Quote from: Joblo.comAdd M. Night Shyamalan's 2017 film SPLIT to the list of art that has come under fire in 2020. I didn't really see this one coming but a social media campaign has been launched to have the thriller removed from Netflix because the story and characters are believed to be offensive to those suffering from Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID).

The hashtag #GetSplitOffNetflix has been created on Twitter with many of its users in support of the idea to remove the film from the streaming platform. The hashtag has already begun to spread worldwide but it's worth noting that SPLIT is not currently streaming on Netflix in the U.S. but it is in other parts of the world. This petition likely hopes to never have the film be available for streaming on the service in the States. You can view the petition on "Change.org."

I felt the ending worked perfectly. Especially based on one line by Mr Glass at the end

Agreed. I absolutely loved this film. With the Rotten Tomatoes 36% Critical Rating / 77% Audience Score, I was really worried where I would land with this film considering my great fondness for "Unbreakable" and "Split". But I left the theater yesterday on cloud nine, and really loved every moment of it.

How I would rank them (with no great distances in between):

1. Glass
2. Split
3. Unbreakable

I'm extremely thrilled with how this trilogy panned out. Great, great, great.

John McClane's review.

I enjoyed most of this movie...

Spoiler
Not really sold on the random secret society getting crammed into the third act out of nowhere, though. And David getting drowned in a mud puddle by a random faceless goon is pretty crap.

Also, I find it kind of hilarious that during the group therapy session, they restrained the vigilante, but left the serial killer and mass murderer untied.

Yes, a tad underwhelming... And so many weak plot points everywhere like i said earlier...

Glad you liked it.

Without touching upon anything else just yet, I do think David was shown to be stronger than The Beast.

I thought that as well

Caught it over the weekend and I definitely liked it more than the critics did but I do agree that the third act gets very weak in parts.

The first 20 minutes are awesome. It's definitely the movie I thought we were going to get and what the trailers had seemed to promise. The first interaction between David and the Horde was awesome and seeing where all of the characters were after Split was great. Once they move into the mental facility it got pretty interesting and I found myself enjoying it more than I thought I would.

McAvoy is the standout here and it's a shame the Academy will never recognize his performance in this and Split. This guy is going to win an Oscar very soon. Bruce Willis is good but to be fair the character was never a showy type of role anyways. Samuel L Jackson is great but unfortunately doesn't get much acting to do until the 3rd act.

The supporting cast is okay. Anya Taylor Joy doesn't get a ton to do until the end either. I like Sarah Paulson but she does a lot of monologuing in the movie. Spencer Treat Clark starts off solid and in the 3rd act he just felt like he was in a different movie. The gal who plays Elijah's mother was not good at all and her old lady make up was super distracting. David's son and Elijah's mom in particular are in two of the worst scenes of the movie where they try to give an exposition dump and relate it to comic books.

The reveal at the end did work for me though and I found what M. Night did for the universe quite interesting. It felt like an ending but also an easy way to open up the door for a future story in this world but I think he should move on to new stories now.

Spoiler
As for those two scenes...

The scene where our three supporting characters meet in Sarah Paulson's office as the breakout happens turns into some Happening level style bad dialogue. Elijah's Mom likens the breakout to a limited edition and hearing her try and talk about comics just seemed so strange. She talks about it like nobody gets that Elijah's plan is to have Dunn and the Horde face off in front of the world (cameras) and it seems as if M. Night didn't think his audience was paying attention to the movie.

The second scene is once The Horde is about to leap on Dunn and Dunn's son runs in the middle of the action and gives the reveal that The Horde's father was on the same train as David from Unbreakable and that crash not only created David but also created the Horde. His delivery of the reveal is so bad and I felt the cringe real hard in that scene.

I don't really see the point of the ending though, the secret society thing has been done in countless movies, and Shyamalan using this very common thing in his peculiar vision is disappointing IMO.

And like i said earlier, too many weak plot points, Mr Glass drifting with his chair like it was Gran Turismo in an almost no security facility, WTF ? Him using very random theories to get around, like the one with the guy spending too much time talking with his colleagues, i mean what assures you that one day he won't be talking that long and you'll be f**ked ? And that's what a criminal mastermind bases his plan on ? Common, way too weak !

The ending isn't even that bad.

Spoiler

I felt that it turned Mr. Glass into an anti hero of sorts. It's his movie after all. I was kinda meh about the whole secret society thing mainly because they actually killed off everyone... but I felt a sense of relief and justice as the Dr. was in the comic store and overheard two guys talking in the background about how the mastermind "always has a plan... always"

As for the rest of the movie, I enjoyed watching these loonies interacting! It's not an action movie so don't go in expecting one.

Just finished reading the full plot summary, and the ending does seem to be a letdown.

I think it's very interesting. I'm writing down talking points that I'll flesh out later, once more people have seen the movie.

Saw it yesterday, it was weird. While being interesting, there are stuff that makes me believe that Shyamalan is maybe not suited for writing sequels... Way too much weak plot points all around, sometimes the directing taking easy ways to depict potentially interesting situations... About the ending, well it felt... gratuitous i'd say. Is that really interesting ?
