I only caught it myself three to four years ago, despite watching it over and over and over since I was 10. Stan Winston's attention to detail is unmatched.

Its a detail that's hard to miss, but I'm glad its there,  You can't beat Stan Winston when it comes to Predators! In an interview once, Stan Winston was comparing differences between predators like that of snakes. Perhaps he always thought of them with that aesthetic and that is where the forked tongue came into play.

The point is the attention to detail isn't shown anymore. By the teams to work on every Predator sequel, that isn't Predator 2.

Well sure, but people still overlook it.

I appreciate it and I'm all for making the creature more realistic by adding parts, but I just don't see why someone would lose sleep over it's lack of inclusion on later suits. Like what would we have it do aside from flick around? Like do we need to have at least one close-up to remind people its there? Like sure we could have it at least sculpted into the mouth but then again we don't get that many shots where we'd get a good angle on the mouth. I feel like knowing they have one is good enough since you actually have to remind people of it or point it out almost 30 years later.

Agreed. It's there and it does help give a better picture of how the Predator is formed, but I'm not sure how you could include that thing in a shot and it not be the focal point every time  (tbh I don't think it needs to be highlighted.) Unless it has a particular purpose.

I always thought the tongue looked silly and was glad it never showed up again.

Not subconsciously. Sure they don't zero in on the tongue, the musculature, pigmentation, translucency, etc. but it all culminates to a superior monster experience.

It's like bad versus good CG, where a viewer can tell something was off, but can't explain why. That's the way I see it.

Don't discount it SIM.  It's just one of many - unless analysed - je ne sais quoi components picked up subconsciously that tip the mind off to a more believable creature and far superior work.

A detail new Predators overlooked.

To be entirely fair, there just isn't much reason to include it outside of close up shots and even when we did see it, a lot of people had to be pointed out that the tongue was even present. I remember finding out about that detail a decade ago and to have people still not noticing it until recently makes the detail interesting, but ultimately superfluous.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the small details like the tongue being on the head. However I can't see much of a reason to include it at the end of the day when we don't have that much to use it for other than to acknowledge its there especially when it was barely visible anyways. I don't think anybody is genuinely losing sleep over it not being used on subsequent suits.
