 This will be interesting!
We still don't know however what is going to be brand new features + differences in between the trial.
Hopefully in a few days there will be some one out there who will take a good hard look and do the best review videos as possible. Or just take some damn fine 4K videos of them playing for a couple of hours!

It was the least expensive brand new unused video game i have purchased in a very long time.
But it needs to have all kinds of DLC or it is toast. Hope they can keep building off it.

Alright, I had to make a guest appearance due to this nonsense.  Where are you reading this bs because I've been playing the game since day one and have yet to EVER have an issue with finding a game.  A minute or less is what it takes for a game to start one after the other after the other so if you're reading this, post it, don't say it.

Some stuff in patches almost seem like the bug occured during their regression testing processes and never really were exposed in other releases. Some bullet points are completely unknown to most and I wonder about why it was included in the new patch as nobody really expressed any bug related to it. Fortunately they are catching stuff that likely were a result of new fixes.

Did anyone notice particular bugs happening the night before? I sure did. I think a few things are loaded from a database in every battle and the buggyness happens. Then in the patch its rectified.
I noticed my game not attributing any buggyness this morning after the patch.

conclusion: bugs can happen due to a server upgrade/enhancement/change well before a new iteration of the game is downloaded and installed. As with most online games, stats/loadouts/attributes are loaded from your profile or from a master profile.

Some good and seemingly bad changes in there.

Nerfing the fire team's ability to bunny hop constantly is definitely a great change, as is reducing that insane knife damage they could do to the Predator, along with reducing overall ammo and health stations around the map and knocking the number of ones you could bring into a match by 1.

Increasing the amount of time it takes for reinforcements to come in is good too, but by how much? Having some actual numbers there would be helpful, like other games' patch notes often have.

Likewise increasing the amount of damage that Scouts and Hunters can take should help make those classes (especially Scout) more viable. Having boars light up on target scan is also great, since I think I've found maybe 2 in the full game up until now. And a "blinding flash" for second wind is an odd but hopefully effective way of making that a little less of a death sentence, especially as Berserker.

But then they went and made some weird, unnecessary changes like nerfing fully-charged plasma caster damage. Given how long you had to hold it, and how difficult it can be to get a hit on, I feel like a one hit down with a good trade-off for giving your position away and using so much energy. Given that they buffed Scout to make him a bit better with this patch it seems strange to then to and nerf one of his best tools, and one of the best tools the Predator has in general for being able to down people with any consistency.

And of course nerfing the combistick, but not buffing any of the other melee/close-range weapons. The reason so many people use it (other than it just being a cool Predator weapon) is because it was the only melee weapon that was actually good. I'd legit forgotten the plasma pistol was even in the game until just now. Depending on how bad they've made it now, I feel like melee could be even worse now than it was before. They need to make the bad weapons good, not the one good weapon bad.

Also reducing the number of AI enemies as well as the timer on certain missions means the fire team should be able to finish them even quicker than they already could, which was another big problem that was often the reason so many people felt the need to just rush in and try to kill everyone as quickly as possible. I don't see why they figured that was a good idea. If anything it should have been the opposite.

Looking around though it also seems like this patch still doesn't fix the "new item notifications" bug on the menu even though it says it does, so my ocd is going to continue to make me suffer until they finally get that right. :P

With any luck the fire team nerfs (mainly to stamina) should hopefully be enough to make things at least a little more balanced than they were but some of these changes don't make much sense to me.

I just shot a predator about a hundred times point blank with a large weapon and still got my head removed.
Also DLC content that was more of a predators theme on another planet like the movie would be fun with other bug aliens as AI and also I would be ok with humans being able to use stargazer weapon tech.
King willies cane swords as a melee weapon.
Just predator this game up as much as possible please.

After having just got done playing the most amount of Predator matches in one night than I have in several days, I've got to say.....

*dramatic pause*

.....I think this is overall a good patch!

After the first few days of playing mostly all Predator matches I got pretty frustrated by a lot of the balance issues to the point where it just felt like playing as the Predator wasn't nearly as fun as it should have been. But thankfully I've got to say that by and large these changes do seem to have addressed the balance in a positive way.

I went back and played Hunter and Scout after having mostly stuck to Berserker since I unlocked him, and at least as far as the Hunter is concerned he definitely feels like arguably the best class now. Scout unfortunately still doesn't seem to be too viable, in part because of the nerf to the plasma caster taking away one of its main long-range tools, but the addition of one extra gear item is good, at least. I just wish the smart disc was better too so you could go "full long-range", but it seems like he still needs a melee weapon of some sort for those claims.

As for the Hunter though, he felt great. The increased number of pigs/boar and the ability to track them via target scan is great, since it still has that random edge to it (I only actually healed that way once, maybe twice), but at least now you don't end up using almost all your heals in order to kill and claim people only for them to be reinforced back in and reset all your hard work.

He can also take enough damage to make it so that you don't necessarily have to heal up every time you jump in to melee or claim which helps with that, but he's still squishy enough that two or three fire team members blasting at him will melt him super quick. I played a fire team match with a Hunter who tried to combistick rush right at the start and he got one claim off before we put him into second wind and he ran off for a bit before detonating himself, so that's definitely something you can deal with so long as you're not split up.

Overall it just felt like I was able to do what I've been trying to do since the get-go a lot more now as the Predator and not be punished as much for it. The added reinforcement time only seems to be a few seconds or so and it really doesn't make a big difference, but given that if you play smartly and get a bit lucky you shouldn't have used up as many heals by the time they're brought in now, so it's less frustrating to deal with.

I also wasn't getting parry/knife spammed at all either, which makes me think the stamina changes are doing their job.

There's still some obvious jank and issues they need to fix, but I'd definitely recommend giving the Predator a go again if you're anything like me and decided to take a break out of sheer frustration.

Totally agree. Yeah, FireTeam shouldn't be able to spam spot the trees and the Scout needs to run more silent, but the Predator, especially the hunter Predator feels like in most part it's gained the advantage again, and that's the right thing.

Actually I feel the opposite. It's great to get a Predator off a fellow fireteam member from finishing the kill, often sending it into its second wind. The only time I can't use it is when the Predator is after me. The reduction in speed makes it impossible to evade.

Yeah it's better at close range and/or to lay down suppressing fire than to hit much of anything at range. I often end up not firing it at all if a Predator rushes me though because I end up alternating between spamming parry and trying to fire, which usually ends up with me doing neither. :P

Voodoo. It is a very waterd down version from what we see in the movie. Feels more like a  air gun  and it should rip apart a predator in a second or two of direct fire .  It is silly at best.

Predators can also have a bullet resistance perk and if a Berserker it would contribute to it's ineffectiveness. The mini-gun also has a significant drop in range compared to other guns.
It's basically a big support gun where during objectives it's to help teammates who are pinned down by the Predator so while it's coming in or in the process of taking skulls it's supposed to tear into its health because it assumes you're going to be at range to use it.

It's also a good deterrent to keep Predators off the team because it will have to get in close to take the skulls. I know the wind up can be a pain but if you're using it in the mission area then just keep taping the fire button to keep it spinning so once the Predator arrives you can open fire. It's also good to tear apart the trees so the Predator is easier to spot and less bullets are stopped by branches.

The update feels pretty good to me. I play as the predator mostly and it feels that it fairs a little better against the fire teams than before. I appreciate the developers adjusting the "reinforcement time" For the fireteams. It also seems that the shoulder cannon 's targeting system is quicker but overall the shoulder cannon feels weaker.
- I know it's a pipe dream but it would be fun to have 2 predators hunting 2 fireteams on the same map.  The fireteams and/or the predators could team up to work together to escape or take each other out!  What do you guys think?
- also, anyone know how to unlock the skull trophies for the predator???

The skulls and various trophy cosmetics are specifically from the crates. If there are any other ways to get them we just don't know.

An idea for Predator cosmetics though, what about a Predator trophy that is a Predator skull or a broken helmet? Maybe even a wrist blade. There's nothing in the game to suggest the Predator isn't a bad blood. It might not work with the skulls and trophies being on the side but maybe they could have it that the skull is worn on a shoulder or mounted on the back. Maybe you could get the trophy for a hypothetical Predator versus Predator game mode.

Well after playing for several hours, I can say that I've definitely noticed the improved visuals on PS4.

Everything just looks cleaner, sharper and with way less jagged edges than it did pre-patch. It's noticeable even in the menus. Even though the framerate doesn't seem to have changed overall it looks a lot closer to the quality of the PC footage I've seen now than it did previously, so that's great.

100% agree. I'm actually beginning to appreciate the visuals more, the scope and vividness of the jungle is impressive. And now they've refined some of the rougher edges it is finally looking like a PS4 game.

The wait times are soooooo much better post patch! 2 minutes to play as Predator and 25 seconds as fireteam!

Yep, they're way, way better. Around two minutes on average to get into a match as Predator compared to the "eight if you were lucky" pre-patch is really, really good.

#DoubleDutch

One bad thing with this new patch is that it seems to have introduced a bug for both the Support and Berserker classes where you can't equip your third gadget, so hopefully they get that sorted out asap.

"Fixed an issue where Dutch's facial hair would remain after being claimed by the Predator"

Well Dutch's facial hair is the most highly-prized trophy of them all.

Some good fixes there, especially increased drops for the rarest stuff. But like I just mentioned in the catch-all thread, they seriously need to fix the frame drop problem on PS4 asap, because as soon as that happens it kills the match.

Also odd that they seem to have fixed the support class gear glitch but not the same one for the berserker though.

Hm, not seeing anything specifically about the party issues the game has had since the previous patch. I've been having far more trouble staying in parties now than I've been having crashes, so the sooner they sort that out the better.

It's weird that for a franchise so entrenched into guest characters/appearances that we've only just gotten one in the form of what I assume is a football player. f**king wild.

But I wanna know. Like if this guy is great then I have no problems with this.

I do like what I see with the changes to Predator and that while we don't have a level cap push for the operative, I do like there is something new to unlock and play around with. These changes to Predator will probably benefit Viking immensely though given the much larger health pool.
Given complaints about Predator health and the addition of a rocket launcher, this is a good call.

I'm a little baffled it isn't a Predator but I think the update works on paper.

The armor addition is varying based on the location the Predator is hit. In the developer stream last night, they mentioned that it depends on the additional armor protection but testing shows that it is close to no improvement on damage reduction. Impenetrable has been buffed a bit but it still doesn't really help reducing the damage taken by a premade team that stacks Deadly/Sniper.

Thanks to Ridgetop for pointing it out (at least I assume it was his twitter) but what in the hell is that noise on HQ?

I wanna think it's a ship. Whatever it is the sound seems like it's coming from the facility itself. Anyone know of any other maps that has anything weird going on? It occurred to me that since HQ released early they may have let something slip that we weren't supposed to know about until later. In this case it might've been to tie in with a Predator release or something alongside lone wolf.
Title: Re: Hunting Grounds Patch Release Thread
Post by: Kailem on Jul 20, 2021, 01:05:17 PM
It sounds like some sort of crazy generator powering up, or a cloaked ship perhaps? Either way it's odd. Could just be something that was always meant to be there though and we weren't hearing, like the voiceovers for any of the missions on HQ, and now seemingly some on Excavation too.

Speaking of weird things and Excavation, I did a match on their yesterday where no enemies came when we extracted at the water area. Then when we took down the Pred, no enemies showed up to attack the body either.

Don't know if it's just at that one evac point, but that's something they'll need to fix at some point.

I'm not expecting a response from them but I am sending a message to OldKingHamlet on the forums now. I'm curious if that was meant to be here or if it's something different. If it is something like a ship I'm not expecting them to say anything but at the very least I did bring up the exfil swarm not swarming nor being prompt. I'll update here if I get a response.

I noticed the new HQ sound too. Sounds great and ominous. From the looks of it, the HQ has hydro pumps and maybe all that water is generrating energy. But the new noise only happened in the latest update patch. Still its pretty cool if you have a subwooofer.

Title: Re: Hunting Grounds Patch Release Thread

It definitely feels less stable than it did.

I played a game yesterday where the reinforcements just never spawned in. Never had the countdown timer, never got the blue icon, nothing. Everyone died permanently on their first life. Also had a few instances of the knife not equipping in the weapon wheel, there's no voiceovers whatsoever on the new HQ map (for the mission briefly and during the mission) and sometimes not even in previous maps where I know I've had them before. And some of the ending cutscenes now show multiple evac choppers.

So yeah, they definitely broke a few things methinks.

Oh snap just the ones I wanted too! And really glad they fixed the heat vision at night.

They went around the Jungle Hunter exclusivity by having it be crucified, just pop on the Jungle Hunter mask and there ya go.

And Scar's mask! SCAR WILL COME I TELL YOU.

Fantastic update.
Title: Re: Hunting Grounds Patch Release Thread

Is it Scar's mask, or is it some sort of "battle scars" feature for all the masks? It kinda sounds like it might be the latter.

Either way, now that we've actually got Mr Black and Falconer after getting their masks, and we've seen that Scars has been datamined, it surely is only a matter of time before he shows up too.

And yeah definitely glad about the night maps vision mode fix. Hopefully it'll be a lot easier to see things in thermal vision now than I has been.
Title: Re: Hunting Grounds Patch Release Thread
Post by: SuperiorIronman on Dec 16, 2021, 01:38:09 AM
Scar's I couldn't really notice on the helmets. Looked more like war paint to me but I may not have had the right masks to showcase it.

The captive Predator being a Jungle Hunter clone does not sit right with me especially since the film version had details on it like a wider build, a different shaped but still JH style head and even some changes to the armor like light up gauntlets and a missing shoulder pad. The more interesting route to me would've been a combination of his strung up appearance and his armored. Like he's missing the gauntlets but he's still got the gun strapped to his back. There's just cooler ways of doing it to me than a slightly retextured 87.

The Supers..., they look awful without the mask. I'm sorry they just do. They look like hellish muppets and none of the dreads including the ones they come with line up with the heads. So no matter what you have, the dreadlocks are floating on nothing. We knew it was a problem with the heads but I didn't think it was this bad. There's also some textures that don't really look right. Like they're too colorful if that makes sense. Berserker definitely has a lighter tone. Still the bodies are gorgeous so might as well stick a bag on it. None of the supers have the right roar either. If I had to explain the head without a photo, they basically look like Fugitive after getting his face punched in with a constant shit pants look.

Tracker is also weirdly left out here. I asked about this and as of yet still have gotten no answer per the three times I've asked devs. I don't think I'm getting an answer but it's weird when you consider that of the trio we didn't even get the guy they strung up given how off model he is. I suppose he could be his own release but his absence is noticeable. If anything they probably should've replaced Falconer with the Tracker given he actually did carry a gun and they have the tech for the dogs now.

No real gameplay balance changes? Not even more Predator gear or long range weaponry? Hell, Wolf got them laser traps but we can't use them? Its been delayed from the usual schedule and it still comes out terribly?

This game is done, they are barely doing anything with it anymore. Many people, including myself, are disappointed with this lack luster updates with very little meaningful content and positive changes. Such a shame, and it was a promising game too.

Literally the only other thing I was actually expecting from this hotfix was for them to have made his mask a little less dark, and even with that super low bar they still managed not to cross it.

Yay for more warpaints I guess, but considering how many visual bugs and inaccuracies there are on him, it's a bit of a disappointment to say the least.
Title: Re: Hunting Grounds Patch Release Thread
Post by: RidgeTop on Mar 14, 2022, 07:50:21 PM
Yeah their forums be raging over this. Typically when DLC has been locked after purchase they've fixed it promptly. This took 11 days to make him functional for all users and playable for some users. One of their moderators said that the patch was taking longer because...

"In the interest of making additional fixes based off of player feedback, we're delaying the patch a little more. Thank you for your patience!"

People had a lot of complaints regarding Wolf including mask shader darkness issues, lack of netting, no unique roar, no unique weapons (with a reskinned plasma pistol seeming like the acceptable bare minimum as a model was already created for his shoulder canon), bugged armor shaders (they're still bugged after this hotfix), shoulder canon being too small, and lack of a white eye.

I too was expecting AT LEAST the mask to be adjusted based on the feedback and with them taking this long... I've defended Illfonic but this is just bad. Seems like the worst received update yet for the game and makes me wonder if they really have just moved on. Who knows how much of that recent datamine we'll end up seeing. I hope they come back big for the game's anniversary, but they really missed the mark on this one.

At this point I wouldn't be entirely shocked if we didn't get all or any of the other stuff that's been datamined. They can't keep putting out DLC for potentially the rest of the year if they're just going to be phoning it in as much as they did with this.

They lost all credibility as a serious gaming company over this incompetence , it was a complete failure.

I sincerely don't know how Wolf made it through approvals on either side of the fence. It's bad technically and from Fox's point of view it's superficially Wolf. What the hell happened?

At the very least you would think they'd have done his spear or his pistol. I know he's based on where he is at the start of the movie but the man is known as "heavy weapons" and they really had nothing to choose from?

Ah, I was saying the same thing during the City Hunter release. Remember the roar wouldn't last as long as the animation? Or the syringe sound in the roar? I kept asking, how does this pass through freak'n quality control? How?! Followed by a burp (because I game and drink).

While I still absolutely love this game and still have a blast playing it, it always felt to me that the A-team left Hunting Grounds after the Alpha Predator, and now I'm thinking the B-Team left after Exiled. We got the C-team now and all the good talent at Illfonic is hard at work on Ghostbusters.

All the DLC in the world will not make up for the terrible gameplay and bugs that still exist in the game. Illfonic gotta put those DLCs on hold so that the game won't be a massive disappointment to newcomers after the release of Prey. I just don't know what they are doing in there anymore, it's not making things for the game that much better.

Totally 100% disagree on "terrible gameplay". I wouldn't keep coming back if that was the case, Predator or not.

Nor do I think Hunting Grounds will be a massive disappointment to newcomers after Prey. When it became free on PS Plus, newbies were having a blast with it, with a game that was so much more in a complete state than its original 3 map bare boned debut.

Honestly, it'd be funny if the rumored Ghostbusters game was another Predator title. And it's not like it wouldn't be unwarranted. Lots of studios will release a new entry to account for the mistakes on the first. Not everything can be patched. Frontier specifically did this with Jurassic World Evolution 2 to do aquatic and flying animals. We could see Illfonic do a sequel to account for problems in the original game.

Ahhhh the old, "Nothing bad happened to me, so it must be ok" argument. Predator mandibles look fine in The Predator, idk what you are talking about  :D

Come on man, you can't tell me at least the Predator side of things is greatly lacking in gameplay quality such as the lack of new Predator gear and long range weaponry? Fireteam had plenty of new weapons and gear since last year but Predator gets another melee weapon again? Is it so wrong to get my Speargun so that I don't keep getting my mask blown off the the overpowered sniper rifles that can remove a Predator's health in 3 shots? THAT is the damage dealt by ONE FIreteam, and you don't think the combined might of 4 with that weapon is greatly biased towards Fireteam on that part? Its the reason why the meme of "Fireteam Hunting Grounds" is a thing after all. How can I even have fun with the game knowing full well that I'm just going to constantly win on the FIreteam side of things but just get disappointed yet again by PC Snipers with overbearing power builds when I go Predator? Yes that is terrible gameplay indeed, and the release of Wolf really did get alot of ire from all the social media side of things of the community not being happy with the latest lack luster patch. Not only a terribly modeled Wolf but also not even the nice gear he had from the films or the new weapons as well? How can you not even understand why people were mad at such a let down? But hey if it WORKS FOR YOU, thats only on your end. Some of us actually want the game to be fun and great as it can be, but this current set up its not it chief, but I do wanna hear how the game is perfectly balanced on your point of view.

So if bad things aren't generally happening to me in my gameplay experience of two years, I should still react negatively to it?

QuoteCome on man, you can't tell me at least the Predator side of things is greatly lacking in gameplay quality such as the lack of new Predator gear and long range weaponry? Fireteam had plenty of new weapons and gear since last year but Predator gets another melee weapon again?

So you're talking about a lack of new weaponry for Predator, because you've grown tired of their current array of weapons. How does any of this support terrible gameplay in its main sense, which is, the way we the players interact with a game, it's asymmetrical rules, controls, and the challenge?

QuoteIs it so wrong to get my Speargun so that I don't keep getting my mask blown off the the overpowered sniper rifles that can remove a Predator's health in 3 shots? I can't speak of PC, and I have crossplay turned off for various reasons, but I play PS4 Pro several times every week and still have fun and constantly take trophies as the Predator. When the Fireteam is extremely good, a satisfying win to me is just obtaining at least one of their heads as a trophy, and surviving. It burns them so up.

And I never have problems finding full matches quickly, which means others are enjoying the general gameplay too.

QuoteYes that is terrible gameplay indeed, and the release of Wolf really did get alot of ire from all the social media side of things of the community not being happy with the latest lack luster patch. If you see my previous comments, I agree the Wolf DLC was bad. But to me, that is clearly separate to the game's general core gameplay and their ability to have fun with it.

Regarding the balance, and what the devs intended, we already discussed ad nauseum I think. We know where each other stands. No need to rehash it again I think.  :)

Mask wasn't remodeled I think, they just gave Wolf his white eye, netting, and fixed the texture issue with his neck. Oof because this is traditional update time and this is more of a simple patch. It's clear from Illfonic's Forums and the comments on social media that the game's remaining devotees are not happy.

Then they should communicate that to their remaining playerbase so they don't keep feeling strung along. There's also been quite a bit more content datamined that has yet to release and a new Predator movie which would be a big tie in opportunity. I know the lawsuit probably messed things up but the game has an active enough playerbase that I think the potential is still present. But they do seem like they're ready to move on.

All of this is the same, only without a DLC character, geez what is wrong with this company? I hope this is passed on to another group that can give the real tender love and care that it deserves, this is agonizing to see the only Predator game we had in a decade.

Apparently they said that they can't do better communication due to some kind of red tape under some third party or something they have with Fox. I have no idea if this is true or not, but one thing for sure, they done their best to ignore all the feedback the community had given them to work with.

It's probably a contract thing. Basically that the lawsuit probably screwed them over and figured that if they're about to loose the license they're gonna drop whatever work they got and move assets to Ghostbusters. Essentially they have to keep going because they're probably under contract and lack the staff to build the next game while maintaining the last two.

Honestly I think the hiring they're trying to do might be for Predator. I don't think that's entirely Illfonic's fault but I do think they bit off more than they can chew. Without them doing a sequel I don't see them doing anything beyond the leaked list.

Well it seems like no one can @ the mods in the forums and there will no longer be livestreaming so that's a sure sign of them withdrawing from the game. Dammit, I feel sorry for anyone that buys Ghostbusters or Arcadegeddon, if they are going to treat these games the same way they did here with Predator.

It's been obvious from the start of the year that they were seriously winding down support. Characters and the occasional mask are all anyone should expect from the game now, and honestly I'm surprised they're even still putting out that much.

It's a niche game with a medium to small-sized budget that's over two years old now. As much as we'd all have loved it to become "the ultimate Predator multiplayer game" that was supported for years and years, a la Dead by Daylight or some other live service games, that was always unlikely to be the case; especially with Illfonic moving on to Ghostbusters.

Same boat here. Seeing a lot of people pissed that this game isn't being treated like a AAA title would is odd to me. Maybe it's that we're all Predator fans and want this to never go away, but I didn't expect much. We've had more supper than I imagined. Yeah, the game needs a lot more substantial, but we're way passed the timeline for that. The pandemic and lawsuit likely didn't help either. There are games that I bought the same time frame of Predator that didn't have support anymore, but I don't expect them to either after a few years because that's how most games go. Like Kailem said, it ain't DBD that has a crazy active player base.

Plus, the PHG message boards is a really sad place. Situations like that space make me question how the game had any support when you see the behaviors there. They need to find a hobby or go outside with how they are acting like this is the end of the world, and attacking their mods (whom one may have been just fired?).

Loved the game, but didn't expect us to make it this far to be honest. And seeing cosmetic fixes on Wolf and stuff is a pleasant surprise. This update is more than I ever expected at this point, and if we ever get more content in the future, I'll be really surprised.

With how late Wolf and that Predators pack came out, I definitely think the lawsuit and Disney takeover held them up in ways they weren't counting on. Honestly I was pretty surprised when all those new characters got datamined, since at their usual rate of one update every two months it meant they'd have content to release up until the end of this year, and that was longer than I thought they'd be supporting it for.

But obviously now that cycle has been broken, which makes me wonder if things got pushed back because of the Wolf fixes, if they're releasing parts of the Tank character now and then are planning on putting the full guy out later like they did with Mr Black and Falconer, if they got canned altogether or if some of those datamined descriptions were only for masks (which would be a bit weird)?

So yeah, I'm a little surprised that this update was so minimal, but not as surprised as if it'd been a year or two ago. Now though it's like "yeah, that sounds about right."

Hopefully we at least still get Celtic since he was datamined too, but even that much I'm no longer holding my breath on after this.

I appreciate how far past release Illfonics has supported this title, but in my opinion its getting really stale. Aside from new predators that are almost new classes arent going to help prop the game up for another year.

would be really cool to see a different gaming company try and take on a predator rpg/mmo type of game where there's a deeper focus on creating a predator character and playing through a story / open world type of enviroment.

Yeah, the game needs a lot more substantial, but we're way passed the timeline for that.

Its more like its been two years when the community is asking for fixes that can be made that isn't too much work such as lowering the damage that some weapons like how the SAWZ sniper rifle can remove a bio-mask in two shots without stacking damage buffs leaving the Predator completely vulnerable to Fireteam as it has very little to nothing to track down mudded Fireteam, use of the plasmacaster, or pigs for healing meanwhile Fireteam has all the damage buffs, stacking, and tools to hunt down vulnerable Predator that can barely do much that its reduced to a glorified moving target practice.

How about the fact the EMP Mine that Fireteam uses, a fantastic idea of countering Predator technology, is utterly useless as it requires the Predator to directly step on it to work instead of some kind of slightly larger radius like we see in other games, making the EMP basically useless.

Or how about adding some new passive traits that can benefit the Predator such as resistance to explosions by 25%, decreased damage from fireteam when sprinting by 15%, or increased damage and speed when wounded? You see interesting Fireteam passives like AOE dmg reduction, increased dmg beyond 50m, post sprint dmg increase or decrease, mud dmg resistance, meanwhile Predator passives are some variation of melee damage increase/decrease and/or more vulnerable to bullet/melee knife damage: 5% melee damage increase, 7% bullet/knife dmg resist, Knife dmg increase or resist... and that's it.

I know a thread that can explain these details better but basically its doesn't have to do everything in that list, just enough to make things more interesting and not its very stale state that it is right now. its been the mostly same for the past two years, and it can be better just by a nice margin if they addressed at least 1/4th of these changes.

@Corporal Hicks @Dachande @RidgeTop  they released a new patch

Patch Notes 2.50

To Our *Predator: Hunting Grounds Community*:

Thank you. Thank you for loving this game as much as we do. This community is enthusiastic, vocal, and full of passion. You've mastered this game so much that even some of the Devs are wary of matchmaking against you all. This is what every dev team hopes for. We love seeing your tournaments, fashion shows, cosplay, and gameplay! Because of this, IllFonic knew we needed to get our Predator community more. When we make a game, we want it to live and evolve. We want to continue to challenge players.

Now that IllFonic is publishing games, we had to get Predator: Hunting Grounds back. We knew we had more game left to make. We needed to get back to the Chopper! With advancing tech and what we have learned in recent years, there was so much more to be done for Predator: Hunting Grounds. So, I'm thrilled to announce the team has been working hard to bring you new content this year. Here is just a quick preview of what you will start to see from the team:

* **We are releasing a considerably sized patch this April.** The focus is on player movement, Fireteam weapon rework and balance, Predator weapon balance, and UX/playability improvements.
* **In the fall of 2024**, not only are we coming to Nextgen - PS5, but we plan to release Predator to Xbox! This release is focused on all things next-gen running on Unreal 4.27, Vivox, and Wwise, with a Standard Edition and a Digital Deluxe Edition offered.
* **In the Winter of 2024**, Fans will get not one but two new Predators.
* **In the Spring of 2025**, we are rolling out more Predators.

We really are excited to rejoin our community in the jungle. Get ready... we can already hear the bongos.

Cheers, and happy Gaming.

Charles Brungardt, CEO, IllFonic Inc.

# Adjustments and Balance Changes Notes

Welcome back to the Hunting Grounds! My name is Jordan Mathewson, I'm the Design Director here at IllFonic. Today, I'm extremely excited to be writing these patch notes, as it's one of my favorite projects and the first game I was a part of from the very beginning. Recently, part of our community and development teams here at IllFonic have been out gathering issues and tackling them in preparation for this return. When I got wind we were able to finally work on a patch for Predator: Hunting Grounds, I spent some time evaluating things we could additionally improve on to make this a really substantial update.

Returning to previous work is always interesting, especially when it's a project earlier in your career. Now that I've worked on several other titles here at IllFonic, I've gained more perspective from more years of development experience. As I dove back in and reviewed the mechanics, features, and balance of Predator: Hunting Grounds, I found areas where we could improve gameplay in ways we didn't expect.

Growing up as a gamer, I was always interested in becoming a developer, though I really wished I was exposed to someone explaining the game development process more, so I want to take this time to walk through our approach to this patch. There are always so many decisions to be made when approaching situations like this, so we want to give you a glimpse into what we're thinking when it comes to the development process.

#### Player Movement

Player movement is something that stood out to me instantly as needing some attention. For these changes, we wanted there to be more finesse in the player movement on both sides of the playing field. There are so many things that contribute to this feature, including the fact that we have two completely different movement styles between Fireteam and Predator.

* Predator Movement - I noticed right away that something the Predator movement needed was more "weight". These creatures are supposed to be massive and powerful, yet they felt floaty when leaping through the air. That floatiness led to the Predator being much more vulnerable while in the air than they should be. We tuned the Predator's gravity, movement acceleration, and jump velocity to achieve the Predator's updated movement feel. There were no direct changes made to the Leap, however all the changes mentioned above have both directly and indirectly affected the Leap. Predator players should now feel they can reliably get where they want to go faster and more consistently, which should also give them a more viable escape tool during heavy combat and Second Wind.
* Fireteam Movement Updates - While Fireteam control and style of movement differs from Predators, they still lacked weight to fully ground them throughout gameplay. There was also a plethora of other things I felt would benefit from a stamina rebalance pass.
   * Fireteam stamina rebalance pass - To help push Fireteam members to be more careful of their stamina usage, I evaluated and re-tuned several stamina variables. Keep in mind, the "stamina" stat will not look different in the customization menu. All values were kept within the range of the existing class structure.
      * Reduced Stamina regeneration speed
      * Increased stamina totals, focused benefit to scout and recon classes
      * Reduced Fireteam jump stamina cost
      * Reduced Fireteam exhaustion duration
   * Added very slight movement debuff to Fireteam when wounded - There was originally a slight movement speed reduction below a certain health threshold, but I felt it was barely noticeable for being "wounded". This value has been tuned, so Fireteam members will be a bit slower when wounded.
   * Adjustments and tweaks to Fireteam sliding - We wanted to make slides feel better, so we increased the amount of distance and time Fireteam members can slide for.
   * Updated intensity of Fireteam landing and Predator footstep camera shakes for Fireteam - We wanted you, the player, to feel the weight of a fully geared up soldier. To that point, we also wanted you to feel the weight of nearby Predators stomping around. To give you that feel, we increased the intensity of these camera shakes to help better immerse the player.
   * Updating fall time on First Person arms animation logic to tighten falling feel for Fireteam - We think visual feedback is really important to connecting you, the player, to your character. In my movement investigations, I noticed a sluggish feeling in first-person when Fireteam members walked off of ledges. The game will now react faster to the feedback of jumping, falling, and landing across different heights.
   * Slowed Fireteam member a smidge when using heal syrette - We slightly increased the movement penalty while injecting yourself with a health syringe. The syringe gives a massive health increase in such a short amount of time. Such a benefit should have more of a cost. Fireteam players should have to take the movement penalty into consideration while being chased.

#### Fireteam Weapon Rework and Balance

This is something I've been eyeing for a while! The engineering team and I teamed up to revisit some of the FPS features that felt like they needed the most attention. Then, based on playtesting, community feedback, and personal observations, I updated some balance to some of these Fireteam weapons.

* Fireteam Weapon Recoil Rework - Recoil should now feel like it more realistically matches a weapon's power. The way recoil was being calculated between shots caused recoil to look more jarring on heavy weapons. We reworked this calculation to help create a much more realistic feeling kick to all guns.
* Full Weapon recoil pass - With the recoil system rework in place, this allowed me to do a full rebalance of recoil across all the standard fireteam weapons. We mostly increased recoil on powerful weapons and made some more unique recoil patterns to better portray the "kick" differences between weapons you are wielding. I am loving the way these weapons are feeling now and hope you all agree!
* Minigun Buff - The minigun seemed like it didn't quite have the oomph it needed. I made some adjustments to make this a much more viable option for Fireteam members that want to whip out Ole Painless and dish out the hurt. Tightened the Minigun's accuracy, but also increased recoil. I also increased the magazine and ammo counts so Fireteam members can fire the minigun for a sustained period of time to provide threatening suppressing fire.
   * Added more ammo to minigun mag, increased starting ammo reserve
   * Increased speed of walking with minigun
* Lowered close range damage on ARs and LMGs - ARs and LMGs were doing a bit too much damage at close range. This was taking away from where SMGs and Shotguns were supposed to shine.
* Increased close range damage on SMGs - To go in tandem with the AR/LMG change, we are buffing the close range damage of SMGs to give them more power and viability in specifically close quarters combat. We felt shotguns were fine in the state they were in.
* Ammo reserve and ammo pickup amount pass across all guns - I want the Fireteam to be more conscious of how they manage their resources, and encourage teamwork between Fireteam members. I felt there was a bit too much firepower on the field with how many resupply opportunities there are between ammo crates, Fireteam ammo bags, enemy ammo drops. To tone down this firepower, we reduced the starting ammo for the standard Fireteam weapons. Also, some weapons were receiving more ammo from pickups than others. We adjusted those ammo pickup numbers to balance overall firepower and resource management.
* Other Updates
   * Toned down muzzle flash for Hammerhead - There was an intense light blowing out the iron sight of the Hammerhead. I reduced the light intensity which helps improve this visual.
   * Slowed use of RP103, 7EN, and SAWZ - Heavy weapons are powerful and should feel powerful, but they should also feel like they have weight as a trade-off for that power. To help balance and reinforce the feel of these heavy weapons, I slowed down several stats and animation speeds to offset their powerful nature.
      * Lowered movement speed on all scoped weapons
      * Slowed scoping in and out speed of the 10x scope
      * Slowed reload on 7en and RP103
   * Reduced overall damage of ZR55 slightly - While the ZR55 still received a close range damage buff, I did slightly decrease the ZR55's overall Damage, as this SMG was outperforming most other weapons with its combination of high damage and high rate of fire.

#### Predator Weapon Balance

Based on personal observations, as well as feedback from the community and the IllFonic team, I made some updates to some Predator Weaponry balance. The Predator remains powerful, but there were some features that needed some specific adjustments to improve the experience.

* Plasma Caster Radius Nerf - The radius on the plasma caster was much too wide, so the radius has been reduced. This will make it much more difficult to spam around corners and will require Predator players to be more precise with their aim.
   * Tuned plasma caster AOE to better fit the represented VFX (tightened)
   * Slightly increased lower end damage of a charged plasma caster projectile
   * Slightly increased direct hit damage for plasma caster projectile
* Handheld Plasma Caster Nerf - After looking at feedback and stats, we saw that the HHPC was a bit too powerful. We're lowering the damage and reducing the magazine size of the HHPC, but to keep it feeling viable, we're increasing the rate of fire.
   * Lowered direct and AOE damage of handheld plasma caster projectiles
   * Reduced mag of HHPC to 6, slightly increased rate of fire
* Cleaned up and adjusted Predator melee weapon attack timings - After auditing through many melee attack animations, I noticed a few spots where there were some incorrect "combo threshold timings". This is a variable that tells the game when it can allow you to perform the next attack in the melee combo. These are small tweaks, but will improve the timing and feeling of melee attacks and combos across the board.
* Fine tuning and re-adjusting placement of parry end notification to make more sense across all pred melee attacks - I found there were some misplacements in parry timing that were making parries far easier than they should be. I adjusted the timings to make sure parries are only possible right before the Predator's melee weapon is about to strike a Fireteam member. Fireteam will have to better anticipate attacks instead of mashing to get a successful parry. I also found a spot where some parry notifiers were happening incorrectly on multistrike melee animations. This is a delicate balance, so we are going to keep a close eye on parries overall!

#### UX/Playability Improvements

We always want to focus on the user experience and overall playability while we play our games. As I've been playing P:HG, certain small things started to jump out to me that needed some attention. While not all of these changes are huge, we understand these small things can add up to a frustrating game experience. The changes listed here should help make the overall gameplay experience clearer. Enjoy!

**Fireteam**

* Adjusted interact widget for Fireteam to better highlight input - UI widgets that players see on in-world interactions had a very small button image that was rather tough to see when on screen, especially in chaos. Increasing the size and visual of this button image has helped make it much more clear that a button needs to be held down for an interaction to occur.
* Made non-selected gear items grayed out - In your in-match gear inventory, I felt it was very difficult to quickly see which gear item you currently have selected for use. To address this, we grayed out the gear that you do not have selected so that your selected item stands out more clearly.
* Added distance highlights for ammo, health, and weapon lockers - I saw that players couldn't tell if something was interactable or not when it was far away. We've updated interactable objects so Fireteam members can clearly identify what is interactable from farther away.
* Cleaned up and fixed some issues with the Fireteam mission widget - There were several issues with the Fireteam objective window in the top right of the screen. After digging into it, I fixed up some random bugs and increased the visibility of the current objectives icon. This should help inform what objective icon you are looking for while in a match.

**Predator**

* Added some urgency to the second wind widget - We felt beginner Predators had a hard time noticing when their health was dropping. We wanted this visual feedback to be more clear.
   * Increased visual flashing and intensity of visual flashing of iconography and text on the HUD to help players better understand they are in second wind.
* Tightening delay on Predator Interactions to make holds like trophy claim and boars snappier. To improve on some sluggish interactions on pivotal gameplay, we decreased the amount of time Predator players have to hold the interaction key for long claiming and consuming boar interactions to begin progressing. Every second counts. These decisions and interactions can change the course of a hunt, and this tune should give a more responsive feel.
* Improvements to Predkour entry - We've observed that entering into Predkour trees from the ground can sometimes happen in situations you are not trying to do so. To help alleviate this, I made some adjustments to improve the overall experience of Predkour by adding a highlight to the entry interaction, which allowed me to tighten the interaction distance itself. Players now need to be closer to enter, and will have better UI feedback to explain this.
* Increased size of visual flare for health on Predator - To better help Predator players keep track of their health with peripheral vision rather than needing to take your eyes off the action in a firefight, I increased the size of the visual flare element that extends vertically when taking damage. This is a vertical UI image that aligns with the current health amount, and will now extend high enough to catch players attention when damage is being taken, especially in quick succession.
* Increased intensity of health bar flashing on low health for Predator - To help players better understand they are at a low health, we added a more noticeable flashing animation to the Predator's health bar. This increased flashing intensity combined with the other low health visual indicators should clearly communicate to the Predator player the danger that they're in.
* Sped up the Second Wind healing process for Predator - This is a buff to the second wind heal, making it happen faster so the Predator can get back into the hunt.

**General**

* Full Fireteam and Predator Camera update and polish pass - I caught and managed to track down several dynamic FOV adjustments that were happening with movement states which weren't feeling quite right. I found where these were triggered and removed them, which got the cameras feeling much more responsive to input. As you play with either side, the camera experience should feel much more connected to your controls and movement of your player.
* Updated damage and radius of explosive barrels to be less/varied depending on source - I noticed that explosive barrels were a rather punishing aspect of the game that should be toned back. In order to get this in a good spot, I lowered the overall damage and radius, and then tuned some lower numbers for the gas can, since that explosion should be much less impactful than a propane tank.
* Tweaked explosive damage type to add a bit more impulse at high damage - I observed that some explosions weren't quite giving that full 80's movie oomph when killing bad guys. So, I increased the impulse velocity done to NPCs killed by explosive damage sources. This should work with any explosion in the game, which gets more intense the closer to the epicenter

We are beyond excited to be back in the Hunting Grounds! I hope that everyone is excited as us that this is happening, and we here at IllFonic appreciate the passion and dedication this community has shown throughout the life of this game. We understand that this patch will have a large, refreshing impact on gameplay and balance, so we'll be closely observing. As we gather more feedback and witness the results of the update, we will continue making the changes necessary to make everything really sing. Good luck out there Fireteam! :)

If only we would just get new maps. A city one would be great or even an a large ancient temple? I realize there would be a lot of difficultly with the city map though. It would have to look busy and still have to differentiate between Enemies and civilians.

Predator movement would have to be adjusted for rooftop movement over trees etc. it would be a significant change from the base gameplay. Which is most likely why it's been jungle maps up to this point.

Making this a F2P game? really? Ohh yeah, because that has worked so great for other franchises...  ::)

Look at the state of Halo Infinite. If there is something its community always complains about are the overpriced cosmetics being offered in seasonal bundles, much of them having a pricetag of a brand new game... now you proposing that system but with loot crates with "random" rewards? thanks but no thanks!

Does anyone else feel predator stamina recharge is way slower now? I'm faster in trees but restoration with leaping and sprinting seems slow.

Can we have better AI? I have noticed that the programming behind the AI is quite shit even though I'm not a programmer myself, but the old saying is"you don't need to be a chef to know your food is shit"

Me too, it feels like the stamina regen for the Predators is slower and that really messes the flow of their gameplay. Also, noticed that Predators are getting stuck in the environment more now. But the predators are having an easier time against the Fireteam, that's for sure. Don't really notice the slide length increase at all and you can still melee the predator to minced meat.

Someone pointed this out on the PHG forums but it makes sense. Because you spend less time in the air during a leap now, your stamina is charging at the same rate. Mind you, you're getting the exact same distance and height prior to the patch. Before hand by the time you hit the ground you could have 2 or 3 leaps ready to go. Shorter airtime = less recharge time.

So it's just traded off, I am mixed about this as I think there should be a slight buff to stamina to compensate for the changes even if it's 10% more. But on paper I get it. You can slightly fix it by adding the long leap perk as that gives you a little bit more distance and airtime.

One thing I would also like fixed in the future is offline Bots fireteam AI while you are playing the predator. If they could somehow make them focus on the mission instead of following you around and sitting under a tree your on, then I would be very thankful lol.

Me too dude. Better yet if they can do a reinforcement, I'll be as happy as a puppy.
