Thanks Moosh. :)
I doubt that Hudson had in mind that rifle when he said "sharp sticks".. but anyway.
Yeah, he definitely wasn't! :D Sonic electronic ball breakers - great idea, but in his speech he was slowly going down, getting to "knives," and then "sharp sticks."
Oh well. It's a pretty cool looking gun.
It looks like this is a PC exclusive item, I hope it also comes out for the console versions as well as I've already preordered the Collector's Edition from Gamestop.

Quite. He meant it as a joke. But then - this is Gearbox we're talking about after all....
It is indeed a cool looking gun - if somewhat unwieldy...

Yay!! It's a Gamestop Pre-Order Bonus, too!! Too bad it's only for PC, tho. :(
I think this weapon is just a reskin of the Stake gun from Painkiller which is totally off of the Alien universe imo.
I'm soooo waiting for reviews and discounts. Been disappointed far too many times.
The S.H.A.R.P. Rifle is absolutely f**king awesome! Thanks Gearbox, this will prove to make awesome canon! I want to see it in action.
The SHARP Rifle does look cool, but why is it only for PC? :(
I do like what gearbox has done with the marine equipment. I'm just not sure about the game as a whole...
The weapon and the other concept art look very good.

How so?
Frag this- give us an exclusive skin for the Xenos! This "S.H.A.R.P" rifle will no doubt suck, due to lag in-game, just like Mass Effect 3's Kishock Harpoon gun. :)
Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of them taking little mentions and expanding them like the Ball Breakers but I think this is going a little far if they're actually trying to imply this is what Hudson meant. That said, it does seem like a cool little rifle. Just not sure how well it fits in with the universe.
I think it's fairly obvious that "sharp sticks" was not intended to be slang for some form of high tech weaponry. They were already stretching it with the sonic electronic ball breakers. That worked out well, this new rifle not so much.
At least it sounds fun to use. :)
My balls are busting as I salivate over the impending canon heavy macho extravaganza!
"We got knives and sharp sticks" was not intended to be a reference to high tech weaponry, it was a show of bravado.
I hope James Cameron has remained at least proud enough of this film to punch Randy Pitchford in the face next time he mentions cannon and Aliens in the same sentence.
Gearbox you god damn morons!!!! How could you screw up such a simple idea so spectacularly?

Let the butthurt flow through you
"Dude, you know what this game could do with?"
"What?"
"Some Predators..."
"I know, I know! But... Look, I know it's tempting, but..."
"And one of those... Combistick things... Dude, those were awwwesome!"
"Is 'combistick' even a real word? Don't normal people just call those 'spears'?"
"Shut up! I want one! Let's... I know! We'll give the Marines one!"
"Well... Heh... I dunno', how would we get away with-"
"We'll make it look like a gun!"
"A gun which fires sticks?"
"Uhh... It'll be a big gun!"
"Could it look... Chunky? Like a brick. Chunky is futuristic."
"You couldn't even lift this thing up!"
"Yeah! Let's do it!"

Just not sure how well it fits in with the universe.
It doesn't. Its like to use a crossbow in a present day battle scenario. This gun will be either very op or totally useless. How some slow metal bolts firing weapon can be good in fight in close quarters is beyond me. And I can bet that GBX made it one shot kill weapon to compensate the slow rate of fire.
Good thing Hudson didn't mention rocks in his speech; Gearbox would probably take it to mean grenades. :D
I do like this rifle though. Might be fun in single player sniping bad WY guys, or whatever.
  What the hell? I've been pretty supportive so far, but this is just damn silly.
Did nobody read the blurb?
It's not just a spear gun,

It's like a torque bow, still pretty silly but c'mon we went there as soon as Hadley's hope survived.
If you pre order a Gearbox product you will only have yourself to blame. I have paid for 3 Gearbox games in my life and they all sucked and were a waste of money. >:(

Guys, since they are taking the Special Editions canon it seems, just take the Theatricals canon.

Personally I won't preoder shit, will buy only after seeing a decent enough review.
I will only buy this if it gets a good review. No pre order for me. ;)
I placed my preorder upon playing a couple of rounds of MP at Eurogamer Expo back in September. I personally loved the game from the 20 minutes play time I had with it. Run and gun doesn't work to well in this game, team work is key and for the most part the game seemed balanced with very little hitches.

I think it's pretty obvious he genuinely meant sticks but I like the rifle. Design looks really cool.

Because it was slang, just like Electronic Ball Breakers, but GBX are taking everything seriously.
Btw you don't know for sure if the Jockey is a suit since Prom is not in the canon.
Anyway just like Hicks, I like the design but I just don't like how they connected it to the movie referenced as "SHARP Sticks".

I understand what your getting at though. I always thought he meant a weapon like a throwing knife or something. The design I think is bad ass and maybe they should have applied there weapons design ambitions to the aliens design instead.

Exactly ;)
While I recognize that Hudsons remarks arent much more than bravado. Its not unusual for soldiers to have their own nicknames for some of the equipment they use. I think Gearbox was expanding on the idea, by bringing the 2 together.
The "Sharp sticks" in Hudsons context was meant as more of a melee weapon, I make this assumption based on its pairing with knives. Its probably some sort of cattle prod in a literal sense. Atleast that is what I always assumed.
Gearbox seems to have designated it as a type of ammunition. Which makes more sense than it just being a gun, gun type etc. SHARP (Gun) Sticks (Ammunition, that sticks in things).
Should be fun for setting up traps.

Funny because I was about to post a derogatory comment about Mohawk haircut in military video games and how much I hate it and how awful it looks, especially that no one in Aliens had any extravagant haircut.

Hudson mentions knives before he mentions sharp sticks, it was him being cocky rather than referencing an actual weapon imo
Agree on the design, surely they could have put it in the game without the need for such a tie-in?! still, looks fun to shoot already!
I've deleted all posts about Prometheus vs Canon. There's a topic, let's keep on it. Go to the Prometheus board to argue about that.

Hopefully it's like the javelin gun from Dead Space 2. Nail a xeno to a wall and shock his ass.
That was one thing I liked about AvP99. The speargun would nail the Xenomorph bodies to the walls.
Just pre-ordered the standard edition from Gamestop (with bonuses). I was informed by the employee there that they were sold out of Collector's Editions already and no longer offering it. I don't know if this applies to all stores in the USA or just the one I went to but anyone is interested in that, they shouldn't wait too much longer to try to pick it up. Fyi

You could probably preorder it off ebay; there are usually some people who offer theirs up early.
