Following in the wake of the announcement of a new AvP game from Rebellion under Sega, we have this to report:
“Sources tell Kotaku that Sega has pulled the plug on their upcoming Aliens Roleplaying Game under development by California-based developer Obsidian.”
Gaming website Kotaku is citing a recent sacking of 20 people at Obsidian as one of the reasons behind this. And there is, of course, the recent news that Colonial Marines and this RPG have had their release pushed back until early 2011 at the least. I’m currently waiting for comment on the news from Sega. EDIT: Joystiq is also reporting that Sega has withdrawn funds from Colonial Marines too: “As for Gearbox, Sega supposedly stopped paying the developer for “a while” to produce Colonial Marines and it has since ceased production on the title.”
EDIT 2: Gamespot is now stating that the RPG has been “indefinitely suspended” and comes with a quote from Sega: “We will have more news to share about our Aliens franchise games in the near future,” said the rep. “Sega does not comment on rumors or speculation about its products… Please stay tuned for future correspondence regarding our products.”

I never liked the idea of the ALIENS RPG, I can't see it happening...I hate Turn-Based fighting.
Blimey charlie. First up, we don't know for sure what's going on either way. Secondly, it costs huge amounts of money to make AAA games these days. Sega already funded what, 2 years of this? If that 2 years hasn't provided a decent turnaround, then sure they're going to stop pumping cash into it. Games, like everything else, is a business. It has to make money to survive. And you don't make money by continually pumping cash into somethinig. Take Killzone2 - it's done now but god only knows how much that cost. And that's to make it, let alone to market it. Sony can provide that cash because they see it as a system seller. Sega, like most publishers, aren't in that field, so if a game simply isn't going to make back what it's going to cost to develop it then it's got to go. It sucks 'cause in this case it's a game we want to play.
ACM CANCELLED?
RPG doesnt mean turn based. Look at fallout 3. that is an RPG through and through but plays like a shooter. It would work fine for Aliens. AND THIS NEWS SUCKS!

RPG does not necessarily mean turn-based. Too Human is an RPG, as is Star Siege etc etc.
I think im just going to give up waiting for any of these games. Including AVP3. If they cant finish the games they started on, what makes them think that they can start a new one from scratch. I'll probably have better luck waiting for Duke Nukem Forever.

Mismanagement... they should just let them complete the game and release it. It should've been released last year. By 2011 it's way too late, there will probably be another generation of consoles out by then. And AVP by Rebellion I'm not too excited about.
You know, for the last few years, I've been checking in on this website almost every day. No matter how disappointing the AVP movies were, I'll never forget how exciting the anticipation was...and this site is the reason for that. The day they released the red band trailer for AVP: Requeim on this site, I must have watched it 30 times...and it kept a smile on my face all week long. Sadly, now I only come back to this site once a week, at best...and it's never good news. Let's face it, the Aliens and Predator franchises are dead for now. No studio shuts down a game they've already poured tons of money into, and one that seemed to be close to completion...unless it was a turd. I was SO excited about Aliens: CM, but it's time to let it go.

Except if it wasn't done it would be an awful game, and given the current economy and the fact that two of the three consoles makers are starting to bleed red, it's likely the current gen may last longer than folks think.
Aliens: CM Dropped? Aww man... That sucks. That was a game that i wanted to try out. I dont realy care much about the RPG game (since it isnt realy my type of game genre) but why FPS? It looked interesting. ???
WTF - 2011? - You gotta be fucxxxx kidding me! I thought it would come out at least this summer, but "2011"???? I mean there will be new next gen consoles and new PCs in 2011 with better graphics, it will be hard to sell ALIENS then with an old game engine! I dont understand this if its true....

Face it they are gone, this much speculation over the last few weeks! there has been no actual real confirmed foortage or screens for ACM yes there was that poor quality snippet but who's to believe that. I wasnt holding out much hope anyhow as Gear box have failed with recent releases like Brothers in Arms etc which was hopelessley late in arriving and didnt live up to expectation. Seems to me like GearBox take too long to make a game and cant do a good job! Sega should look elsewhere in future.

Guys, it wqs clearly predictable. Alienc CM was in the very early stadium, there was NOTHING except sucky alpha footage on youtbe and couple of renders (renders, not actual screenshots) in magazines, plus stories about something reviews have seen during exclusive presentations. Even f**king trailer at the closed Gerabox party was f**king rendered in 3dsmax without any actual footage. Wishing and believing Cm will be released i this, or even another year was moronic. Don't blame SEGA, if you would see absolutely nothing regarding this project except of couple of static screenshot and two sucky alpha maps after a year of "development", you wouldn't put in this game money too, it was predictible

Now this AVP crap is making me sad... I could care less about an RPG never liked em anyway... But a FPS focusing around Aliens and Marines my favorite franchise, kick ass... SEGA better pull through and realize this is a gold mine opportunity!!! ;) Also Randy Pitchford is a cool guy... But apparently SEGA is greedy!!! Screw Predator fans!!! Stop trying to please everyone... Next its gonna be Aliens vs Predator vs Terminator vs Sonic!!! Screw that!!! Wow...the Alien/Predator universe is just not that successful anymore that everyone is just deciding to cancel all of it.
This cant be happening! A:CM was on the list of most anticipated games of 2009. Forget the rpg but what about A:CM? There is something about that game which makes me feel like it could even kick halo 3 or doom 3 in the ass. Fox would probably even have Cameron to make a A:CM movie after the game is released. I dont mind an AVP 3 (thats what i read) but only after A:CM! I cant wait forever!!

Sega took 2 years to figure out they don't like what they were seeing with ACM??? They should put more funds to finish it or at least have a decent product out to make their money back instead of spending another 4 years of tiem and money.
