Can the show still be good if it contradicts the lore?

I was wondering, since I saw a couple of people treating the show like it was going to be bad because of contradictions and retcons to the lore.
If the show was really good, would it really deserve the hate, even if there were contradictions to the franchise?

SM

Short answer - yes.

That said; if it contradicts it too much it can have a detrimental effect on the overall product.

If it contradicts elements of the franchise that was barely explored, would that be detrimental?

SM

Depends.  Did you have anything in mind?

I think many people would be happy if it contradicted the lore around David creating the Aliens, or the Jockeys being Engineers.

Lv-426 should not be the only place where the Aliens can be found, but not in a David way!

SM

If they're found elsewhere any time after 2104, I don't think there's any lore contradicton.

Contradicting the lore is the least of my concerns. I'd be very happy for it to radically depart from most or all of the established stuff and just do it's own thing entirely.

The solarpunk aesthetics and shitty looking Aliens are my real worry.

Well, that and the Peter Pan themes, I literally can't think of anything I want further away from an Alien project than that sort of stuff.

I expect a scene like David watching Lawrence of Arabia in Prometheus, but it'll be some brilliant manchild obsessing over this:

The contradiction I'm talking about is related to the fact that the entire fate of the species is sealed by Ripley after Alien 3, since they act like the only place in the universe where you can find the eggs are on LV-426!

Local Trouble

Only known place.

That's a fair complaint!

Just wait until the antagonist loses a hand to a xeno that has a portable mu/th/ur terminal embedded in its dome, giving a spoken countdown clock sound when never it is nearby 🤣

Aww shit now I've went down that line of thought; the divers in the teaser were surfacing at skull rock weren't they? 🤣 the eggs are totally gonna be found on a moon in an ocean cave that sort of resembles a skull... Wendy darling is going to make a remark when putting on the diver gear that she feels like a mermaid.

Other quotes are going to be when the ship is taking off to fly, and one child-synthetic is anxious, Wendy is gonna tell them to "think happy thoughts" *making the Peter Pan bingo card now* 🤣

I don't have the faintest idea about this 'Peter Pan' thing, but would it be more palatable if James Hetfield had a cameo as a pilot and says 'We're off to Never-never land?'
