I think Blomkamp could have made a better Alien film.
If a person loves Blomkamp's work, that's their privilege. But when someone thinks a possible film could be "better", that is just the hopeful personal taste of one viewer.
- In looking at broad averages of a possible movie's popularity, I can't predict a Rotten Tomatoes score or IMDb rating for a film which does not exist.
In terms of who is the more popular science fiction movie director (based on box office), clearly that is Ridley Scott.
1. "The Martian" made more money in theaters than all of Blomkamp's 3 movies combined.
2. "Prometheus" had higher box office than any of Blomkamp's films.
3. Blomkamp has never created a movie franchise or made a sequel/prequel. Ridley's "Alien" started a franchise and Ridley made a prequel and sequel.
- Blomkamp hasn't even made a sequel/prequel for his successful "District 9". This shows Blomkamp's limited creativity.
4. Blomkamp's biggest box office film, "Elysium" has about the same ratio of box office to budget performance as what "Covenant" will end up with after its Japan release (box office divided by production budget).
- And now Blomkamp is releasing short films? That is not a good sign for his career.
- There is no solid financial reason for Fox to pick Blomkamp for an Alien movie.
- There is no evidence that he has the talent to keep a franchise going in terms of box office which can lead to more sequels.
