- Apr 01, 2024, 06:45:59 AMAlien series hit all the right buttons. To me the used but functional future was a great aesthetic choice. It showed things that LOOKED functional and lived in. The Alien is the best sci fi creature design ever. Ripley was a great character. She was somehow a badass female character that made me NEVER question her as being a female lead. It never even occurred to me like it does in some of these more forced mary sue roles because she was so much more human. She isn't good at everything, and struggles with many things, but always gets the job done.
The settings were also unique. I remember the first three movies setting of Acheron/Nostromo, Acheron/LV426/Hadley's Hope and the Sulaco, and Fury 161 like I do the worlds and bases of Star Wars.
Those first movies to me, just did everything well. Even Alien 3 stroke a chord because I like depressive films. Can't be happy go lucky all the time, occasionally gotta get smacked on the dick to realize life isnt fair.
Then Prometheus came out and ruined everything.

Mask. It was Scar's Biomask Delux with dreads attatched and underneath Pred face w/mandibles.

The Predator films was different. I found the aesthetic of the biomask with the dreads so beguiling, that I one day got my own. I always root for the Yautja, though I know his fate is to perish in a shroom of nuclear boom.
Both franchises were introduced to me by my elder sibling. They made me watch Aliens and Predator, and I am eternally grateful.

- Mar 07, 2024, 11:07:21 PMWhat made me a fan ofthis franchise was the creature design I love unique alien designs in my Sci fi(massive star wars fan who also loves halo) but also the other designs such as the retro futurism of everything wich iind incredibly unique as most Sci fi makes everything high tech so the opposite was great. I'm also massively in love with all the colonial marines equipment Sci fi military stuff really sticks with me and I enjoy the aesthetic a great deal

- Jan 25, 2024, 01:25:29 PMI remember being aware of the films from popular culture at the time but not necessarily a fan. For example TV might reference or parody bits of the films so I had a general sense of what they were about. But my interest really peaked when the 1993 VHS trilogy was released so I really started doing my research about then, and constantly drawing the aliens at about that age too. I was still too young to watch them obviously and wouldn't end up seeing them until about 1995 when I was 8. So those few years of curiosity and anticipation before then really did reinforce that mentality of being a fan. Predator 1/2 I probably watched a year after that and naturally really enjoyed those. Through the eyes of a kid Pred 2 seemed like the ultimate sequel lol. But my real love of Pred grew when AVP Classic first came out and I swiftly went out to buy a copy of the novel AVP: Prey.

- Jan 23, 2024, 07:39:46 PMFor me I'm kinda embarrassed to admit it but I was 6 the first time I watched Predator (1987) and I didn't think it was all that, at the time I was just more into stuff like "The Lord of the Rings" and "Star Wars", it wasn't until about a year ago that I decided to rewatch Predator because I had remembered my Dad telling me how big of a fan he was when it came out.
So there I am, watching the Predator film and not expecting much to have changed since the last time I watched it because in my head I just thought, "I didn't like it back then, I doubt it would have gotten better now" Boy was I wrong, I fell in love with the franchise and went on a spree of Alien and Predator movie watching marathons but the exact moment when I realized this was something I want to be apart of? When Billy Sole is standing there and he admits that's he afraid. Felt like a life-changing experience, and when he's all like "We're all gonna die" I felt like I was included in that collective "we" and I was put immediately in a fight or flight mode.
One of my favorite movies of all time and one of the best franchises out there
