So... what are our thoughts on this article?

30 Years Later, 'Aliens' Is Great for White Women, Bad for Latinx

Not a good start...
QuoteAliens, the action-comedy sequel to James Cameron's seminal sci-fi horror film Alien, was released in theaters on this day, 30 years ago.

The main gist however -
QuoteIt's a huge drag, however, to remember that Vasquez was played by a white woman wearing brown contacts and literal brown-face make-up. Despite casting a non-Latinx actor in the role of a character coded in the script as Latinx, Aliens created a hero who existed outside of the gender binary.

Edit: Should have included the bolded line above in my original post, my bad.

The very first line -
QuoteAliens, the action-comedy sequel to James Cameron's seminal sci-fi horror film Alien, was released in theaters on this day, 30 years ago.

Not a good start to make your point, yikes.

Anyway, the main point -
QuoteIt's a huge drag, however, to remember that Vasquez was played by a white woman wearing brown contacts and literal brown-face make-up.

'Action-comedy' aside - what's your issue with the article?

Drukathi

It looks like an attempt to ridicule or humiliate the film.
Creates the wrong impression of the film.
Sets the tone for the entire article.
It seems that the author is a monstrous ignoramus, or just another woke-fool.

SM

So you completely missed the article celebrating the Vasquez character - but the author is a "monstrous ignoramus".

Yeah this.

Is Aliens gonna get cancelled now? Uh oh.

Local Trouble

It's already highly problematic because Ripley needed help.

"Aliens, the action-comedy sequel to James Cameron's seminal sci-fi horror film Alien..."

Alternate universe and time travel in one sentence.

Maybe I'm wrong, but this being connected with the heading "30 Years Later, 'Aliens' Is Great for White Women, Bad for Latinx" it sounds like.... #stopwhiteprivilige and #latinxlivesmatter from the author. Yeah, smear indirectly the film with your woke accusations, dear author.  ::)

???
I don't know. Maybe he hates to be white and male?

Did anyone actually read the f**king article or did they just stop at the small section about how it's kind of unfortunate that the Latinx character was played by a white woman in brown face and assume the entire thing was a hit piece? ???

The majority of the article is about how Vasquez is a remarkably progressive character in terms of gender identity and how she's regrettably overlooked in those regards decades later. The title is largely click bait focusing on a small aspect of the article which really does its main talking point a disservice.

When I hear words "action-comedy" being used in regards to Alien universe, there's only one movie I can think of:

Reading is hard when you're an aggrieved and frightened white man.  Especially when Gilfryd outlines the main point as being Goldstein browning up, when that isn't the main point at all.  All the usual suspects swarm on it like a turd.

You're definitely wrong.
