Detail textures are an extra texture that is overlapped onto pre-existing textures in the world you are in. They just make the textures look better.

You might want to try running AvP2 with dgVoodoo 2 to see if it helps you.

As for your other questions.

There are no full HD packs covering every texture. There is this though: https://www.moddb.com/mods/hqp-high-resolution-textures It replaces some textures.

As for widescreen, there are various patches for this, but you don't need an actual patch to do get widescreen. You can edit the autoexec.cfg file to do that. I have a tutorial for it on my website http://kingskins.avpunknown.com

You can grab the nocd crack here: http://avpnation.com/ Scroll down for the link.

There's a digital version here, and on ModDB there's a wide-screen patch.

What is the option 'detailed textures', what does it do and is it worth to even try to fix it? When I turn it off, everything works fine and looks fine I guess. Textures are already set to max detail anyway. I'm using an old laptop with Win 7.

Also, additional questions.

1. Is there any kind of STABLE HD texture pack / widescreen patch I should install for the single player?

2. Is there a no-cd patch? I just bought the original physical copy, but I'd like not to be forced to keep the disc always in my laptop.
