I would prefer that the Predator retains its apathetic attitude towards humans, viewing us as mere animals who's only use to them is sport. This premise is unique and terrifying, and it would be a shame to abandon it in favor of Predators with altruistic intentions for humanity. While it's reasonable to assume there are many Predators in the galaxy, some with radically different views on humans, showcasing these perspectives might not necessarily benefit the franchise. Like @BigDaddyJohn said: ''It could open a box that may not be easy to close afterwards''. Introducing a "hero" Predator who protects humanity in a successful film could set a precedent, leading to this version of the Predator dominating the big screen moving forward.

That said, I'm not opposed to something like Scarface. A protagonist Predator who, while acting in its own best interests, happens to benefit humanity indirectly. However, I don't want to see a movie where a Predator teams up with humans and consciously fights for the good of humanity, whether or not this aligns with its own interests.

I think Dan knows this and won't go for a full on hero pred.

I think so as well, but depending on how Dan does it in the movie it could be a slippery slope to just that.
However so far I have a rather good feeling about Badlands, we'll see how it goes.

Quote from: The Cruentus on Mar 25, 2025, 01:44:35 PMA predator's code is whether someone is armed or not, it really doesn't care if its a cop or gangster, human morality doesn't apply to it.

I'd hope that they'd continue to maintain something about it that sets it apart from humanity, like the fact that it doesn't follow our codes or morality. That's such a big draw of the Predator - the fact that it is so different and in a way unknowable. You take that away and then it just becomes another dude with a funny face  :-X

I think if they are indeed going down the AVP path, we can reasonably assume there will be teamups. Teamups are just par for the course for AVP, it's its "thing".

That being said, I can't recall a story where the Predator joins forces with humans for the good of humanity in general. Not even in the Rage War novels. I think the closest we got was in The Predator with the suit, and that fell way flat. It would just be so bizarrely incongruent with the rest of the Predator movies and EU.

They're not really that unknowable. They're big game hunters, they're interested in hunting challenging game. It's not that mysterious.

Fair point, but I think a certain stony aloof attitude (with moments of sadistic joy, and some rage as the plot dictates) is what people are driving at. More that they refuse to be known than are some Eldritch contrivance like the Alien.

Yes, I meant more in this general sense.

You're right but the concept of a team-up for a new AvP feels like a tired and uninspired direction for such a movie. Instead it would be far more compelling to have a scenario where both Aliens and Predators pose equal threats to the human protagonists. The humans would have to navigate the chaos created by these two deadly species battling each other, all while remaining in constant danger themselves, as neither creature hesitates to kill any human that crosses their path.

Another possible angle could be to have a Predator ship threatening to annihilate a human colony, where much of the movie has been taking place. In a desperate effort to stop the destruction of the colony, one of the humans sacrifices themselves by bringing a Xenomorph onboard the ship, as an act of sabotage (like purposefully infecting themselves). This would be an ironic nod to the AvP team-up trope, with the humans effectively "joining forces" with the Xenomorph. Obviously not truly as allies as this Xenomorph would be unleashed as a weapon to turn the tide against the Predators, emphasizing the humans' desperation rather than any sort of alliance.

Exactly, I have been saying this for a while now. Your logic - to me, is the accurate stance for Predator. The humanizing storylines, the team ups, the hero arch personalize Predator to much and consequently retiring what has been established before.

On the "bright side" this Predator will live, most likely, are you not tired of them being ratio'd?

Aside from the implications of Predator 2/Predators/Prey's ending.

Yeah agree on that, I mean the fearsome hunter at least from what we have seen in the films that matter always loses to the lesser human prey, at some point you would think these intelligent hunters would get the point that they aren't the superior species...
