I don't know why anybody would buy this. It doesn't even have any of the special features found on the second disc of the DVD.
Here's a good review: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/showthread.php?p=3054677
I just purchased this today, its amazing, crystal sharp. and the Hi Def sound is great as well. while you're right about the special features being limited, the experience is well worth the price.
I'm not going to buy A blue ray until they stop selling Dvds(whenever that'll be). I don't see any point in it besides better quality.
Well, the problem is that DVDs are still great. This Blueray and HD-DVD stuff just came too soon. I'll be buying DVDs for as long as they make them which should be still for a long time yet.
Yeah same here. How much do blue rays cost anyway?
Depends. The films are between £15 to £20.
Uh nvm there around 30 or more here.

Could you post up some screen caps? The only thing that appeals to me about the Playstation 3 is the ability to watch the Alien films in super resolution.
Imagine
Aliens... That film needs a facelift.
True, it seemed that the alien quadrilogy set was cleaned up and remastered very well, but Aliens diddnt get the full treatment It needed. I dont know where to find comparison screens, but be assured, blu-ray is a whole different experience from DvD, I guess it also depends on your setup, but if you have a good one, it is well worth the price.
Dunno if there's much can be done with Aliens. it was shot on a grainier film stock.
what the hell is blue ray? :-[

Well it's the future... lol
QuoteAn HD-DVD format that uses a 405nm-wavelength blue-violet laser technology, to be compared with the 650nm-wavelength red laser technology in use in traditional DVD format. The rewritable Blu-ray disc can store up to 27GB of data on a single-sided single layer disc (compared to the traditional DVD's 4.7GB capacity), which is approximately 12 hours of standard video and/or more than 2 hours of High-Definition video. It has a data transfer rate of 36Mbps. ...
Wish Fox supported HD-DVD aswell.. I got a HD-DVD player dirt cheap and want to put off buying a BluRay player as long as possible. :)
so you need a blue ray player in order to play blue ray cd´s? >:(

Unfortunately yes.. and they aren't cheap at all. The PS3 has one built in, but that b*tch is $600...
wow! thats too expensive! :o maybe in 7 years i can bought one :D
It doesnt take long.
I bought first gen DVD player and spent that much money for a dvd player. In 1-2 years later they dropped alot. Give it one more year and everyone will start owning one.
Buying a PS3 or a XBOX360 with HD DVD player is a great cheap way of getting it early.
Hell you can buy the HDDVD player for 200 dollers and run the movies off your computer.
Just a warning. Once you start watching HD movies.. you dont even wanna see a normal dvd movie again.
I actually have Predator 1 and Alien in HD. Alien looks fantastik for such an old film.
Predator 1 looks great too but theres some sounds missing and the sounds are different. Its really odd. Ah well Great to see those great old films in nice picture.
Ah who needs blue ray. Qualitys good and all but, I'll wait a few years until Dvds become obsolete completely.

HOLY.. how do you have Alien and Predator in HD??? I NEEEEEEEEEEED that.. like a drug man! :P PM me?
The PS3 is a steal...the cheapest blue ray player i found was about $1000 or more. Which is way too damn much.
Just so you know its officially spelt BLU-ray, without the E.
Wish Fox would release it on HD-DVD.. I happened to get a HD-DVD player last X-mas, so thats the format I am supporting at the time being. It Blu-Ray edges out.. fine I'll get one in a few years, but till then I am buying on HD-DVDs. C'mon Fox, don't be retarded. Release these movies on both formats.
Fox wont go HD-DVD, Blu-Ray is beating it by too large a margin.

Not really :-\ :

Sorry i thought that Blu-ray outselling HDDVD by 60-70% every month meant it was winning, that and the only exclusive studio to HDDVD is Universal.
Bluray has Columbia, MGM, FOX, Disney blah blah
and this is from your article: Since the start of this year, momentum has been on Blu-ray's side, helped by sales of Sony's PlayStation 3. The majority of high-def disc sales, roughly 70%, have been on Blu-ray since January, according to the Blu-ray Disc Assn.
and by the time HDDVD reached 1 million bluray was actually at like 1.2.
Also Blockbuster has just announced they are only going to be stocking Blu-ray movies and not HDdvd.
I sense a fanboy.. I'm outta this convo. :)
i win! booya... i mean blu-ya!
My computer plays hd-dvd and blu-ray. I lost the sound on my computer for a day and refused to watch my movies in "normal" mode. I only watch my movies in HD. I have a 22 inch wide screen HD-LCD 1080i computer monitor. The difference is night and day. The best movie as far as picture clarity has been SILENT HILL. Everytime I watch it it looks as though I can reach into the screen and touch the characters.
To better explain the difference is like this: Compare the graphics of the 1st Playstation to the Playstaion 3. That the difference. Its not just the picture quailty either. The sound is just a good.
The Trivia track is a cool feature and the quality on an HD tv is awesome played through a PS3 with a HDMI lead ,roll on blu-ray discs of all the alien franchise movies:)

That had to be the longest run-on sentence, cause I could not understand what you were saying the last bit from HDMI on.. :P
:Dedited! This time I managed to draw breath! ;D
I've got a PS3, a HDMI lead (I think it came with it)... I just need a HD TV now ;D

No point in that Blu-Ray player you paid for you lol :D.. Blu-Ray = Only for HDTV, otherwise it looks like a regular DVD.

Haha! Well actually it's my bro's PS3, but we'll keep quiet about that :P He received Casino Royale on blu-ray for free because he registered his PS3 online... and even on a standard TV i thin the quality was a little bit better than DVD. But I'd love to get a HD tv and see it all properly. Do regular DVDs look any good on a HD tv?

With a regular DVD player no.. and I have heard that the PS3 upscaling isn't so hot. Your best bet would be to buy a $70 upscaling DVD player, then yes.. DVDs look pretty amazing on an HDTV when upscaled to 720p. Not as good as HD-DVD or Blu-Ray, but much better than on a SDTV.
i am realy dissapointed that the movie has none of the special features the dvd version has although hopefully they will bring it out with the special featrues

I'd hold off on buying Blu-Ray stuff after lastweek's news about Paramount and Dreamworks dropping Blu-Ray support in favor of HD-DVD. There is also a rumor Warner is going to do the same next... if that happens, Fox may end up releasing movies on HD-DVD as well and you might end up with a better, newer version of AvP in HD. For now, I am holding out.. I don't wanna buy the same movie twice.
Ive got a HD TV and DVD with HDMI lead and upscalling .. will make a difference if i palyed HD DVD's on it?

Unless you have an actual HD-DVD player you can't play HD-DVDs. However, if you have an HDTV and an upscaling DVD player with the HDMI lead.. you will get a very nice picture on standard DVDs. If you have a 360, you can get a HD-DVD add-on for $169 now and 8 free HD-DVDs. Pretty screamin deal.
