Hi Guys,
I've searched everywhere for a clear answer on this and stumbled on this forum. I'm hoping someone here can help.
I own the Alien Anthology Blu Ray set and love the special etc.
Is there anything different in the Alien Quadrilogy set as far as special features go?
Or is the Anthology just the Quadrilogy renamed?
Drew
No.
Alien Anthology is the superior version Quadrilogy.
Anthology has more material (maybe a couple of hours worth) and better quality films.
I still think the restoration job (colour changes between the various editions ignored) on Alien is just f**king amazing. It looks like a brand new film.
The 2003 ALIEN QUADRILOGY DVD box set did include an outtake from an alternate version of Brett's death that wasn't carried over to the 2010 ANTHOLOGY Blu-ray set.
This outtake can be found within the "French Twist" featurette - part of the making-of documentary for ALIEN: RESURRECTION.

Ditto on 'Aliens'.
I never thought Aliens was as good as Alien.
IMO the color-timing change for 'Aliens' was pretty fantastic.

The Anthology has considerably more content than the Quadrilogy, and everything from the Quadrilogy is in there.
The only thing I know of that's missing from the Anthology is an alternate audio track for
Alien, but that wasn't in the Quadrilogy either. It's only ever been released on the Alien Legacy box set.

Should that not still be part of the
One Step Beyond documentary in the Anthology? The French Twist chapter is in there. I can't see them editing it for the Blu-ray.
I might be mistaken on this, but I believe the Blu Ray has the full version of Wreckage & Rage (the making of Alien 3), but the DVD has a cut down version.

Is the original ALIEN screenplay with O'Bannon's essay still on the Anthology too?

The outtake (screenshots in my previous post) is not part of the
Anthology set. The outtake has been replaced by the DC version for Brett's death.
If you still own the
Quadrilogy set, I suggest you hang on to it, to collect
all the ALIEN outtakes.

Correct. Fox censored it for its original DVD release, but relented for the Blu-ray set.

The screenplay's listed on there. I've not actually checked it to see if it's the same as it was on the Quadrilogy though.

Interesting. It's been so long since I watched it on DVD I didn't notice that.
Weird.
But I'm glad we eventually got the full version.
Did not want to make another topic so I just going to use this thread if ok. I want to buy all the Alien films on Blu-ray/4K. What collection on e.g. Amazon would you guys go for? What version includes more material and so forth? Cheers in advance.
I owned the quadrilogy on DVD until Blu-ray really took off. The quadrilogy had mountains of content. Now I just watch the Blu-rays for the superior picture and sound quality. And the Alien films on blu-ray look more than gorgeous.
I don't know how much of the bonus content carried over to the Blu-rays, as I haven't really watched any of the bonus discs. I used to enjoy bonus content, but I honestly find it a bit tiresome now.

You would have to get a few various things, in order to maximize getting all of the content and as many films in 4K as possible.
Alien: Anthology for the four original films on Blu-ray plus all of the bonus content.
The standalone Alien 4K release, for the film in 4K.
Prometheus 4K, for the film in 4K.
Prometheus 3D Collector's Edition, for all of the bonus content.
Alien Covenant 4K, which does contain all of the bonus content.
Unfortunately, Aliens, Alien 3, and Alien: Resurrection do not yet have 4K releases.
Hang onto the old ALIEN QUADRILOGY DVD set for the *original aspect ratio for the documentaries - and the one exclusive ALIEN outtake (from Brett's death, found in the feature-length documentary on ALIEN: RESURRECTION) that was mysteriously dropped and replaced for the BD ALIEN ANTHOLOGY set.
*The documentaries have been cropped (badly) for the ALIEN ANTHOLOGY set.

Nightmare's list is basically it, but if you're in the UK they additionally did a set that combined the Anthology box set and the
Prometheus 3D set. Was called
Alien to Prometheus: The Evolution, or something like that. No idea what it goes for now but it might save a little on cost/clutter getting all of that stuff in one go.
The only other thing you might want to consider is the original DVD release of
Alien (available either separately or as part of the
Alien Legacy set) because that came with an alternate audio track for
Alien that has never been released anywhere else.
You'll also need THE ALIEN SAGA DVD release from 2001 (R1 NTSC). It includes the ALIEN Sigourney Weaver screen tests and interviews at the time (1985) with ALIENS cast members - not found in either the Quadrilogy nor Anthology sets.
4K it is.
Thanks so much guys for your input, it has really helped me out. Cheers!
