Thanks. I'll have to give it another watch soon :).
It's after Theron asks 'How long has it been?'
Actually, it's "How long?" so they could segue into the penis joke.
It's in the part regarding the cast, in Michael Fassbender's section.
Ok, I thought it might be, but either works as a segue into a penis joke.
Clearly I've watched that part over and over again to an embarrassing degree

Not from the movie but from a fan on Deviantart,
imo the best picture of another engineer vessel then the derelict class.
And probably someone who understood the universe better then Lindelof and Scott.
Ironically
Ship good, yeah ship very good.
Yeah I always loved the look of that ship in that piece. Here's some cool fan art that I found. Although I'm still no fan of the film I can't deny the concepts were very intriguing. The official concept work, the fan art, and the imagery on screen all had some incredible designs and ideas.

One complaint of the star map was that the relative position of stars would be changing significantly through time. But who said the different Engineers where
necessarily pointing towards the night sky ?
This concept art suggests that they were kind of saying : ''in a certain point in the future, your descendants will be able to visit us here''. If our creators modified each time the map, it would have been confusing for Shaw etc...they made it easier to understand.
The configuration could only have matched at a certain point in time. Logic would suggest that if humans found out when the configuration matched AND the found a cave drawing with a similar age they could certainly come to an understanding as to when the engineers first started showing these drawings to mankind. Perhaps that's why the isle of skye drawing was so significant.

The configuration could only have matched at a certain point in time.
Yes ... this match corresponds to the period during which humans will understand and accept their ''invitation'', being able to travel in space with the necessary technology. Engineers knew for a long time approximately when it was going to happen and thus estimated the appropriate configuration for this period and delivered it to mankind through time.

The torture.......heart......breaking......in....two....
Who is the artist? I see an "M" but can't make out the name.
Must be disappointing for an artist when the works that he put so much effort in and had so much potential for the project get rejected. I know an architect who works for a large company. He told me that his works get limited to the funds that would be available for a construction. Also, the higher-ups tend to ask for the designs to be conservative and boring. They reject a lot of the new ideas.

Love the design of the engineer, that suit he wears has more giger influence than anything else in the film aside from the mural.
I just wish we'd have gotten more of the mechanical elements. But yes, I do agree with you. I'm one of the few peoples that like the Engineers.

Yeah it's not the direction I would have gone with the space jockey but I thought they pulled it off well enough, size issues aside. The engineer effects are awesome though IMO. Having so little of Giger's influence in the set designs was a big downer for me though.

Wow, I didn't realize that scene used a physical chair suit prop. I assumed it was CG.
Nah, it was practical. There's a few photos from BTS with it in the background. I know the chap who has the "console" end of the telescope too.
Not just the chair, the entire chamber was an actual set.

Still feels a bit like a cheap knock-off in comparison to the original 1979 Space Jockey chamber & chair.
It's impressive but pales in comparison to the original.
In the Furious Gods, they said it was really challenging to make the chair look like the original. It seems their concern was more about having it functionnal i.e. the thing coming out of the ground, being able to articulate the structures that support the 'cannon'.
I must admit - I did enjoy it coming out of the floor. I thought it was looked very nice.

Here is another piece of pre-Prometheus artwork. In an early draft of the film, David would have taken Shaw (Watts back then) into the cargo hold of the Derelict where he would infect her with a facehugger. This particular piece of artwork is very reminiscent of Alien.
Interesting, so many changes were made before we ended up with Prometheus.
I think Prometheus probably has a more interesting development story than Alien 3 does. So much of that earlier vision was conceptualized and that just increases the fascination imho.

Considering how much content in 'Prometheus' is recycled from early scripts of 'ALIEN', I am wondering if some of that early and cut content from 'Prometheus' will make its way into 'ALIEN: Covenenant'.

My man crush on Fassbender is too obvious.
Wow wait a minute. Are you guys saying the chair coming out of the ground was a real prop ?? Not CGI?
They should have preserved it in working condition for some park or something.
Who made it ? Was it plastic wood or metal ??
The action of coming out of the floor was CGI, but they did make the chair itself, don't know the materials used.
Oh thanks
I wonder about the scene where the engineers starts climbing into the chair while it is still turning is that also cgi ??
I believe the chair could rotate on set, so just that bit of it raising up out of the floor is the CGI portion, great looking scene thats for sure.
Damn they should at least have kept the rotating chair for some fox theme park.

Yes terrific scene still gets goose bumps from watching the engineer climbing into the chair and throwing the switches.
Have you watched the Furious Gods documentary on prometheus? If not, its a really interesting watch, you should check it out.
I wonder if they did destroy the chair though, if they did it would be such a shame.
As far as I know the sets were broken down. I have never seen the furious gods. I don town a copy of prometheus.
They were broken down and scrapped off, I'm afraid. Some of the set pictures we received during the run up to Prometheus were off the chair in its scrapped state. I'll see if I can find them.

The engineer is holding the elephantine helmet in his hand and. The cape in the other.
That means the holes in the pods were before the outbreak perhaps ?
Good point...
Maybe its that or maybe those two came after the outbreak?

This is from the deleted scene where the elder speaks to the sacrificial engineer. The elder wears a cape and looks similar to the engineer also with the cape in the image you posted
Could be after the outbreak but why would they leave Bob in the hypersleep chamber ?
Ok so it might be a scene used to create a holograph scene.
They're not the same Engineer. Just wearing both wearing a cape. The standing Engineer is also carrying one.

Looked at it and agrees with you they are not elders though it is the first time I have seen them wearing capes outside of the sacrificial scenes.

Not to be overly dramatic, but holy crap that image is out of left field. If that is from a delete scene it could mean that the pods erupted before hand. Not to be overly dramatic, but holy crap that image is out of left field. If that is from a delete scene it could mean that the pods erupted before hand. I assumed they were just the engineers from the hologram but the ship could have bought the alien to the facility instead. That or they are the clean up crew. They look like sad engineers.
It's a behind the scenes still from when they were filming the hologram scene in the Orrey. I've used other ones from that scene before. There's quite a few in our gallery.

Not to be hating, but those tall white guys took a lot of the magic surrounding the original jockey away,
didnt Ridley see it when he was working on Prometheus?
Didnt he got any feedback from Giger?
We went from 30 years seeing that thing in a undefined state and now we are here and its just two tall white guys in a skeleton suit, i bet they cant even jump neither ;)
It feels like he's going to retcon the retcon and have the Engineers not be the Jockeys.
Yeah, it seems he`s going with fallen angels pretending to be god angle.

Here's a good article to read about that: https://alienseries.wordpress.com/2012/10/20/engineer-architecture/
QuoteSteven Messing, the film's visual effects art director, and the other artists tried to shoehorn in Giger's aesthetic wherever they could, usually bartering with Scott and Max to include more of a Giger influence on the Engineers' technology and architecture. The artists took everything they had designed thus far and infused it with more of a biomechanic coating than they had included previously.
"I think he [Scott] just didn't want the Giger style to be necessarily the driving force behind the look," said David Levy, "there had to be more, something smarter in the terms of what's the background of those Engineers – and then we infused them with the Giger style."
In short, blame Ridley.

It can't roll. Which is why they went with the old design and made it even rounder.

Inner human skull calling back to the big chap. Looks like it belong in the lore more than Zombie Fifield.
Several elements throughout Prometheus called back to that. Even the proto-Aliens had something that harkened back to the skull thing. It had Holloway's face kind of visible in a certain light iirc.

The Alien Covenant website forums have come up with lots of film theories including about this mural.
http://www.alien-covenant.com/topic/42351
One idea is that the movie ceiling mural design came from this painting by Christian Griepenkerl called "Prometheus Bound".

I wish that "pyramid" had been more like the Harkonnen castle artwork. I'm still disappointed about the lack of actual biomechanical detailing and style. Glad it made it in in some fashion, though.
I think the biomechanical styling will reach its zenith with David's evolution, if we ever see it. Was nice seeing the ribbed corridors back in the Juggernaut in Covenant, however brief. I like the idea of David replicating/growing the bones and vertebrae sampled from the colonists/embryos in cryo and decorating his jugg or cavern with them, creating biomech/bone cathedrals on his planet. A man can dream...

As the prequel stuff gets more and more biomechanical in design as David continues to tinker, let David
grow a Castle Harkonnen evocative of what he saw on LV-223 but more in the style of Giger's original Dune artwork.

Das it Nightmare, das it.
That's perfectly fine by me!
I'd think that's rather dull IMO.
I'd prefer they stayed mysterious.
I don't want to know how the Derelict,

Now ... Can we go back to planet David please? (jk) ;D

I do think that might be the implication. It emerges as the almost snakelike chestburster before that skin splits and it's the miniature Alien. I think ADF's take on it being an accelerated life cycle is pretty on point.

Some of those old games "get it" a lot more than hollywood does, for sure.
Yes, definitely, look at Isolation. :)
Yeah, although I more meant the endless slew of faux Giger in games from the 80's and 90's.
Ah, of course.
Yeah Contra definitely borrowed heavily from Giger and Alien. The boss in level 3 and pretty much all of the last level were full of it. Super C pretty much covered it in the last 2 levels. Contra 3 had it sprinkled throughout, but heavier in later levels.
lol You weren't kidding about it
in the video you posted:
6:30 Terminators, and a giant terminator
11:43 - The creature that looks like the concept art above
12:45 - Flying Xeno
13:40 - Somehwat Aliens inspired boss that spews xenos
If you've played the original there are facehuggers at the last boss that spawn from eggs. There is also what appears to be either a giant chestburster, or adult xeno inspired head in the last level.
The design aesthetic of the later levels of most of the games definitely took a lot from the hive in Aliens.

Love that pic
It's a classic.
She is the most gorgeous in the entire Alien series IMO
I prefer Noomi Rapace myself.
Not really from the prequels but a sweet prequel inspired piece by Tristan Jones.

This concept was for a canceled sequel to Alien Isolation in graphic novel form. A nice design indeed.
More connections with the prequels seems to have been part of that follow up.
The design reminds me of the Khmer architecture from ancient Cambodia.

It's a far superior design, lifecycle, and it's mouth is actually functional.

I love it as well. Must be a fan art though.
It's from the RPG according to my Google-Fu.
Nooice! :)
I can't wait, it looks so promising.
I love it. It's an in between the brutalist philosophy of Covenant' cathedral and the Gigeresque aesthetic from Prometheus.
Yeah, you hit the nail on the head.
That looks great indeed. Hopefully we'll see visuals like that in a film again, someday.
I can't wait for more movies like this and the RPG as well :)

Man, looking at the Covvy creatures without all the lighting and grading and added CGI, they just don't look good. In fact, they actively look bad.
That's... why they added lighting and grading and CGI. :P
But yeah, they didn't have a lot of time to make the suits, I think? The Xeno looks decent, although I wish they'd just try to make a proper animatronic for close up shots, without putting CGI all over it.
Well they weren't originally going to do any suits.
Darkness and limited use are the best and oldest friends of monster suits.

It was totally "OMG"-moment for me when the picture of deformed Xeno head leaked.. I was hyped for Covenant from this point on.
I still love that chamber of curiosities. I think it's a fantastic set. Shame the film moved on from them so quickly.

It's a shame Fire and Stone had to remove its Deacons, and that Covenant didn't feature them at all. I would have liked to have seen more of that little chap.
You know, I think I just prefer the Neomorphs over the Deacons. The life cycle seemed less convoluted to get there, and visually, I just prefer the white over the blue.
Yeah I do like the Neomorphs too. And I could do with a more straightforward life cycle if we ever saw them again as well.
I always took the visual similarities with the regular Aliens as an implication that we'd get something that looked like that regardless of the fact that the one we saw in Prometheus came about through a very specific set of circumstances, so I would have liked to have seen a fully-grown version on the screen at some point too.
I'd say that I'm probably in the camp that puts the Deacon and Neomorphs on equal ground. Would love to seen more with Deacon. But on positive side it's a fun little nod.
The Neomorphs are pretty awesome tho. The white is a brilliant contrast to the Stark Black of the xenomorphs.
The Neomorph's the idea again but now refined.

Definitely. The black goo is definitely some sort of template that seems to throw out a pre-defined form and function of a creature.

from what i've seen, most people think the neomorph is an awesome design and could have carried alien: covenant without the "praetomorph" getting involved. i firmly lump myself into this category
I think it could have worked, and I certainly wanted to see more of them. But since the whole film is essentially about "who made it, and why", I understand it had to make an appearance. And of course the studio wouldn't have it any other way. I just wish it didn't feel so rushed.
I'd've liked to see more decoration like this in Covenant.

I definitely agree there too. The problem is that the Alien comes in so late, it just feels shoehorned in and isn't treated well for it. Spaiht's earlier scripts for Prometheus when it had this kind of road suffered the same problems too.
That's why I've always felt they did the right thing by removing them entirely and shifting Prometheus over to being more of its own thing rather than a straight-up "Alien: Origins."
Covenant by comparison was very obviously the result of Fox thinking that the reason that movie wasn't super well-received was just because it didn't have any Aliens in it, and doing the reverse by blatantly shoehorning them in where they didn't fit.
They could have still been Alien movies with that familiar shape of the Neomorph, or the originally concepted Proto-Aliens, without the capital-A Aliens.
Yepp, And since the Neomorph is a brand new unestablished creature, They could get realy creative with its abilities and and life cycle and such.
God. Seeing that first footage feels equal parts like yesterday, and like a hundred years ago.
I don't think I've ever anticipated a movie the way I did Prometheus.

My God I was so tired yesterday. It was the anniversary of the trailer, not the first still.
The entire year leading up to Prometheus was fan-f**king-tastic. Just being the age that I was at the time - I never anticipated any movie like that before, and I doubt I will ever again.
Same here, not to mention that if it weren't for Prometheus:
- I wouldn't speak or write in English. Yes, I learned English only with the main goal of communicating with those who are passionate about Alien & Predator, although mainly Alien. Now it is useful to me for other things. Thanks daddy Riddles ;)
- I wouldn't participate in forums. Seriously, my first forums were in 2011, about Alien after reading prequel news & fake leaks on a geek blog. Since then, I've visited forums on other topics, but at present this is the only forum in which I participate. Sometimes I lurk on Reddit though

I improved my English skills quite a bit by listening to AVPG podcasts. And now I've finally found my fan community thanks to my mentors: Hicks, RidgeTop, Xenomorphine, HuDaFuk, Shavvie, Ultramorph and all the other guys who were on the show :)

I definitely agree. The lead up to Prometheus was a once-in-a-lifetime thing, and I don't think I'm capable of being that excited for a movie again. It was crazy because after it came out we were all talking about theories and such for months, and then the anticipation for the Fire and Stone comics started up. It was basically three years of excitement.
And then Fire and Stone came out.
And ?
And it sucked like the vaccum of space and tore LV-223's EU potential into the void like Ripley did when the Alien got blasted out the goddamn airlock.
Can you explain why ? I'm genuinely curious, because I've enjoyed F&S for the most part

Mate, it gets ridiculous. It has a few very cool aspects but it royally shits the bed, several times.
Eh, I liked it
Even when the Deacon turns into a big hill?
Well, that part was "eh, really ?" for sure (though from what I've heard they had to abandon their initial plans for Deacon because of Prometheus 2 being in development), but it didn't spoil my overall enjoyment
In comparission, I found Life&Death to be much more bland and generic. And artwork was certainly lacking
You still don't understand what you're dealing with, do you?
I never did bother with F&S or L&D. I was initially pretty excited for prequel concepts to seep into the comics, but when it happened in a big crossover event I ended up passing 'cause that just isn't really my speed with this stuff.
I get that DH had to play all of that stuff close to their chest, because they never knew where Ridley was going to go with his Prometheus sequel(s) and what he would upend, which makes it all the more shocking to me that the only two times they actually dove into some of those concepts were in books featuring Predators as well.

Great designs, the lot of 'em (including
The Martian's). Always wanted to see that orange
Prometheus one in use, and the main
Prometheus suits (
Planet of the Vampires riffs though they may be ;)) are probably the sexiest space suits ever put to film.
Idk, that orange spacesuit always looked kinda comical and impractical as hell to me
