I loved this novel and have to say it is the best novel/comic in the AvP universe. The story is perfect with a well developed colony, predator, and aliens that all fit into the story very well, and not overdone. Especially the fight between the Predator and the Queen.
Completley Badassin'!
I personly think it is the best out of the three origianls. (Prey, Hunters Planet, War)
Whats your take on this novel.
it was okay.
I seem to recall the Queen got killed by having her head chopped off by a pressure door? Is this correct? Really lame, if that was the case.
True...but overall it was a good story.
This book rocks! I work in a library and naturally read a lot, not just scifi but all kinds. This book was good enough to stand alone and still be good.
The story is orginal, compelling, and the characters have depth. The book was the best in all the series. I've read all the AvP books, most of the Aliens ones, and half the Predator ones, and this was the best.
Fans should check out Hunter's Planet. It was a good book, but not as good, and it got kinda weird, but its still okay.
War, the 3rd one, took place in between the first 2, and totally sucked. It's incredibly anticlimactic to read in order.
I also recomend the Perry's Alien trilogy, as well as Aliens: DNA War, the first new one by Diane Carey. Have yet to read her second though...
Could never get into it.
QuoteThe story is orginal
In that it was an adaptation.

Think s/he means just the story itself. ;)

That's not entirely correct. Hunter's Planet and War are alternate versions of the same story. War was written first (in comic form) but for some reason they went with Hunter's Planet (which had elements of War but was mostly original) for the novelisation instead.
As for Prey, while I do like it I think it suffers from what most AVP stories do: it simply puts some Predators into a virtual re-hash of Aliens. Like it or loathe it, at least the AVP movie borrowed equally from both franchises.

Prey was much better than AvP in my opinion.
AvP borrowed more from Prey than either franchise.

In what way?
Predators subjugate Aliens and use them to hunt as a rite of passage.
Humans caught in the middle of fighting Predators and Aliens.
Predator teams up with lithe girl from a western minority.
Japan is a western minority?
Besides the teamup with Machiko, thats the only material I thought was in AvP. All the other elements are typical Aliens vs Predator material.
Still its bettter than AVP by a long shot.

Anyone who isn't white in the US is generally labelled as a minority.
Correction, anyone who isn't a white male in the US is labeled as a minority.
Yeah - probably chuck straight in too for good measure..

Its true I'm a minority for being HALF jewish!! lolz
I have not read the novel. Does this novel take place from this comic book? I think I still have three of the 4 issues plus I bought the comic book that has all 4 issues together in one book.

Yeah it's the same story as the original AVP comic book miniseries.
Ello Ello.
I read AvP: PREY Comic and Book form (which took me a millenia to find >>) and in my opinion the book rocks effing socks. Loved it. Also, though, I Luurve the AvP film. But in my opinion, the comic had trouble capturing what the book did. Still, was decent (I read it first) but the book as awsometastic. :D
Was wondering. Is there a book based on the AvP MOVIE?? ???

that's how it was in the original crossover comic.
i read the comic first and loved it, then followed up with prey which completely filled in so many gaps and unanswered questions. i liked how perry added so many extra tidbits such as machiko's childhood and the extra scene where she killed the predator outside the door right before her and dachande went for the final assault. the fact that he explained how the un-blooded were left with no guidance to fend for themselves made so much more sense then trying to get that from the comic. now i only look back at the comic for the art.
Awesome novel, and yeah, probably the best one out of the series. Broken Tusk was amazing. I read the novel first and then the comic, I thought the novel was waay better, it just let me picture it the way I wanted to imagine it.

ye i think because the novel was had more from the predators side of things it was more of a success in my eyes, im now reading war and im completely confused, i was expecting a sequal to hunters planet and was like wtf? speaking of hunters planet does any one know which comic it was based on?
I think that was an original idea by the author, but Im not too sure. There is a comic story arc featuring Machiko's betrayel of the Predator pack tho.
I wish they made that AVP film, based off of this and the original comic, back in the early 90's.
Dont we all? As far as Im concerned, that story is the true AVP, and the rest is just immitation.
