A predator with a rocket pack... vs Boba Fett! Now that would be kinda workable.

Pft. Predator uses a grappling hook!  :P (AvP Gold)

I bet Boba Fett will not leave his ship and will only do strafing runs

I still disagree that AvP is inherently incompatible with the cinematic medium

It has been the victim of weak execution...the underlying concept is sound

I could not agree more.

I'd be up to a horror film of a Predator exploring an abandoned human colony in an Alien infesteted planet

I really really really wouldn't be behind another one. I think each franchise is deserving of its own stories, and when the main theme of a crossover ultimately has to be them kicking six shades of shit out of each other, something has to give. I appreciate the concept is a lot of fun in games and comics, but in a cinematic medium the creatures are robbed of much of their creepiness and threat when you're rooting for one of them like it's a football or NFL game. There is glimpses of solid monster on monster action in the first AvP, and that's enough for me. The idea of more, even by more competent filmmakers, does not interest me quite frankly.

The rising ball of energy you see before it detonates in the first film doesn't seem nuclear at all to me.

think it's more of the visual; the sight of a Pred rocketting around doesn't, to me, have teh same impact of a shadowy/cloaked shape leaping agilely through the terrain. the buggers can jump that far they hardly need rocket packs anyway :-D

as to the gauntlet - is it confirmed they're actually nuclear? There appears to be no fallout issue. i just assumed some more techy thing given the electrical spaking etc, like it was activating a matter/anti-matter gubbins, or whatever. Sure there's a mushroom cloud looking thing in Predator, but any explosion can cause one of those depending on where it's detonated.

You scoff at rocket packs, but them all having mini nukes is acceptable.

What's your argument here? Yes, mini nukes are more acceptable to me because it's not as cliched as a flying Predator.
The fact that if you got a bunch together they could potentially destroy the surface of the planet and kill off all life. But rocket packs, nah.

Predators with jet/jump packs I honestly have no problem with. I'd imagine if a predator hunted on Pandora from Avatar they'd need something like that.

I don't see a problem with jet packs.  Although orbit to surface hang gliders would be quieter.

I could get behind something like that.
