It sounds like you're trying to sell us this film as if we were a distributor hahaha  ::)

QuoteI will add the same lighting and color grading as seen in AVP(2004)

Backlight... backlight everywhere!
Teal & Orange... Teal & Orange everywhere!

My advice?  Don't bother.  Go and make something small and original.  Enter it into film competitions.  Learn from it, then make something a bit more ambitious.  Build your skills until you can start looking at original features.

This is the best advice your going to get avpkickstarter.  The members who have responded to you already are experienced in this field and their advice is extremely valuable.

Also, if you honestly wish to be taken seriously please do polish your punctuation and grammar, even in forum posts.  I'm not trying to be an English Nazi by any means, just trying help.

Keep up the ambition young grasshopper!  :)

QuoteI've had a lot of experience by the way. I forgot to mention before that i am actually known as the best student in my media class. Also, it's not just my media teacher who finds me her best student, even the head of media from my school favored me most of literally all students and that is not a lie.

You need a showreel, which you seem to be working on anyway.  Simply telling people you're the best student in your media class (high school I'm guessing) isn't really going to impress anyone.

Your best bet is to come back when you're about to start shooting (ie. you've actually scheduled dates) or even while shooting.  When people see it's really starting to happen, they'll get interested.  For every 100 fan films that get announced on the web, maybe 2 or 3 actually get made.

My advice?  Don't bother.  Go and make something small and original.  Enter it into film competitions.  Learn from it, then make something a bit more ambitious.  Build your skills until you can start looking at original features.

No one's ever going to see any return on an AvP fan film, and you may even cop a C&D from Fox to boot.

Good God that was one of the most painfully ignorant videos I've heard. And that guy's getting paid jobs? :-\

DSLRs are great for low-light situations, but they're still cameras with video functions. Look at the BlackMagic pocket cine camera. It's the equivalent of a 16mm film sensor, uses interchangeable lenses, records at high quality and allows for RAW video output for a more precise colour grade -- all for less than the cost of a Canon 5D, or about the cost of a Canon 7D.

Okay i do understand that bad writing but to be fairly honest, it is just a panic i have. The thing is, whenever i type in forums, there is no 'save' button which tends to get at me so i don't take time to look back at what i wrote, i instead rush and post before my internet accidentally goes offline which it has been doing lately and has lost me quite the text in forums a number of times now so i need to buy a new wifi adapter.

To Xenomorphine,
I do know to worry about that which is why i said i would make the script first and show to a few administrators if i can so they can notify everyone what rate they gave to the script - only few people would see the script very few as i don't want anyone to feel those horrible spoilers hit at them while watching the actual film. I just preferred notifying people of this first before moving on to make the script.

To SiL,
I have had a number of different stories and great original scenes in my head i'd love to show but i am going to choose the best story - i have experienced multiple times how hard it can be to pitch the script properly but with my 'English class' grades i got over two years ago now for 'creative writing CAs' i have been averaging at a B+.

I am going through each camera to use but i won't go for 4k resolution cameras since that is often a bad idea for many reasons (won't go on about the disadvantages). From what i know at the moment, DSLR is great for dark areas
- in fact, take a look at this video as an example for why i would easily go with DSLR:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXl-DtdHTxI#ws

To SM,
Yeah i explained my bad writing earlier. What i meant by my 'shitcanning' is that i'm going to make this film original - there are certain things i will not do and i want everyone to know that because i am simply trying my best to make the film everyone would want to see. I don't want anyone to get the idea that this fan-film will just be a flop like the latest films and yet i'll still reveal a bit more of the film's story before release than the other films have. I've had a lot of experience by the way. I forgot to mention before that i am actually known as the best student in my media class. Also, it's not just my media teacher who finds me her best student, even the head of media from my school favored me most of literally all students and that is not a lie. She knows i am someone who wants to be a film maker. I'm sorry i do admit i rushed what i said before  but i'm not starting the kick-starter yet. I'd need everyone to be ready first before starting the kick and for that i'd need to make a teaser about 20 seconds a short teaser quickly and i would also need to show my script to at least 4 trusted people on this site.

Another thing everyone:

I am going to hopefully upload some videos soon within the next 20 days of some short videos i have made. You can tell me whether i can make an AVP film or not from those videos. I won't be using a DSLR however for those shorts so it won't look as cinematic as normal films but that's due to the money i have right now as i can't afford a DSLR at the moment so the real focus of the shorts is the way i've made them. The camera shots, the pace, the sound, the everything really (except for the camcorder quality).

First thing - study how to really pitch something.

As others have mentioned, a big slab of badly written text isn't going to get you $1, never mind the rest.

You need a polished script, concept art, profiles of the main cast members, details of your filmmaking experience.

Tell us what you're actually going to do.  Simply shitcanning the existing films and saying "i wont do that" doesn't tell us anything.

Worry about the script first. Nothing else matters without the story actually having been written. A lot of what you're talking about here is technical aspects which aren't relevant yet.

Although I will say, don't film on DSLRs. If you're shooting a movie, buy a video camera. You can get amazing HD cameras these days for the cost of a good DSLR and they're actually built for, y'know, video.

I'd worry about how to get permission and finishing/polishing the actual story, before even dreaming of Kickstarting it. You admit you haven't begun to work on the script.

Also, with respect, some of the language you're using doesn't give the impression of professionalism - which massively impacts whether people would be willing to send money along. :-\

Hello everyone. I am looking to make a full-length AVP fan film with permission from 20th century fox. I have recently received an email from youtube to become a youtube partner and two years from now, i'm pretty sure i'll earn quite a bit of subscribers along with money from my videos i am making some new short videos (non-related to the films) to earn money. The thing is, i want to be a film maker when i'm older and i've got quite the story to tell to make this AVP fan film. I'm hoping for this film to be the first film i make - i understand if you're worried that as a first film i might flop with the story or in some other way but i promise you i will not do anything dissappointing story-wise. The reason this would be my first film however for one thing is to gain fame on youtube since i also want to make my own made up films though that definitely doesn't mean i won't work hard on AVP - in fact i'd do my best to make it the best film ever and to make it a classic like predator and alien/aliens without copying them so much like predators copied predator. I've been angry with the current AVP films knowing their failures i just have a hatred for them and i'm sure we all know that AVP has the potential to be one of the best films made so i got it all worked out. I've had many ideas on mind for how to make an AVP film i've tried my best to keep everything covered but i do need some help from you guys and i would credit any helpers in this film. First thing i need to cover is to get permission from 20th century fox like Alex Popov did - so yep this is a non-profit film so exactly why or how would i pay for it do you ask? I would start a kick. or a kickstarter in other words so that anyone who's interested in this fan film idea can help pay for the budget which is why avp is my choice for first film as i am really impatient i've been waiting too long like all of you for an avp films and i looovveee analyzing films and i know that the budget for an avp fan film would be rather simple to get since there are sites like these to notify everyone. So as of now i would give it two years to work on the script and also on youtube making short films to make money that would help for this fan film as well. I don't exactly know what budget i'm looking for because if i am honest with you? I want to make this film entirely official looking but the problem i'm having is the animatronics or whatever they're called. I want everything to be on set - the predator on set like in the movies (simple tall guy in a costume) and robot aliens like in the first two films which were cheap budgeted as far as the film cost goes. And i'm also looking to make the film set with colonial marines like aliens so yeah this movie would basically be like james camerons aliens with some predators stuffed into the mix. I'm looking to have about four predators and i'm also going to make them incredibly scary (one of them crushing someone's head as an idea) and also i want to make it so that you yourself can pick the sides. There's no real focus on the predator being the main character anymore- instead i want to make it unpredictable but a new classic film. If you wonder why i won't go for being some hollywood film maker or whatever it is because i want to work with youtube as i don't want studios or whatever to mess with my ideas. There's a ton more to say but another thing is that i'm looking for a budget of about £300,000. I know that may sound like a horrible budget to flop the film with but i kind of would definitely have it all covered if i had someone i knew to help me with the aliens and predator face animatronics i'd spend about 180,000 on those animatronics. I also do know how to do basic effects easily like matte paintings, green screens, blood etc and i was wondering if i should make the film run in 48fps though that would slightly increase budget costs with the drive space required etc. I want to make this film simple yet flawless - I myself usually only like seeing films/shows that make sense like predator and alien/aliens and breaking bad - i analyse oscar material things really well but i also know when to have the awesomeness of the aliens in the film aswell. If any of you are worried about the script i was thinking it'd be a good idea to share a script (that i still need to make) with two or so administrators of this site so that they can give a general idea on whether the film would work or not without having to spoil it to others and i am 100% sure it would be a great film. The budget shouldn't be too big either as im not paying for vfx only special effects (set effects)- im doing the vfx myself. I'm also not going to make this film feature so much of the cliches we see in everyday films but yeah.. so is anyone interested?

You have to admit, we really need a good avp film and i would promise a good one without interruption from a studio forcing me to use a pg-13 rating or anything. I would absolutely do my best if i got the budget and that is a true promise my friends.

This is the avp film we were waiting for for years.
I will add the same lighting and color grading as seen in AVP(2004)

Don't wait on 20th century fox any longer to make a film for avp since they've probably kicked out avp from their business thinking it's impossible for a good avp film to be made but i promise a good film with decent actors about probably 15 actors that i'd pay for. I have a lot of experience with making short films with friends and i have understood that you only find dedicated actors when you pay them and that's what im going to do. I can spend about 25 days shooting for the film and then the rest is post-production :). Well guys we can either have a feature length film with subtitles and hfr options available or not. I really need to know what you guys have to say. And you don't need to worry about anything i'll miss. I'll add good new quotes, i have a greeeaaaaaaaatttt ending in mind, i'll look for some muscular characters to play as soldiers, this will be set in the future, this will be realistic i'll make the logic all true, there will be atleast 4 predators and there shall be a queen alien and eggs and predators will be true hunters like the first predator. Very hard to kill and each predator will have his own mask. I just need help on the budget from you guys and i know everyone on this site is interested in AVP - the more help i get then the more likely i'll start this film sooner as i do eventually want to make this new original classic film that was meant to always be <3

I don't want to do anything stupid i won't make the birth too fast of the aliens and i won't add super predators or predators teaming up with humans whatever. Instead it's more like the survival of the humans which have to be clever by using the aliens and predators to distract each other so the humans have their time to escape but that wouldn't work out for them. There would be spare aliens after them. I'd love to add about 5 predators to the film to be honest and please spread this topic to others i want them notified it'd help a lot. This film's not just for me - it's for ALL of us - i really want to unlock that deep hidden film we thought existed and this is a chance for it to exist. If you guys want to talk with me some place for real i could set up a date before starting the kickstarter for us to meet but i am in the United Kingdom so it'd have to be this country of course. I'd use the best dslr camera i can get with the best quality audio even a 5.1 surround or 7.1 and full 1080p res of course as i will work on every aspect to make this film seem like its not fanmade at all - i'd also have about 3 shots of the each scene just to see which shot works best to use as i forcefully want good acting i want everyone terrified of all species including the humans when they watch this film.

Don't forget that i'm working on EVERY aspect. Story, characters, horror, lighting, sound, angles, pace etc.

Now i need to hear you guys. I won't start a kickstarter any time soon i want the time to be right so you guys will have to be patient and believe this project will work. You can also message my email. Don't forget that my real concern is getting the right budget for this movie that should be only about two hours long. I also researched VGHS which only used a budget of near about $700k and still worked out incredibly well for a three hour show.

Now ask me anything you want.

LETS MAKE THIS FILM TRUE - AVP REBOOTED
