I see they got the new "Discover Prometheus" stuff on time. That ceiling mural is interesting, but I'm just so glad to finally have a high-res version of this gorgeous still:

That top image. "Changing into what?"
Could it be a sort of morphing metal mural?
This calls to mind the humanoid jockey but visually takes cues from the cocoon/egg morph aspect of Alien.
I smell new signatures being fresh brewed in photoshop.
And for those of you that are interested ... I'm going to be hard at work on some limited edition jockey space ship toilet seat covers. If the ship does turn out to be a bomber, all the easier to market this puppy. Place your orders now.
That mural depicts what looks like the Engineer with some sort of creature next to him--looks like a Space Bison...

Oh lord.
More interesting part is the tear in him appears to be in the place where the tear is in out old friend from the first movie. Just extended some more.
*edit after blowing it up and looking really close, yes it seems to be morphing. Thankfully. Still very neat. I wonder if these will mirror the facebook shit to be added. I was hoping for the monster image that the screening saw.

Nice to see the little parasite inside Holloway's eye. Looks like a tiny tiny toon ACM alien warrior to me xD. I'm sure they will make them that size in the next aliens game seeing how much Fox and game developers are going down that road of the casual crap.
The Giger's alien molting into a humanoid (the mural above Shaw) should also be impressive If you watch this movie on 3d.

Changing into what.
Very interesting. Still not sure what that 'creature' is or what exactly the mural is depicting. Is the Engineer guy putting on his "suit"? Merging with it's creation or just petting his favorite animal? ;D
Edit: I think it looks like a "mantis-man" squating down.

Well, it appears to be Carlos Huante work. The style for the monster is right up his alley.
Im assuming the pic where the Prometheus is flaying away is Earth?
Looks like the Engineer sitting on a throne with some kind of intergalatic hell beast next to him...

You can see the xenomorph-esque rib cages on the side of the creature.
As I said, looks as if the Engineer is sitting on a throne.
The mural of the "God" and his "Beast"... I knew I'd seen something similar before, and didn't understand it (still don't) but we've all seen it before in the cave painting found on Skye:
(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2F3.bp.blogspot.com%2F-1R-qTqQHBj4%2FT2Ur46Ybw1I%2FAAAAAAAAAkc%2FOfIDW9Ykjpk%2Fs1600%2Fprometheus_full_trailer_00017.jpg&hash=841ca36906a1d56d60ce65de4796f240a27b8fdb)
Just to the left of the tall guy is a strange animal in a similar stance with the same rib cage - i'm sure there's a clearer pic somewhere.
It`s our beloved space tapir.
Image 1... What... the... fark!?
OK, now onto the pic of Prometheus taking off - take a look at the full rez image.
In the background (top left) are a series of what looks like landing pads (similar to Nazca Lines) fanning out from a central point, and below the right thrusters is a hint of something slightly curved, that definitely doesn't look like part of the landscape... is Prometheus just above the SJ ship in flight?
(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.heyuguys.co.uk%2Fimages%2F2012%2F04%2FPrometheus-41.jpg&hash=833f414ec0dcfbf5bd32e4814b9a5c87d8599dda)

I think that the curved bit you mention is the top of the first temple, and the lines in this shot are also visible on the ground in one of the trailers as leading up to the temples (sorry I can't remember which trailer it is - perhpas the IMAX one?).

i wouldn't feel that confident if the jockey's had some pet with them... :-\
like the teddy in A.I. or any other pets of main actors in mainstream movies (lilo & stitch, etc. pp).
i am only that concerned, because i am afraid, that you might be right.
Great set of pics. The top one is the most interesting. First there was egg morphing now there's...mural morphing? Whatever the hell it is, it's intriguing to say the least.
Pure speculation of course:
The "beast" is the true form of the Space Jokey. They morphed into the humanoid form when they encountered the humans so that the humans would accept them as their gods.
The head looks like it would fit properly into the Space Jokey suit.

I think it's more complex than Ridley trying to cram stuff into Prometheus that 'wouldn't fit/ FX-wise wasn't attainable/ made no Goddamn-sense' from Alien.

It would be cool if the jockeys changed how they looked for us... And maybe we don't see fully what they really are. That's some Lovecraft stuff right there.

That's... some pretty sick shit for sure but no, that wasn't what I was thinking...
The pose of the engineer suggests to me that he is...
bestowing... something onto the creature, or something... Maybe someone can dust up similar murals from ancient Earth civilizations and connect the dots or suggest a possible interpretation.
But I
am thinking about a theory I proposed long time ago - that the horrific reality that the humans will have to deal with in Prometheus, is that humans are nothing but 'means to an end' for the engineers and that is why we exist in the shape we do to start with.
We might never have been intended to develop as a civilization in our own right, but were merely 'designed' to fulfill a stage in the lifecycles of the engineers or whatever use they could have with us.
The deep irony could be that it's our very visit to this far away planet that alerts the engineer about our advanced (and potentially threatning) civilization and that's what triggers him to take off in his ship, heading for Earth to do some serious nasty shit to all of humanity.
But I'm probably thinking way too far here.... :D
I don't think Giger had much to do with this one. The style is all wrong. Like it looks like Carlos Haunte's character design[esp the monster thing. It lacks the sexuality all of Gigers stuff has]. The background when blown up look Giger, but the central character have little in common with his art style unless he changed it just for the mural.
No...nothing LIKE Giger.

The mural, to me, harks back to the idea of the SJ sending Xenos in to "clean up" a planet prior to terraforming, so I'm guessing that the creature is the precursor to the more well-known form. Getting more and more excited here...

That's the form I see as well. Nice outline.
I'd almost bet money that these aren't Giger. The style is loosely inspired by him, but it doesn't feel like his work.

I think that that hole in his chest is just the body image being finalized. Seems like the same scene in the trailers where the ceiling is moving and forming something. I think it was forming this guy and the shot we have is still in motion.
Thanks for the outlines! They really help make the mural pop.
The two beings are obviously interacting. One is dominant and the other is submissive.
This movie isn't about blood and guts or dirty language. It has trademark undertones of violent and sexual imagery combined.
Harkens back to mystery within the ALIEN universe... More questions than answers :)
Excellent pictures, especially the first. I'm loving that, with each bit of information, the movie is becoming even more mysterious. June, please hurry up. I need to find out what all of this stuff means!

OK, now onto the pic of Prometheus taking off - take a look at the full rez image.
In the background (top left) are a series of what looks like landing pads (similar to Nazca Lines) fanning out from a central point, and below the right thrusters is a hint of something slightly curved, that definitely doesn't look like part of the landscape... is Prometheus just above the SJ ship in flight?
(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.heyuguys.co.uk%2Fimages%2F2012%2F04%2FPrometheus-41.jpg&hash=833f414ec0dcfbf5bd32e4814b9a5c87d8599dda)
Great pic though ;D
There is something beneath the Prometheus indeed.
And if that planet is the planet of the jockeys then there are much lights on and looks like a very active planet to me
At least four or five temples are shown in the trailer. I will not venture to guess what happens but maybe one spacey jockey ship will get wrecked and another will make it far enough to crash on LV-426.
Or maybe... :D maybe there is only one derelict ship in the movie. It survives the initial tumble and keeps on flying. Time will tell. The clock is ticking ;)

Can't say it's fact that he didn't for this, but it's probable he didn't.
Do you think the morphing image is connected directly to the giant head in some way... it looks like the wall is illuminated which could be from one of their flashlights or it could it be a projection from the head... it does look to be the same room.

Spoken to a professional film designer friend of mine about this. He noted some interesting things.
1: That segmented glass dome on the underside has a lot of similarity with the observation pod Ash is shown in, when he's monitoring the Nostromo crew's journey to the derelict. Could mean we shall have a scene like that. The antenna are also very reminiscent of the Nostromo, too.
2: Those four engines are remarkably like the Sulaco's rear section! Looks like they've miniaturised four modified Sulaco engines and strapped them together on limb sections. External mounting has its advantages, apparently, due to the vacuum of space meaning waste heat won't need to be dealt with, allowing them to be kept running at a relatively cool temperature. Was unsure, however, why
this particular limb configuration was used.
3: Was noted that the image of the cockpit's interior from earlier publicity shot, seems to indicate a lot of '
Space 1999' design influence for the consoles.
So, looks like this ship has at least two direct inspirations from the first two films.

In all seriousness, if anyone wants to imagine how Giger might design 'normal' vehicles, search around for his Batmobile design. None of the skeletal stuff of his '

from what i saw from him in interviews, he's a good guy, eloquent & you hear that he wears his heart on his tongue.
so when you know him and talked to him, i believe you. IF he didn't screw you. ;D

as somebody who lives in germany i am on team giger, nevertheless he became a bit eccentric.
i guess what he had in mind weren't that mainstream compatible but much more expensive(?).
Both Arthur Max and old man Giger are exceptionally gifted in their respective fields.
I'm just happy that they were both on board Prometheus - I really didn't expect Giger do have any involvement with this project to start with...
So Engineer1 is NGR01 after all....
and how would Sylvain Despretz know this information?

Yep the man himself.
He's great to listen to.
He doesnt sugar coat the truth.
He can also be very hard with aspiring artist kinda killing their dreams and face them with the facts.
Wich is cool but can be very destructive to fragile persona.
No he's has not worked on Prometheus sadly.
He recelntly retired from storyboarding, his goal is to direct (recently he finished a scifi short with rond cobb vehicule designs), what he realized is that if he continued storyboarding he would/was not taken seriously as a potential director (crazy huh but that is the truth when you are in a box it's very hard to get out of it).
So he retired. I hope that one day he will publish a massive book of some sort but sadly he doesnt seem very interested...
How does he knows?
Well maybe because he's been one of the closest collaborator to Scott for decades now and that he still have extensive contacts with his friends and old collegues at Scott Free (or london movie microcosm).
Thanks Valaquen.

I like how her hair looks a little more let down there.
I don't care what anyone says. I think the Prometheus has a fantastic mix of the Nostromo lineage in the design with some 21st century sensibilities. (The holograms, flatscreen displays, and such. Something Ridley wanted to do in Alien but couldn't due to technical limitations.)
Why is it blue and then greenish yellow?
Blue from the holo table then green in the corridors.
Can't wait to seen Ben Procter designs in 3d renderings.

Had a go at enhancing the mural myself, definately looking to be something amazing.
Thing is the creature on the left of the Jockey/God seems totally amorph and shapeless... can't make out anything.
But remember what Ridley wanted in the first alien film?
He wanted a creature that could transform itself to a harmless object and suddently turn into a beast... maybe we'll get that with the new creature design... the shapelessnes has got something threatning to it!

It doesn't look shapeless to me. I can see a creature curled into the fetal position, hugging its knees to its chest. It's not clear at first glance, but someone outlined these features in a different post.

I know, for a vehicle that's going a long way from home it's terribly complicated. You can posit more reliable technology in the future, but - we're a long way in time from when we started building moving parts, and they still break. I'd guess they'll be breaking 70 years from now. That ship's going to have a big problem if a rough landing jams an engine in place.

Murals by Giger - great. Referencing 'Aliens' - not so great. Hopefully, this is part of the viral Weyland backdrop and nothing more. Gun design I don't much care about as I never took much notice of them in 1986 so wouldn't know the difference, but that JCB on legs I'd really rather not see again.

I'd be very surprised if he was Kol. There's virtually no detail in that shot, of course, but just from what is there the weapon seems to be far closer to say, the compression rifle from Star Trek First Contact.

It's probably either a sample collector, an air tester, or a flare.

We'd like to see Giger's aesthetics in the sets, is all. From what I know, it seems that someone in the film's production has been deliberately rubbing away at the man's fingerprint on the film. It won't influence the quality of the movie, but it leaves a taste in the mouth...
Didn't Scott say he wanted more mechanical then biomechanical? If that's the case, the designs keep Giger's feel but it's less organic. I have no problem with the sets.

Scott aid they went for a mechanical look, he didn't mention any specifics of who asked for what, and what was preferential and why. If there's a quote, please provide it because ... I'm lazy ;) My complaint still stands either way, I always found the biomechanical ribbing far more interesting that these mechanical plates. Kudos for building it, but it's not really all that grim or great to look at. For me.
i liked giger more, ftw!! gutalin is okay though...
btw, i found some interesting picture on tumblt, as a person who has seen the movie is being interviewed via chat, he said some interesting things, MAJOR SPOILERS (i won't post them lol guuurls, mad? stay mad <3<3). so major, that it seems it can't be fake, but he confirms some discussions and theories here, but isn't a fanboy oder fanguuuurl so he didn't pay attention that much to score and other details some of yoü might kill for....

This is going to sound silly so flame away people but the set looks very PG13'ish, no shiny bones and no skeletol look. I know people have said Scott wanted a different look but why?, it doesn't even make sense really, why would 2 identicle ships have different looking walls etc.

I remember reading quotes that they used models to make the space jockey chair and room etc, i really hope it wasn't a mistake on their part that they forgot how the derelict looked in ALIEN and all this 'i wanted a different look' quotes are covering their mistakes, they wouldn't be that stupid would they?.

I remember when we first saw pics and footage of Prometheus, i thought maybe the ship could change look for some reason, a bit like the way the walls in Cerebrum change in X-Men 2 if you know what i mean.
So people want to see exactly what they saw in Alien. Gotcha ;)

Yep, it doesn't make real sense for it to look different, i know its a different ship but its the same model so to speak, what reason would the space jockeys have of changing the look of each ship?.
That gets back to my earlier theory that ultimately, people want to see Alien all over again. Can we not let Ridley make his own creative choices without chaining him to what he did before?

Even if it doesn't really make sense?, nothing wrong with making the film he wants to make but stuff like set design etc should follow what has come before if they are involving something that has been in the previous films.

Except you wont even notice the (marginally) different textures on the walls when you watch the movie. No one was complaining based on the images of the whole jockey room previously, even though they are vastly different in shape and texture, the lack of the 4 cryotubes (we assume) in the original Alien, and all the other details that are different.
This isn't Alien, and it isn't the same ship. Why should it be the same?
Look at the derelict designs this way - the new ship is to original in Alien, as a ford cortina is to a ford capri. Same designer, different model. :)
not post or post?? the story??
Exactly zoidy!
No one is crying about the cryo tubes being present. If we're gonna talk about this reasonably then reason says that different ships will look different despite similar architecture. That's like some alien species discovering earth, walking into a home with wood floors, and then another home with slate floors and one of them says "why doesn't this house look exactly like the last one? From outside they seemed very similar?"
It's a non-sequitur argument.

They want to see Giger's work wholly intact. I don't want to see Gutalin or Arthur Max's interpretation, personally. There's also some behind-the-scenes shenanigans that taint my opinion of it.

We know it's a different ship. The cryotubes, if that's what they are, are likewise inspired by a Giger painting (the sarcophagus from The Tourist). People are concerned about the ship's aesthetics, and they're allowed to be, without being called pissy kids. It has more to do with production issues than the lack of an in-universe explanation.
Without Giger, the Alien universe would not exist. Period. Without Giger, the derelict class ship would not look the way it looks in Prometheus. Giger's aesthetic is infused all over. I'm sorry if I don't have sympathy. We have a complete series of films based off Gigers alien, so not seeing perfectly realized Giger authentic sets don't concern me. He's there....he's obvious.

I didn't say they were successful in removing Giger from the aesthetic; how could they? The concern arises when you get officially sanctioned articles crediting Max with creating the derelict and temple, it's ridiculous. Besides, nobody asked you to sympathise, simple as that. But please refrain from insulting other members - I don't ask much.

Not really, same model planes have the same interior, same model cars, same model buses etc. I get the sense that some people agree with some of the problems with the film but won't admit it and instead attack others and make out they are dumb for caring, well sorry but i do care.

They seemingly twisted over the original idea for the Space Jockey and gave it a completely new identity and they seemingly want to go ass-backwards regarding series themes.
At that point, changing the looks of a wall is something relatively minor. I agree, I would have preferred a more Giger aesthetic by a long shot -- but if they changed what they changed, what can you expect?
