Perfect!!! 8)
Okay... Okay 8) Loved him in Sicario so I am down for this...
Maybe he can turn in a great performance so I can forgive him for Wolfman... J/K that movie wasn't his fault
Great!
Damn it! Why not Hardy or Bale? I love Del Toro though.
Appears we know what the hold up has been. Reportedly the start date moved to February 2017 to accommodate Del Toro's schedule:

Very cool. I don't think he's main lead though.
Loved him in the hunted. I think it's a good fit.

Why are they calling it a reboot? Didn't Black say that it would be a sequel? :-\
Not bad, unless he plays a pizza boy....

Cause in our times every movie that is not a direct sequel is called a reboot. Also reboot gained many different meanings.

That could just be Del Toro's filming though. Hopefully we'll find out more soon.
That said, I'm really pleased with this news! I quite liked Del Toro in Sicario! He's quite a presence for the film, I think. Though from the wording I do think he'll be in some sort of central command type role, perhaps someone co-ordinating a world-wide effort?
I approve. I think he's a good choice.
Love this choice. I could see him do something similar to Sicario. He could be hunting down a Predator because he believes it was part of several attacks in Mexico. Could this be the detective story that was spoken about before?
Wow! What a great choice!
Didn't even know who he was.
I hope it's not the entire shooting that's moved to February. If it moved back so far, it might delay the release of the movie.
If this caliber of actor is any indication of the rest of the cast, color me excited as hell!
Im more then ok with this news!
Finally some casting news, i like Del Toro, certainly a good choice, although my favourite still is Hardy.
Looks like Joel Silver joined as producer as well for the first time since Predator 2.

It is an 'ensemble' cast so there has to be two or three more 'big' actors to come.

I was actually gonna mention his role in Sicario being the reason I'm excited by his casting. And i was thinking he could be a Keyes type character. And if it is a world wide effort as you think, then that could explain why its possibly Multiple Predators, multiple hunts at once.
I find it annoying that deadline still have it down as a reboot in the bloody article title lol. Idiots

Bit late to the party, but this is excellent news. Can definitely see him in a Predator movie.
Great news! I just saw Sicario recently and he was badass in that. Plus I've liked him in various other roles he's had over the years. Definitely a great choice, and someone it'd be great to see go up against a Predator or Predators.
I definitely like him in the movie, Joel Silver has joined too?
My thoughts on hearing Del Toro might be in it:

Plot details are being kept hidden in mud but the new movie is said to be an ensemble piece anchored by the character to be played by Del Toro.Ok so maybe not a specific group.

I think that article is wrong though, Del Toro is not doing anything at the moment, everything has wrapped production with him in it.
Also, how are they supposed to make the Feb. 2018 release? If they start in Feb. they will shoot until June/July 2017, that would give them a really short post production for a usually visual effects heavy movie, plus Black has to shoot Doc Savage late next year in order to make Dwayne Johnsons schedule, he can't do post on Predator and prep/shoot a new movie at the same time.
I still believe they start next month, the sets are already build and the studio space costs much money, they won't wait another 5 months with the sets being unused and the Predator suits being made by ADI as we speak.
EDIT:
This site is updated weekly, and they still have it listed to shoot next month:

The sooner the better.Tom Hardy has finished filming Dunkirk and it would be great to have him onboard too.
Is Hardy a possibility or just a wish?
Hardy is probably too expensive at this point.
Yea, they wouldn't wait 5 months for an actor when they have alternatives. I'd wait for Arnold but not for a new face in a Predator movie.
Arnold should stay far away from this
Come on, we've been through this. Arnold in a cameo role would be perfect. Just cameo or a minor role, but just something to acknowledge some form of continuity.
Arnold in a cameo would be awful. Put that man in a supporting role. None of this shows-up-at-the-end nonsense. Looking at you, AvP and Predators.

If they go with the minor role route, I was thinking something like SCS. The character "Onyx" is totally Dutch and I'd think it'd be cool if they went a similar route, have a mysterious figure who has some in depth knowledge of Predators without saying who he is directly, but we as fans know exactly who it is.

That face. XD
Somehow I feel Del Toro will be what Danny Trejo was to Predators: Unnecessary character filling to be killed offscreen in the first 20 minutes. Hell, i'll be even more surprised if we get Franco and 50 onboard!
"Fred Dekker has previously insinuated that the Predator would be a larger picture with many different characters from all over the world."
Soooo....Predators 2 then?
Because he's Hispanic? Pretty racist. "Benicio Del Toro in talks to star".

Um, no.

"Plot details are being kept hidden in mud but the new movie is said to be an ensemble piece anchored by the character to be played by Del Toro."
Sounds like a pretty important character to me. However, I'd rather they surprise me though so I don't want to think he'll be vital and that he'll make it through to the end because of that.
Well he has played drug lords and other criminal scum, so its possible he could play a King Willy type character, but with a much bigger role, since hes a "pivotal" character and all

But he's also played Military characters as well. So its all up in the air.
Watched Sicario yesterday, still not sure about him being the leading man for The Predator, but he was damn good as the experienced mercenary.

Del Toro has a huge screen presence, and that's perfect for a Predator movie.Arnold and Danny got that too.

Del Toro is hardly someone who's been typecast as only one thing. He's pretty versatile.
Case in point, my favourite Del Toro scene:

That'd be an interesting role to have as a pivotal one rather than just one scene.
Is this implying that the filming for The Predator will be this February in 2017 and not October 2016 as previously reported on?
We don't know yet unfortunately.
James Franco is a bad actor IMO ... annoying voice as well
Please keep him out of this
I like his brother.
Dave is hilarious. Loved him in Scrubs.

Don't worry, Franco is out of the game, he's signed on another movie making it impossible for him to star in The Predator.
I'm glad, to be honest.

There's gotta be a source someone can reach out to get us some news to enjoy
Well at least with movies such as 'The Hunted' and 'Sicario' he will be well prepared...

I'd completely forgotten about that movie. It's a really good one.

Bah!
Never heard of Boyd. I'm sure he'll do fine though. Disappointing about Del. Wonder what the story is there.
Scheduling, from the sounds of it.
Let's keep our fingers crossed that Boyd is replaced.
ALTHOUGH I will admit he is more preferable than yet ANOTHER "I'm not a leading man and I need this movie to prove I am" dude who won an Oscar long ago. Adrien Brody, Benicio Del Toro. This franchise was quickly becoming the go-to franchise for people who, although were good actors, were unproven as leading men for recent times(King Kong and Traffic were a long ways away from their Predator/hypothetical Predator entries.)
While Del Toro would have been awesome in this movie, no need to throw disrespect at Boyd. Let's see what he can do before judging him. Hope he knocks it out of the park.

I agree, with the right director an actor you don't like or don't think he's gonna fit, can be good.
