If this extra content has already been created, it should be included in the game imo. I think we've waited long enough.

I don't really play online, so multiplayer maps etc don't interest me, but I'll purchase more campaign content.

I'm going to give GBX and Sega the benefit of the doubt and say that they probably began production of DLC after the major parts of the main game were finished. Probably sometime this fall or just before they went gold. So the first few DLC releasees are probably being worked on now or are finishing up.

Multiple releases over a period of months is also an incentive to entice new customers or bring players back into the game every few months, that is of course assuming the game isn't a flop in the first place.

I'm curious if this is a gamestop only offer or if Steam and other stores will have this pack available.

And queue the whining.  All major games have to have dlc ready prior to release. This kind of discount is standard and a nice inclusion. Nice to know they've got a good chunk ready.
Title: Re: Season Pass Details
Post by: Remonster on Jan 29, 2013, 06:10:52 PM
The DLC isn't completed, hence why it isn't in the game. Not everyone at a studio works on the same part of a game at the same time. So while the game goes into the testing stage, other people can start work on DLC to be released later down the line. That's why DLC has staggered release dates, it's all constantly being worked on in one war or another. Hence the DLC coming out in march and beyond, rather than right after release.

Now, if the content is on the disc and you simply need to pay to unlock it, then yeah, that's a big load of bull.

Additional campaign content you say?
Title: Re: Season Pass Details
Post by: acrediblesource on Jan 29, 2013, 06:31:22 PM
Makes me feel giddy  about how games are created and how they will continually provide  ample content to enjoy whilst still being apart of the 1st person campaign. Considering its not a Open world game  this content provides no nonsense additions to the game and replay value. Although how much of it is worth to mention. Not just a 'room' but an actual mission which takes 2 or 3 hours to complete.
Paying for it now seems questionable as we will never know what were going to get.

This is exactly what Gearbox did with Borderlands 2.  All I can say is that I bought the Season Pass for Borderlands 2 and so far the 3 DLCs made available are excellent.  I will purchase this Season Pass because of how pleased I was with Borderlands 2 track record.

There's a way this can be tactically good for the company and tactically good for the users. After all the DLC is released and they stop supporting it, they can release an SDK for those who want this game to continue on.

I get season passes for games that I'm likely to buy all the content for anyway since they're usually a discount over buying the content separately. I got the Mortal Kombat season pass, Gears of War 3 season pass, and Halo 4 season pass for that reason.

Exactly. Depends if they're following the 'Mass Effect 3' model or not, where it's literally already on your hard drive and simply needs activation.

Which, honestly, wouldn't surprise me with just about any title, these days.

I don't understand DLC.
What's the point to sell into DLC "Special Map" and "Special Weapons"?
It's obviously to break the mechanical Balance of the game and divide the community, right?
3 Years after AVP3 and they are going all the way again.

For $15, it's got to have quite a bit in it. The COD DLC's are $15, but I think they can get away with this because usually the zombies maps are pretty detailed and/or large. There's more to them than just empty maps.

It may not even be possible. Given GBX's track record, they'll likely lock out any element of developer functionality. We have people on Duke4net actually trying to do hex editing, and breaking apart parts of the game to try and get at the needs-be to do editing. Only to find it uses some frankenstein's monster version of Unreal. Something will likely be done on Gearbox's end to prevent any such editing.

I don't think Sega will re-release this game, they didn't with AVP2010.

The game would have to be a huge success for this to happen.  Usually we get re-releases (with DLC included) if its a "Game of the Year" edition or something like that.  Based on early reviews, I doubt A:CM would be a contender for this kind of treatment though.

If Sega is saying the Season Pass is 40% off what you'd normally pay, I'd guess there will be Bug Hunt for $15 (1200 MS points), two smaller packs for $10 (800 MS points) and a bigger pack for another $15 (1200 MS points) for a total of $50 or 4000 MS points.

It was fine back when it was essentially cheap novelty stuff. "Want this cool exclusive skin? 99%!" "Want this funny hat? 99%!"

Now it's... Five bucks for a couple maps. 15 bucks for a game mode... Way too pricey. Especially when you get into the "micro" transactions, like in Dead Space 3. It stops being micro when I have to start counting bills, imho. :)

DLC is ok if developers come up with new stuff that they regret not having thought up earlier, but sometimes I get the feeling that EXCLUSIVE DLC like in preorder bonuses is just getting ridiculous.
Title: Re: Season Pass Details
Post by: Vertigo on Feb 10, 2013, 09:47:51 PM
DLC doesn't have to be a dirty word in itself. For starters, it can be free (as it was in Unreal Tournament which, as far as I know, pioneered the concept). And it can greatly expand the lifetime of the game; I wouldn't be playing TF2, Civ 5, Skyrim or Dawn of War 2 without their DLC.

The trick is for it to be material that's developed after release, so it's not a left-off-the-disc buyer-screwing, and that it's priced right - for £10 it needs to be a full-on expansion pack (as in Civ), not a few maps and a gametype. Epic would give that shit away for free.

:edit: Gah, so many ninjas on these boards.

:Re-edit: Also, in my opinion, multiplayer maps and gametypes make for bad premium DLC as they split the community. Any extra online content needs to be usable in matches with non-buyers, such as additional characters or weapon customisations. Either way, once the multiplayer scene dies down, very few are likely to buy it (which may have happened with AvP3's DLC, I don't know how well that sold).

I'm playing the game on Xbox 360 and I've bought it!

Please don't clog this topic up with abuse for buying it - I enjoy the game overall and I will be buying all the DLC for the game so thought may aswell get the season pass. (I bought the extra bits for AvP too).

Any other people bought it?

I came close to buying it, but want to wait at this point despite how much I'm still playing the mp. Already got Bug Hunt from the Wal Mart edition, so at least I can try that one out without buying anything else.

Story DLC is going to make everyone laugh, and I don't think it's gonna sell too well.

OP, you're gonna be playing that DLC for about a month before the game is dead. Sorry.

That just means all of the CoD mouthbreathers will, of course, return to CoD. Less players doesn't mean "dead," nor does it mean a lower quality playing experience.

The DLC's, as well as the price drop, will hopefully pull some people back in.

AvP 2010 was screwed no matter what they did, because the Predators were op as hell and the melee system was broken. Those were core mechanics.

The core mechanics of CM are sound, which is why so many people are enjoying the multiplayer. All it needs is some goddamned support.

I bought it, PC tho. Id gladly trade my DLC for their development tools but knowing that some dingbats at gearbox are still working on this game is... something. Ill just be mad of they discount the DLC for less than what the season pass cost me when it releases.

COD boys are my favorite type of customer. It's a shame they don't scream and curse like they do in their COD territory, but they are such dimwits in this game. I have easily gotten about or over a dozen casualties as a Spitter in Extermination without a single death because not one of them thinks to look for me in the ceiling whenever I hawk big acidic loogies on them! In one match between me and a likeminded warrior, we easily guarded one area in "Adrift" from them for pretty much the entirety of the match! At the end, they never got it. They were hardly any better as Xenomoerphs as well. LOL XD

Hell yeah, why I'm spending so much time with it. :D Most marines still aren't used to Aliens, and if you can work with the terrible wall and ceiling crawling, you can easily get multiple kills every time by being sneaky and coming up behind them.

Whenever I charge into a group of marines, I am cut down fast, like it should be. But, ceiling-crawling can avoid claymores, grenades, most anything except turrets and the smartgun if you're decent at it. The Aliens do well with swarm tactics, at times, too.

Even with trackers, most marines seem to seldom scan, and you can see them when they do, so if you stop on the ceiling, they'll almost always run right underneath you in a bit of a line. Drop down right in the middle and cause mass panic, which can also allow your other warriors to fly in unnoticed. 8)

@ Fox, sorry homie, I'd totally be your wingman if you had a bawks. Or you could be mine...

I never buy them Season Passes.... what i do it either wait till something pops up that i might like, then get it. Most of the time i i dont want full DLC on a game, i may only want a certain thing say like extra single player levels or Hord type of DLC. But things like extra multiplayer maps i am not arsed about. Also i tend to wait for the offers on things like Deal of the Week that Xbox have so i can save even more cash and get what i want for half price. Like i got Rams Shadow DLC pack for Gears3, cheap as chips on some gears of war holiday offer. I might of had to wait a good few months longer but i got it in the end.

Anyhow the only thing that i will be tempted to buy for ACM is say Hord mode pack, the rest im not arsed about unless we get something like a new expansion pack that some how manages to give the fans of the Aliens universe what we want.... But looking at the crap we got i doubt anything special will end up on DLC but fingers crossed.

In my experiences, the ceiling/wall crawling isn't that terrible. I sometimes randomly fall from the walls and ceiling, but for the most part. My Xenomorph sticks like Gorilla Glue. I love sticking to the ceiling in maps like "Adrift" and just pegging Marines one by one while they are frantically looking around for me. xD = D

I heard from a fellow member here while playing with him that the Lurker's play dead ability also fools Marines multiple times, though he also says it's rarely used. I actually killed a Lurker player because I shot his "corpse" out of paranoia. xD

I constantly scan when i'm a Marine, I also look behind me too so the tracker covers me a complete 360 degrees. The first trait I bought and still the only one I use so far is the Aftermarket Tracker one. It also pays to have the Famethrower Attachment for your Assault Rifle or take a Incinerator. I have killed swarm attacks because of them. > = D

I've not got the game nor the DLC, as I was waiting for reviews before ordering the game. I'm still open to the idea of getting it, but it needs some f**king hefty patches and the DLc needs to be amazing, as I'm a primarily siolo player and I doubt I'd touch MP for more than an hour or two before finishing the game.

I might get it on Steam sale if they do a GOTY ( :D ;D ::) pmsl) edition with all the DLC for a fiver.

Vanilla maps are better(except aftermath)Promised guns at premium launch then removed, they promised exclusive content, what you got was stupid videos, shitty assignments,Gun camo's for guns that nobody even uses, shitty dogtags that no one cares about.

Considering the game has sold millions and there's over 2 million people who bought premium, these shitty things are far and few between.

That's the main reason I can't keep up with all of BF's DLC; their freaking multiplayer updates alone are 2 gigs minimum! Damn you, Xbox 360 Arcade console!!

I'm not huge on MP unless it's with a few choice friends, but I'm oddly enjoying some of the MP aspects of this game, namely survivor and escape. I intend to get the DLC to see the rest of the campaign stuff, and if there's a community at that point, to play new maps in the aforementioned modes.

Survivor and Escape are the only modes I play. Extermination is too boring. TDM is run of the mill too.

I bought the game but if they don't improve the AI and change the fact that you are always accompanied  by 1 or 2 marines,i will not buy it.Just those two issues.I know if a game is good it can bescary even if you are with other 10 ally  bots but most times it is scarier to be alone.

Btw i don't know much about programming ect.It is possible to do those changes even if the game DLC was already created right? I mean before it goes for massive production. Before the ACM ''main game'' was out and attacked by all reviewers.

Experience should disagree with all of you if you think you will be getting a better game through DLC.  But if you are perpetually optimistic or just plain stupid then you already think your season pass will fix everything and get the game that GBX promised you six years ago.

If GBX has the full source and desire to fix things they can. It looks like lots of the DLC is already embedded in the shipped game so they may just roll with what they have but they could change things.

Ive got about 10 years of programming experience but dont take my word for it. We will all just have to wait and see what happens.

It would be better to look at things before you buy them but in the case of A:CM the demos and screen shots that people got to see were all FAKE so the research they bought the game based on was a hoax from GBX.

A lot of people frowned on Walmart for releasing the game early but it worked out well for a lot of people that had a chance to see how bad the game was through the footage OF THE REAL GAME that was posted to Youtube.

Instead of buying A:CM, I went to the Xbox marketplace and downloaded an indie game called Shark Attack for 60 microsoft points.   It's an underwater fps that's very fun and its graphics are almost on par with A:CM.  Highly recommended if you are someone who can get over the graphics for A:CM and can appreciate a VERY low budget game with decent A.I., tense situations, and no glitches.

I hated Jaws Unleashed, the theme of the game was; "Jaws: The Giant THINKING Machine."  Seriously, how would shark be able to detect explosive barrels and then AIM to have the non-explosive ones detonate so it can zig-zag through a maze of mines?

Ocean depths are where great whites go to get laid. If you didn't fancy going down there, it's probably a welcome indicator that you're not into two-ton megapredator bite-orgy bestiality.

You had to go to certain parts of the map, but you could go to a certain depth and the light would start to disappear. Left you in complete pitch darkness, basically. Don't remember if you could go to the ocean floor at those map locations.

The game wasn't really what it could have been, because it had primitive graphics, more in line with 'San Andreas', than things of the time. The actual attacks were very arcade-like and not as fluid as they could have been, either. Still, most of the time, it was fun! Just had a few missions which were frustrating, was all.

There's even a zombie mode with zombie sharks.  These developers don't mess around.   ;D

That looks fun!

I miss 'Jaws Unleashed'... :( Silly and superficial, but was relatively problem-free and you got to play as a giant shark. Was never able to get it going on Vista, though.
Jaws Unleashed owned, holy shit. That game was non-stop fun and I loved it. You got to kill Shamu in like the first level, in front of a huge crowd of people.

Btw i don't know much about programming ect.It is possible to do those changes even if the game DLC was already created right? I mean before it goes for massive production. Before the ACM ''main game'' was out and attacked by all reviewers.

If GBX has the full source and desire to fix things they can. It looks like lots of the DLC is already embedded in the shipped game so they may just roll with what they have but they could change things.

Ive got about 10 years of programming experience but dont take my word for it. We will all just have to wait and see what happens.

They certainly have the means but I don't think they have the will or backbone.

Speaking of sharks, have you played PS1 game Treasures From The Deep? It was a tpp game, very interesting, I think it had also different sea creatures for bosses.

Wonka FTW. He needs to yell at Pitchford for stealing fizzy lifting drinks.

Hey, let me bring this back up, but would you ladies and gents buy the DLC if they in fact had a Nostromo and/or Fury 161 multiplayer map? How about other character models like the Nostromo crew or some of the prisoners, or even the WY commandos from the end of 3?

With the multiplayer as it is now, and patches hopefully on the freaking way for DLC release, I'm hanging on like a booger in an oblivious persons nose... not expecting much, but...

And here, please someone make me feel better about this...

We're all so excited for Bug Hunt because it has a horde mode with AI liens, but the AI in this game is so terrible you can hardly play it all the way through. :-\ Here's a gigantic sore of a question: do you think the AI will be tweaked or improved for Bug Hunt, or more of what we saw in campaign?

Some things will have to be improved in order to get good enough reviews to sell the DLC to people. If GBX plans to attempt to make money with DLC then they will have to address the AI problem or they will have paid their people for nothing. Best i got.

That Alien actually mutated after the AP explosion in the coffee cup that Drake and Hicks see as they're first exploring the colony.

I think it's safe to assume it was nibbling on that half-eaten irradiated cake donut...

With their track record, Gearbox will skip the shark part and roll out a pure donut Alien. Tbh I was kinda mad that for all the donuts in this game, they didnt bother to put in the one from the movie and it deserves proper recognition.

I would love a Derelict map (probably pay the price just for a Derelict map) and the commandos. I'm hoping for more weapon skins and customisation items too.
