f**k YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH !!!

hiab-x

I just wanted to swing by and thank you all for an amazing episode for fans of Alien Isolation. It was a pleasure to listen to from start to finish, particularly for the candid conversation absolutely loaded with details about the creation of the game and the slow burn of growing love from the gaming and wider Alien movie loving community.
It was interesting hearing how Dion and Will critically reflected on their own creation, given factors like the much derided IGN review. For my own two cents, I played the game back in 2014, feeling that although excellent, it did feel like a long slog in places. Jumping forward to this year, particularly needing an extended fix of the 1979 aesthetic, having just seen (and loved) Alien Romulus, I decided to take a punt at the iOS version of A.I on my iPad. I was actually blown away at how well the port had worked to be virtually indistinguishable from the PS3 game. The biggest surprise to me though, was how much more I enjoyed my second play-through. I didn't want it to end. I'd once thought that it was an overly long game, now I think it's pretty damn perfect.
Currently on my third outing through Sevastopol, just because I feel like I'm good enough at the game now, to know how to take a touristic view through the scenery and artwork.
Thanks again for putting together a great show. Loved every minute of it.

That was excellent!! Great job gentlemen!! It was interesting to hear how the programming of the Alien AI was done. Regardless that it wasn't "self learning", it was way WAY ahead of its time.
Also, I really enjoyed the working Joes in the game it was so cool to listen to some of the behind the scenes with that. I can literally hear: ask me about Sevastopol's safety protocols in my sleep haha.

I hope the programmers realize that Alien Isolation is the Gold Standard/the bench mark that every other Alien game will be compared to. It's amazing. I've played through it at least four times(the most recent earlier this year) and this game really hold up.

As a funny side note, in my play through this year my daughter glimpsed in on some game play. It just happened to be a moment where I was moving through the space station and the Alien was on the other side of the door surprising the both of us.  My 6 year old daughter didn't say much until about a week later when we driving home. She says do you know what the scariest thing for me is? I said, no? What? She responds with SPACE. I said why? Without skipping a beat she says because there are aliens like in that game out there. We both laughed.. That is a CORE memory for both of us, so thank you so much for the experiences.

I'm about halfway through and it's just such a treat to hear the thought process of the people behind this masterpiece of the game.

Can't wait for the retrospective roundtable !

Another great pod! Thanks - been loving them.

At one point you asked who scripted Sigourney's lines. And though you didn't say it, I wonder whether it's because you have the sense that... they don't quite work? That was definitely my sense. And I think it may be because the lines are a bit wooden. They don't really do much to suggest a proper connection to Amanda, and even Sigourney doesn't seem able to do much with them. I love this game, but I found this scene a bit anti-climactic, if I'm honest, given that Amanda's been waiting for this all her life.

It's weird hearing Ripley call somebody a "sweetheart"

Outstanding discussion, it was great to hear some of the insights of the developers.

The thing with the IGN review that was most irksome was how much Ryan doubled down on it.  Nonsensical complaints about the AI being too unpredictable (that's a problem how?) and it being able to kill you in vents (did he watch the movie it's based on, where they talk about how it uses the vents, and have a whole sequence that results in Dallas being grabbed in them?).  And then he brings on three company yes-men to back him up...none of whom had even finished playing the game.  One hadn't even seen the alien in-game yet.   :o  It was a total joke.  And then a decade later he's still tweeting and gloating about it.  Totally petty and unprofessional.

Fantastic podcast. One I thoroughly enjoyed even as someone previously too chicken sh*t to play the game (actually started playing it now) but have a very healthy respect for this classic.

Well done to @Corporal Hicks and @RidgeTop for yet another excellent interview. Very grateful for all the hard work you and others do behind the scenes on AVPG, to give this community such great content.

Another brilliant episode. Fascinating insight from the developers who all sound like thoroughly decent people.

Well done chaps.
