The farther in the future the better. AVP has had it, and the farther you set it in the future, the easier it could be to actually get something unique instead of the same rehashed things over and over.

While thinking about this I have to be honest, there's have to come a point where the alien and predator both would simply be absolutely no threat to humans. The alien as it is in the movies; is a beast. The Predator appears to have hit an evolutionary dead end if we are to take literal that they are tribe like hunters with technology. Eventually humanity will superseded them both on the food chain. We're f**king evil. :) If the threat is made public, I'd give it decades with current in universe technology. Say 50 - 100 years and both alien and predator would be nothing more than another bug hunt. Of course a boat full of truckers are still right f**ked. :P

You are entitled to like what you like, but you pretty much summed up everything I despise about what AVP has become. Part of what got me into both Alien and Predator was that humanity has met its match, which is a stark contrast to more popular sci-fi like Star Wars or Star Trek where humanity is depicted as special and is the "bigger threat" because "we're humans we're awesome and unstoppable!" Looks like HP Lovecraft is the only avenue now to get the "humanity is nothing" theme.

All AVP is now is Predators teaming up with humans to stop the "bigger threat" of the Aliens or humans being the "biggest threat" mainly in the form of some corporation hoping to weaponize Aliens. Oh I almost forgot, some rogue clan of "Super Predators" that is not shown to be "super" in anyway except a trite depiction of beating a "normal" Predator. I can't stand Predator tech scaling (or lack thereof) after all this time or the idea that they aren't evolving. Part of what made Predators so scary was that they were ahead of you intellectually/technologically yet we hardly see any new upgrades in their tech, I guess creativity is hard to come by nowadays. As horrible as The Predator was at least it gave some new tech ideas for Predators, which is desperately needed. For example, that "Pred killer" could be the Predator's version of an Exosuit.

We don't need "bigger and badder" Predators. Just deck them out in cool tech. The work is already cut out for you. You have a technologically advanced race. The sky is the limit with what you can do instead of just making everything "bigger." Now Predators seem to be shown as the lesser threat to the Aliens which is against the core principle of AVP. The Predators are supposed to be as big of a threat as the Aliens, maybe even more so if they actually had creative writers scaling their tech. I see a lot of complaining about Aliens being weakened, but at least they aren't being in the trend of being upstaged by a "super" Alien in a haphazard attempt to try to make them scary.

Kind of a side rant but it ties in with what I am saying. The further in the future you go, the more original you can be in a stagnant expanded universe of recycled cliches. Hell, a creative writer could make their own universe in the far future that could have almost none of the typical Alien universe elements. It might even evolve into its own "distant future" universe of AVP. I actually would really like to see that. A nice break from the evil corporation/"super" predators/human-pred alliance formula. Showing humans and Preds advancing would also give them more depth as well.

I think that the Alien films should stick to stories set between approximately 2090-2390 but why not explore further into the future in the EU? The Rage War did a decent job at it and I wouldn't mind seeing stories set post-2693.

I think that Predator films should start to push into the future and that the next one should be set in a Cyberpunk 2025.

Yeah, we need an eco-friendly message in the nex Alien movie.  :P

haha, nah I rather see the shit hole that we ourselves left the Earth as. It'd be more poetic. David returns to lay waste to Earth and we're already dead.

Bring me the post-apocalyptic Earth thousands of years in the future, after the black goo bombs have fallen and dark magic has come back into the world. The whole place is a deadly wasteland (comes to mind Mad Max Fury Road and Stephen King's The Dark Tower). The last humans are living in a wooden planet.

hmmm I'm fine with 10 million years ago a drunk engineer crashes his bomber on a beautiful world. Oh and about 5oo,ooo years in the future would be neat.

Alternatively, how near to the present is too near?
I had this nice little idea of pre-Prometheus era story set with a super advanced luxury cruise ship dropping anchor and freeing the Queen from the AvP movie. I feel a lot could be done with a waterbound cruise ship setting that couldn't be done in quite the same manner as with a space ship, have the cruise ship have a core similar to starships and we can have a handy way to dispose of the Aliens and any witnesses for the final scene. :P

I do not enjoy this topic.

I think it's immensely arrogant to believe we'll win.

Seeing where the future of the universe is in The Rage War was really quite cool. The way humanity is spread so far across the galaxy that it's really difficult to keep track of everything and unique cultures pop up all over the place.

It did feel a lot like Warhammer 40k, especially with the galaxy wide war setting, but I liked that about it. I feel like a 40k/Alien crossover would work, a chapter of Space Marines purging a Hive World or a Space Hulk infested with Xenomorphs would be badass.

In fact the Aliens Genocide comic with it's Colonial Marines in Z-110 ANCW armor fighting massive hordes of Xenomorphs on their home world really reminded me of when the Emperor's Children held off swarms of Megarachnid on Planet Murder in book 2 of the Horus Heresy.

Anywhere up until 2700, let's say 2800. While I agree we don't need laser guns and all that fluffy bang, it would seem out of place anywhere past this point.

I would like to see Alien or Predator stories set in those years.

Good point, whiterabbit, I too sort of feel that one day we will surpass even the Predators because look at how slowly they progressed in AvP, they used the same things for at least 6,000 years (ever since the first civilizations sprung up) and we are where we are in Alien in less than a century, heck, look at Prometheus, that's just a few decades from now.

Although the Rage War states Predators progress quickly once you start beating them at certain things, stubborn gits lol.

Equipping humans with Iron Man type stuff in huge numbers makes it less interesting to me because it removes too much threat from xenos.

Completely valid point and an issue I sometimes find irritating me.

I don't really care what year it happens as long as some core elements of the series carry over. I prefer bullets in this series to laser weapons. They more "realistic" the tech, the better for me. It needs to stay a gritty, used universe not a clean, pristine Star Trek.
