We three (me and my roommate couple, all fine art student friends) watched Prey, they did enjoy it, but came away with big critiques, said it felt simplistic, the tone felt conflicted with itself at times, and found Naru the epitome of that approach. I totally agree to be honest. But they also agreed with me, when I said it is Predator for kids, in a good way. Does not talk down to them, it is much like a storybook.
I still enjoy it, but do not quite ride the high from the release, and just being a nuisance to the cynical.
I hope Dan Trachtenburg shows more ambition with Predator Badlands, a deeper story, a more distinct vision, heat or otherwise.
