I really liked this game. I was expecting an Loganish ending but the actual ending was quite anti-cliche and surprising.

I find the gameplay so addictive. I love all the mechanics and how they felt 'realistic' in terms of what you can do. Like how you could have people shooting at you, throw a brick at them, knock them out, get some ammo and shoot the rest. Also liked how when you fought guys it interacted with the environment. Felt cinematic and did the actual story justice.

I think it's a masterpiece from beginning to end.

People talk about the story and characters, leaving out the fact that the gameplay was not very good in my opinion. A great story can't save shitty gameplay. If Last of Us was a live action movie, it would be a pretty good movie. As a video game, I find it to be dull.

Can't agree, the story made most people look past the sometimes clunky gameplay and it wasn't really "bad" anyway; it's something I didn't even think about whilst playing, I was far too invested in the story.

Imagine what the gameplay will be like in the next one, It'll be smooth as silk.

The story and characters are well done, but the gameplay itself is bland and too linear for my tastes.  While it's different strokes for different folks, I would have personally enjoyed it more as a movie.

I think the storytelling is not overrated and pulls at your heartstrings at all the right moments.

Except for its Zombie-ish genre - which has been done to death.

The controls could have been a bit better for moments requiring platforming, while puzzling could have been a bit more imo.

Definitely not overrated. once every 10 years a tiny number of games comes along that sets the bar even higher for the next generation. The Last of Us is one of them games. Gameplay maybe nothing new but story and the emotions the characters bring to screen are some of the best I've ever seen in gaming.

One of my favorite games of all time and its not JUST due to the story.

The gameplay really comes to life when you crank the difficulty up. Having to be resourceful and stealthy was critical. The impact of everything was spot on, such as when Joel gets his throat torn out if a clicker gets right on you, you can almost FEEL it.

The story perfects it though but I could see it not being for everyone. My daughter was born the year before this came out so I believe that the whole father-daughter relationship formed over the course of the game really struck a chord with me. The ending though, that ending was so perfect with last conversation between the two of them and the underlying subtext of it all. Joel has become this monster to protect Ellie and you get to experience every little bit of that transformation over the course of the game. It has me asking the same thing though...Would I do the same thing if it were my daughter in that circumstance? Most likely, yes. The fact that its not an easy question to answer is what proves to me that its a story well-told.

The Last of Us is not overrated. It was rated good because of the beautiful story and  the emotion it gave to you.

I actually like escort quests, if they're done right of course. Fetch quests are the bane of my existence and I can't stand them. lol You are right though, gameplay wise it's not the best but it was still good enough to keep me engaged. My favorite parts were when the game would tread the line of being a survival horror game when trying to sneak passed the clickers.

Absolutely. The best part is the story, but unfortunately that doesn't make the actual GAME part good. The part you play is alright but not anything to lose your shit over.
It probably helps if you get invested in Ellie but I didn't because I hate edgy teenagers and that's basically what she is the whole game. Also it's a glorified escort quest and escort quests are even shittier than fetch quests.

The last of us is a masterpiece. It's among my top three favorite games of all time right behind the witcher 3 and bioshock.
