As much as I would love an AVP movie taking place in space, a Predator movie in space would be quite welcome to me. We got that in Predators, but the world felt very Earth-like. We only found out it was an alien world thanks to the sky.

Fact is there will be a lot of room for Dan and his team to establish this films future setting. Creating atmosphere, ambience, tech, iconic architecture and design, which could become a part of future set Predator films. Think how Aliens has a consistent atmosphere and setting - the way ships look, corridors, computers, technology, architecture, etc.

I'm still wondering if this film's iteration of the future might just be the Alien iteration of the future.

Granted, I'm also wondering if the leads are even human to begin with...

All I know is, if we aren't on Earth, I want to see a Predator hunting some local fauna. Commit to that in a way that Predators didn't!

Aye! give me Transhumans every day; people who have been artificially enhanced with mental and / or physical abilities beyond what is considered normal for the human species from an evolutionary standpoint.

Sometimes I wonder what Presator² would be like in a cyberpunk setting with gangs of criminals modifying their bodies with all kinds of cybernetic implants.

I hear you, I personally would prefer a couple more Predator films that used the Winston design and followed the original formula from the 87' film, with the stalking, cunning patience of JH, that quiet dominance. After that, I would be open to a futuristic neo-noir/ blade runner-esqe type of vibe.

With the new behind the scenes, seems like it's going to be a future offworld planet. I just hope that the planet has actual interesting world building that isn't just a world with an extra moon or two suns. Don't get lazy with it, its a whole new world, why not make something interesting with it! Why I hated Predators and how lazy it gotten with the concept of a hunting planet but nothing noteworthy of interest besides a few set pieces.

Yeah if they are going that route here, then yes you're exactly right.

Most importantly, for a Predator film to work properly the environment is just as important as the Predator. The environment is a main character itself, a protagonist and antagonist to which the prey and hunter all interact and have to deal with.

The established setting and environment within the story is what sets the tone for the film and gives personality to the mysterious predator without having to explain anything to the audience.
