This isn't a flame thread, or anything like that, I was just wondering, who actually still plays?
And if so, what race? How well do you do? Ranked games?
I play every now and again, usually as Alien or Marine. I play rather well and play on Dedicated Servers since they actually work now.
Every so often. Cause on my days off I plan gatherings with friends in other games too. I'll still be playing it for a long time. :)

Rarely for me, yet with this new patch on the horizon that might just change.
Sold mine the first week I bought it.
I was playing intermittently, but with recent news I've started to play once a week a good 3-5 hours in one sitting. The patch hits consoles I'll be on as much as I can, right now the imbalances occasionally turn me off unless I'm playing with friends.
I have begun to play again on occasion, thanks to the new patch (on PC). Though, the pred is fuxored, so I mostly aim for either Domination or Infestation (until Survivor hits the dedicated server world).
Started playing again once I heard news for the patch ....its a lot more fun then I remembered it being...especially if you get a good team of aliens going that work together. Great when your speeding through the levels like a pack of wolves tearing people to pieces.
I'm a die hard Alien and Predator fan, I love playing this game 8)
Only casually, occasionally play Survivor but that's about it.

I barely play multiplayer anymore. But when I do. I stick with aliens. But something very annoying to me that makes me always play something else, when the Predator heavy attacks, he can hit you from like, 10 feet away.
Still hop on every couple days and the people I usually find aren't very good at it.

Wait a minute here! Don't blame the game because you lack the skills to survive and win.
Everytime I play multiplayer it's like target practice for me. It's like shooting turkeys on Thanksgiving, it doesn't matter if I'm a Predator, Marine, or Alien.
If I didn't love the Alien controls I would never play this game again.
I do try and play on it more often, but im usually put off my other things, as in work or just random stuff...would like to get some decent hours in online, as I did enjoy it.

I usually play as an Alien or Predator, depending on the circumstances. As a Predator I use nothing but spears and claws, and I don't use the spear at point blank range.

I play it every so often. If there were more people online to play with, then I'll probably play it all the time but alas there aren't that many people. :-\
I play pretty often, until I get tired of the Pred pounce. Yup.
P.S. Is it just me, or is it incredibly satisfying to take down a pred as an alien in melee? Knowing there is tremendous odds against you and players who will take advantage of every cheap aspect of being a pred, and yet your still able to pull off a win. Very satisfying. For a while..............

I usually play as the predator, although frequently I use the alien as well as the marine just to keep things interesting. I'm not one who likes to brag, but I do very well with all species, usually topping the scores in every game by a landslide. As a result of this, half of the matches I join end up empty because everyone quits out after a couple of minutes of being annihilated.

Heheh, between this game & Predators, the subject of AVP never leaves my mind. It's the first thing I think about when I wake up, & never stop thinking about through each day. I probably should call some sort of support line...but if this is wrong, then I don't want to be right.

I'd love to finally see A:CM released. As a hardcore fan of both Alien & Predator, I'd relish the chance to jump into a squad-based shooter as the Colonial Marines in a nightmarish fight for survival. Gearbox Software has got its work cut out for it, their track record with games hasn't exactly been stellar...then again, neither has Rebellion's.
Apparently the new Predators iPhone game is very good too, imagine the possibilities of an open-world similar to Red Dead Redemption, traveling the galaxy hunting prey as you see fit. That would be a dream game.
A:CM looks even better than AvP, I must admit ;)
I've been without XBL for some months so I haven't played online in a while but I do still play the SP. God I love the marine campaign.

Can't wait for it. And as much as I try to stay unbiased about it...people tell me that I'm more of a Predator fan. Even though I think that's unfair seeing as the Aliens and Predators both appeal to me on different levels. The Alien is more of a monster to me, the stuff nightmares are made of. The predator...who wouldn't like to be the ultimate badass? or at least say you killed the ultimate badass lol.

Aliens Colonial Marines has tons of potential. But in my experience, games that are no shows at E3 events, hardly gets any updates on the forums, lack of steady news or previews, and the developers ignoring the fans, is usally a very bad sign of the game getting cancelled.

this i have a good group of mates 11 in total, we play every night from 6pm till 4am usually, sometimes til 2am cos of work or school. They didn't know about the upcoming patch or maps till i told them, they think the patch will be great and although they think the maps should be free to get people back, they all agreed to buy it as it would be a fresh new experience on a game they really love. We're on PS3 btw. That's right, a predator game. Fail.
I can hardly say I'm not excited about A:CM. I don't see anything wrong with a stand alone Aliens game. AvP is great for what it is to me, an arcade style shooter with a melee combat system. The main reason why I have alot of hope for A:CM is its a squad based shooter..from the same people that made the Brothers in Arms series. Which just pisses win IMO.
I'm not to go off saying A:CM is going to blow AvP out the water. Because despite all the trash people talk about it I don't care.... I like that game...and I love playing as the Predator and Alien. For all its flaws I had tons of fun with it and still do to this day, and that's saying alot. But A:CM has more then potential in my humble opinion....it has potential to be the f**k all greatest alien game ever.
Maybe if the Predators movie does really well, we'll get a Predator game that is what Predator Concrete Jungle was supposed to be in the first place...
I usually go through cycles with my games. For awhile I was playing a lot of Star Wars Galaxies, then Super Mario Galaxy 2 came out, and now I'm playing AvP3 more regularly now. As for preferred race, I try to vary it up between the species though my favorite is the marine. All in all, this game is way more exhilarating than any other shooters I play. I think it might be just how much impact everything has; you sort of feel every hit, get jostled around, you lose your footing, you bounce on your jumps, and the trophy kills themselves are more than just "you died, you fall down", which adds to it. Gimme this over MW2 or BC2 any day.
As for A:CM, I'm as much an Alien fan as I am a Predator fan, so of course I'm pretty stoked for it. It just remains to be seen if I'll have the budget for it. It won't replace AvP3 for me though; it'll just be another awesome game to add to my collection.

I can agree with that, I would rather have an AVP game instead. But it would be nice to play A:CM too, but you know "they're working on it" ::)
glad to see most people put casually or quite frequently... this game deserves alot more credit than its got... ok il admit just before it came out we were all buzzin around the world that this game was gonna change the world... at least thats how much it was hyped... it didnt meet anywhere near that but it does not deserve the treatment it has... its very faithful to the series and is genuine fun. the multiplayer is great fun. i manage to always find a decent match every now and then... nowhere near like others tell people... is this game epic? No... is it a great game that every fan of alien predator and colonial marines should like? without doubt... why is there a choice to say "did but broken gameply put me off? there aint nothing wrong with the gameplay... its fine... the rock paper scissiors combat is good... it works... loads saying its broke... what a joke... seems fine when im playin... maybe its because you didnt bother to learn? in all. Well, ACM has the look that AvP sorely lacked, isnt as rushed as AvP was (one of the reasons it bombed this hard) and seems to be build on raw quality more than fancy looks.

and AvP did not "bomb", that part is simply wrong. Just because some people get together on the internet and bitch about it doesn`t mean it "bombed". i`m not saying i don`t think it could`ve been better, but it certainly wasn`t a bomb.
Financially, you're correct. It sold well. But it wasn't a review/critic-hit, and it shouldve been from the start. Yes, quite a few still play, but the exodus that happened after about a month is undeniably there.

Every now and then i play, mainly survivor mode. Getting into any other match is terible expecially rank matches.
There's hardly any servers ( EU ones ) on PC :(

I bought the Hunter Edition. Played it for a month.

I play often as i can,always predator.. sometimes marine. Alot of people have learnt well using the marine know,like using the block system for example.It does get annoying how a marine can block a pred or alien attck at full pounce. But i do enjoy slaughtering the noobs. its actually the only game i own on my 360.and fallout3 which i bought last week and burst limit.
I play the odd time, mostly alien, patch 5 has helped a ton its much more enjoyable. There are still some niggling things that need to be sorted out but the majority is good.
I find myself sorting games by player count rather than Ping, that doesn't bode well for the lifetime of this game :S (PC player)
I play basically every so often on my Xbox 360, though this week more than usual since I'm getting excited for Predators, and feel like ripping people to shreds ;D
After buying the Hunter edition, and after playing for over a month, I reviewed and looked over what it offered; I admit the game wasn't as amazing as everyone had hoped, but I still believe its a decent game if you can get over some of its major flaws. Most people who still play it are the hardcore AvP fans, or adventurous FPS gamers.
I'm hoping the upcoming Bughunt DLC will bring in some regular updates for the game afterwards, but I somewhat doubt it. A good and fun game, but not the masterpiece we had hoped for.
Hopefully A:CM will be the epic alien survival horror squad-based game its looking to be if development continues :)

Yeah I didn't expect too many kids playing a game with this mature content, even though they play Halo and other rated M games, but apparently it has happened. It still is somewhat rare to find matches these days on Xbox :-\ especially matches with hardcore AvP fans.
Being such a big fan of the franchises, I'm surprised I stopped playing after only 4 months.
I play once in awhile, now that I've found a solid group o' dudes to play infestation and domination with, it's much more fun.
Other than that, I say the game failed for one reason alone. Modern Warfare 2 has 4 to 5 million people playing worldwide, and I can't find 10 people to play a ranked match? That's insane, and betrays a broken game.
Edit + Tried playing tonight on XBLive. 1 game, 2 players, 1 left, myself as an Alien vs. 1 Predator. Classic AvP on Refinery, could be fun, right? Wrong. 1 kill for me, 1 for him, another for him, then I best him in melee and guess what, you've lost connection to the host.
Now no games, none. Maybe it's my NAT settings? Yeah, sure...
I think the lacking single-player mode put most players off it.
Single player is brilliant. Only thing that sucked with single was the Alien story. Or lack of.
I find the matchmaking the annoying thing.

Hardly brilliant, considering the levels were linear, the gameplay repetitive, and too short overall.

The entire feel of the game was brilliant. The new combat system added an entire new depth to the game. I agree that it was short. I would have loved to have kept playing and like I said, the Alien campaign was an extreme let down - in length and story. But both marine and predator campaign are amazing. Really draw me in. They look amazing and they play amazing. Can still and am still replaying them now.

It was like AvP99 but with an attempt at a story.
Was it? I remember AvP99 as a very faster shooter. AvP2010 has a completely different gameplay style and mechanic. They're nothing alike.
AvP99 is just another quake game.. run super fast.. and use 1 hit kill weapons.. oh yea.. pred melee sucks in this game and we all know it.

AvP'10 reminded me A LOT of Quake 2. Decent graphics, but totally absent narrative, all story derived from bits and pieces, wonky at places.
The new combat system adding up to the experience? If you count frustration as additive... It just didn't feel natural enough, Rebellion might learn a thing or two from Dice's attempt on immersion with Mirrors Edge IMO.
I do play a lot, but I am aware that other people don't play as much and I'm certain that the game will regain much of its fans & players when patch 5 is released on the consoles. (I don't know about the PC popularity)
glad to see this new map pack has shown faith in more people again that rebellion are still looking after the fans... more and more people seem to be playin... well at least it seems that way to me... its dead easy to get in a ranked match... 2 mins tops... at least 6 players. ok sometimes it takes a little longer but no where near like it used to be... thanks people i really thought this game would have gone dead. i love the game and it seems other people still like it. come online.

Honestly, I think a local/splitscreen multiplayer mode would have made this game on the consoles...
If not co-op, at least vs.
Get some friends together (drinks and smoke optional) and online matchmaking issues wouldn't be nearly as crippling to the overall replayability...

I really wish they release a free new game mode at some point. I don't know WHAT, but it'd make things a little new. In fact, I think I'll go try to finish that god damned marine SP @ nightmare difficulty... This one's a tough nut to crack. Alien and pred campaigns are easy in nightmare, but not the marine one. Anyone has a quick tip on how to avoid death against Weyland <__<?

Singleplayer was terrible!it was like playing a game made 15 years ago!
Alien Campaign: Marines are dumber than what is legal, they have a 3 sentence vocabulary, and the screeching from the queen was ridicolous. Predators in the last mission was USELESS beyond measure.
Predator: Again marines were dummies, cyborgs posed no threat at all. Atleast in the previous one they were dangerous. Aliens are lifeless creatures poorly scripted to walk or crawl towards you, they never had that alien feel at all.
Marines: Your fellow marines were retarded, aliens were the same story as in other campaigns, useless.
Singleplaye was a massive fail.

You can only play one single round before having to leave and start over by spending minutes trying to find a new match... if Host left you would lose our xp. NO real balance in teams as EVERYbody wants to be predators, followed by aliens. meaning it was usually 1 marine vs 3 aliens vs predators... woooooo!
Multiplayer failed aswell.
It's like rebelion never played any new games themselves. I mean if you are making a multiplayer game, you wanna make sure it is up to date in terms of UIs. Just look at the mainscreen, and the fact that if you decide to leave a game mode you get thrown back to the starting screen, instead of just taking a step back to the previous. The fact that the multiplayer was designed as lacking as it was. has made me not want to spend money on Rebelion again.

Multiplayer sux big time takes way to long to get a game and its not to do with ppl online its just a broken system, thankfully though i did like the single player and like the survivor everynow and again.

T'was like three months since my last game. Reached rank 43 long ago, was always the top score player and knew every single inch of every single map (SP and MP) so there was no sense for me in keep playing AVP. On the other hand the new DLC looks promising. Might give it another try once its out.
I'm late to the party, with my copy of the Xbox 360 version of the game in the mail even as I write this. I suspect I'll be playing quite a bit once it comes, though it's too soon to decide what faction will be my favorite.
I just started playing this game again on 360. I downloaded the swarm map pack on day one and have yet to play on these new levels. Do I have to join a player match game instead of a ranked game or something? The new maps look awesome, but I'm kind of hesitant to download them if I'm never gonna be able to play on them. I still need that stupid six pack achievement, too.

I love the game, but it takes to long to find a match. I like the game modes, and just skins instead of classes, even though a starting and in depth weapon load out for the pred and marine would be cool. What I hate is how a predators heavy attack can hit you without touching you. I know its to even out the aliens tail range advantage, but why not just weaken it and make it a faster attack. Or if you have the combii stick have that be the heavy attack? All stuff that can and should be easily fixed in the supposed sequel.
Please put all the movie predators skins in the next game, please......
Plus, the option to choose between single or dual wristblades. I still don't like the dual ones and would like to be able to choose.

Guys, I never bought this game but I'm planning on getting it because I been wanting to play the campaigns, so should I get it? Is the MP any good?
The pred campain is fun. the aliens final level is epic. and the marine has a good story and decent scares. If you can get it cheap its a must. Ps3 mp takes awhile to get in a match but people spam heay attacks which can get annoying. ii play, its all personal prefreance.
I do still every now and then, been so busy tho holdign down 3-4 jobs gaming has stopped for me on all games, but if i can, its usually AvP

Wow you console players still play even when you have been given no patches. I admire your dedication to the AvP concept. I rarely play even today after the subsequent patches which in my opinion fix some things but then break others. I feel rebellion dropped the ball big time on this one which is sad cause it could have been an epic game. Me and my friends still play it here and there though as we make our own versions of predator hunt and clear out the alien infestation without using the game modes. Basically though I think Rebellion employees should have their children thrown into a vat of acid, some might find this to sever of a punishment but hey the stars the limit.
PS3 owner, if I'm online I only play Pred Hunt or Infestation now, Deathmatch/Team DM doesn't really interest me anymore.

I still play on PC from time to time...will go a couple of weeks not touching it (or really touching the PC all together) and then may go a week playing it nearly every night. Some weeks I play it in between playing rfactor with my brother.
I generally have fun, especially the nights when Im in the zone and just owning everyone...some nights I quit quiet early in disgust at the games shortcomings in faults, gameplay and general noobish spamming.
Like the new Predators movie, this game is good but had the potential to simply be AWESOME....which it is not unfortunately :(.

the pc patch is meh imo.It's nice to rank up on the dedi servers but I get annoyed at the players who do nothing but use the e key and heavy attacks(especially the pred) when i'm marine cause there isn't much I can do cause when I start to regain myself the pred is already starting a light attack killing me same goes for alien.

Amen AcidGlow!...one burst from a PR and your pretty much dead as a pred.
The predator is just the easiest class to begin with, since they have less weaknesses than the others. They have speed, great melee & ranged abilities, & the cloak.
Once you master the aliens & marines, the game's true balance really starts to show. The xenomorphs are lightning fast death dealers who appear from nowhere, impale their victim, then disappear back into the darkness as quickly as they arrived. And when a marine gets into a good position with grenades or a shotgun & constantly checks their motion tracker for incoming threats, they are a force to be reckoned with.
It's all about using the strengths of each species to your advantage...although I do admit that it is a little too easy to knock an alien to the ground, even as a marine, which is possibly the xenos' biggest drawback considering they're supposed to be close quarter specialists.
I never use plasma unless I'm constantly getting wall tailed or double teamed. Wall tail is fine from time to time...as most of the time its my mistake for standing too close to a wall, but if all someone does is wall tail and run when they can't do it.... Yeah you get the plasma. Jumping melee is pretty stupid too...but its pretty easy to get around most of the time so it looks stupid but doesn't piss me off too bad. I love the mines and the spear though. I'll will use disc but rarely and never during melee combat. This game could of really used the predator net or spear gun.
I still play. Though I still stand by the fact that it's in dire need of at least fifty patches.
Just got the game, I gotta say the Campaigns are really entertaining...I played one ONLINE match and it wasn't that bad, got five kills as the Alien but it was the first time...I'm surprised because there was no LAG.

Heheh, I think I have more matches end prematurely from the other team quitting than from actually reaching the score limit or running out of time.
I actually had some good games last night with a couple of skilled players, it was a real tooth & nail battle. A refreshing change from slaughtering noobs all night.

Still playing but getting increasingly frustrated with the whole thing. Down to 2 reasons firstly actually getting a game can be a chore in itself...searching for games....this game has already started..etc.
Also I am sorry to say that some other gamers attitude stinks...the host has left the game.
Finding a game online these days it seems is an exercise in futility. Unless you have friends who have a copy of it, you're not playing it seems.
I've just started playing multi again on PC, and have to say that it's heaps better getting into a game now. Just browse dedi's and jump in. No lagging, a few great populated servers ect. Well worth buying on PC IMO.

Just do a lot of Trophy kills, especially on the Predator. Trophy killing a Predator gives you double XP.

Just remember: Heavy Attack > Block > Light Attack > Heavy Attack
and you should do just fine.
Not really. I mostly just played the AvP games for their single player. Cool to live through the movies in a way.
Did though play the AvP 2 survivor mode a lot.
No mods in AvP 3 have really gotten me to stay. Played a bit of the survivor mode there, but too few maps and too small.
Every now and then,but theres always no one on.
Someone probably knows this already but I wanted to say it just in case. I noticed that at the end of the mission Refinery(Alien campaign) when you destroy the last fuse box that opens the door, some alien warriors will appear after a few seconds. If you don't kill any marines, the aliens will go inside and attack them. It's pretty fun watching them headbiting the marines. :)

Lol, thanks it works...Btw..I played my first ranked match but it was 1v2 Domintion Game, I was a Marine againts two Aliens they won but at the end I got more EXP than them...
I managed to unlock a few trophies the other day. The Uninfected and Killer Instinct...surprised the hell outta me when i got the second because I don't normally do that well :P
I'll tell you, at this point, unlocking The Six Pack trophy is im-freaking-possible. When am I going to find six friends all playing at once? Bleh.

praetorian skin has a problem others dont.... the hit box is larger due to your head...players can shoot the tip of ur head to kill u which is really the disadvantage against a marine who has a sniper or just shoots the head...your head is big and the hit box increases, thats y i nvr use it.

there are matches all the time bein played on xbox sometimes u get times where u wait 5 min for a game but there still players there playn all the time

if your an achievement hunter anyway you will be doing the nightmare mode anyway... but prepare for frustration as the marine... predator campaign on nightmare is a good challenge but not a nightmare... the alien campaign is a nightmare if you try to kill everyone and do the level properly... best way is to run through everything you can. the marine is where its at. nightmare suits this to the ground.

have fun with the marine when u play nightmare...damn its hard and very fun at the same time...took me a week to finish it but that was due to the fact i was busy in rl most of the time so it took me 3 days when i was free to play it on those particular days, i mainly died due to the face i was on the earlier levels and ammo runs out faster.

I know how you feel. I'm having problems with the first level because I keep getting caught by Aliens! It's so essential to block and counter punch at the right time.
Now I can't beat the abomination at the final level....I get pass the aliens/synthetics easily but I can't beat that damn predalien!

Yeah, I'm doing it on Nightmare....I use mines most of the time...but I'll try it using meele only now like you said.
it depends if u no the melee specifics of the pred-alien...i have to block and counter most of the time due to the fact its the easiest way but then it does the ranged attack..which psses me off alot. on lower modes u can win without blocking and countering. just keep swining at the thing it eventually goes down.

sometimes the pred alien uses them against u...and sometimes instead it jumps and gets u into an instant grab then runs off...which is fcked up.
Yea that predalien pounce caught me off guard and killed me. Also the praetorians in the marine campaign are really annoying when playing in nightmare oh and does f**king androids with shotguns.
grab the sniper rifle for androids...as they run close with shotguns and other weapons. i suggest you shoot one its legs off with the rifle and then shoot its other leg til it dies. its how i beat em.
I still play but the Aliens need life cycle like in AVP2. :)
id rather have the lifecylce on specific game modes...not just in games like deathmatch...would mess the aliens about when they get someone..for that they would need a version of the class system if they get a predator.
Lyfcycle would be great on infestation, or domination even.

That's what I did the first time I beat the campaign(NORMAL) and now I did it again on Nightmare. Next up is the ALIEN campaign on Nightmare..
Beating the predalien hand to hand is easy, even on Nightmare. Just be rapid with the blocks & counters, then get out of the way when it slams the ground. Use the combistick & mines to weaken it even more before going in for the kill.

gotta love playing the alien :D, especially when your in a team with other skilled aliens, alotta fun working as a pack.
ranked matches are horrible to wait for, i got this game when it first came out and ive only just gotten to rank 19

I love it. I actually want to get the acheivements and I thoroughly enjoy this game.
I've since got into a habit of playing this game daily and it's pretty addictive. Yeah, it could have been so much more, but for all it's flaws, SP is entertaining and MP is hella fun. Definitely like this game now.

It's shame no one plays online much. The game has excellent MP.
Early balance issues, a lack of dedicated servers and Predator-preferential maps upon release turned away a lot of the core base that would've otherwise gone on to bring other players into the fold. Nothing is ever handled perfectly, but I think Rebellion just made some bad choice in respect to the handling of the early MP.
I'm still trying for that real nasty habit trophy my current rank 40 :P

Haven't played in weeks now...Starcraft 2 was released and all of a sudden I'm an avid RTS gamer again :P
Though just looking round the forum tonight, I'm getting a bit interested again seeing some of the cool mods coming out even if they are only just skins and sounds...the sounds especially are something that brings back memories of the movie and first AVP game...gets the heart going when they are done right like the sound pack someone is working on with the whip crack of the plasma caster firing...can't wait to hear a properly done pulse rifle, sound tearing away at my ears, aliens screaming in death ;D

I WANT to mplay frequently but...I have a serious AVP Gold problem. I managet to get it to work in Win 7 64bit but... i can not connect in multiplayer. I can see the HOST game...and when i hit ENTER the sreen locks at "Waiting for game description". I`ve tried everything, connecting 2-3pc....rooter...switch....etc. Any other game works. If it can see the HOST game means...that they are connected. At the host PC console appears..A PLAYER IS CONNECTED. Please Help!!!!!!!! :D

Nor is the melee mechanics of weak, light, stuns, knockdowns or the block and counter system.
AVP 1999 had none of these really.. it was just "wave blades around aimlessly hoping you hit characters that move at mach 5 speeds..." melee sucks.. so just use 2 weapons.. true story.

Now that I"ve got my game fixed I've been playing fairly frequently. Got other games to play though, so I haven't made this my number one game again.
Today I gave the game another shot (once again), played about 7-10 minutes and ended up saying "F#ck this s#!t. It's the same mediocre game that it was when I stoped playing the last time.
This is sad cos just about 30 minutes before, I played AvP2 online. Oh boy, that's the sh!t. I love it :D

I played about 4 games today the first match was good it was a 13 man Death match I won by getting 45 kills and a 10 killstreak (PS3 has some shit players), after that I started my own game got this one guy that went af-PS3. I spent 20 minutes testing out the flamethrower, it is and isn't ok once they're on fire they're as good as dead it's just getting them to that point which can be hard.
With Reach around the corner and BC's online gameplay, I can't be bothered with AvP at this point.

Finally got to play 18 matches in 2 days after a break from a month ago. So damn fun. Met 2 really good skill marines during those 2 days. Gotta play more when I have time again. Such a fun multiplayer game. ;D
I totally pwned some n00bs as a Marine a few days ago.
As average as this game was, and not special in any ways, it was and is still fun to play online.
I had a game with HeavenlyBIGFOOT and another chap whose member name I didn't get yesterday and I've gotta say, this game is so much more fun when you're playing with someone. But it's like that with every game, I guess. I don't really like playing MP without someone to talk to while I'm doing it.
I really do love AvP. Shame the finer details haven't been fixed.
Agreed Corporal Hicks. Guys when you play this game get your headsets on. the certain game modes like survivor are essential for this kind of play. I also find that being able to talk to your enemy while playing is great to as Corporal Hicks will tell you.lol. I honestly think we need to start playing this game, all of us with headphones on. its a proper laugh. People say survivor is boring... because your not talking to each other working as a team. the same for predator hunt. that is a really intense mode when played with friends your talking to trying to out smart the predator. give a shot im always up for a laugh. HeavenlyBIGFOOT.
Yeah - I play Infestation with a clan and we talk to each other, coordinating lines of defence, calling for back-up and just generally having a good time. Makes the game a lot of fun.
I stopped playing now, can't find games, I'm back on MW2.
Just reinstalled it for PC, still some activity.
I would play it a LOT more if I could just find matches. However, the community for the Xbox, seems to have disappeared. :( So sad. I'm back to Bad Company 2

Still the same as always. I check all games listedin the evening and it varies from SDM and Mixed SDM matches.

i got to be honest i think it must be all your internets speed because i have never had a problem playing the game on multiplayer... i mean ranked matchs get annoying yes but in the end just go to a player match and have fun. if you cant find a match then somethings wrong with your stuff... i always find matchs. but if you guys really cant do that then look around on here and loads of us will add you and we can all join in a match together. thats what this site is for... joining avp fans and rejoicing in the epicness. lol. Take a look at the Jedi Knight Academy game. Even mods have more server than AVP and this game isn't that recent. It's in fact an old one now. ::)

Neither of you are fans. I hate halo multiplayer.. same shit since halo 1!! just prettier character models and a few new toys to play with. It's the same game... ::) Bungie can't make anything else but space marines in armor that do space jumps and hold onto energy shields.

What? I'm still a fan, but I know a better game when I see one. If Rebellion had put more effort into AvP's SP, then maybe people wouldn't have drifted away and would still be playing.

Yeah i was interest but unfortunatly, i live in France and you usualy play at impossible hours for me (job, shooting range....)
and all my AvP games are V1.0 ,then it would be harsh like hell to patch them all.
And moreover my computer isn't a "playing computer", sometimes i lag even in single player (in AvP2 of course)

Remember that one match after so many light attacks from the alien players.. it was like 10minutes into the match and i go "OMG!! The alien player used a tail!!!! They figured out what LB does!!" ;D

Are the PS3 multiplayer servers a little crowded now? I bought the game at release, played for a few weeks and sold it because it was hard to get into a game.. Are these problems fixed now?
Wouldn't exactly say they are crowded, but we usually find a game. And if not ranked there are usually enough of us to have a few good friendlies. Most of the guys play pretty regularly anyway.

almost all the time there are friendly matchs. ranked matchs really depend on how many people are trying to get into a ranked match which you can never determine but yeah i am a casual player on AvP and have no trouble finding matchs at any time.

Rebellion should have fixed the melee combat first, that would have helped alot.
-No block and counter.
-fast and rapid alien claw attacks.
-no marines knocking down aliens.
-no delay on heavy attack for both alien and predator.
I know this has been discussed many times but I see the melee combat as fatal error in the game.
Whereas I see it as a fantastic move that completely draws me into the game and I feel like I'm in the movies more than I ever have. Granted, the timings are flawed and I recognize that but I still love it.

You must love avp's shitty melee and avp2's half assed melee combat then. Your description fits those 2 games perfectly.
avp- pred melee sucks ass.. we all know it.. especially when targets run at mach 5 speeds.. warping around the map..
avp2- blades suck.. period.. a bit better then avp1s but still a last resort.. spear is slightly better due to its reach.
But you can't expect all games to have the same "run around swinging your claws and blades, hoping to hit something" type of melee combat.. I love the new counter melee system in AvP3. Gives it more strategy to it. And don't get me started on aliens retarded pounce attack in AvP2.. that was a stupid idea..
Already traded it in for some discount toward Black ops, sigh....I actually felt bad when I did it though....
I played the 3 campaigns like 100000000 times though :) but MatchMaking was just not FUN for me. :(

I'd like to take this time to thank the PC Gods for a game in today's market that hasn't forgotten about Dedicated Servers.
Oh, and the melee in this game is really engaging. Difficult, but engaging and refreshingly different in a sea of carbon copy shooters.

Yep, got all the skins now so Ranked doesnt really matter that much to me anymore, plus it takes sooo long to find one
My graphics card died about a month ago now, getting my new one this week so should be right back into it shortly...for all its flaws, I have actually missed playing AVP and can't wait to get back into it ;D

Purebreedalien, I know you guys are fairly strict around here but isn't that going a bit far for "wimp"? I'm sure the majority of members are old and mature enough not to take offence or get upset at such a weak word, it was probably more said in jest as well ;). I simply think its a bit silly to be getting hung up on such an innocent word when the forum is for a game that's rated R18+ here in Australia (it would be anyway if they had such a classification for games here, somehow they snuck it in under the existing MA15+ 8)).

Played tonight for 2.5 hours with random people. Best game I had was 1 marine, 3 aliens and 2 preds.. the aliens used some great worm but man was it a frag fest! So crazzzzyy! And I even recorded it! ;D thank god I had rank 43 pred who knew how to play. I have too many games with retard rank 1's that don't know how to play...
Playig with the retards can be fun too. I still play, the game does not get the credit it deserves. It is way better than halo and call of duty. (it has more diversity) it's just that we live in a society where most people jump on the band wagon with halo and cod.

360 version right? if so I was on the alien team and boy would those pc patches be appreciated focus jump and plasma knockdown is a B****, I had plenty of fun though. First time ive played in a while.

Why did they go with steam? it should be renamed steaming pile of crap, because it never works 90% of the time. The game has horrible online connection.

This isn't true anymore, not on PC anyway as now you accumulate XP on standard MP games, not just ranked.
So unless they have spent a heap of time toying around in SP which will only get you so far playing against AI, they will most likely be noobs...but the best measurement is to play with / against them and their performance will speak for itself.
I say basing yours or other peoples skill purely on rank is just talk ::), your K/D ratio will speak for itself at the end of every match ;)

I play alot now, since it seems the "unable to rank up" glitch on PS3 has been fixed.

I would be playing if I wasn't in Malaysia on holidays and if my xbox didn't get the red ring of death.

yeah I still play from time to time. Mostly with friends ;)
But what I still don't understand why no one plays the mappacks... they are really fun, but it is almost impossible to find a match with the maps from the mappacks in its rotation.
On the PC version there are still games in servers with the new packs from time to time.
At this point they should make the maps free for all. It maybe piss off the people who paid money for them (if they still care about the maps or the game), because:
- 4 new Survivor maps; I doubt anyone plays the mode anymore, each time I try it I can't find players, maybe the new maps will attract some people
- 4 regular maps; the standard map selection is already poor, this would definitely bring some of the people back

HONESTLY, I enjoyed the campaigns WAY more....that's just me....

I play fairly regularly. Rank 34 (although no longer play ranked matches due to low traffic) I generally win if the conditions are right, favouring the alien/predator and certain levels over others. Getting better as the marine slowly and can whip poor alien/predator players, but youve got no chance against an alien/predator that knows what they're doing.
My fandom is what keeps me going back to this game despite it's problems, which are numerous...
I love playing the game glad I don't have to play ranked anymore since I am level 43. But that damn 6 pack trophy is impossible to get.

Agreed! Sega dropping support less than a year after the game's release was a sign that the game lacked the long term playability of it's PC predecessors. Heck, if the matchmaking for ranked matches was not so crappy I bet that at least 20% of the missing players when the game was released would have kept the game. I barely tolerate looking for ranked matches as it can take up to twenty minutes at times. :-X
It has more to do with Sega's pushing for a fall 2009 release than it's support given after release.
I tend to believe that a product would be better if it was thought through and tested enough before release, instead of delivering a product that is half finished and mend it afterwards.
I like AvP'10 for it's graphics and atmosphere in some levels, but it just misses the gameplay elements that made the first two games better (and in terms of gameplay, my ideal ratio would be 50/50 of AvP1 and AvP2, with some more interesting MP elements than just DM please.).
The Melee Combat System however was my greatest game-breaker, as it forced a completely unnatural gameplay element (in SP, it often is more of a quick time event, but in MP, those hints are not given as clearly) upon players who loved the old games.
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 did this better for it's knive-fights: only connect to opponent when a hit is fairly certain, in which immersion is never broken, is amped by the more dramatic looking attack and yet you retain the freedom to play and use it the way you like.
AvP better be in someone elses hands, because in the end, I don't think Rebellion didn't live up to it's name, but it did to it's reputation. Delivering half assed games which had bigger potential due to budgetary constraints or just poor development.
Too bad Monolith is now owned by Warner Bros.
I believe there were more behind the scenes interference from Sega that we really know. I was told some of it but in all fairness I've forgot a bit. Ikarop may know more. And the melee system is another reason I love the game. It's different. It's not a rehash. It takes some getting used to and the consoles haven't had the fine tuning the PC has.
But as always...That's my preference.
Anywho, i've just had a cracking night on the game. I absolutely love the game when you get a decent populated game. Just have to add the people you've recently played with into your party and all goes well. Fantastic night. Has definitely spurred me on to get game night restarted.

I love the game im on ps3 and i play every night and have done since i got it at release date, best game ever in my opinion it has its faults but what game doesn't?
The only thing i hate is slow rank but i have a few mates who even in a group of 4/5 manage to find a match in 2/3 mins, on ps3 the leaderboards are hacked till you reach 9050 thats where the real stats start from, im rank 9055 in kills which is rank 5 in terms of real stats n 9060 in matches won which is rank 10 in real terms, alot of people are still playing every rank match i find has different players in it from the previous game, it's just the way rebellion set it up that makes it slow.
BTW i heard a rumour that xbox n ps3 are joining servers so multi-player will be X-platfom, is it true?

Ok, the graphics card will be letting you down the most, you will want to drop textures to medium to start in order to get as much in RAM as possible, if you run out and end up streaming textures from swap file, your performance will dive. Marine Colony (the most mem intensive level) uses 2.2 Gb RAM at the start when on medium, so should fit nicely, but higher than that and requiremnets go up.
Also, your GPU is underpowered for this game so turn off all the extras; antialias, anisotrofic filtering, ambient occlusion should all be turned off.
If that doesn't do enough try turning everything down to minimum and work your way back up. Resolution will have the biggest impact on looks, so try to keep that at native res if possible, but equally, a lot of the cost in AvP is the lighting, which is cost per pixel, so dropping res will also have the biggest performance boost! I personally much prefer playing it with low textures at 720p than high textures at 800x600.
Also worth noting is not to assume that "reduce mouse lag" will just make things better, if you are not experiencing lag without it, turning the option on will CAUSE lag.

Those folks don't know how to play then. It's more profitable to plasma-spam and to also quickly pull off a melee combo and watch teammates' backs than to outright e-spam and get killed every time you trophy train. K/D's of 1:1 don't help out your team.
Fortunately I mostly luck out with folks who know how to play. Sorry you haven't had the same luck.
It's just too fast paced to play well in those tight arena's. If I want to play fast paced, tight arena's, I'd fire up Quake 3/UT'99.
Same goes for MW btw, never liked it's MP much.
Then I guess it comes down to a matter of taste there. I love the fast paced enclosed nature of the game. Keeps me on my toes, doesn't let me catch a breath. Love it.
Of course, not raggin' on you for it not bein' your thing. On the contrary, it's interesting to hear other POV's.

Because there are still plenty of servers online and about 2 or 3 games going on regularly every day? No one plays ranked or quick matches, they're all on the dedi's.

Did they actually have any form of dedi server support for xbox and PS3? This is I believe the main reason why PC mp gaming communites last much longer, and in the case of AVP2010 player hosted games had terrible latency issues, worse than normal.
Nope, no dedis for consoles.
Tried dedicated several times and i could never find any games just said no servers found. Same on ranked.

I feel the tight arenas fit AvP more than wide open maps. Each one of the movies was a claustrophobic setting. That's one of the things I wasn't too fond of for large chunks of AvP2, the vast expanses of space. The maps were too big. Of course both of us could be satisfied with the MP environments if Sega would just give Rebellion the OK for an SDK release.

Did you make sure that you went to "Dedicated [Internet]"? There are two Dedicated Server options in the multiplayer menu.
Oh, and fun little bit: After I took that screenshot about an hour or 2 later there were 3 full games, 2 half full games, and a couple games with a couple players in'em. It was kinda crazy, though I usually don't play at that time so maybe I play on off hours? Used to only about 40-50 people online.
After hearing the good news about A:CM and watching the teaser I got back into AVP, Im actually amazed people still play to honest. I found out that if you pick random for rank matches it dosent take as long to find a match. Im a 360 player and I totally forgot how cool this game is even if some of you feel different.
Defintely. It just takes a good few players to get a good game going. If you're a 360 player, I still run 360 game night on Tuesdays at 8pm GMT (UK time) but not this coming Tuesday though. I'm not at home.

I regularly play but the horrid E spam fest that occurs is putting me off, too many people rely on this instakill button that just dumbs the game down.
I can see the fun in doing E kills when it's used correctly and not abused, But as the person who gets strafed and E'd, It's no fun anymore and in the end most people just leave the game and play something else.
It's only thanks to ikarop and his mods that has kept me interested in the game if I have to be honest, I've slowly but surely started to migrate to the battlefield community by purchasing Bad Company 2 and Pre-ordering BF3.
Of course when Colonial Marines comes out I am getting that also (It's a no brainer imo )
I believe that IF an SDK is released, the game will start to sell well again and more people will want to play.

If it wasn't that I have a bunch of games I want to finish (notably Rainbow Six Vegas, The Darkness, F:NV Honest Hearts DLC, Thief 3) then I would definitely hop back on this game and see if the tweaks done to it have made it more balanced online. I started playing it again the other day, mainly for achievments, the online aspect I find fun and very different from other multiplayer games out there. I just wish there was more people playing it, as I find it very hard to find a game these days.

It's never that bad for me. I've been playing for last few hours and during that I've only had 3 ridiculous waits. Everything else was pretty quick. And I ranked up. Level 40 now. Not long until I get that last bastard achievement.

Always at least one server running with a decent match. Peak hours I've seen about 4 with a couple matches filled. So yea, shouldn't be too hard to search the Dedicated Server list. I recommend doing a server listing search by player count.

I do.. haven't stopped since the game came out. I only play SDM on all maps though. I dislike MSDM cause in every game I went to with friends.. 5-6 predators on one team.. boring. SDM is more balanced and fun IMO.

Exactly! STDM is my favorite.
MSTDM and Deathmatch take away all the fun, with 5 predators, 1 alien (rank 43) and no marine.
Heck, most of the people prefer Predators, so all I see is 5 Predators vs 3 Predators.
Oh, I wish I had an XBOX. For this game, the PS3 community < XBOX360 community, IMHO.

The chaps here actually run a game night at least once a week if I'm not mistaken, and there are a lot more 360 users than PS3 users here from what I gathered. It's generally agreed upon though that you're basically better off buddying up with folks here to create games rather than wait for matchmaking to hook you up. Far as I understand anyway. I play PC, so I don't got much problems in that regard.

When I was playing pretty much every day I was with my clan (MBB and MSPC before them). The more people you have in your party the more people there will have to be on the other team for the match to start. You'll be in limbo untill the teams are even. We waited for that last player to join for over an hour many times.
Depends how many were in the party. Recently I'd been finding it somewhat easy to get into ranked games on matchmaking. I normally invite randomers in from the games if I'm playing on my own to build the party up. 4, including yourself) is usually the best number.

Not for me. I got in ranked sometimes with a friend and we get into matches within 5 minutes and this is SDM mode. If you want faster matches.. go to MSDM.. but that's so bad I tell ya

Just got the game again today. Definitely plan on playing the multiplayer for a while. Like some others, I need to get those multiplayer achievements.
I've been waiting a while because I've wanted to get the map packs, it could of been today but someone failed me. Some things you just gotta do yourself.
Finally added predxeno I went on compare trophies to see what ones he needed and I'm actually really look forward to this I wanna play 4 man survivor get him the 20 kills in 60 seconds and 10 ranked kills without dying once. I remember these trophies but because it was AVP It didn't ever feel like I'd worked for them ya'know they sorta just fell into my lap I mean I got 100% not a week after owning it, I don't know it's a nice feeling like getting to unlock the trophy again plus helping someone so f**k it! ;D
Sorry, Lie, just got the Survivor Trophy (Scatter Shot) today with Greedy Fat Xenoborg, but we can still do Survivor matches again. I still need the 10 ranked kills without dying once Trophy (Really Tough Hombre), you can help me with that.

Who owns the rights for Predator games? If so, I would hope a Predator game with some gameplay aspects like Fallout 3 (1st and 3rd person) would be made, like Concrete Jungle.
I'm pretty sick of the game right now. It's almost dead for me on PS3.
Also, my connection's pretty bad, so even if I find a match, I usually get disconnected while respawning.
If I manage to counter someone's attack, it's probably just luck. :(
The PC version is doing pretty good, but it's too fast for me, and the keyboard layout is hard for me to get used to.
So I've stopped playing the game, until I get a new connection. If that doesn't happen, I don't think I'd even play the game anymore.
I hope you're not too sick to miss out on the Thanksgiving game night, I really need that 6 Pack Trophy. Just lay off the game for awhile and then come back on Thanksgiving, maybe it won't seem so bad once you've put a few months between your plays.

The Game Night's exact date is still being worked upon, but having a continous Game Event throughout the entire Thanksgiving break would be nice, especially for those who may not be able to make it on certain nights. Right now, I'm kind of hoping for a Game Night on Thanksgiving night and/or on the Saturday of the Thanksgiving weekend.
Note: That because many people on this site are from different time zones, some of us may actually be playing during the day.

Relax, Self-Destruct, the date for this Game Night hasn't been permanently fixed yet. We may even have more than 1 on that week.
If and when they make another AVP game or even a Predator game, I really hope they bring back the netgun.

Yeah and marines could slice out of them with knives which in AVP (the movie) did not work at all.
The nets, made of perishable material, make more sense to me, honestly.
If a Predator is hunting a prey, it can use the net-gun to temporarily halt its prey from approaching too near, or somewhere that the Predator does not want it to be, or just to humiliate or tire the prey.
If the netgun in AvP is used, the prey would be killed and the hunt would be futile, because the Predator did not really make any effort.
I'm guessing that the net-guns in AvP, the movie, were meant for undesirable or unwanted organisms that would interfere in the hunt.
A new AVP or Predator game should include more of the Predator weapons like the Net-Gun, Shuriken and update the Combi Stick so not only could you throw it, you could use it for melee attacks.
Not me I'm playing Gears Of War 3 Horde Mode and Beast Mode yeah! I don't think AvP 2010 can give that much fun though; playing for hours and hours. Now I'm just waiting until Battlefield 3 comes out.

Nope. I don't think this game is getting a sequel from Sega or Rebellion.
I replaced my stolen copy so I'll be playing it more often now.
Sega has stated that their short term plan is to explore other games for the license before returning to a sequel for AvP. So no sequel seems to be in the works right now.
I never played MP much on the original, though I loved it to death (and I still have the box! I hope... :-X ). Just LOVED IT.
Almost all my online FPS skills were honed in AvP2 Species Deathmatch. I must have logged over 2,000 hours into that game over the years, according to my extremely rough and completely made up guesstimate.
You can see by my Steam profile (TL22) that I play AvP3 quite frequently. I've already made my opinions on the game quite clear in quite a few spots on the forums and had many a debate with Le Celticant ;) in defense of this game. I still love AvP2, but I do prefer AvP3 to the other games. I'm pretty addicted. :D

I like to go through the SP campaigns from time to time, but the MP in this is just horrendous IMO. Looking forward to Colonial Marines though, and hoping for a standalone Predator FPS.

I played multiplayer on 360 yesterday, and I had 3 different matches with about 15 or so players.
So, people are actually coming back to the game?
And I don't have my game :'(
I wouldn't be surprised if more people return due to impatience over ACM. Also (I'm sure a lot of people have realized this by now) the trick is to give up on ranked matches in favor of browsing player matches. It just takes too long otherwise. Which is a shame, cause I really wanted to unlock more skins.
You can always unlock more skins; all you need is patience and persistence.
And ranked matches. And anytime I search for one, it takes like 20 minutes to get in a match of six, and usually the game ends abruptly because the host drops out, so I don't get my XP anyway.
In general, player matches are bigger and more fun.
Actually, I think you still do get the XP even if the host drops out, I still get it.

I still play quiet allot, its quiet hard to find anymore ranked matches, you either vs 43 player or very low levels. sad the broken game play made most people leave.

Off topic: Well because there were two other games that were released before, AVP and AVP 2 so most people just associated this game with these two older games hence AVP3. But now I think most people just call it AVP 2010 or AVP.
I just got Platinum and Rank 43, I'm going to take a serious break from this game. What I did is I played this game without touching any other video game until I got Platinum; it's hard enough to go that long playing only 1 game even without the XP losing glitch.

I still, infact i just finished a dead match right now, im not good at it but i like the game XD, also i like to play it like 5 or 6 times a week it depeends, and even i like to play PCJ and the AVP 2
I REALLY went off this game for along while but the last few days I've been hitting it hard and loving it again!!
The game is pretty broken full stop but being a massive pred and alien fan i enjoy it - I leave games if they're too unfair etc as the balancing on the game is a joke sometimes.

The Predator campaign on Nightmare was so freaking easy. Fighting the Praetorian especially was a joke. All I did was stand on the tallest pillar and continuously throw the disc at it.

I still play it. a bit more when some friends wanna game. Had the game since launch and it's one of my most played games :) On Xbox 360 the online activity is still roughly small but it's a good handful of players you'll run into. Most of them are in player matches cause it's faster but there are still some players in ranked but it's a bit slower getting into those matches.
I had put the game down since I was waiting for the patch but I then heard the patch wouldn't be release on the PS3 etc. Now with the new game coming am wanting to start playing again.

I'm really getting frustrated. I've played a good 35 hours of multiplayer over the last month or so, but lately there seems to be a ridiculous amount of hackers.... not to mention lag.
I swear, nobody from the US plays this game on the PC!
How big is the community for this game on PC? I had the game on PS3, but haven't played in forever because there's barely anyone on there, but now I've got a gaming PC and was wondering if it's worth getting.
I don't play it anymore and i don't think i ever will again. I've never been so disapointed from a video game. I tried to give it a new chance last year, but again was utterly disappointed by how brainless, unfinished and boring the game feels like - and after such a huge letdown i am not even sure what to expect from ALIENS COLONIAL MARINES. I hope at least that game will not be such a disaster.
The first AVP by Rebellion, ALIEN TRILOGY and AVP2 by Sierra will always be the best ALIEN games out there...
The XP-losing glitch was by far the game's biggest flaw.

I just loved picking apart a team of 4-5 marines and me being an Alien
getting them to split up and then use the old divide and conquer routine, good times.
Not to mention when i had alien team-mates, it was so good fun using tag-team hunting tactics.
Predators were a bit harder to kill but thats what made is so challenging and made me a better Alien ;D

I got owned by the netgun an impossible amount of times. It was badass cause you could claw your way out of it real quick if you were the runner and grid that motherf**king predator! :laugh: I actually did it about half the time. The other half, I got murdered.

AcidGlow has a few great matches where he plays as the Alien, but I would like to see more. Does anyone here know of any good dedicated Alien players out there?

HER Hive's Elite Guard is a f**king beast man. I played with him the other night... and won >:) but only because I had the host advantage. He's the best alien player I've ever seen. Look out for him, he will tear up everything in Team DM. His kill streak record is 97. Yes, 97. I've personally seen him rack up a streak of 40 or so.
Also, contrary to popular belief, he is not a cheater. He's just damn good.

I'll vouch for this. I've played quite a few matches with Hive's Elite Guard, too. Somewhat frustrating to play against but still legitimately ridiculously good. I remember being so proud of a 70+ frags total in a match one time, but Hive's Elite Guard regularly gets 80+ in all the matches I've ever played against it. (Yes, I refer to Hive's Elite Guard as "it" because it really is a force of nature.)

I'm on xbox. I started playing the single player campaign again last night, after playing Gears of War 3 since it's release. I really like AVP. It's alot of fun.
AVP3 is one of them games what you play every so often, it shouldn't be bashed like Halo or The new modern warfare games or even battlefield. IMO
It works for me because i play it on rare occasions that keeps the game fresh :)

There is no new patch from the "developer" for this game. that stopped a long time ago. Any patches you're getting are probably just console or steam updates.
been playing quite abit recently and got to 90th in world on kills leaderboard :D
Some of the games me and my mates get are ridiculous though - how the host system on this game works I'll never know - I have virgin 60mb internet (average speed of around 33mb download and 2.9mb - 3.2mb upload) and I struggle with lag in some games - also still loads of people glitching etc.
Think I'm the only one in the top 100 who dosent lag or glitch!
I still pop in and out of AvP on 360. I usually end up just playing Survivor mode though, never seem to be in an online game with more than 3 players. I would love to get back into some Multiplayer sessions. Does anyone play on a friday night ?.

I'm talking about the original. It seems new people now a days are only familiar with the "classic 2000" name. I think classic 2000 is just the "Gold Edition" but renamed.. Alien tails in avp1 kill a marine 1 hit fully charged. and all while aliens speed hop across the map "teleporting" around. Don't need stun when you're incredibly hard to hit with a 1 hit kill tail. I think avp2's tail was annoying in its own area. As for Avp3, it's not as bad cause the game is slower and you can counter

If you're at a distance where they can't reach you, you can. But if you put yourself to a wall then it's your fault. I have no problem with Wall Tail cause it gives alien players an incentive actually play 'like an alien" and use their wallwalk to their advantage.
I don't play anymore because there are not enough Infestation only servers and/or they are always empty or have huge ping.

Either it drags on soooo long cause a noob player is selected as the alien at the start and can't get any kills.. or..
it goes by in 2 minutes.. boring..
I'd rather be a marine and shoot aliens in SDM for 10 minutes then for 2.. same for using an Alien against marines.

Either it drags on soooo long cause a noob player is selected as the alien at the start and can't get any kills.. or..
it goes by in 2 minutes.. boring..
I'd rather be a marine and shoot aliens in SDM for 10 minutes then for 2.. same for using an Alien against marines.

I find alot of player matches in the evening and I'm on American time zones. Ranked has been dead a few short months after the game was released. More ppl hang out in player matches. Heck.. I'm 700+ recorded matches in on Xbox and I'm still finding matches with 6-9 players in them for Species Deathmatch.

Sure it's flawed no doubt, but it's still fun, awesome graphics and plenty of people still playing online for the PC version. Which is insanely better than the console. The console version got shafted big time.
I've had so many glitches lately that make me say "Why did that happen?". But it was funny nonetheless.

Nevermind! Done it.
Technically its the shotgun, however if you want to win, you should bypass the Praetorian and run to the elevator. There's a glitch in the game that doesn't allow any Alien to touch you while you are standing there and sometimes you can trick the Praetorian into killing itself by running off the ledge. :laugh:
Shotgun did wonders. I've finished it now. That's AvP 100% complete. First game I've ever done 100% too.
Nice, if you completed AVP2010 with 100% you deserve a medal. We all do. ;)
And by 100%, I refer to the achievements. I've completed most of the other games. :)
I know, but the XP losing glitch in multiplayer and The Six Pack Achievement are both bitches that no gamer should have.
I play when I am not focusing on any other particular game. I mostly do single player, although in the coming months I may try multiplayer more and see how it is.

I just started playing again this week. There's not very many people on at any given time, you'll be lucky to get 5 or 6 people on one match at a time.
I will admit most of my time is spent on Halo 4 but I still enjoy playing AvP2010 on Multiplayer. So I hope people keep playing it. Sucks having to wait 20 mins to find a game with more than 2 people in it.
When A:CM comes out, I imagine a lot of people will convert to that game. Probably for the best, unless you're still trying to get Platinum or 100% achievements. :( (Thank God, I don't have to worry about that anymore; it was a long 8 months.)

I tried single player survivor for the first time yesterday and got 62 kills!

I'm "meh" when it comes to survivor. However the ACM Survivor looks badass. I'm more into Deathmatch, or Infestation if anyone's on Xbox. Gonna be trying to get a band together to play on a regular basis until ACM comes out.

As for the interest, sadly it has gone down. I recently just got my Xbox Live up and running, a couple years too late and now it's rare to find a good match online. Hopefully as we near Aliens CM, people will want to play more of AvP like I mentioned before, kind of getting people "in the mood" so to speak.

by the end of that life I had a 8 kill streak in which 2 players left the game.

Yeah. Main reason for buying it really. I'll try the Alien once I'm done. Predator is neither here nor there. Found them a bit dull in previous AvP games.
I enjoyed Marine the most. Alien second most. Predator is enjoyable if your in a Predator mood.
You gotta love doing the little "Over here-Anytime" distraction bit to some Marine. I find myself doing it, just as I carve the poor SOB a new airway in his neck- Jesus, Predators are overpowered. :laugh: The Marine levels seem to be the ones I'm always playing- mainly the first and second missions.
PC version seems to still have allot of players nowadays. Not as much as it used to be of course, but if you wish to play on a full server I suggest you try the PC version anyway.

If you're gonna play online, stick to infestation. Stay way from TDM unless you enjoy getting spawn killed by Predators with Plasma-casters and mines...
Never really been interested in playing online.

The Marine campaign is the only one that is worth playing. Only reason to play through the Alien section is because that ending is actually the best one out of all the species, its also very freaking short, I was expecting for at least another 2 hours of gameplay but none of that happened. I also want to say that playing as a Black character was something that I thought was pretty neat.
That's true, but I don't get why the protagonist had to be mute during the entire game; I mean who does that in real life? Also, it was a bit annoying in multiplayer when you're wearing the skin of an African American marine, but you see white arms and hands on your HUD.

Most definetly. In any case, In that game you are silent throughout. Which doesnt make much sense. In one scene you watch a guy through a glass window. He's screaming and begging to be let out and a necromorph smashes his head on the glass. Isaac just stares on without saying a word.
They changed all that in dead Space 2 where he becomes an acual fleshed out character who speaks and reacts to what is going on around him.

It's a good game but it could've been so much better, i mean the engine and graphics were definitely good, and the design of the alien enemies were and is looking a lot better than what Colonial Marines have achieved. The same goes for the actual movement of the enemies , especially when traversing different surfaces.
It also starts of really moody and tbh the entire first mission(s) is pretty dang ok, especially for being a game that is broken into 3 pieces and were 100% of the focus wasn't on the marine campaign. I can agree that it was maybe "to" linear , however a none linear game doesn't automatically make it good. Most good SP games were you want a narrative and story comes from good game design with scripted events and a linear story to control the flow, you lose any of that if you go all open-world.
As for protagonists not talking, its a good old throw back. Doom 3 and many other games had this as well and supposedly the reason is that you should immerse yourself into his place rather than hearing a voice. It works 50/50, in deadspace 1 i think it actually was the right call to leave him without talking. For a serious take on it i was disappointed in how the Isaac dialouge was in the 2nd game, at times way to much MACHO..

I jump on every once in a while, rarely see anyone else playing. Sad for such a good looking game, but I share the dislike for many of the mechanics.
I love playing infestation still on Temple, and shooting other marines off the pyrimid with the shotguns alternate fire. It never ceases to amuse me as they fall off the edge and turn into Aliens. Wish I could make a compilation video of it.

Lol, I only pick off one or 2 each game. I don't think I play enough to get suspended from that.

I've always praised this game for having the best Alien A.I. of any Alien-featuring game to date. They look move, attack, and behave in all the ways I'd expect them to, and then some that i don't, even more terrifying. This game definitely presents the best Alien experience, both Versing and playing them, ESPECIALLY on the higher difficulties and lower brightness settings.
The predators a pretty awesome. I was a little disappointed that they don't have separately-animated stealth kills for aliens, but the visor systems look very canon-authentic, as well as the sounds and basic movement. Weapons are a lot of fun to toy with, but nothing feels quite the same as getting in their and ghosting humans with the Pred's shortblades.
Great game, I love the multiplayer gameplay a ton. It's turns me off a bit that finding games takes so darn long, unfortunately.
I try to play- I really, really like this game. I do, I'm in that minority. But it's dead, and I can never find any active matches when I try. I usually just play with friends every once in a while.

Well I played it for the 360. Multiplayer's barely kicking, mostly the Player matches, but it seems a little more active at night.

truthfully this games multiplayer was dead a week after it's release. even ACM lasted longer than that.
i just reinstalled it again to try and beat it on nightmare mode see if i can find any games going but it seems still pretty dead atm.
I still play on PS3. The player matches are on and off. Last saturday I had a full infestation match. You just need friends who still play it. We need to bring this game back to life!! 8)
I played this randomly the other night as my mate wanted to see it, had 2 games which were ok (apart from the usual cannon spammers) but on the third the connection was bad, I'm on virgin 50-60mb and I couldnt do a thing! I got killed 3 times in a row (was helpless against the host) got annoyed and turned it off!
If AvP had elements of A:CM (such as customisation, quick game set ups etc) it would do so much better (even with the broken melee mechanics).
The biggest killer for this game was time wasted between games! How you have to exit matches then manuallly search again is ridiculous!
I am going to try playing multiplayer but so far matches are hard to get going. People quit really early or dont start the game at all. Ive tried setting up matches but everyone quits.
I still play it on 360 every now and then.
Ranked matches are nigh impossible to find but there's usually about 5-7 matches in the un-ranked matches I can still hop in.

anytime an aliens game comes out and sega has something to do with it, it dies fast
Aliens Extermination got replaced with Terminator Salvation (they use the same cabinet, just installed a different program); not even the arcade games stand a chance.
I popped in the my copy for the 360 again two days ago and completed the three campaigns on hard mode.
Still maintain this has one of the best stories of any AvP media out there. No stupid team-ups, no silly hybrids that use guns, the Predator culture is expanded on without clashing with what we saw in the movies (which should always take precedence over their lesser offspring stories).
The gameplay was fun and worked well in single-player, and the campaigns were a very cinematic experience.
Hell, the multiplayer would've been good if it the Preds were balanced properly and the matchmaking wasn't laggy and shit.
This game was killed by a handful of stupid flaws that crippled what was otherwise the best thing to happen to AvP since the PC FPS games.
Popped it into my xbox after 2 weeks and played for 2 hours straight in player matches with full lobbies.
Was fun.
I'm surprised people still play this game, moreso for Xbox cause you have to pay per month for multiplayer and I wouldn't waste my time on this game if I had that looming over my shoulder. Don't get me wrong, this was definitely a fun game to play and get addicted to but after obtaining 100% trophies and getting Rank 43, there just doesn't seem to be much incentive for me to play a game where it takes 10-20 minutes to find a match and then have to deal with Alien tail whip whores and other spammers on a regular basis.
