Which cover did you go for? I was really torn on this one. I love Stokoe's artwork but I went for the variant because I grabbed the variant for all the others and decided to stay consistent...

Can you show this visually plz?

I don't know yet. But maybe... less likely for the new stuff but we'll see.

It's the same art as one of the dust to dust variants, so it should be familiar. See link below.

I think they got lazy with volume 4 though. Because they didn't bother coming up with a new cover (whether plagiarized or not) for the standard version. They just reused Stokoe's dead orbit issue 1 cover, which is honestly my favorite cover art of all time!

So, I think the biggest benefit of volume 4 is going to be for the completionists who never got their hands on the defiance library edition, the dead orbit deluxe hardcover, the ACM prequel they gave out a at SDCC and/or the isolation prequel they gave out at SDCC.

The ACM and isolation prequels have had digital copies floating around, but there is a pinup gallery of artwork at the end of the ACM comic that's missing from the digital copy. I bet you'll get that full pinup gallery here in volume 4.

I think the defiance library edition had some concept art at the end that wasn't available anywhere else... but I can't remember for sure now. It might have been in the standard 2 Vol. Graphic novels too.

There was definitely new content in the dead orbit deluxe hardcover though, plus a new cover art for it. Im sure that content will be in this volume 4 release too.

Beyond that, there MIGHT be two other pieces of content that I know of that could find their way into marvel's volume 4. One was an image of concept art of a queen by James Stokoe that was never included in any dark horse books; I stumbled across it in that book "Grunt" which is full of unreleased/incomplete work by Stokoe. Then I know Tristan jones had an alternate version of that free-comic-Book-day issue of defiance where that praetorian creature was more like the big chap; at the time fox thought it was too similar to something ridley Scott was doing in Covenant so they sent it back and asked Tristan to change it. The change is what you'll find in every digital copy of that comic and every reprint of it, but a few hard copies had already gone to print before they could make the change so there's a few of those issues out in the wild with the original big chap art. Maybe that alternate version will appear in here too. We'll see...

Here's the Stokoe image I was talking about

And here's a thread with several images comparing the original big-chap version of the defiance comic I was talking about, with the version they changed it to with the praetorian thing instead:

Update: I confirmed from a friend who has Vol. 4 already that they have the praetorian-version of "defiance: extravehicular" (free comic book day 2016). They might still have the big chap version in there too as part of the extras, but I suspect not.

I got the variant, mostly because I got the original covers for the first three (sorry re:Land) and the Stokoe art is just too ingrained in my memory as the cover for Dead Orbit, whereas the variant seemed more like an omnibus cover. Kind of annoyed they crapped out on doing an original cover for this one.

Quote from: Engineer on Oct 25, 2021, 04:28:33 PMI wonder which version of the 2016 free comic book day issue they're including... they original version with the Big Chap or the one with the pretorian-thing instead...

My copy's supposed to be arriving in a couple of hours so I'll let you know.

(Sorry, Engineer, didn't see your second post at the time of writing. But I'll have a look at whether the unedited art is in there anywhere.)

One of the few physical comics I had before these collections was the original version of that short with the unedited Big Chap artwork.

That story was so bizarre. It was clearly intended as a sneak peak of what was to come in the series, but then it never came. Kinda sums up what a mess I found that comic to be.

Corporal Hicks

Just enjoy the first 8 or so issues and leave it at that. lol

I always thought of "extravehicular" as a deleted scene because clearly they went another way with it lol

Once I found out about the artistic change to that one though, I sought out a physical copy. I found one on Amazon for $4. Not bad, even if I didn't get it free lol maybe it'll be worth something one day, maybe not. But honestly, I think the big chap version is far better.

Can confirm the omnibus has the altered version of Extravehicular and I didn't notice anything about the original version in the back. Tons of concept art from Defiance, Dead Orbit and Resistance though.

Engineer

Did they get Stokoe's queen sketch in there?

HuDaFuK

Afraid not.

Engineer

Damn
That's a shame

I'll be getting this soon but one thing that the "Dead Orbit" trade had over the oversized hardback release was a more Aliens inspired pitch that was 3-4 pages long but still really good. So I've been wondering if that will be included in the omnibus or not.

HuDaFuK

It's in the bonus section at the back.

That's in the oversized deluxe hardcover cover. I own that version and look at those original concept pitches pretty often because of how hyper detailed they are (like all of Stokoe's work).

Engineer

I just got my copy.
It's missing this:

Also it does have the full pinup gallery at the end of the ACM prequel comic that the digital copy is missing.
