I have created a new AvP themed fansite: https://www.avpcentral.com
Although I just registered here in the forums, in my defense I will say I made my first fansite in 2001 and have been part of the AvP community ever since (loved the AvpNews days). I have been reading the forums for a long time but haven't really posted anything.
I am a web programmer and decided to combine some of my skills and knowledge on this site.
Its still pretty much work in progress but I am trying to improve the content and technical side. Let me know what you think.
Get some forums up dude.

Get some forums up dude.
The forums seem to be a dying breed, its all about social media now.
I also think having a lot of different forums keeps the community too segregated.
And I mostly like it here :)
Any feedback on the site is welcome.
Social groups do seem to be the current in-trend. But even then, out of all the Alien and Predator Facebook groups only 3 seem to be regularly active.
Do you have any current plans for AvP Central, Ww?

The main plan is to add more content. Articles similar to "Top 10" lists like this, which has been somewhat popular:
https://www.avpcentral.com/top-10-badass-aliens
I am also doing some experimenting with Youtube because that is the bigger "market". AcidGlow and Alien_Theory are an influence.
The site should pay for itself by affiliate links.
I am just curious, can the income from AvPGalaxy keep you focusing on it without doing a "regular job"?
What income? This is a hobby for me. Something I'm so immensely passionate about. I get some physical benefits like review copies and game studio visits which is awesome but I don't actually get paid. What money we receive from ads and subscriptions goes back into the hosting fees, what money I've made from the TeePublic page has gone in a little pot to cover P&P for competitions and etc when we need them.
I'd love to do this full time and get paid for it and be able to work all day on articles and research and etc but the effort that I think would need to be put in to make money off this like the YouTubers do would make it seem more like a chore than I'd want.
I'm looking forward to seeing more content from you. :)

Thanks for the encouragement, it means a lot. I will keep you posted on any updates.
Perhaps AvP Galaxy could like AvP Central is Facebook as well (pages liked by this page), I see it likes most of the AvP related sites.
Not a problem.
No matter how you look at it, it's going to be work. Most of it repetitive. You'll need to love what you do in order to survive. As far as the financial side is concerned everyone will have different needs and deal with as appropriate. My site is currently funded by myself. Actually, I do everything right now.
That may change, but right now, my site is largely the backbone for a larger project that may potentially become a long term income generating concern. That would be nice. I've sunk almost 3 years and thousands of dollars into both - and there's still no guarantee of success.
Right now, it's all fueled by passion. That's what will get you through the lean times. Of course everyone's situation and reason for running a web site is different. Yours will be unique, too. The big pay off is all independent web sites have a completely different personality stamped on them regardless of content - and that will be one of the attractions that will bring people to your door. Otherwise, everything just becomes another homogenised FaceBook page.
Keep it up. We need more independent web sites. They just need dedicated effort to make them worth visiting - and almost more importantly - revisiting.

I actually haven't read the Rage War Trilogy yet although I have the first book. Will update the list soon.
So are they basically big Predators with breasts?
Wilks is not Hicks in the latest version of the book/comic, depends on which you prefer.
Not bad, the top 10 Alien lists needs work though, namely just the gender nouns and "Stompy"'. The Drone on the Torrens was not the same one that targeted Amanda in the Gemini labs, as that one burnt up in the atmosphere. Also take care not to take the game mechanics too seriously, as the Drone shrugging off damage isn't because its tough, but because you are not meant to kill it, its entirely plot purpose only.

I guess Xenos should be called "it"? The Queen is definitely a "she" though. I also thought that "Stompy" was a generally used name for the Sevastopol Alien but after Googling it now seems that perhaps not. The ending of Isolation had a dreamlike quality to it and it always seemed to me to be the same "Drone" that stalked her before, even if seemed impossible.
Thanks for the feedback, will make corrections.
Stompy is more of a nickname we use around here. I don't think it's really got a particular nickname "out there".

I just really loved these stories and the original characters they introduced.
There were a lot of "holy shit" moments in both of these stories as well.
For example, Enoch Nakai stumbling onto a Predator feasting in the desert at midnight.
Paintballers vs the Bad Blood Predator (who is a totally batshit insane bastard) was probably one of the funniest and uneven matchups.
I know the Concrete Jungle trilogy gets a lot of respect but I felt the brother of Dutch felt a little shoehorned into the story. And what is the deal with not giving the first name to him? Is it to suppose to trick some people into believing he is Arnold?

Its probably as a homage or to induce nostalgia. I don't know. :-\ The same could be said for Amanda Ripley, throughout the game she is just called Ripley, like her mother was.

True, although Amanda's "advantage" was that she was an established "character" in the movie and going searching for her mother made sense.

It's interesting to consider that one of the orbiting planets in Predators could be Yautja Prime. Hadn't thought of that - it would definitely add another complex layer to the relationship between the Super Predators and regular Predators, all that action being so close to the homeworld.

Yeah, although it was just fun speculation. The shot of the planets/moons looks very "busy" and unrealistic, although I am not a planetary expert.

You are right about AvP: R but I think it happens for at least a couple of days (which would basically make it the middle of October).
It takes place over two days, ending on the night of the 12th.

Lazy ass plagiarising f**ks.
Yeah, you really shouldn't be amused mate, youtubers such as them are nothing more than lazy a**holes, who plagiarize your work and don't give credit. It keeps happening to us at Xenopedia as well, I am considering taking steps to prevent it from happening again, I might even go as far as to change the licensing. I just need to look into it more.
Think of it this way, that youtuber is getting views and subscribers off your content (without giving you credit, so as for as viewers are concerned, it is his work) and since youtube's monetising goes by how many views and subscribers you got, it means technically, they are making money indirectly from your content (or directly if they have it activated on the video with your content)
I will see if this happens more and call him out on this if it does. Currently, he has plagiarized two articles.

Wasn't totally convinced that the Phased Plasma Pulse Rifle from the Colonial Marines game was the one Hudson meant.
I was under the impression it was. What with them also having the Sonic. Electronic. Ball-breakers! Seemed like they were taking the one-off comments and running with them.
The variety of weapons is one thing A:CM has going for it.
I do find it hilarious, in Bug Hunt mode, if you're playing as Hudson and pick up a smartgun. He's not trained to use it, and neither are Hicks or Apone.
Completely agree. I loved seeing some other weaponry for the colonial marines. And while it was very shallow compared to other games, I also enjoyed the weaponry customisation.
I wonder if the APC cannon was the particle beam phalanx?
From what I remember a phalanx is some sort of old Roman defensive formation. So I would expect it might be some sort of shield?
But then that wouldn't fit the "fry half a city" comment.
There's a defensive weapon called the Phalanx that's used to shoot down missiles; they're usually mounted on naval vessels, but there are land options. They're basically radar-guided miniguns.

Possibly, but I can't imagine it's especially difficult to operate a gun that aims for you.

AVP Central's scheme is really the most user friendly. I had read an article awhile back that black text on white is the number one preferred color scheme. It mentioned White text on dark backgrounds - like AVPG and my site, is often reported as stressful or as an eye strain, especially if your site is heavy on text.
Hindsight, when first starting, I would have built it as a black text on white scheme like AVP Central, but I have over 900 pages now. Not gonna happen now.
My suggestion to AVPCentral would be keep mindful of your navigation. Right now since you have only a few dozen features, your navigation is fine. But as you accumulate content, you need to look into sub-menus and or menu categories. That way your visitors could go to any list from any list page.
I have only about a dozen lists, but you can hop to any Best of list page from any other Best of list page by using a top line menu....see here....http://scifimoviezone.com/scifi05.shtml (http://scifimoviezone.com/scifi05.shtml)

I really like the simple "story" of tracking your fellow clanmate (and his bloodtrail) in the first 3 levels of the Predator campaign.
Reeeeeally surprised that general Spears got only 9th place in your TOP 10 COLONIAL MARINE OFFICERS. For me he's the best thing about Nightmare Asylum .
My reasoning was that I wanted to include a General (and to actually give a view of his uniform) and he was a cool villain (although he was another mad scientist trope).
The only other General that I know of is General Bush from AvP Arcade, and he was a joke.
There might have been another in Rage War (might have been a Colonel also).

Thanks.
I am a programmer by trade so added some interactive stuff including the Predator Names Generator (https://www.avpcentral.com/predator-names-generator) and Yautja Language Translator (https://www.avpcentral.com/yautja-language-translator).
Been reading a lot of comics lately and compiled the list of the best Terminator comics (https://www.avpcentral.com/top-10-terminator-comics) in preparation for the new movie.
Been a bit inactive lately but just posted this: Top 10 Combat Androids (https://www.avpcentral.com/top-10-combat-androids)
Cool.
The first time I ripped off an android's arm in AvP and it pulled out a pistol and continued to shoot me with the other arm was one of my all time surprise gameplay moments in videogame history.
Yeah, that was an element of Classic that I loved too! Good list. I'd forgotten about Liston.
Thanks!
Also, just added a list of the Top 10 Elder Predators (https://www.avpcentral.com/top-10-elder-predators)
Who did the artwork of Kalakta?

Who did the artwork of Kalakta?
It is an unknown artist. The image has been going around the web with the name "Predator King" and looked fitting for Kalakta.
There seems to be a Chinese influence and I have a feeling it's a Chinese artist.

It's probably already been mentioned - but have you thought about doing these as Youtube videos? I think they could be popular.

Thanks for mentioning, I am thinking the same and kind of gearing towards that eventually. But a 9-5 job and 2 small kids dont leave much time than 1-2 articles a month.
I know what you mean. However you've got a bunch of stuff in the bank already, you could turn all that stuff into videos and when completed, release one per week without having to write new material.
He says, being in exactly the same position and not having done the same thing... :(
Why can't you be a YouTube grifter?
I think people have to be actually interested in the content you produce for that to happen.
Probably better to turn this into videos myself, than to be the victim of someone else doing it.
Viral Killer already read some of my stuff word to word in this video, thankfully havent noticed any more of it:
Yeah I suspected some lazy hack on Youtube would nick your stuff at some point. Better to get in there before someone else does.
Someone else is stealing Alien Theory's thunder?! >:(
Shocking.
It's endemic really. I feel the pain. And that's without the kids. Took me ages to get the audio recorded for that last one I sent you, SM. Not even started assembling yet.
Added another list that would probably work better as a youtube video:
https://www.avpcentral.com/top-10-predator-vs-alien-queen-fights
I'm glad you put the pure awesomeness of final fight from AvP 2004 on place it truly deserves
I think I would have placed War higher, but I dig the list! Completely fair having the film's on there, it is after all the one and only time we've seen it theatrically!
I also dig that while the fight at the end of AvP:R was technically a Predator vs. Queen - it was too shit to make the top 10. ;D

Yeah I considered that fight but I don't feel like the Predalien is a true Queen.

Added something new:

Cool list! Agree with you on Rage War being up there, it was well done and had some epic moments.
I'm kinda torn on this one. On one hand, I really dig Rage War. But on the other, I would've liked seeing Galgo and Ahab higher on the list. I mean, come on - Emissaries haven't even showed up in the final movie and they still got 3rd place !
6th place ain't bad! The Emissaries were so unique that they actually said "fck it, lets go full human", while with most of the others it was the other way around.
Some time ago I made this list of humans who went all "Predator":
https://www.avpcentral.com/top-10-human-predators
Fair enough
I think I would've put Machiko at number 1, but Rage War is a fair call.
Galgo is a cold blooded murderer and all round arsehole.
So ?
So I think he was badly written.
I liked him despite these things
I didn't buy the fact that Angela seemed more or less fine with him killing the crew - her crew - of the Kadmos. Or abandoning everyone on LV-223. Whether she knew about him murdering Higgins, I don't know, but all that seemed to be forgotten in Life & Death. I remember telling Fox this when I read the comic scripts, but nothing changed.
Added something new, Batman really has fought the Predator too many times:
https://www.avpcentral.com/top-10-batman-vs-predator-encounters
Wont happen again though
Be Iron Man next. :)
AvP Central should have a tagline:

Well, only one got a limb replacement (Lasershot), and he was a crazed Bad Blood who cut off the hand himself.

Good stuff, I agree the Lope was controversial big time, the P4 variant didn't even have its tube down his throat, he somehow got implanted by the burn on his cheek.
Aliens versus predator 2010 hugger deaths didn't require pushing a buttin though, you just had to have more than one bar of health.

Not sure about you putting Colonial Marines lower than Rescue. I read both comics once. From what I remember, Colonial Marines was pretty uneven as a story but it had some fun bizarre shit and different Kenner-like variations of Xenomorphs. Rescue, on the other hand, was the blandest f**king Aliens comic I've ever read. That comic is probably what people think about while criticizing Marines as an addition to the universe. Damn, I don't think marines even had any lines in that one ! Colonial Marines at least had SOME characterization of the squad members

I have no love for either of them. Both ended abruptly and were cut a few issues short as I understand.

Yeah, according to the NECA (and possibly Kenner) figure bio.
If anyone is still wondering what's happening with the site, I'm still planning on adding new content but have been reworking old articles with better titles and getting rid of some of the "Top 10" aesthetic as well.
It's always nice to check on your site from time to time, seeing if there's any new content . Glad to hear it's still being worked on
