Quote from: StrangeShape on Feb 14, 2025, 03:36:04 PMI have just watched it for the first time 2 days ago. Im a fan of Predator since Predator 2 came out, so why on Earth would I miss watching a new Predator movie when it came out? Two reasons
1. The laughably bad Predator design. Holy cow, thats so bad it made me laugh. Ive never seen a bigger design downgrade in history of cinema. There are no words to describe how bad and awful that design is, especially without the helmet. There was no way I could take the movie seriously with something so silly and awful. I was never a fan of ADI designs, but that only cemented my opinion that while theyre good suit and effect makers, theyre some of the worst if not the worst big league designers
2. The Predators was so bad I lost any faith in the mythology, sort of like I did after what Scott did to Alien with Covenant, but Romulus brought me back.
So I did try Prey finally and I gotta say Im pleasantly surprised. i didnt think a movie set in this time period could stretch into a full lenght film but it sure worked and was very interesting to watch. Other than the "post car accident" Predator design and a very obvious CGI, I have no criticism
ADI acts primarily according to instructions.
They make suggestions but ultimately the director decides what is made or used.
I once asked Tom Woodruff why the aliens became "fatter" and less aesthetically pleasing, like AvP-R, for example, and he said that it was decided by the directors.
They wanted the aliens to be more massive and muscular, like they appear in some comics.
In addition, there is the situation, as I already mentioned in another thread, that it generally looks increasingly cheaper.
For whatever reason.
The aliens became more and more like thick-lipped, horse-toothed dinosaurs and Feral, well.
In my opinion, ADI did their best design work on Alien 3.
The animatronic Bishop and Doggy are awesome.
I really liked that.
