mine. This is not so much a 'rip-off' of Alien, but they did attempt to capitalize with the 'Return of the Aliens' nudge. Very good movie, though. I highly recommend it. It also has a sequel called 'Metamorphosis: The Alien Factor' which is very entertaining as well.

I haven't seen this one yet, either. Just learned of it, actually. It is apparently an almost blatant rip-off of Aliens, but with a tinge of Terminator, and it was promoted in Europe as 'Terminator 2.' It's primary title now is Shocking Dark. Also on YouTube. Gonna check it out soon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ca1N4hFFQk
Those look really cool. Thank you for sharing!
I always liked Moon 44, which def. has the LV426 feel to it, even tho there are no Aliens of any kind
Where did my original post go? The result of merging gone wrong?
At any rate, yeah, I own three of them : Contamination, Alien 2 and Galax of fear on blu-ray.
Hah! I was wondering the same thing... I did reply to it. I Looove this shit. Not because it's any good. Rather, I love it because it's bad.

Ah, Roger Corman... one of the truly great film makers. A man who genuinely understands the real value of exploitation cinema.
After all, he did give us 'Sharktopus'.

Now, if NECA would care to make an action figure of sharktopus, I would buy it. Especially if it came with wire core tentacles and a bikini clad accessory.

Definitely. Especially Dawn Dunlap :o
I just remembered this one, also. Circa 1996 or so?
Death Machine. It has a total Aliens vibe. Cool movie. It was on Netflix, recently, but not sure if it's still there:

Forbidden World (Mutant) was remade in 1991, featuring a young Bryan Cranston. It was titled

Can't believe Galaxy of Terror isn't on that list.
Watching Dead Space, so tacky. So glorious.
^ It seems like a tacky movie, will add to the list of need to watch. The poster looks cool too.
I take back what I said about glorious. It never picks up and is thoroughly boring. The alien itself looks nothing like the poster beyond the head.
Followed up with Mutant, which had been on the list for a long time. Much better than Dead Space! More gore, more trash, more entertaining.

I actually watched this on the big screen in 1980...(much to my shame)...all part of having dragged people to watch 'ALIEN' the year before and was having withdrawal symptoms.
Best bowling-alley climax till 'There Will Be Blood' in 2007.
This was always one of my favorite rip-offs.
I don't recall the movie being as campy as the trailer implied, but I was a stupid teenager when I saw it so maybe I just had lower standards back then.
Movies physically change as they get older. They grow warts and funny hair styles. They mutate and change while you don't watch them. They become something else other than what they once were.
I can testify to this because, your memory - like mine - is infallible... and what's more, how can we both be wrong?
The truth is, movies mutate over time. They change while we aren't watching until they emerge, pretending that the viewer has changed; and yet so many people will say "I remember this movie differently."
How can so many people be so wrong? I tell you, it's the movies that change. Movies will modify themselves over the years, wear funny clothes and mutate into something ugly. They shift their content, ambience and political sensibilities while you are not looking.
It's the only explanation when everyone is wowed by such cinematic spectacles 20 years ago and today these same spectacles have become laughable in everyone's eyes.
Don't trust movies, I tell you. They will stab you in the back one day. lol.
-Windebieste.
Despite its numerous flaws, Alien 3 doesn't seem dated to me. The puppetry effects were always awful, but it's otherwise still a beautiful film to look at and shaved heads never go out of style.
In fact, I think it's aged better than Aliens has.
Of all the movies, 'ALIEN 3' has actually aged the best. It's got a lot to do with great art direction and very little present in the way of the depiction of technology - which is right up front in all the other movies.
As for the dodgy lighting on the puppets that don't match the backgrounds they are composited onto, there's nothing there that can't be addressed with today's digital technology. Which is a kind of irony, actually.
-Windebieste.
I think all 3 films have aged really well compared to other films that came out in those years.

Alien Resurrection too I guess, as much as I dislike that film, it has some really nice cinematography. The cgi aliens were dated looking upon release though lol.
...also known as 'Deadly Spawn 2'...
(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gstatic.com%2Ftv%2Fthumb%2Fdvdboxart%2F54798%2Fp54798_d_v8_aa.jpg&hash=5fef683ca49442c942c2d11324528746f79e994a)
"Metamorphosis: The Alien Factor is the unofficial sequel to the obscure low budget 80's gore fest known as The Deadly Spawn. The Deadly Spawn was an extremely low budget indie horror film that was made by a bunch of very talented creative people who one day decided to get together and do a horror movie on their own; with their friends and collegues as actors. They shot the film with their own money, during the weekends. Basically, The Deadly Spawn is what happens when a bunch of sci-fi/horror fans get together to do a film about what they love, monsters! To its credit, I will say that even though The Deadly Spawn was a low budget affair, and technically it does have its faults, it's a very creative film, and I applaud those guys for having made such a cool little film with so little. Ted A. Bohus was the producer of that project, which I consider a gem of indie horror, I mean, this film is indy horror in the truest sense. After their first film venture (which surfaced on VHS during the 80s) they decided to try and do the sequel. Thing is that even though this "sequel" plays with the same premise of aliens coming down to earth to munch on humans, this second film is completely unrelated to the first one story wise. Ted A. Bohus originally intended to do a straight sequel, but ended up doing this slightly more ambitious (but still well within b-movie territory) sequel. It was made with a bit more money then their first film. What was the result? "
Man...all these 80's and 90's movies are depressing me..I beg you to stop them please :-\

Thanks mate. I do appreciate that ;)
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the two competing "It's Alien, but in the ocean!" movies, both released in 1989 (which, incidentally, is the same year Cameron released The Abyss). Or maybe they're not considered obscure enough.
Watched Galaxy of Terror. This isn't an Alien rip off, it's Forbidden Planet with Alien set dressing!
Wanted to watch it for a long time and glad I did. Bizarre but entertaining movie.
True. I really enjoyed maggot rape scene, but the names of characters and planets are more then terrible.
Shocking Dark Terminator 2 Alienators is quite possibly one of the worst films I've ever seen, with sequences lifted shit for shoot from Aliens but with none of the talent.
'My mother said monsters don't exist. But it's not true.'
'Well, honey, the truth is sometimes bad things happen.'
Glorious.
Leviathan is a great alien ripoff, I've always liked that one.
Deep Star 6 is a guilty pleasure for me, but its pretty terrible.

The funny thing is that James Cameron released The Abyss later that same year and even though it wasn't a monster movie, I was already tired of the general premise by then thanks to DeepStar Six and Leviathan.
Got a brand new one for you dogs, tell me this doesn't have some similarities to ALIEN. I can find several off one look so far.

Out of all the ones mentioned in this thread, I've only seen
Leviathan and
DeepStar Six. Can't remember being especially enthralled by either, although, "Say 'ah', motherf**ker!" is a gloriously naff one-liner. Of the two
Leviathan was definitely better, I can't really remember anything about
DeepStar Six except that Miguel Ferrer explodes.
I also saw a bit of
Inseminoid years ago, but I thought it was kinda crap so I turned it off. If I'd realised it's
Alien tendencies at the time I might've stuck with it.
I've been wanting to see

Parasite -Recently traded for an old VHS of this. I knew it would be right up my alley. It is a very early Charles Band production, and also stars a very young Demi Moore. It takes place in a post-apocalyptic landscape where a scientist is on the run from a corporation, as he is the creator of a parasitic weapon. One of those parasites happen to be growing in his stomach, and there is a a head-bursting sequence.

It's not really an
Alien rip-off, but you should check out
Outland because visually it looks exactly like
Alien (a lot of the same production crew worked on it). I mean it could literally be taking place at the same time in a different part of space. Not a bad movie either, although it's not horror.
Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone, I'll have to give some of them a try.
Forbidden World aka. Mutant is one of my favorite (and guilty pleasure as it is). It has absolutely great lead character and babes. Some scenes are decent too.
In Galaxy of Terrors the crew are bunch of halfwits, on pair with Prometheus. It has biggest production value ( and Lifeforce), wih really stunning sets, but that's all I can say about it being good. Well actually gigant maggot rape scene is good too.

Indeed. They could literally transplant Sean Connery's character into an Aliens prequel about the infestation of the colony and he wouldn't seem even slightly out of place.

Though, someone should have let Jerry Goldsmith know that, because his score sounds like a continuation of some of the stuff he did in Alien. Creepy, unsettling. There's even bits and pieces of his motifs from Alien in there. The one that sticks out is you can hear bits that sound like they come right out of the EGG chamber sequence.
Also, I do love Leviathan. I just wish the ending wasn't so by-the-number and silly... And
Spoiler
Ernie Hudson shoulda lived!
Love Outland, I might pick up the blu ray at some point.

Galaxy of Terror
Make up your own mind, there's this scene involving a giant maggot that has some cult following.
Not an Alien film, but check out the first Pumpkin Head movie. It's made by Stan Winston and the creature FX looks fantastic for a B movie. Pumpkin Head basically has a Xenomorphs body with a pumpkin shaped head. Like I said it's not a space monster but a demon from hell out for revenge, that looks very xenomorph ish. Also has Lance henriksen in it and the plot is decent.

After ALIEN(Ridley Scott), THE THING(John Carpenter) is the greatest movie of all time.
What does that have to do with anything?
In his defense, I don't think it can ever be overstated how great The Thing is.
I concur with Local as well.
Sure, but it's neither an Alien rip-off nor an Alien requel.
When "The Thing" was on FirstChoice and Superchannel in Canada during the 80s, it came with a warning of Extreme Graphic Violence prior to it airing.
Awesome movie.
Did it induce paranoia?
Hybrid (1997) - probably only worth watching for the lesbian shower scene. It has a creature attacking a combat unit in an abandoned base on a post-apocalyptic Earth.

Well it's just a plain W, so likewise I imagine it'd be hard to claim copyright.
It's styled and colored exactly the same as the W in the Weyland-Yutani logo though.
Yeah, but it's still just a letter W.
More to the point, I've seen The Rig, and I doubt Fox cared lol.

I hate Asylum, those gits have no respect for others or any standards. They should be arrested for deception and conning, because that is how they get their money. They make the product's name and image as similar as possible in order to trick people into buying their crap. They are parasites.
Yeah, the laughter comes from not being able to believe they get away with something so blatant.
The rage comes from how utterly devoid of merit the shit they make is.
I hear that they are actually from an established studio, Village I think.
There needs to more powers given to certain studios to permanently stop Asylumm ripping them off. One studio/director managed to stop them but it was temporary if I recall.

I see that 'Lifeforce' got mentioned, but I wouldn't want to call that an Alien rip-off. It's a batshit crazy movie about space vampires. Well, maybe the beginning in space where they enter the abandoned alien ship.
'Life' on the other hand is a total (but pretty decent) rip-off of Alien and 'Pitch Black' borrows a lot from Aliens as well.
The first act of Lifeforce definitely has an Alien-vibe, but once they get to Earth it's hard to label it a rip-off.

It's more akin to Invasion of the Body Snatchers, but with space vampires.
When I was a little kid, I watched
Alien from the Deep (original Italian title: "Aliens del Abismo", French title: "Alien : La Créature des Abysses") and the French title was even more misleading than the other ones, meaning literally Alien : The creature from the abysses".
So I honestly thought this terrible, terrible movie was somehow PART OF THE ALIEN SERIES. I was convinced of it for YEARS. Until I was 16 or something I was still trying to reconcile it with the Alien lore and timeline.

"Requiem" -a horrendous rip-off.
There is a game called Event 0. You are the only human alive inside a spaceship and you have to find out what happened with the rest of the crew. Your only company is, as you might suspect, an artificial intelligence called Kaizen. So yeah, the Alien side of the force is strong with this one...

I saw it once, ages ago, and all I remember is the guy sawing his own arm off with the rock saw.

Really liked all those movies from the 90's. They are flawed clearly, but nontheless really enjoyable in their own way.

Absolutely! I'd have to say tho, I probably enjoyed Mimic the most out of all of them, especially the Director's Cut

I agree, I actually think it's the best of the bunch.
"Best", quite possibly.

Haha, yeah, fair enough ;D
Can't go wrong with Treat Williams constantly saying "Now what?" when things go awry

Indeed. The Relic is the most underrated imo. Particularly because the monster in that film is the most badass creature design I'd seen in a film at the time

Stan Winston's craft smith's skills right there !
Never got the love for The Relic monster. The design is just... meh.
Yeah, the face is cool, but overall it doesn't blow me away.

From about 2:30 to 4:00. Bit of an obscure one (to say the least)!
I always thought the design of the kothoga from The Relic would have made for a better predator hound than either of the ones we've actually gotten so far. The mouth is similar enough to suggest it might have resulted from the same evolutionary advantage that gave the predators their distinctive mandibles, but different enough to avoid looking like someone just grafted their own face onto their dog.
I quite liked the hunting hounds in Predators. The ones in The Predator, not so much.
Yep, the dreads were... Dreadful ;D
Don't get much more ripoff than this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfvMi-bhuv0
I hate it when they reveal the whole movie in a trailer, not that I'm gonna be watching that.
Any films remind you of Alien for no apparent reason?
This trailer always played when I wanted to watch one of the films on the Quadrilogy DVD in the UK:
https://youtu.be/EXiNVFmv0UU
So the phrase "God only knows where I'd be without you." Always reminds me of Alien.
Does Queen Slug For A Butt counts as rip-off of Alien Queen ?

Maybe, but to be fair Queen Slug for a Butt was just a ripoff of termites.
You can say that about Alien Queen herself
Oh I LOVE this thread! I'm gonna start watching some of these now! :D Found some active links on YouTube haha!

The Relic is an underrated film. Glad it came up.

There's not, empathy's an underrated quality.

Giger liked the Newborn design. So you have something in common with The Father of the Xenomorph.
Just not the regular boyos.

Man, this reminds me of this concept art from H.R Giger (https://d7hftxdivxxvm.cloudfront.net/?quality=80&resize_to=width&src=https%3A%2F%2Fartsy-media-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com%2FZSdVdWTD35VWUErVM2atRQ%252F1978-B-370%2B%2BAlien%2BIII%252C%2BSide%2BView%2BII.jpg&width=450)
But let's be honest there's so many differences we can point out but the big one we can agree on is that the concept art was made with heart and this movie doesn't

Hey look, new Romulus trailer just dropped !

I finally watched Alien 2 tonight. The whole thing's on YouTube.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pLF1siPVesIt has a few fun moments and some decent music, but it's extremely slow-paced and always feels like it's cutting corners. You could probably chop it down to a 30-minute fan edit without sacrificing anything important.
From IMDb:
QuoteThe first draft of the screenplay was much more ambitious and expensive than what was ultimately filmed. The story would have featured pieces of a spaceship and an alien falling to Earth (the implication would have been that it was the remains of the Nostromo and Xenomorph from Alien (1979) as it was meant to be a "sequel"). These fragments of the Alien would infect people who came into contact with them and cause chaos in the city. A good budget was given to the director but a lot of the money was squandered on a new car, visits to casinos, a vacation to Cannes, and the services of lady escorts. With only a small percentage of the budget remaining and the investors refusing to give the director more money, the script had to be scaled back, resulting in the cave setting, the lack of an actual alien present on camera and only the basic elements of the spaceship landing on Earth and pieces of the Alien infecting people being used in the final film.
That's such a bummer. If the director hadn't been a sleazy idiot, this could have been a really fun, cheesy footnote in the franchise's history. But as it is, it's so boring that it's not worth remembering.
