Title: 1 year down, 1 year to go?
Post by: War Wager on Dec 31, 2008, 11:12:35 PM
AvP2 starting getting into talks mid 2006 right? Well considering that the series is back on the road again (in theatres that is) do you think the next movie could be in talks around late 2009/early 2010?

I personally think there wont be another one.
The AvP franchise is at the bottom now, most of the fans hate the movies and AvP-R didn't made that much money in the US so i think that was really it, like Davis said.

i think it was a big enough hit to mack a 3rd. they will keep making them until it is unprofitable. and then there will be new scifi tv movies.

I doubt we will see another movie at all due to the poor failer of AVPR.

The franchise sure ain't dead, we will get something in the coming years. 'AvPR' might have been a failure gross-wise, but it still made enough to warrent a sequel. (Not necessarily an AvP one)

I want to see how well Avatar does first.

And remember Ridley Scott is making another science fiction movie (Forever War I think).

Maybe this will increase the public's demand for big spectacle scifi movies like they used to make back in the 70s and 80s.

Sigourney Weaver could still do a comeback given how popular her character still is.

So there is still hope (not for AVP2, but Alien 5, but that might re-ignite interest in another AVP movie, or even a Predator 3).

Considering Davis' intentions at this point, a Predator sequel/remake seems to be next on the list. Makes sense in a way, 'AvPR' sure increased the Predator's popularity.

Yeah but at this stage they're more likely to make it a crappy, low budget action movie like Starship Troopers 3.

A direct to video movie would not suprise me. Coming soon in 2009, "AVP3" now on Blu Ray and DVD with Jean-Claude Van Damme as the lead role".

Hmmm...wonder if he would do the "splits" while fighting a Predator?  :D

If AVP3 does in fact come out in theaters, the earliest release date would be somewhere in 2010. Furthermore, if they've already made 8 movies about Aliens and Predators already, I'm fairly certain they will continue making them because of there popularity. Look, AVPR may have only made about $41,000,000 in the U.S. box office, but that's still a lot more money than some other films that were much better. And because it's FOX, we should feel lucky, cuz FOX tends to go where the money is, and there is still plenty of money to make from Alien and Predator movies. And I have a feeling that if they are going to indeed create a third AVP, I know it may sound crazy, but I believe they will make it something worthwhile. A movie that is a good "finishing touch" so to speak. Kind of what "Rocky Balboa" did to the "Rocky" franchise: "Rocky Balboa" wasn't better than "Rocky" or "Rocky II", but it was better than the next three and left you with a good taste in your mouth. That's what I think AVP3 will do, though I don't believe it will surpass "Alien", "Aliens", or "Predator", I could see it being a much more enjoyable film compared to the last few that have come out of the Alien and Predator franchises.

After AvP-R, it wouldn't surprise me at all for a direct to DVD.  It's the only next step down in quality.

You should at least watch it.  Torrent it if you don't want to support Fox.

Does it suck? Maybe
Is it a waste of time?  Maybe..
BUT...is it a disgrace to the franchise? Yes.

...where am I going with this???

Oh stop complaining about AVPR. It was gruesome and full of action and had our two favorite bad asses killing each other. The more you critique a movie to trying to fulfill all of your hopes and dreams for it, the more it's going to disapoint you. So just be thankful they made it at all. And hey, personnaly I really enjoyed it.

Ok, but if you make a movie and especially movie with such characters like Alien and Predator you should at least try to do a movie which will keep fan satisfied and not disappionted. If you can do the movie then don't do this. Anderson and Strause brothers now it know.

If I had known earlier that those movies are one big dissappoint I would have never wanted them to make them.

It's not even worth a torrent download, skip AVP-R all together.

wow people bash the shit out of AVP-R...i personally enjoyed the shit out of it. Also as a true Predator fan even if I heard the movie sucked I would still watch it regardless.

Oh, this thread is going to turn into a bitching fest on both sides, oh well :).  I don't need to be told not to complain.  I was stoked about the movie and was severely disappointed after seeing it.  Period.

"True fan" is about as meaningless a statement as "gritty" or "hardcore".
