I suppose, the main difference is time passed since "the end", it hasn't been very long in the walking dead but in I am legend it's bern ages, and it's been even longer judging by the voice over in the trailer for this.

There's a differance between having a dedicated game devoted to them (Left 4 Dead, Dead Island, etc) and a tacked on Zombie mode (CoD and the others)
Besides, A.) Naight Dog is making it and it looks great.

As long as the Zombie games get better (controls, characters, graphics, tone) and don't tread water, I don't see any harm.
What if a certain film maker decided that making 'another B-movie space monster on the loose' picture wasn't an innovative enough idea? That he didn't have enough fresh ideas and talent to make his film a cut above the rest? None of us would be here.
This looks worth keeping our eyes on. Raptor mushroom zombies vs Juno her Dad in 'Life After People' feels like a promising pitch.

the problem is that for villains you have very few choices,
normal humans, enhanced humans (vampires etc), zombies/zombie-like-monsters, animals, enhanced animals, zombified/monsterfied animals, aliens.
that's really about it, and I'd be willing to guess 4/7 of those options will be in this game. and at least the zombies are original looking.
you don't see people saying "oh no, not more soldiers in a game, booooring"

exceptional memory since I can remember various things from when I was 3.
6 is about right to remember "normal things" i believe, particularly memorable things can be remembered from an earlier age, i would be surprised if you could remember anything mundane from when you are 3, also the existence of photographs and other aide memoirs can keep and often augment memories for longer, (ie you can only vaguely remember it, but you see a photograph and the information from the photograph is used by your brain to fill ion blanks)

She is born after the Apocolypse,she mentions how it must of been nice for people to walk around the city going about their daily business,not to mention the city is so overgrown.

Hm. That's almost word-by-word what Quantic Dream said about Heavy Rain. Maybe it's just me, but that statement sort of puts me off this game. I mostly play games for gameplay and interactivity, rather than storyline and setpieces.
Another nitpick I have is the lead. Sure, we've hardly seen or learned anything in regards to him, but just by looks I would've preferred a more 'average-Joe'-sorta protag, like Adrien Brody, than a badass, grizzled killing machine.

why do you assume we won't get uncharted 4 in 2013? this is due out late 2012, U3 came out late 2011, why can't U4 come out late 2013?
Theyve never released 3 high profile games in 3 years before thats all. They've obviously been developing this at the same time as the latter half of development of Uncharted 3 and now they'd have to start Uncharted 4 while doing this.
Since as early as 2004/2005 until now theyve developed 3 games (Uncharted). Granted the first game probably took the longest because it was new tech and it was a completely new IP and obviously with the sequels they already had the groundwork.
I just don't think Naughty Dog would start churning out games every year. Unless they've decided to bring in alot more people since the success of Uncharted they could yes, but I get the impression theyre a studio that seems to try and focus on one thing at a time.
If im wrong, sweet then we get more Uncharted, but if we dont im ok with that too.
I'd be fine with them saving Uncharted 4 for the launch of PS4. It'd make commercial sense too.
Definately. They could concentrate on The Last Of Us until its released and then focus on an PS4 Uncharted. By then in 2013 surely games for the next generation will be starting to get developed for a 2014/15 release?

according to this report, the Last of Us Team are completely separate from the Uncharted Team, and have been for 2 years, meaning The Last of Us development and Uncharted 3 development did not interfere with each other, so there's nothing stopping the same from continuing to be true for Uncharted 4. even though I think 4 games in one story centric series on a single platform is a bit excessive, the story will end up spread too thinly, I would prefer them to spend more time on the next game and hopefully it will be a release title for the PS4

Okay, I think this just sold it to me. I'm pretty sure I'll be getting this game now. The environmnet and setting look amazing, and if they can captivate the right atmosphere and mood, as well as craft good and believable characters, then this game can be truly brilliant.
I like that this isn't another generic zombie shooter like L4D or Dead Island. If anyone can tweak the zombie formula it's Naughty Dog.

-The second team came about due to constant requests from both internal and external studios to license their engine. However, the engine doesn't have a toolchain or documentatin set to facilitate that, so the only way to leverage their technology on a second game was to create a second team. The other reason was that they didn't want to lose their staff to other companies because of career ceilings or burnout from working on too many Uncharted games, so creating a second team let them promote a lot more people and let them work on something new. As such, the second team was created. Unlike many other multi team developers, Naughty Dog's teams are actually completely separate, so staff doesn't move between the two projects.
-The look of the game was inspired by "Ruin Porn", which is a branch of photography where people take pictures of ruins that have been overgrown by nature.
-Gustavo Santaolalla is composing. He worked on Brokeback Mountain and Babel.
-The second team was originally considering making a Jak & Daxter sequel along with some other unnamed ideas. The Jak & Daxter idea was explored quite extensively, and Game Informer will have more about it on their website. However, they felt the direction they wanted to go as a company would end up making a poor Jak game, so they ultimately shelved the project. -The game is built around the idea of expanding the Drake/Tenzin relationship into a full game concept.
-The game's plot setup: Spoiler
Ellie is a 14 year old orphan who lives at a bording house in a military quarantine zone and is fascinating with relics of how the world used to be (like CDs and books), and constantly gets herself in trouble. Joel is in his late 40's and smuggles guns and drugs to and from the quarantine zone. The issue with this is that the zone is guarded by military checkpoints, and if you're found to have any signs of the fungus during one of their frequent body scan, you're executed immediately. The fungus also transfers by air, but it needs a high concentration of spores in a confined space to do so, which is why you don't see everyone wearing masks. The game starts with Joel agreeing to smuggle Ellie out of the safe zone for some unknown reason, but things go wrong and the military starts chasing him. He was going to abandon Ellie, but a dying friend asked him to escort her to safety, so he does. They try hiding, it fails, and thus start fleeing West across the entire country. Their relationship is supposed to be like the ones you see in True Grit or Road to Perdition.

"Joel elbows his attacker and turns the tables. He slams the man down on the glass shard and he comes up sputtering with blood pouring out of his throat."
-Everyone swears constantly during combat, especially Ellie. Expect to hear "motherf**kers", "f**k", "f**k face", and other such terms as often as you do in Battlefield 3, or perhaps even more.
-The game's plot is self contained, so were this game to bomb and the franchise die, you won't have to worry about a cliff hanger ending. They didn't directly rule out sequels though, but just said that they think about one game at a time. However, earlier in the article, they refer to this as a "new IP that we're definitelyl going to be supporting".
-The AI and game dynamic is explained a bit more. They want it to be like No Country For Old Men, so a single bullet will kill, but you have very few bullets to give it a "realistic" feel to the setting. The AI also uses a "balance of power" system, where they will stay in cover and try to flank you if you have a gun, but if they see you only have a melee weapon, they will rush you and try to overwhelm you with numbers. They also react based on other events that are happening. They get angry when their friends die, they warn each other when in danger, and they get frightened when they've lost the upper hand. Also, during combat you can do things like hitting people with a heavy object such as a thrown brick, which will stun them for a bit and let you get some melee hits in with something like a wood plank. This can also happen between the two characters, with Ellie throwing the brick to let Joel move in with the plank.
-The game has health packs and it takes time to use them, so the added lethality of your weapons goes both ways. This is to encourage you to avoid direction confrontation as much as possible.
-They're focusing on Ellie's AI a lot because they want her to be part of the combat. She gives you warnings and helps you out of jams, and her combat capabilities grow over time, though they didn't say how. Game Informer points out she has a gun on the cover. They're trying to make it so she doesn't become an escort question like burden though, as they feel no one would enjoy that.
-Third described scenario: Spoiler
After defeating their attackers, they find their resource stash behind a garage door. Ellie asks Joel how he knew this would be a trap, and Joel mentions that he's been on both sides of this ruse before (as in, he's jumped and killed people for resources himself with this trick). Ellie asks if he's killed a lot of innocent people, and Joel tries to dodge the question. Ellie says she'll take that as a yes, and he says to take that however she wants. Joel and Ellie then start walking toward a nearby bridge, which is the entry to a quarantine zone. They see tons of cars filled with bullet holes and dead bodies inside them. Ellie asks if it was more scavengers, but Joel says it was most likely the military, because they knew they couldn't let everyone inside the quarantine zone, and by killing all these people, they would have less infected to deal with.
-There will be platforming and puzzle solving in the final game. These were not seen in the demo, but will involve the dynamic of having two characters. However, these events will be grounded in reality, so you won't get wild jumping actions like Nathan Drake does.
-You will be facing humans more frequently than infected, as humans are the focus of the game. That's why none of the infected were shown in the demo.
-The game will also have (location-type and NPC-type spoilers) Spoiler
suburbs and rural areas. Also, not all humans you find will be hostile. Some will actually help you.
-They rest of the screenshots are very similar to things we've already seen, so I won't bother describing them. Just imagine the events described above in the same art style as the screenshots.
I want a Sully cameo. Every ND game needs a little Sully.
Sully would be pretty ancient given how long this is set after the fall of society.
Sounds somewhat Condemned 2-ish with combat, but Resistance 3-ish with the world state and intra-human relations.

Apparently you will be against mostly humans, so the infected will probably be dealt with in a similar way to the ferals in uncharted 1

It's looking really, really good.
The gameplay demo of this game is reason alone to make me buy the PS3 for once... the damn list of games I am going to have to buy once I finally own a PS3 is getting long.
Yes, as former 360 owner I am kinda ashamed of MS. Correct me if I am wrong but what are the good exclusives for the last 2 years which MS are providing us? Except Gears and Halo? Its all about the Kinect shit. But look at the PS3 scene - holy shit, so much and so good games are on the way. First The last of Us which blown my mind with this new gameplay trailer, and then Beyond. I still have to play for the first time so many PS3 exclusives, and all of them are great. I really like the direction that Sony are going. MS are just failing for me tbh. I don't know whats happening with them but its not good.
Microsoft seems to be doing ok, but if they keep up with all this Kinect bullshit and the whole "glass" business, then I have no idea what they will plan to do, hopefully they get more exclusive titles that aren't Kinect next year.
This and Watch Dogs were the best things at E3 this year.
What I love most about the gameplay trailer was that you throw the first punch when fighting the other survivers. It's really interesting to see that, especially since you're killing people that are begging for their lives, who are exactly the same situation as you. I love that shade of grey.
The combat looks intense too. Like when the first guy gets choked out he doesn't look angry, he looks scared.
Naughty Dog always delivers. My mind was blown away. GOTY confirmed. Everyone go home.
It feels so real and natural it's not even funny.

The cool thing is that it's not pointless violence just for the sake of it. This is survival of the fittest in a world gone to hell in which you can't trust anyone. And that's great.
BTW, this isn't coming out until next year.

Actually the player's choice is disturbing (for you at least). I am pretty sure he was able to choose to shoot or not. If I was playing this would be my choice as well, but I am curious what will happen if we let the guy live? Maybe the girl will kill him anyway since in the latest interview the dev said this faction called "The Hunters" are no prisoners type of faction. So even if we leave this guy alive maybe he will try to attack us again.

Not really. Try the Mass Effect series and consider the voice actors involved. In a reality in which money spent hiring voice actors affected the quality of the game (this would be money over ingenuity), Mass Effect 3's awful ending is the result of it's incredible cast. :laugh:

Yeh, definitely expecting a Crysis-ish approach to the map design in some parts. Not open-world but featuring big open levels.

Oh I do and being a on a budget dont help so I have to pick which game is a must buy on opening day then wait for the rest to go down in cost before buying. Then the time to play all them just runs into haveing a life, working, and school.
I haven't even gotten around to Arkham City yet. I'd like to pick up Borderlands 2 but I'm not sure there's time for a game that massive.

yeah, especially late Q3 early Q4, unfortunately I haven't had much time for gaming this year and all the gaming have done is on the Vita, except a little bit of Crysis on PS3 and some little games on PC, i still haven't finished Deus Ex HR!!
I'm ordering Borderlands 2 and this but that'll be it probably until Colonial Marines, but I've been trying to shut my ears to gaming recently, since we're coming to the end of a generation, every game looks awesome because developers know what they are doing!
Except Rage...id sure as hell didn't know what they were doing when they released the PC version.
I wasn't really taking about PC games, since no developer can get to know every consumers kit like console developers can.

Yes It was released for Crysis 2 after release because it was a ported to PC from console,first thing you notice on PC version when you fire up the main menu is Press start to continue lol.
Consoles use a small portion of DirectX11 and PS3 is a form of OpenGL.Next gen Consoles will run DX11,so they say.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Q1 actually, Q3 or 4 seems too long to wait, considering it was announced about the time of U3's release date, and Uncharted games were coming out every 2 years, I'd be surprised if it came out a full 2 years after being announced.
If it's released for Q1 then that probably is due to the announcement of the PS4 at E3. The fact that all the big exclusives are being released in Spring and that the next Call of Duty will supposedly be a next-gen title points out that the PS4 and the Xbox 720 are probably going to be released next Fall.
CoD will be next-gen but still look like previous-gen.

Hey! Last of Us comes out on my bday. I know what I'm getting myself.
After years of trying to get a PS3 my sister finally decides to help me out with the money just because of the trailer for this game last night. I would like to thank the Walking Dead comic and TV show for this.

This has a MP component they haven't shown yet though.
There are many sp games which 20-30hour long and are pretty straight forward, they are not an open world games. Whats the problem with Last of Us being one of those games ?

Definitely, already planning out every game I have wanted to play since 2006, but couldn't, so I'll be sure to have those games in my hands.
Sure theres plenty of exclusives you could play but doing so could take a loooong time. Considering how many FPS there are out there you could give Resistance and Killzone a miss unless you really, really wanted to play them (Killzone 2 in particular is fantastic).
But yeah definately pick up Heavy Rain and Uncharted Trilogy as soon as you get the chance.
Cant wait for this game though. Seeing how much Uncharted improved down the years of the PS3 Im so excited to play this game. Naughty Dog may have a GOTY on their cards and its been a very strong year already with the likes of Tomb Raider and Bioshock: Infinite.

Yep, it's been on the list since it was announced.
Ive been intending to get an Xbox 360 for years but never did. Dont think ill bother now. The only games (exclusives) im interested in giving a whirl are Gears Of War and Alan Wake. Dont think there's anything else caught my eye. Before you say it, no Im not arsed about Halo. Played 1 and 2 on the Xbox and didnt like them at all. I know im in the minority there but i just didnt get the hype at all and ive never been fussed that ive missed all the sequels.

Eh? You can get that on all consoles its not an exclusive. Plus its absolutely shit anyway. Worst game ive paid full price for in years and years if im honest.

The online is so unoptimized it's crazy.
Its not a case of "Haters Gonna Hate" with that game because it genuinely is a piss poor excuse for a full price, supposed AAA title.
Its more a case of "Fanboys Gonna Be Blind" because they can't accept that its utter toilet.

I'm far from blind, I can see it for what it is but yet I enjoy every minute of it. I had no expectations of the game to begin with, all the glitches and programming mistakes are laughable and I've had many good laughs over them. Combine that with the themes and getting play as an Alien, this is a game I will enjoy playing for sometime.
Thats fine. You recognize its not a good game but you still enjoy it. But when you said youd defend it you made it sound like youd defend the game when people call it out as being poor. In reality your defending your own enjoyment of the game. Fair enough.
Now how long till the demo of this game is released with the copies of GOW: Ascension dammit.

I was really hoping it was Ellen Paige doing the voice of the girl, I'm not a fan of anything but with this and Beyond Two Souls coming out back to back it would of been nice.
Cant wait for that either. Beyond Two Souls looks amazing. Still churning out superb new exclusives right to its death the PS3. all the 360 seems to have done with exclusives in recent years is sequels or prequels to existing games.

You can run through the sewers without a care in the world, and the rest of the fights are OPEN area meaning you can just backway hit a wall run to side and do this infinitely and as for vsing the Raven as long as your mate doesn't shoot you in ultimate bad-joke mode it's pretty f**king easy once you get the controls and range of attacks.

Somebody broke the review embargo and posted one yesterday. Its been take down since but some of the comments were along the lines of "this could be the greatest game of this gen" and "its gamings Citizen Kane".
High praise indeed but from day one of hearing about the games premise and after seeing what they did with the Uncharted series, Ive been expecting nothing short of incredible since.

Played the demo earlier on and loved it! Incredible environments that a a joy to take in. They really nailed the atmosphere in this game, tense and deathly quiet. Not too long either, just a quick dip of the toes. Really looking forward to this and if that review is anything to go buy then it's going to be one to remember.

Whats so special about the MP? I don't see why the medias are saying its something new, innovative etc. Its just TDM of some sort. Nothing new really. I am not saying its bad but I don't understand why everybody says its special because its not.

I finished my first playthrough a few days ago. I don't think it's as good as the 10/10 reviews made it out to be but still fun. I think Ellie's a great supporting character. The game ends way too quickly though. I kinda just wanted to keep playing to see what happens next.

To be contrary to your opinion, I have never been so blown away by a game. The atmosphere, the story, and the characters were just so good. This was like a movie, except it needed 18 hours to be told and for the viewer to really feel the impact so they made a game. The combat is fast, fluid, and fun, but all the while you feel weak and vulnerable. Violence and death's portrayal is so painful it really makes every encounter meaningful. I can actually say I got attached to not only Joel, but Ellie as well, who really stole the show. Joel was such a d-bag until the end but I still found myself rooting for him and hoping he would take in Ellie. Ellie's chapter as well was amazing, the vulnerability of it all and yet she was still strong. The ending as well, so happy yet utterly depressing. Best game I have played in a very long time, and I'm already trying a second run on survivor.
I also must praise the fact that this game is actually hard and doesn't hold your hand. When you screw up, it follows you for a very long time. It deserves all the 10s it received, and it deserves GOTY. This game makes me happy I didn't ditch my PS3 so long ago.

This game is one of the best things ever made by humans.
Trying my hardest to wait a couple weeks to finish my MGS marathon but I reckon i'll give in when I finish MGS3 tonight.
Peace Walker, MGS4 and MGR:R will have to wait a bit.
Gonna try a few ghetto ways of fixing my PS3 JUST FOR THIS GAME! Good lord, just, mind blowing reviews. I thought it was gonna be a pretty great game, but to be called one of the greatest games of all time, never crossed my mind.
I have been playing this the last couple days... I simply do not see eye to eye with the 10/10 reviews. In fact, aside from the awesome characters and decent story, the game is a bit of a chore to play through. I like the cut scenes and how the story progresses, but everything is so scripted and the combat feels extremely clunky. Maybe its just not for me. I wasn't a big fan of the Uncharted series either.
But hey, it starts out in Austin - which is where I live, so that was pretty sweet to see. :)
The (mostly) linear, story driven single player format isnt for everyone. Myself I love them. Uncharted (especially the sequels) absolutely blew me away and gave me the same kind of excitement I got as a child watching Indiana Jones for the first time, or the first time I played Tomb Raider II at a friends house and immediately went out and bought both games (TRIII wasnt out yet).
I'm not an online gamer, I'm definately a solitary gamer who much prefers to play alone in my own time so its nice to see a few single player, story driven games do well this year. Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider and now this have all sold well and have recieved good press from critics and ordinary gamers alike. Single player aint dead yet.
I totally respect that. I like single player (and co-op) the most as well, my favorite as of late being Deus Ex HR. Naughty Dog's games are a bit more linear and more rigid in design; I can see the pluses for that story-wise as the story in this game really is THE draw.
Coincidentally it is somewhat interesting this came up as I remember playing the original Crash Bandicoot (PS1) from Naughty Dog and then read about the more open world of Mario 64, fantasized about it, tried it, and could not play Crash after that. It felt restricting to me but it has also been considered a classic and favorite by many many people, for good reason.
So this game absolutely ruined me. It truly is a masterpiece.

I totally respect that. I like single player (and co-op) the most as well, my favorite as of late being Deus Ex HR. Naughty Dog's games are a bit more linear and more rigid in design; I can see the pluses for that story-wise as the story in this game really is THE draw.
Coincidentally it is somewhat interesting this came up as I remember playing the original Crash Bandicoot (PS1) from Naughty Dog and then read about the more open world of Mario 64, fantasized about it, tried it, and could not play Crash after that. Well I couldnt put the game down yesterday and I got as far as the graveyard with Ellie and the guy who's helping you to get a car and im about to jump right back in. I'm absolutely loving this so far.

Yeah, I think I was probably 13 or so when I played Crash and was blown away. HOWEVER the first Naughty Dog game I played was Way of the Warrior on my friends 3DO, lol. That game basically saved them from going under. I'm glad their studio has stuck around. They really hit their stride with Sony. (/off-topic)

Jak was only really kid-friendly for the first game-- after that, the story got dark... really dark and hauntingly beautiful (entering Haven Forest after leaving the dystopia plagued city was one of the most oddly emotional experiences I've had with a game); on top of that was some highly (funny) raunchy humor. they've really just been working their way toward The Last of Us with each game.
Well I think im a good chunk of the way into the game now (just passed the part where Ellie acts as sniper from scaffolding on the back of the hotel) so here's my thoughts.
I do think some reviewers have gotten a bit carried away with 10/10 reviews simply because everything has flaws and it implies the game is perfect. It isnt.............................but it's damn close.
So far its easily a 9/10 for me. Quite surprised how reeled in the action is compared to Uncharted. So far theyve stayed away from the huge, over the top set pieces seen in those games and theyve kept it grounded. The pace is very slow and this works. I will have no problems if the game does ramp up and have a few major set pieces towards the end because a change of pace after 8,9 or 10 hours certainly wouldnt hurt the game.
I think I'll do a proper review when im finished the game but for the time being, yes I do think the game deserves the praise its getting and if anybody is in doubt about playing it then I would certainly recommend it to anyone. Even if the slower paced gameplay compared to your usual 3rd person action game isnt your thing there'll be something you will like about the game thats a dead cert.
Edit: And a little tip for people yet to play. Just like a lot of games recently, theres a sort of "spidey sense" feature which allows you to see enemies through walls etc. Like alot of games which are incorporating these elements you can choose to turn that feature off. You could just not use it but by turning it off you cant even get tempted to press the button and I can tell you now thats how the games meant to be played. f**k me its tense without it and at times genuinely terrifying and nerve shredding. With the "listen mode" as its called in this game, that effect is somewhat diminished. I used it a few times early on and realised it can be turned off in options so I did and its so much more enjoyable.
Just finished it tonight. Absolutely astounding. Best game ive played since MGS3 imo.
Around the 5 hour mark It started to get a bit tedious and I thought it wasnt going to live upto the hype and then about the half way through the game (8 hours in) I couldn't get enough. Quite a lengthy single player for something that plays out linear which is impressive. Easily twice the length of any of the Uncharted games. This is probably more down to the pace of the game though, as its very rare you'll want to go blasting through areas guns blazing, simply because it rarely works in this game.
It genuinely makes you feel like you have to manage your ammo and supplies to survive and its genuinely frustrating when you waste ammo. Lining up a head shot, only to miss (which will happen) and your attacker gaining ground as you reload can be terrifying. While I play alot of games, im not somebody who would dive in on hard on a first playthrough and Id often use everything the game has to offer. In this case I played on Hard right away and I turned off the option to use Listen Mode (locating enemies behind walls etc). Breezing through this game on Easy, with that ability I think would severely diminish what the developers tried to do with this game and that's induce panic and create oodles of tension. On harder difficulties, knowing the slightest mistake and your dead, it succeeds in spades. I've never played a game thats had my nerves in bits as much as this for a long long time.
Fully deserves all the praise. Not a 10/10 because of a few little niggles that can sometimes spoil a tense moment but certainly a 9/10, possibly a 9.5/10. Nothings perfect. The story and characters in it, are the most believable ive seen in a game for years and while it often feels like its heading in the obvious direction, it never does. Even the ending didnt go down the route I was expecting and I'm glad it didnt because what I was expecting has been done a million times.
If you've got a PS3 and youve got the patience to play a slower paced game that terrifies and thrills you in equal measure, whilst taking your breath away in some of the quieter moment then you absolutely have to play this game.
I finished it today before work, I immediately started up a new playthrough and I cant wait to finish work to carry on with it. I suspect now that im more familiar with how the game plays from the offset, that I'll enjoy some of the first few hours alot more than I did first time.

Playing as a 14 year old girl, trapped in a room with a murderous psychopath who will do god knows what if he catches you. One of the most powerful moments in the game and very touching when Joel finally arrives and tried to calm her down.
That whole section of the game from hunting the deer, to Ellie's struggle with David was my favourite part of the game. You felt at your most vulnerable as you were playing as a 14 yr old without all of Joels arsenal and crafting skills and even with the parts you played as Joel he was still badly injured and moved alot slower than usual.

The part when he draws that machete and the second he sees you he just runs up to and kills you with a single swing was terrifying.
The whole Ellie part made me actually respect her as a character because before that I was like "Meh, protect me" she was a good character but actually getting to play as her and learning the respect for the "Knife!" action I ended thinking she was better than Joel as a playable character, can't stress it more that was the part where I started to care about Ellie.
Something pretty cool happened during my second playthrough which I hadn't noticed the first time or it just didnt happen. I was going to throw a bottle to distract an enemy and I had a gun drawn and by mistake I fired it. The guy ran off into cover so i quickly moved to behind a pool table. A few seconds later a different guy ran toward where the shots came from and as he passed my new hiding spot, Ellie leapt on his back and stabbed him, leaving me to creep up on the first guy and strangle him.
Love how a f**ked up situation (alerting them to my presence accidentally) can still be turned around unexpectedly, on the fly. Excellent stealth / combat system in the game.
I just finished it for the second time and it was just as powerful, possibly more so as you often pick up on things you overlook the first time.

Remember the part where Henry won't let Sam take the toy robot with him and then later in the game, it turns out Ellie took it and kept it for him? Well in the toy shop, if you watch Ellie after Sam walks away with his brother, she waits until she thinks nobody is looking and she quickly picks it up and puts it in her bag. Unbelievable attention to the small details that on a first playthrough would seem insignificant.
Keg-literally was about to post that. Glad other people noticed just how much detail Naughty Dog put into the game.
I just finished survivor play through, that was hard. And very fun, I feel good having finished it. Usually games are a breeze, but this one took a lot of patience and watching to seize small opportunities. The lack of suplies was a bigger deal than I thought it would be, I probably snuck past 3/4 of the enemies I wasn't forced to kill in order to progress.

Joel is my favorite character. How much he grew, from resenting Ellie to accepting her as his daughter and moving through the pain after 21 long years, meant a lot. He was such a dick in the middle of the game. The ending was really depressing though, but I still like Joel because of how far he went to save Ellie.

- Combat and gunplay was superb. Both the melee weapon system and totally random melee weapons like a brick or piece of 2x4 actually reminded me a lot of
Condemned albeit third person. The guns were nicely varied with simple, good upgrades and all quite fun to use, by the end the Shorty shotgun was my firm favourite and able to kill anything under a

- Whilst encounters varied, again like Condemned this was one game where at times I was fearing enemy encounters. Not because of difficulty but due to the incredible atmosphere build up. 'Hotel basement' is all I have to say to othes who have played it...
- Enemy encounters were well crafted but by about 2 / 3 of the way through began to feel a bit monotonous. There were strong attempts to keep everything fresh with the foes through the game but with only really 4 or 5 enemy types things got a tad stale with the fights at times for me.
- Overall character-driven story and voice acting is some of the best I have heard in gaming.
- Enviroments, movement, weather / element effects and overall audio were also tip top in this game.

- Giraffes in Salt Lake City was an awesome and totally unexpected part of the game,a nd quite I am Legend esque with the notion of escaped zoo animals thriving in the city ruins.
- I also liked the slight 28 days later reference with the monkeys being the original test subjects.
- A dissapointment (like Condemned) was the final chapter being mainly just another automatic assault rifle shootout, especially after so much great combat prior.
- I couldn't help but feel Henry's suicide felt a bit sudden and rushed, but I understand that in a cutscene unlike a film things have to move at a bit of a quicker pace.

I think the end sequence really plays out best in survivor, where you don't have the ammunition to go toe to toe with the fireflies. It's a lot of misdirection, sneaking, and sudden bursts of aggression. I think I killed 3 total people, two of which was with a bomb in the area before Ellie's room who were guarding the door.
What I love about the sequence is just how far he went to get Ellie, even torturing the guy to get her room location. Really shows how much she means to him. And then when he executed Marlene because "you'll just come after her," what a badass.
The ending is quite upsetting I thought. It's not a happy, everythings ok ending in any sense at all.

On the surface its a nice ending, because Joel and Ellie are going to live a relatively normal life in the town where his brother Tommy lives. However to do that he did something pretty damn evil, slaughtering the fireflies and the doctors, and then killing Marlene in cold blood. You do understand why he does it, he just couldn't live anymore if he lost Ellie after losing his daughter 20 years earlier. She became his reason for living but it doesnt make it right. When he says to Marlene "thats not your choice to make" i instantly thought, "but its not yours either Joel". He should have asked Ellie if she was prepared to do it and then stood by what ever decision she made. Judging by her comments at the end she would have done it. She's clearly angry inside and feels alot of guilt for the deaths of others, when it came to nothing in the end. She definately knows he's lying to her and you can see it in her face. The last lingering shot looks like shes about to cry.
Personally I thought the best scene in the game was

after Ellie runs away on the horse and Joel finds her in the ranch house. She's grown to love and trust Joel like a father and protector and shes devastated he even contemplated leaving her and dumping her on Tommy. You can see the heartbrake for Joel as well who tries to hide it by being, quite frankly a heartless dick. Really moving that scene. .
About the ending

I actually think Ellie is aware that he lied, to me the look on her face said "I know you're lying, but I understand why." I've seen quite a few people say Joel is selfish for saving her, but I believe that he simply did what any father would do, and protected his child. They weren't even 100% sure they could get a cure, and even if they did I don't think it would have been a yay the world is saved situation. I'm guessing they would have used the cure as a tool of power, only giving it out to people who had something useful to offer.

I think that too. Its clearly playing on her mind or she wouldnt have asked him. Even Joel being overly nice to her would make her suspect something. Previously he was reluctant to talk about his past life before the outbreak and now he's telling her all about Sarah and how he thinks they would have made great friends. She knows thats his guilt coming through and hes trying to hide it. When she confronts him and the camera lingers on her, I got the sense shes in two minds. She's a bit upset hes lying to her and didnt give her the choice but i get the sense shes accepted it because she cant live without him either and she understands.
Still think theyre going to have some rought times ahead and their happy father / daughter like relationship will be in for a rocky ride but I want to think they'll live out their lives in that town, protected by the wall, with relatively little conflict from the outside.

Heres a quick suggestion if you guys havent played it. Enslaved: Odyssey To The West. If you liked this game, you will more than likely enjoy that one. Think this game, mixed with a hack n slash and a dash of Uncharted style platforming as well. Same post-apocalyptic type world, with cities overrun by nature and a journey across america with an older male character and a young girl who grow to respect and depend on each other.
An excellent game, with superb visuals and great characters that you genuinely care for by the time the game is done. This game also has quite a shocking and morally ambiguous ending like The Last Of Us did.
Although it got great reviews, it didnt sell well and is one of the most underplayed great games of this gen. Deserves a play and I think i'll give it another whirl tonight.

Just finished playing Left Behind. Excellent. Very, very good. Full of subtle little character moments that hark back to things you've seen or heard in the main game which will make you love the character of Ellie even more and which also makes that final scene in the main game more relevant.
I was quite surprised how they structured this DLC but it works. The ending to the game leaves you feeling a little bit unsure and that Joel has been a bit of a dick by lieing to Ellie and now this DLC is basically saying, "come look at why Ellie is so upset".
Ignore people saying its only 90 minutes and not worth it. If you loved The Last Of Us and like to soak up the world and explore and you play it on Hard, taking your time with enemy encounters (slow and tense the way its meant to be) I guarantee it'll give you 2.5 - 3 hours worth of quality content.
It took me about two hours but I did all the character moments.

Played it through this morning. Great as ever. So much attention to detail and everything but yeah, way too short.
The last sequence was a bitch. Must have died dozens of times.
I think I died twice but yeah it was right there at the end. I spammed the grenades, the infected came and took out like two guys, and then one guy with a rifle took out like three clickers. So I only had him to deal with. Probably couldn't have happened more perfectly.
I think the infected took a bit too long to appear on that. I cleared it all out the first time and I thought I finally done it all... only for even more guys to drop in.
Looks like that's it for the singleplayer DLC too. I wondered if there would be anymore but it was just that and two multiplayer maps. Guess we'll have to wait for The Last of Us 2.
Yeah I couldn't really find out what the trigger was for the infected in that last sequence. I got down to like two guys on the second group the first couple of times I died and never even saw an infected. Then as soon as the second group of dudes showed up I ran upstairs and stabbed one and the infected were everywhere and only a rifle guy survived.
Kind of disappointing that we will have to wait for the second game but only because I'm greedy and want to play more.
Its my favorite game on PS3. Reminds me of what I consider the golden era of console gaming when the Playstation and N64 were out. Great games told with great stories.
So much of the stuff we get today is just generic knock offs of previous formulas.
I'm hoping for another LOU game, but part of me is hoping they don't touch on Joel and Ellie's story again...I don't want it ruined. :P But I have enough faith in Naughty Dog to do it if they so desire.
They've already said that they weren't planning to continue Elle and Joel's story and just go with more survivors.
But we will have to see if that is actually whats up because when you have recurring characters you are always going to at least have the fans of those characters return.
Hence why Ripley and Hicks continue to show up in stories after their onscreen deaths.

A PS5/PC remake is coming out in September. I thought the PS4 remastered version looked pretty good. I didn't expect them to do a remake for the PS5.

The PlayStation ecosystem for backwards compatibility's a joke, that's why you end up with four different versions of essentially the same thing up ported, between this and Spider-Man though the notable stuff eventually making it to PC's hopefully a trend that continues.
Yeah, I kinda think if it's something already on PS4 and therefore runs on PS5, the upgrade should be given to us in a free patch which many developers do. I'd settle for a simple 60fps patch which they did for Last of Us 2. I always thought Last of Us looked pretty good.

Yeah I'm looking forward to Part 1 even though I bought the PS4 remaster on release. Taking the gameplay mechanics, Animations from Part 2 and adding 60FPS is enough for me.

I do think the 70 dollars is a little scammy but it's a redone Campaign and Expansion plus a new multiplayer mode (which is supposed to be much larger than what factions was back in the day) that is where the money is going.
Factions was almost like playing a different game from sp. It was extremely tense for a console game that had elements of the campaign mixed with something like mad max.
If I had to guess I'd say that it will include elements that were basically simulated (like your infection levels and population health)into actual gameplay (maybe safe base camps or something like Ghost Recon and Division games have) as well as include elements of the infected in multiplayer. Like the sound of gunfire alerting dormant or roaming infected to your spot within the map. The infected outside of simulation were completely absent from the original Factions, which I thought was kinda crazy.
If the MP is really supposed to be a jump forward from what factions was, which was a good mp game that supposedly still has a following from 2014, then I could be okay with the price tag. If it is just the devs blowing smoke up the ass then naw bruh. The development of TLOUII which was deliberately misleading has made me question anything ND says or anything they are remotely tied to.
I think while the storyline seems to follow the beats of the original game (it doesn't appear to be the same kind of remake that the REs are or the FF7remake/sequel where things are wildly different) but just from having played the game so much it does look like there will be minor differences. Just having the controls and fluidity of TLOUII implemented in the original would be a big improvement.
