Good in-depth review of the PS5 4K playing performance to that of traditional standalone players.

Does PS5 do Dolby Atmos?
It does, both for streaming and blu-ray, but not for games.

But can it not do both?

PS5 Can yeah, But i found that on that Input i was using for my PS5, was calibrated more for HDR Content. So i have my other HDMI input using the Blu-ray player so i can configure and get the picture just right for SDR Content.

A 4K player should be able to play any generation older than 4K as well (except maybe 3D, but that requires a 3D TV anyway).
Not always. Depends on what it's specced for. Some done have lasers for CDs. Some don't have hardware or software, or even licensed for SACD or DVD Audio. As you said, some (most, I think) don't play 3D.
American players tend to stutter when playing PAL DVDs, but PAL ones are usually fine when playing NTSC.

Also, dedicated disc players are usually quieter than video game consoles, which is important for a home cinema experience. Quiet scenes get ruined by loud whirring or fan noise.

There's a lot that goes into it.

I'm eyeing this one: Sony UBP-X700.
I did end up getting that one, specifically this region-free version.
Does it play 3D discs? I've been looking at one on Amazon that says it's multi region and plays everything including 3D.
That's a really good question, I don't have a 3D TV so that wasn't a feature I was looking for.

The product details say one of its playback features is "Stereoscopic 3D (profile 5)", and "plays Ultra HD Blu-ray discs, 3D and standard Blu-ray discs, SACDs, DVDs, CDs and rewriteable discs", so it looks like it does.
Hmm. Might have to pick one up. Unfortunately, I've read reviews that they get sent from America, and while pal machines can run NTSC, the opposite tends not to be the case, so you get judder. Couple of German reviews on Amazon mentioned that. Will have to do more research first I think.

Did consider this but I'm not much a gamer these days.
My brother ended up getting a great deal on the Panasonic DP-UB820 and he says it's amazing. It's the one I've been eyeing off but right now all our funds are diverted to our major renovations to the house (also known as the money pit).

I know this might be bumping, and be very contradictorily. But on the off-chance if you're also into gaming. Why not buy a Gaming Console that can do 4K + Playv the Latest Games.

I primarily use my PS4 to play movies, since i love physical media (Well now PS5) To play 4K Movies. So i never felt the need to have a 4K Player.
