Title: Aliens: Colonial Marines 'Bug Hunt' Available Today
Post by: ikarop on Mar 19, 2013, 04:58:57 PM

The new multiplayer DLC for Aliens: Colonial Marines, entitled Bug Hunt, is available today on PC, PlayStation 3* and Xbox 360 for $14.99/£9.99/14,99€. Some gameplay footage of the new mode can be found below.

“Bug Hunt is an objective based horde mode where accuracy and teamwork are key as you battle to survive 30 waves of increasingly challenging xenos and enemy Weyland-Yutani soldiers. Fight the fear across 3 brand-new maps: Broadside, Mercenary and Tribute. Spend money earned from killing xenos and enemy soldiers on extra guns, ammo and health as well as opening up access to new areas of the map and suppressing enemy waves by capturing beacon points.”

*According to Gearbox Software, the DLC should arrive to the European PSN on Wednesday, March 20.

It's quite pricey for a single pack tbh. I've seen people offer the season pass for roughly the same price as this DLC (~19€).

I'd be okay if it was a downloadable title by itself, a simple Left4Dead/COD Zombies clone with Aliens. For ten bucks that's about all it's worth.

15 dollars for this single game mode with no variety of customizable options or splitscreen? No thanks!  :o

I got the whole season pass for $20 on Greenman gaming (before the game came out). $15 for just a new game mode is way overpriced.  Undead Nightmare for Read Dead Redemption was $10 and that included singleplayer and multiplayer content.

WUT..?  $30 for THIS..?!

You expect us to fork out ANOTHER $30 for this retarded mess of a game?

You've got to be joking, SEGA.

...or did April the 1st arrive a little early or something this year?

$30 for the 4 DLCs, Winde. $15 for a single pack. Seeing how much the separate packs cost I would consider $30 (can be found cheaper online) a good deal for those interested in the DLC.

I don't care.  They're not getting another cent out of me either way.

I'd rather spend the money on a box of gorilla shit (http://www.shitsenders.com/order/) and send it to them.

Does anyone have SEGA's address?   I might just do that.

I can't say if I'd get this if it didn't come with the "Wal Mart Edition!"

I love it, and will probably play it for some time, and I feel that it's shockingly worth the money compared to other DLC's (sans Skyrim, for obvious reasons) but if I had to actually pay for it and download it, ehhh...

If they were as smart as EA (or Maxis?) they'd give it away for free to try and bring some of the thousands of players they lost back to the game.

Nope.

15$ for the same shitty AI we all had to endure troughout the campaign... Are you kidding me !?!
Besides I still don't get the logic of being charged for gear, pulling switches and unlocking bloody doors in a survivor-horror game. What kind of role does cash play in your struggle for survival  ???

The AI is better than in the campaign.

Did you just say logic? How about the logic of killing hundreds of aliens on board a ship? Or being shot seventy times on one mission? That's kind of an absurd road to go down, especially when the mode itself is about the funnest thing in the game so far.

I dont think a lot of people are buyin it, or playin it. even with the patch and the dlc there isnt enough people for the game to break the steam top 100 if that makes yall feel better.

If I had a choice I would still probably skip the dlc for now because of the price but I got it prerelease and like 2 whole other members, im playin it and it isnt that bad.

There shouldn't even be a price for this DLC. It's akin to me buying a cheeseburger, getting only the bread slices, and then having to pay extra for the meat, cheese and sauces. Ridiculous and it only splits the community even more.

I agree and I still hope pitchford gets laughed off the face of the earth over this. This game has been nothin but a headache and continues to be even with patches and this DLC stuff. Hell imagine what its gonna be like when the SP DLC comes out and screws with the canon some more. A:CM is a deathmarch lol.

I dont even know if theres an upside to all of it. 60 mil coulda made a pretty sweet Aliens or AvP movie... or game. We could all be having fun and proud that the franchise isnt declining.

I mostly bought the season pass just because of the single player portion and at this point I feel like they owe me a free story to make up for the POS the singleplayer was, before we can even discuss additional content. Wont play xeno multiplayer without first person and I doubt thats gonna happen.

At some point I just got disgusted with the whole thing. All I want now is an SDK so I can make stuff and f@#$ em, Fox and Sega and whoever can do whatever they want and I can be a part of the community in peace.

Bug hunt is still kinda fun though lol.

After playing the Bughunt DLC for a few hours last night I have to say it's tense and a lot of fun. I bought the DLC pass before release at a nice discounted price from Greenmangaming but I hated the game for the most part.

I still think the game could have been so much more and still remain disappointed with Gearbox. If I was in Pitchfords position to sooth the bad PR I would have handed out DLC passes as an apology. But I am the lowly consumer after all, the only thing I can effect is Gearboxes profits. As I have vowed never to buy a Gearbox game again,  I can at least have that peace of mind.

I was going to get Borderlands 1 and 2, but not now. f**k them.

Also, Gearbox, Sega, the investors, won't be getting any profits from this game. It hasn't even sold a million copies yet. AVP 2010 sold over 2, with some here (not that I believe them) claim it sold around 4 million copies.

This game is bleeding money. No ones fault but SEGA and Gearbox.

I'm impressed, they have managed to capture some amosphere here and put out a decent dlc which could be the games redeeming quality (though i must say bugs/graphics aside i enjoyed the campaign, great representation of the film).

Bug hunt is best played with others, managed to get to wave to 14 on first playthrough, very difficult though even on recruit!

On my own i last wave 7 also on recruit.

Tribute is exactly what it says and a good one at that, the other two are decent enough hopefully more will become available soon.

Animations seem to have been fixed to a degree, finding it hard to complain really however WHAT THE F*** are the mercenaries doing in this and why no boss waves!

I give this dlc 7/10

That season pass is biting them in the ass hard because if they didnt offer it then they could abandon DLC and walk away lol.

Sega Portfolio Manager: im sending you in with Hedgehog 2-1. Theyre trying to get the risk management and WBS data from the Gearbox incinerators so we can see who caused this.

Sega Accountability Officer: Sir, what happened in there?

Sega Portfolio Manager: We shit the bed.

also worth noting xbox live members got the dlc a day early, psn got it today i think and those on consoles who have the season pass got bug hunt for free compared to pc/steam who just recieve 33% off with a pass so not all bad. hopefully where the consoles are concerned this trend will continue to those who have a pass?!

I have to say, i played Bug Hunt last night and had a BLAST!!! For a game that came out with such a medicore display of effort and passion...i literally felt slapped in the face when I had the end product......this definitely took some of  that sting away. it was fun, there is such a sense of team work and comradery in the mission
Having said that......i am really hoping for a Derelict ship map.......... and i think a Nostromo Map would kick ass. Would love  to make my way around that ship coorridor to the Narcissus!!!

The weird pathway leading to ops in the HFH mission is gone in this map so the layout is way less confusing. Tribute is a pretty nice map.

Played tribute for an hour and made it to level 18. I haven't got through the whole map. But probably the best game play i have experienced   in the game so far. Why couldn't the campaign have this kind of tension and consistent threat I feel. There are points where me and my friends are calling out enemies and strategizing how to barricade are selves from xenos and mercs. FRAKING dig in and relish this mode because this is good as it fraking gets

This bughunt map is much closer, although the walls are still red instead of orange like they are supposed to be. They did fix the color in the SP in the patch so its got one over on the bughunt version. Theres new little details all over the SP HH levels but Its still got layout issues.

Strange as it may sound, I really did want them to get this right, with all their claims of access to secret film archival material. As I've said before, it would've been great to explore all the bits that were hidden in the background or just out of frame on the Sulaco or in the colony.

Alas...

Bug Hunt is an absolute blast! With the AI improvements in the last patch, Bug Hunt can be a serious challenge that is well worth the purchase if you are on the fence. Frankly, this ACM is becoming the incredible fun game that we should have had from the beginning. Gearbox is starting to redeem themselves with this and the patch support.

I got this last night and was playing for awhile! Second game me and 3 random others got to wave 28 on solider - it felt like it took hours! The Aliens took ridiculous amounts of shots to kill at the end and the annoying mercs were getting stuck in inaccessible places so they took ages to kill.

Still quite flawed but quite abit of fun!

Thanks, Private... I was just on Steam and couldn't figure it out... Steam needs to improve the interface a bit... And provide better info regarding the items IMHO...

Between the patch that came out and the Tribute map, I might do the unthinkable... Not sure if I am gonna buy the season pass or just the Bug Hunt DLC... the latter would just amount what people spent elsewhere on the game alone, since it only cost me 39 euros when I purchased it...

Decisions, decisions...  ;D

When you buy the season pass you are paying for all of the DLC at once, but at a discounted price.

Btw why GBX never released a trailer for this DLC? How the people who are not aware of it will notice it and actually buy it? Great marketing strategy really...

I think they ran out of money. lol.

I dunno, that's something a bit difficult to imagine, given how much money Burgerlands 1 and 2 made and Sega threw at them.

But has anyone else noticed the new xeno skins that were running around, i believe 2 of them were on the lurker any update on if they'll be available?

Just beat tribute on bughunt mode.  That level was a bitch with just me and 1 other friend. Thank god we had another buddy join.  Honestly what's yours guys time beating that level?  That level took for freaking ever. All I can say is thank god for the 3 sentrys guns.

We had 4 people, on recruit, with 3 sentry guns near the end. Took us about 80 minutes. It gets really intense, even on recruit.

I don't think I'd last more than 10 waves on ultimate badass mode.

It's a shame that arguably the only fun/valuable mode for this game (Single and Multiplayer) was released as a DLC. I'm not going to support GBX through buying this game AND the DLC just to have a single fun game mode. So many things went wrong with this game. I never played this game but already grew tired of the Singleplayer just by watching several videos on youtube. There is no innovation in this game whatsoever. Shame really.

The only way is to buy the Limited Edition from your local game store or some of the online retailers providing the Limited Edition. You CAN'T unlock those chars in the Steam version of the game. They are not "normal" unlocks, they are unlocked via code redeemed later on so yeah.. if you bought the game from Steam you should find a spare Limited Edition code. This is the only way.

Well, I played the Tribute mode... First of all, the Aliens get WAY TOO ridiculous after wave 4... This is literally a mode to be played in co-op or multi... there is no way a single guy can get all those Xenos that take forever to kill eve with close range shots! But I am having a blast nevertheless... I am doing it solo to get used to the maps before fighting it off... I made the mistake of joining a game when they were already in wave 14...well, it was chaos! HAHAHAHAH

SO, in short, I like this AI more (not perfect, but improved a bit) but the difficulty is not good... I mean, the Xenos should win in numbers, not by having spend a whole clip or shotgun load to kill just ONE! That is just silly!

Nevertheless, it is strange that this Tribute level has better graphics than the same level on the game! The landscape, the rain on the ground (resembling more the demo) etc... Weird...

Have fun, guys!  ;)

This mode is cool, but it is wreaked with problems: bugs (not the xenos) :D, microphone issues/hiccups, and certainly, enormous lag and it is frustrating to play with friends, because of the issues mentioned, and without friends, because the AI is now absurd come past wave 6! That's your AI these days: from unrealistically stupid to unrealistically hard! For single player in Bug Hunt mode, that is! And It takes FOREVER to find mates to play! And the the Xenos taking forever to kill is not helping matters! Of course, with two or three, two turrets and a tunnel to prevent them from coming from multiple directions, it can be done! Still, not my idea of 'good fun' when you're trapped in a mode where you can't get connected to players!

They should build a DLC or a patch that enables us to have a crew of NPC/bot buddies to play with, because unless the issues with the connection/finding parties is solved, this mode is SP only for me! I am tired of waiting and waiting and waiting...!

So, There is still LONG WAYS to go for Gearbox! And next DLC, they need to either retcon or fill in the blanks for the story to make sense! Otherwise, there is no graphics patch, AI semi-patch or co-op modes that can save the beast!

Still, great graphics on the Bug Hunt modes! Why weren't they in the SP campaign to begin with, is anyone's guess!

Regarding the grain, I think it hides better the poor graphics flaws, but it gets annoying... good to know they will include a toggle option on next patches...

Although it is good to see Gearbox trying, this game took 6 years to develop... They are trying to buy us back with things hat ought to have been done prior to release, not months after! And a 4 GB patch says it all! The biggest patch I have ever seen for a game!

Nevertheless, this DLC and the patch are steps in the right direction, except for the film grain...  :)

Mad it to thirty with a friend and 2 others by holding out outside of the operations building with three turrets near the suppressor. Intense as hell, I also made it to thirty on the Sulaco/Sephora map...it turned into mostly Weyland mercs which was rather boring

haven't played AVP's Survivor mode, but Bug Hunt is debrained and utterly annoying... The Xenos are ridiculous in terms of damage, with grenades and entire clips to knock just one out, come wave 5, no kidding! A straight shot from 2 feet at the head of a Xeno does nothing, so no, Private, increase the number of Xenos,  if you must, but NEVER, ever do what Gearbox did to the Xenos damage points! That is no fun, just ludicrous to watch! The Mercs firing while running and hitting every single shot is not fun either! So, unless you're a fan of bosses (I am not, and it certainly ruins the suspension of disbelief to me) and incredible unrealistic almost invincible enemies and AI that has a Xeno five feet from you and next milisecond, is already in your face, almost like magic, no, this Bug Hunt mode is crap! I like the concept, but poor execution! The Aliens damage should have stopped at wave 4 and then just increase the number of Xenos on screen (I mean, already three on screen, if the AI was done properly, would get you killed almost instantly! Now, with five or six with that damage resistance, nah, I think I'll pass! Also, can't find anyone online for weeks now! So, it's official, the game is dead online! According to Steam, less than a month after its launch, there was nobody online! That says a lot!

Sorry about my outburst, but it kills me when a concept is good and then thwarted by poor AI and enemy evolution gone utterly wrong! We should be able to play this mode alone (we can, if we stay in just one spot and with three turrets! And we must be close to an ammo and health storage!) But with the Xenos taking so damn long to kill, it makes the entire experience annoying, when we see a six-shooter shotgun being completely ineffective against a SINGLE Xeno come pass wave 5!

I hope so, if only just one as a Hicks flashback to the events that depart from Alien3... I don't know how long it could take to do an FMV insert on the gameplay... The 'we got everything' is probably to keep doors open for a sequel, and given that the story was boring, snoring and smuthering as hell, any insert FMV shwoing us the fall of >weyland-Yutani, for instance, would be most unwelcoming given the retarded vision of Gearbox's Neumann fraud!

Having said that, though, I heard he was sick for a while,  and even though I disliked his 'vision' immensely, I am glad he got better! He should be more humble, though, when confronted with the fiasco of a story he wrote! And nothing he said in interviews match the game, so Gearbox should set the record straight!

By the way, the Bug Hunt maps shows some of the graphics included in the demo, especially the ground textures on the Tribute map, and if you peek through the window in the Ship map (never remember its name), you can see the planet's light reflecting on the sister ship and it is awesome!

There are "threat suppressors" in bug hunt that the marines must arm to lower the threat level. Once a threat suppressor is activated, aliens will continue attacking until it is fully armed.

first time i played this online...i connected to 3 guys already on tribute with wave 25 if i remember right....they made a defensive line with 3 turrets at the starting point in between/behind the two big wind barricade or what and the xenos had no chance....but im sure it was a pain in the ass to set up that defensive line and collect the 3 turrets

Title: Re: Aliens: Colonial Marines 'Bug Hunt' Available Today
Post by: szkoki on Apr 09, 2013, 09:15:07 PM
the only problem here that it has only 3 stages....

btw i completed tribute on soldier from wave 1...i was alone until wave 18-19 with 2 turrets in the first building, on the 2nd floor in that long tunnel...one guy came for a 2 waves...then he left but around 25th wave someone connected and im glad it was an experienced person, we activated all the supressors, got into operations and somehow survived the last wave without turrets at the respawn point

im so proud :DDD

but setting up the turrets in the corridors was the stupidest thing...outside they worked very well and in that long tunnel also but in the corridors we were manhandled by the xenos
