QuoteThomas Jane is in final negotiations to joins the cast of The Predator, Twentieth Century Fox's reboot of the sci-fi action franchise that will be directed by Shane Black.
The movie is furiously casting up as it heads towards a production start in February in Vancouver, with Sterling K. Brown, Keegan-Michael Key, and Trevante Rhodes being recent additions to the call sheet.

YASS.
Good dude. 8)
I like Thomas Jane and he should be a bigger star than he is but I'm hoping he brings it this time around rather than turning in a redbox performance.
Of all the castings so far, this one is the only one I don't have a definitive opinion about. He's been around but hasn't had any momentum lately. On the other hand, it's the only name I didn't have to look up to know who it was.
The cast is kinda cheap, like a DTV, we really need Arnold.
Now I can totally get behind him. Nice. I loved him as the Frank Castle. Not the best though. The movie he was in was flawed.
He's a good actor, I loved the Mist and the Punisher wasn't bad

All we need now is a supermarket and a kid and some fog.
wow... cheapest cast ever... but maybe it will be great
Now I'm interested in this movie.
*insert Punisher joke here*
He's great but hardly an impressive addition. He's the Keith David in The Nice Guys to our The Predator. Still waiting for a currently relevant person to join the cast though. Fox and Shane, what's the problem with doing what literally every other blockbuster does and cast relevant people?
http://bloody-disgusting.com/news/3422206/thomas-jane-talks-battle-predator/
Bloody Disgusting got the news late or early? They still mentioned that the suburbs theme was just a rumor where as presently the last two articles about casting mentions its confirmed that it will be. Shame on Bloody Disgusting.
I mean how much more elucidated does it have to be. SHANE himself confirmed that the film will not be all about the suburbs, so I think everyone's good and great on that particular subject. So regardless of what articles say, Shane himself said it will not be all about the suburbs.

They already had a big name with Benicio del Toro, but he had to leave because of scheduling conflicts. That's probably why they couldn't get Affleck or Hardy as well. So they seem to be going for actors that aren't well known names but can still carry a film. Holbrook is starting to gain traction and has gotten praise from early looks at Logan. Rhodes got near universal praise for Moonlight. Key is extremely liked from Key & Peele. Brown just won an Emmy for The People VS O.J. Simpson. All of them are still not entirely known but have turned in great performances. So that's probably why they're going for them instead of big names.
Heck, Covenant also doesn't have any huge names aside from Fassbender and McBride. But it's still a great cast, so I have hopes.
Lol Benicio Del Toro isn't a big name but I would've gladly taken him. He's an Oscar winner but he's very Adrien Brody-esque in terms of being a good, known actor but not a marquee name. He would've needed The Predator much like Adrien Brody needed Predators. Both B-list name actors. They're no Matt Damon or Hugh Jackman.
They're going for actors that aren't well known because that's all who'll take the project. Affleck, Cooper, Hardy, Bale, Del Toro, Franco and Ruffalo all rejected the movie.
But at least Covenant has a Fassbender. This doesn't have anybody, yet.

TV stars are increasingly more relevant than film stars.

Depends on the tv show. Game of Thrones I heard is very popular, and actors from that have headlined major movies. I don't watch any tv so it's all new to me.
Hmm, interesting choice.
Still hoping we hear some casting news with one of these names:
Quote from: ace3g on Sep 15, 2016, 02:25:47 AM
Some names thrown around before but:
Frank Grillo, Ethan Hawke, Sharlto Copley, or Guy Pearce

Another name I am not sure has been mentioned yet --- Joel Edgerton
Thomas Jane, my man! Yus!
Dude was also great in a movie called "Thursday." Actually, I haven't ever seen him in a movie I didn't like him in. He always brings the goods.
Honestly, i'm not worried about the cast. Some folks here need to realize that if it's true that the top-tier guys wouldn't touch it? That's just a sign of the damage the franchise has suffered over the years... But the flip of that is, many of the actors they are likely to get instead are going to be very hungry and want to do something with their roles to get them noticed. That's a good thing.
Excellent news. Very underrated actor.
Who else can they cast that is reliable but not too expensive....
Jai Courtney? :D

That would be awesome. Wouldn't mind seeing Dolph show up, or shit, they could always bring Adam Baldwin back, i'm sure he'd jump at the chance.
If they need any mad scientists or anything, Jeffrey Combs would be great.
My point is that they tried going after the big name actors, but since they don't have room in their schedules, they decided to instead find relativity unknown but promising actors to be cast instead. Would I have loved to see someone like Hardy leading the film? Absolutely. But I have faith in Black to deliver great performances regardless of name recognition.
Besides, it's been proven time and time before that a cast with big names doesn't automatically mean the film will be good and/or be successful.
And I would say del Toro is way more well known than Brody, as he's appeared in more high profile projects. This year alone he has Terrence Malick's new film Song To Song, the sequel to Sicario, Soldado, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Yeah that's the vibe I get. Would seem Del Toro was the closest they got to A-list. And they've evidently struggled with casting, but whether that's due to scheduling conflicts or diminishing brand appeal remains to be seen.
Thomas Jane I really like btw. He was fantastic in The Mist.
I consider getting him for this a big win! For me, he's an A-list actor.
I wouldn't be surprised if we hear Ruby Rose is cast in this, she is an up and coming low key star in action movies such as John Wick 2, XXX 2, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.
THOMAS MOTHER f**kIN JANE!
Perhaps the "villain" character of the film? ???

Same. I have fond memories of his performances in '

The Punisher'.

He didn't even add much to the last few '
Terminator' films. Unnecessarily adding him to this won't make any real difference.
He's had some good performances, of late ('
Maggie' might be his best turn yet), but I see no reason to put him in this project.
Thank God they didn't go through with that alternate ending for Predators where he showed up leading the Predator clan... WTF was that? (Yeah I know Rodriquez has said that was a joke ending, but i'm not convinced that isn't just him saving face when every told him it was a brain dead idea.)
The only way i'd want Arnold back is if they were actually going to utilize something of his character from the first film. Make him a Captain Ahab type or something. Do something unexpected with Dutch... Like... Kill him.
Killing Dutch would be thee most expected move from the playbook. That'd be awful.

I don't see how it would be awful if it were handled properly.
I'm intrigued to see what Black does with this cast. It's a low key ensemble cast so it will be interesting to see how Black uses the characters throughout the movie. One of them is bound to be the first man down regardless.
Still hoping for a 90's gritty Predator 2 vibe from this movie.
Hey, it's the guy from the mist who was in the deep blue sea and stared in the punisher... who's also 47 years old. I actually like the guy, good choice. Old and safe. Now all we need is Jai Courtney to lead this and they can begin filming.

Oh man, I would love that. So very very very much.
I'm actually pretty excited about this news. I really love Jane and he's fresh on my mind from The Expanse (which I loved). Really really happy with the casting so far. Everyone seems really talented.
Also I'm sure she's joking but Fred Dekker's wife's response to the news: "i love that all his scenes will be filmed at our house." and Dekker replies: "We did that just for you."

Continuity I reckon. It won't have to be much - If it were me, he'd have the General Philips role - an expert, someone who's met the beast before... you need to listen to this guy... can't you just hear him... "We came up against it in Val Verde in 1987..." it'd be awesome.
I'm pretty sure that Black promised this was a sequel - if so, I can imagine that there will be a torch-passing ceremony from Dutch, but I don't think he'll be a huge part of the movie.
And I agree with OpenMaw- it'd be rubbish if they killed Dutch off though! I can just imagine a Commando style opening (although Commando is the greatest movie of all time) where the Predator goes around killing Dutch, Harrigan, Royce and Isabelle... (though it probably wouldn't fake its own death in a fishing boat accident).
The cast certainly has talent so far, but i didn't knew a single one of them.
This is the first time i'm really happy about casting news for this movie, Jane is great, always wanted to see him in a Predator movie, actually in a lead role, but this is good enough for me.
I think this is great news. Jane puts a lot in his roles and normally doesn't put up with rubbish.
He pulled out of the second Punisher film as he believed the story wasn't what he or fans would want for the character. Instead he financed his own short sequel when he saw how let down the fans were. That's dedication.
Really happy with this casting and so much more looking forward to the film now, not that I wasn't.
Must be a major role, or connected to a character for there to be no details on his character! :o
This is a really good casting choice i think :)
This guy is a great addition, but I think they still need a bigger star to sell this movie. I don't think The Rock is a good choice. Needs to be someone else like Tom hardy, or Chris Hemsworth.
Also don't bring back Schwarzenegger at all.
Great actor! I am intrigued now... ;D
Really enjoyed him in The Mist and HBO's series Hung.
I have confidence Shane Black will bring out the very best from each actor hired on.
While the Tom Jane Punisher film may not have been that great, I can't fault his performance in it.
I can really see him in a Predator movie. Great news.

Tom Jane, still if it were his movie alone, it would be Punisher vs Predator Macguyver style NON STOP until Punisher or Predator wins.

Hung. I hated that it got cancelled.
Great Choice.. To my knowledge " Predator " has been confirmed, that is not a ' Reboot by the director himself.
No, not a reboot. Another sequel. Predator 4.
The Punisher would be the ultimate prey. 8) f**k, why doesn't that comic exist?
Glad to hear this news, one of the few cast actors that I have a degree of familiarity with.

Torch-passing makes sense with Sigourney Weaver's Ripley, because she's been in all of the other '
Alien' films. Dutch hasn't been in the '
Predator' films since the first. It could be included, sure, but there's no real need for it.
It all comes full circle.
"You shouldn't play with knives."
Incidentally in The Punisher is a young Ben Foster. He was recently in "Lone Survivor" based on the true story of Operation Redwings. he played arguably one of the most badass Navy SEALs i've ever ead about. Matt "Axe" Axelston. Dude was amazing in the role and i'd love to see him in a Predator movie too if he could channel some of "Axe." again.

Oh, for sure - there's no need for it, I agree. But most people think:predator - think:arnold (Danny Glover and Adrien Brody just don't pop into most people's minds, I reckon).
So no - no real need... but I'd be surprised if he wasn't in it in a cameo. :-)
Relevant or not- he is the first casting choice that I'm excited about.
Finally some good news for this film! Black kept talking about scale but after losing Del Toro it's been pretty depressing. Holbrook might be a good actor but he's not a leading man. Key is funny but in a Predator movie? Let's see. Olivia Munn? Neither a serious actor, action star or comedian.
We don't live in a time of movie stars who can open movies but you still have your "hot" list like The Rock, Statham, all the Chris's, Tom Hardy, Fassbender, Cumberbatch, etc. Black had RDJ and Kilmer, RDJ again then recently Crowe and Gosling so he's used to having strong personalities leading the film.
Jane never got the career he should have but he's always good to see in a flick, particularly one with action. Someone mentioned Game of Thrones actors but their list of duds is endless, Conan the Barbarian, God's of Egypt, Terminator Gen, etc.

The new season started yesterday, I think. Hoping to get chance to watch tonight.
Jane is good in everything he does, loved him in Deep Blue Sea, The Punisher and The Mist.
I really hope he has a substantial role in the movie, hell, i would take him as the lead.
Jane lacks presence.

Because it's not a big deal. If things didn't work out they would've announced it.
I guess I missed it in the Jane casting but .. Thomas Jane, who stars with Tremblay in Before I Wake, is in negotiations to join the cast. So they should have some chemistry.
