20 minutes in and I like the presentation so far. My only suggestion is maybe you should edit your post to request anyone to message you for the link. Not to be a Debbie Downer, aside from AVPG'S forum rules on links to illegal downloads/streaming, right now, you have AVPGalaxy housing a link to a free copy of Fox's product. I used filters until the music was mostly gone, and I muted the parts where David speaks. Sometimes you can still hear a little bit of the original music, but it's not very noticeable.
interesting, i didnt really hear any signal degradation which tends to be common when dropping out background noises or environment hiss/noise. good job man :) what software were you using?

I use Audition for mastering on my music... Ive used their ambient noise elimination tools, they work well for the most part! Good to know youre putting Audition to good use sir! :D

Watched your edit and can say it's the best fan edit of Covenant to date. Very well done with the additions that were intelligent & increased my enjoyment of the film, noted improved light, excellent use of soundtrack & the 'Life' track from Prometheus.
Plus You also did a very good job with integrating The Crossing into the Motion Picture.
My humble suggestions to tweak though would be:
Shifting Advent to between David's last scene & 'Walter's' Final report & end credits. I think it's info is lost post credits
Add a couple more snippets of 'Meet Walter' (Funny how the room of both Weyland/David scene & aforementioned are the same) if possible
Last Supper ain't my favourite thing but I think that by adding it the characters get a bit more depth & love in terms of reinforcing an epic feeling that your cut I feel is definitely working towards in a very good way with what you've done already. It just feels as a home for all the major extras made like Prometheus Workprint does, it needs this
Finally I think a little bit of Phobos also wouldn't hurt perhaps, understand as a whole it's trickiness but thought shock flashbacks interspersed with Last supper or simply a flashback of one of the characters later in the movie(Oram perhaps) during a stressful moment would be freaky.
But regardless..even though I'd probably pay cash for you to add those tweaks somehow, congratulations on a great job, thank you and happy Christmas :)

Really great edit. There are some choices here that are mind boggling that they weren't the ones made in the actual film.
The placement of the flashback makes so much more sense, and I like how you split it up.
The beginning piece with Shaw is still slightly jarring. Especially that quick panning shot with her in the hallway. Its too bad you can't get your hands on the raw materials. I would like to see what you can really come up with.
I have a few more nitpicks that could possibly make for my personal favorite cut, but overall I think you did a really great job.
@Evanus, I think you nail it and I think that merge the two movies into one is a great idea. Especially if you will keep the best of Prometheus and cut the pointless shit.
You can use flashback and even flashforward in order to create a more interesting story and who knows, maybe in the future with some luck you will be able to turn three prequels into an epic one single movie. Overall, good job 👍

Thank you. Perhaps I will make another edit when all the movies are released, but I think that would be tricky. I mostly love the movies the way they are already, and making an edit that smashes all films together would require me to cut a lot of stuff, which I'm not sure I want to do. I just decided to make this one for Covenant, not because I wanted to fix the movie or anything, I just thought I could make the movie a bit better and more effective by making certain changes. :)

It's ok, not bad but sacrifices far too much to warrant serious approval as an alternative to the Theatre Cuts.
But in this case, Evanus did a great job, the best so far like Coalesced Chaos did for Prometheus Workprint by adding rather than taking away. I've listed my suggestions earlier in the thread to tweak this(Last Supper) but overall The Evanus Edit is Quality & a superb job on enhancing the film

Very good cut of Covenant! I'd really like to see what you could do with scenes/shots that were extended for a little while longer to let the atmosphere really sink in a bit more, allowing the movie to breath as it should've.
As a sound designer and composer, one of the things that I really didn't appreciate in Covenant (and Prometheus) was the excessive use of music and musical cues in certain scenes and I think you fell onto that trap as well with some Prometheus' OST callbacks. Don't get me wrong, I would've probably try to squeeze some of those as well on certain scenes but the music in Covenant (albeit being very good) is used poorly throughout and the extra tracks from Prometheus you added contribute to this fatigue a little bit. Also some sound effects you added weren't very well mixed and needed some extra work for them to blend in better with the movie's sound mix.
Once again, excellent cut with superb quality given the file size. Wish the Workprint Edition for Prometheus looked this good. This just proves that it's possible to make a better movie if you actually care about the editing and not the runtime of a film.

I included some parts of the Prometheus OST to make it a bit more in line with Prometheus. I love Jed Kurzel's work personally, but I thought it sounded a bit too different from Prometheus. I tried not to hurt the original score, I mostly only added music to scenes that had no music in it before.

Alien: Covenant - there is the theatrical release 122 min; thanks to Evanus we have extended edition 140 min (thank you Evanus); on https://torrentz2.eu/search?f=alien+covenant+extended, there is 155 min extended fan cut, but i can find it only with Russian audio.
Is it possible to find this 155 min version with English audio?

The Last Supper as I thought it didn't flow well with the rest of the film, and some of the editing is a bit rough.
The Last Supper is also the worst of all the virals, so thank you for that.

Yeah, I don't get why Luke Scott's shorts are so wonky when it comes to the editing. The ones he did for Blade Runner 2049 are equally... "unconfortable" to watch ::)
I enjoyed most of his shorts, just not the Last Supper or the Jared Leto short.
What are the differences between the first Evanus edit and this revised one? What are the "toned down changes and cuts" that were made specifically?

For the first version I removed some shots of the Xenomorph in the end, mainly during the cargo lift scene and the Xeno vision shots. I also added some extra sound effects and music throughout the film. When I was working on the new version, I thought that some of the changes I made weren't necessary so I restored those parts the way they were in the original film. So it's really just some small cuts and edits that I toned down to create a more vanilla extended version of the film.
Provocative edition, alterations I disagree with- but one unique observation nonetheless as one narrative.
Evanus' Edit is the best fancut at the moment of the film.
Coalesced Chaos' fancut is very intelligently cut also & is more comprehensive by including everything, includes Last Supper, Phobos, virals and puts Advent where I think it should be before the end credits but ultimately it is a very close second imo, it's just too epic but for this reason alone, the Evanus edit is No.1-
It has a more powerful opening in the lead up to the AC opening credits with the close up of David crying as he's about to drop the pathogen on Planet 4
I'd agree, though believe the Engineers shouldn't be seen until the full revelation.
& Phobos + The Last Supper dismantle the pace.
Good editing is often knowing what to cut out.
I still find it odd that "Advent" wasn't post-credits in the theatrical release. It's such a good short and the explanation behind David's killing of Shaw and her re-purposing adds so much to the original plot. The fact he's sending all this to W-Y would also be a nice move into Blomkamp's Alien 5...
I re-watched this, and I think it's perfect. Aside from a couple minor nitpicks.
1. The shots from the Meet Walter Viral in the opening are distracting, especially for those who know their origin.
And I personally feel it doesn't really add anything, in fact it makes it feel as David's literally just been put together as opposed to activated,
which I didn't like.
2. Paradise Lost's a superior title. ;D

@Evanus Hi, amazing work with your edit. Do you have subtitles for your version?
Did everyone else have to make an account with Mega to get this? It got to 10GB then said I was out of HTML5 offline storage space (and being win10/chrome the settings options are an unusable mess) and that I needed to create an account and download the app to actually get the file. Curious if the rest of you had the same problem or not.
Also Evanus, have you considered uploading this to torrent sites? Include all the disclaimers etc but it's a really good idea IMO.

I think it's an issue with Mega and my ISP, i kept having to take arbitrary breaks of arbitrary lengths between downloading bits of it too.
If you do add it to a torrent site give us a heads up please, i'd really like to watch the edit but Mega is just giving me a headache at present.

I'm glad to see it.
Just had a chance to watch this edit and, I have to say, it's pretty much the superior way to enjoy this film. I only had two quibbles with the edit, one of which was how the flashback edited into the scene between Walter and David and the removal of the song from the shower scene. The latter is the one that I have issue with as the Walter and David scene where the flashback was added in was a great place to put it but probably a difficult one as it interrupts an existing scene not designed for it so that's a best with what we got kind of thing, but the song in the shower serves a narrative purpose. The water in conjunction with the music (and the sexy times, let's be honest) is the reason Ricks and Upworth don't hear the warning call from Mother. It's removal was jarring to me and because it is a piece of diagetic music, not just a silly song thrown in to promote an artist on a label supported by the studio, it felt like a wrong choice.
Aside from the one music quibble this is a masterful fan edit and thank you for doing this work. As I said previously, this will be my chosen way to watch the movie for the forseeable future.

hello everybody! Just found this topic, awesome! I have visited MEGA link, but haven´t found subtitles... I read that sometime in 2018 english & spanish captions were available, but no subtitle tracks appear in VLC or PotPlayer... Anybody?
You might be confusing it with Alien 3 Third Cut fan edit, for which indeed the English and Spanish subtitles were made by a user of this forum (and shared in the appropriate thread). I don't think subs for the Evanus cut exist.
