Staff edit - ikarop: We can reveal that the trailer was crafted by Axis Animation in a team effort with Gearbox and Sega. You may remember them from this highly acclaimed (http://www.youtube.com/v/0_KBtOVx-x0) cinematic trailer for Dead Island. The studio has exclusively commented on this first part of the trailer for us. Read it all below:
"We were incredibly excited when approached by advertising agency Uber and their client Sega about Aliens: Colonial Marines. There is hardly a person in Axis who isn't an Alien fan, from the finance department to the animation team everyone loves the franchise.
The idea for the trailer is challenging creatively and from a technical point of view but this is something that director Stu Aitken is well known being able to make happen. Finding the right balance between tension and action is the key to this piece and so far Stu has struck it just right.
The Axis team have been given a lot of guidance by both Gearbox and Sega to ensure everything is spot on for the Alien franchise, attention to every detail is very important in every project we do but especially here.
We really can't wait to push forward with the continued work we are doing on the project, we look forward to more great reactions to what is coming next!"

A nice video, but the combat looked absolutely retarded with marines blasting away at moron xenos two feet in front of their face. I know it's only a CG vid, but I can't help but notice. Hope it's not indicative of actual gameplay.

Ok so the trailer wasnt as good as i hoped, but it wasnt bad either. Granted they used CGI for the trailer and it wont hold some people over, but most anticipated games use CGI trailers to announce their still going on with the game. The 5 month delay, admittedly, pissed me off to some extent, but at least their putting more thought into the game. Hopefully it wont end up as another DNF project with a supreme build up, but shitty payoff, equalling some pretty pissed off gamers.
However, if it comes to my ears that their pulling the project back on another delay after this one, i will proudly say i've lost Hope/Interest/Concernability/Anticipation for this game.
Either way, i say this for everyone:
Gearbox, Randy Pitchford & Sega, You better not f**k this up.

I'm with most everybody, I really enjoyed the music. Very excited to hear creepy instead of lame action.
I did like when the marine dropped the motion tracker. I know its a small thing but I thought it was a nice touch. they could have gone another way where they put it away costing valuable time instead of instantly leveling his pulse rifle and firing. and yes I am very disappointed that the game has been pushed back but I hope this is to give us the best game possible and not so they can push borderlands 2 or furious whatever out first.

I wonder if the multiplayer will do a racoon city and pitch 2 opposing teams against each other in team based objectives but with xeno related monsters running around :)

I downloaded a hd 12 min gameplay trailer off the psn that i watched on my 32inch hd tv........... Dont know what certain ppl mean when they describe the gameplay because to me it looked like a genuine aliens game........f**king amazing how the xeno"s flood into the rooms and more so watching how they move accross the powerloader and take him down.....

I really loved the style of that trailer, even though a pre-rendered cinematic isn't as interesting to me as live gameplay.

At the first sign of trouble Sega bails and delivers a shit product. Delaying for 3 years is also a sign that there are some serious troubles on the inside going on. I work at a game studio, so I know what to watch for. This does not bode well for ACM. Not at all.

It was a beta test that they very sneakely made us fund ( which im ok with) in planning for the production of acm.......

I get an awful pong of Gears Of War of that trailer,dont get me wrong,im going to play the shit out of this game.The song from moon was also meh.
The Moon song is fantastic but it loses its atmosphere or impact when it's cut short to a minute. Still great use of it in the trailer regardless, though.

I cant believe they are announcing a delay to the game at the same time as they release a waste of time pre-rendered trailer that shows no gameplay. I think they need to prioritise their operations and concentrate on the game and not pointless trailer.

this trailer isnt something they just felt like doing, 300,000 later "oh were gonna delay the game again cause we didnt think a almost life like cg trailer was gonna cost that much"
CGI trailers cost a lot of money actually. It would have been cheaper to put together a gameplay trailer, but they probably wanted to invest in something that looks a little sharper and has more impact.
Also if they're response for the delay was that the game design was still in iteration it would be pointless to show gameplay features as they are still in the process of being added or refined. Gameplay you see now could be completely different or gone in the next few months.
I just don't think the gameplay is ready to show yet.

I dont think they wanna use the infestation design. In "Prometheus", the real jockey's body doesnt have the trunk, so...
And i'm thinking that "Prometheus" is the real reason behind this delay. If they used the Space Jockey race at some point of the game, now with the reveal of his real body (tall-blue-bio-mechanic-man), they'll have to change a lot of things there ::)

Good point. Also think of all those people who will watch Prometheus and then want another Alien fix, releasing the game after the movie makes a huge amount of sense from a marketing perspective.

That's a horrible misconception. The aliens in AVP2010 were stronger than the ones in the film for gameplay purposes. Watch Aliens again, even at their fastest speed and agility they are significantly slower than their video game adaptions and take far more damage from small arms fire.
A single burst from a smartgun tears them to pieces, direct rifle fire wounds and kills. When Vaz fired her sidearm she almost incapacitated one before shooting it in the head, watch as it rolls about in the vent.
I think playing too many games on higher difficulty settings plus the fact that a mouse and keyboard offers far greater twitch reaction without consuming energy etc has given you a misconception.
Aliens will be slaughtered in direct assaults, always have been.
Go load up AVP/2/2010 and stand still everytime you fire at enemies, Hudson did that and only an Alien from a vent got him, not the body armored ones that leap 10 feet (Games) an ability I've never seen in a film. It's always far more dangerous for NPC's who have more realistic reaction times and agility than a player character.

That's a horrible misconception. The aliens in AVP2010 were stronger than the ones in the film for gameplay purposes. Watch Aliens again, even at their fastest speed and agility they are significantly slower than their video game adaptions and take far more damage from small arms fire.
A single burst from a smartgun tears them to pieces, direct rifle fire wounds and kills. When Vaz fired her sidearm she almost incapacitated one before shooting it in the head, watch as it rolls about in the vent.
I think playing too many games on higher difficulty settings plus the fact that a mouse and keyboard offers far greater twitch reaction without consuming energy etc has given you a misconception.
Aliens will be slaughtered in direct assaults, always have been.
Go load up AVP/2/2010 and stand still everytime you fire at enemies, Hudson did that and only an Alien from a vent got him, not the body armored ones that leap 10 feet (Games) an ability I've never seen in a film. It's always far more dangerous for NPC's who have more realistic reaction times and agility than a player character.

Yes, much weaker and slower. Aliens still dart about from wall to wall or cover to cover when shot at, they sometimes walk towards you before being shot to shreads. They don't grasp firepower until they are under fire or already know it's there.Their game counter-parts are balanced to fight Marines, that's the difference.
On the flip side, they should 'grab' players, not scratch them like angry cats. It should be a grip you cannot escape from, QuickTime events where you are pulled under doors, through vents and killed either immedently or slaughtered for a few seconds would be more realistic to the films and add a stronger sense of fear. Being able to kick, wack and shove them in AVP wasn't realistic to the films. Which is interesting because all the NPC's in these games get caught by Aliens and slaughtered quickly but the player does not have to worry about such events.
Back to the trailer in question you'll notice the aliens are attempting to attack Marines head on, some jump off walls or run right up and get cut down. It's true to the film.

I personally agree with this above statement.
Not only would the fear of imediate death add to the difficulty... but it would also add to the horror side of the game which I personally am longing for.
I want to be able to play this game with 4 friends and still worry about checking the corners and not rushing ahead alone. Not getting seperated unless there is a huge reward in the massive risk. I have some friends who are pretty good at co-op and love horror games them self and they all feel the same as me when I want it to be a strong horror.
Chances are this wont happen though because it will be a cinematic experience more than anything.
Hopefully the game can be modded though after release to change certain things like the amount of ammo you carry.
But back to the main point of this. I do believe that the aliens should kill the players as they would the NPC's as well. With either a quick time event or an ally has to get them off of you. With a really short amount of time to get them off you. Like 4-5 seconds maybe. Shooting the alien off if not careful will result in a decent amount of health loss due to the acid blood.
These are just my ideas of how I'd like it to be anyway. Probably Not going to happen but I can hope. ;D

A marine can't kick and block the aliens' claws, that's no lie
However,xenomorph are born to be killers that can adapt an new environment quickly and use it to slay their prey by stealth.
Not some cannon-fodder only run into gunfire and hesitate to let the marines blow their heads off ::)

They launched two assaults, once through what they believed was a safe passage via supply/maintenance tunnels, a second through barricaded corridors where resistance was previously met, and retreated when they sustained enough causalities. They cut power to remove illumination before attempting infiltration to engage the enemy in close quarters combat while flanking and performing ambushes.
That's not cannon fodder, that's infantry tactics.
Look at it this way, it's just a squad of infantry with rifles, grenades, flamethrowers etc against two to three platoons of soldiers with knifes, on speed and suffering from high aggression, who actually 'think' they can win and try various methods to achieve victory.

Drake was killed by an Alien that turned to face another threat, an Alien slowly turns to face newt and Ripley before charging, is the creature analyzing the situation? Burke is only killed once he turns to face the creature. When Vaz and Gorman are about to be killed the creatures slow their pace.
Newt is captured by an Alien, it too pauses briefly.
The other creatures however show different behavior, they don't slow down, they strike swift and suddenly. You can argue that the slower confrontations are used to build dramatic effect but we have already seen the Alien take it's time with it's prey in the
first film so we can conclude the creatures do have various behavior traits. This is however absent from the AI in games.
As for my previous comparison I'm simply stating that these creatures bring knives to gunfights and will be killed as such in direct confrontations, high aggression and speed was as close as human comparison as I could think of. The games balance them to survive direct confrontations with increased speed, armor and leap ability. I would enjoy having random encounters with Aliens that don't leap at you, but slowly approach the player, that hiss at you and for a few seconds you can briefly attempt to interact with it, or at least give the impression that you can, before the creature slaughters you.
That would add far more depth to the creatures and show that they do have personality, as well as being extremely creepy.

Anyway, those comments are really encouraging. I hate the tension I always get from feeling such anticipation for a project, thanks AvP films. :laugh:
At least everyone seems to be very excited about the game and acknowledges what an honor they feel it is. That shows they respect the Alien franchise, at least, so intentions should be best all around.

Still, despite my incessant bitching (read: raging, yonk) I thought the trailer was very creative. It almost reminded me of Assassins Creed: Revelations with the more artistic musical choice. Very much liked it, but was biased since no new gameplay. I'm so ready to play this.

yesterday i took a trek up to my local e.b games and asked if by any small chance they had a copy of avp for the ps3.......he pondered......he looked......he doublechecked........ and found me a used copy for 19bucks (hooray)
i had preordered the game and got it when it was released 2years ago,played it for a bit untill the community kinda fizzled out and then traded it in towards something else.....
now let me just say...........lol :)............FRICKING LOVING IT.
when i played it 2years ago i was a bloodhound prior to its release , searching out every last screenshot and gameplay video, trophykill videos, screenshots of locations and xeno's etc etc ( mostly on this site lol)
pluss it had this massive hype behind it like there was gonna be more than just what we had been shown, which was pretty much everything ...........
but this time there was 0 hype behind me putting that disc in the machine, i hadnt looked at a screenshot or video in close to 2 years, im playing it with fresh pair of eyes and it really is a f**king awesome experience, playing it on hard switching between the marine and pred missions and ive even got to play a few games online ( massive fun)
only now can i see that those devs really did a great job on using only the original alien n pred movies and you can tottally see how much work went into it and given that its almost 2years old it has an awesome retro feel to it with the no crouching and lack of iron sights

Thank you! I've seen this video in 3D a while back, but was too lazy to report it to you guys. When I decided to, the 3D feature was gone. But yeah you guys can see it in a red and blue 3D, has anyone done that successfully?
I did see it in anaglyph 3D, although it was hard to notice this option at first--it just had some text at the bottom that read "3D", and the video converted from 2D to 3D as soon as I selected it. The quality of the 3D is OK but nothing impressive, which made me wonder if the company that's making this game did it or if some Alien fan did on his or her own time with 3D conversion software.
It's just an option Youtube is offering now. Pretty sure you can do the same with any of your videos.
But how does it recognize which parts are supposed to be 3D?
I believe it's just a filter.
I wonder, since they've had nearly 7 years to think about it, will anyone tell us just how a 40 megaton blast left any sign of Hadley's Hope at all, more importantly, how come a bunch of marines can go in completely unprotected from any probable side effects of radiation?? ....and they're STILL calling this a "true sequel". :P
