Woa! cool find! :)
I'm assuming that's the Elder Engineer from the opening before it was pared down for the theatrical cut?
Yeah, I...am glad they cut the one that looks like Hume Cronyn in Cocoon. It's a bit much right out the gate. Maybe in the sequel - and it looks goofy as a naturally-lit photo out of context.
Anyone got the photos for those of us who don't Facebook?

Those costume shots in that gallery are too cool...nice Weyland makeup photos too.
It's really cool to see how they did it and to have these photos.
Maybe we'll get the original scene on the DVD/Bluray release. The chosen version is good, maybe having the elder engineer would have lessened the impact of the beginning. But I think that in Paradise - or whatever will be the name of the sequel - we'll get to see the elder ones. :)

The commercial continues!
I think I'd prefer the elders a) not looking like Hume Cronyn or Jessica Tandy and b) not wearing those Planet of the Apes robes.
But it depends on how they look on film, obviously.
HOLY SHIT these are amazing! he's so f**king creepy standing next to the 'normal' humans hahahah
amazing costume and makeup job
and Weylands makeup looks better in these photos, the HD ruins it
Awesome Elder Engineer. Hopefully they come out in a sequel, or possibly in the extended cut of the film.
This is great. Thank you big time for sharing
I'm gunna go watch this again...
I dunno why, but the elder Engineer kinda reminds me of this dude from Star Trek 5...

It's just when I first saw him, the way he looks, I instantly was reminded of that guy from Trek 5.
Thanks for sharing those pictures. Man, he does look big when standing next to Ridley, lol.
He does have a rubbery look, but on film he does manage to pull a very Greek/Giger-ish god like figure.
I really like how the engineers look different in a very subtle manner...the one in the films opening looked very Greek god-eque, and the "last engineer" had a thinner face and a thinner, almost beakier nose.
lol is this for real or what. Ridley scott compeltely ruined the mystery of space jockeys in alien, just like i knew it would when 1st heard about the direction this was going in. I was annoyed that they were going to look and act so human like... well was worse than i thought... because they were humans all along... awful concept, but whats done is done. Hope thats it now.

The Elder engineer looks like one of the fish-man hybrid Elder gods who founded Atlantis in the Greek myths. Very cool i love how he's all weird looking like that. Some of the Titans/Elder gods are depicted as hybrid fish beings. Particularly the ones involved in the creation of Atlantis. A group of tall white beings who look like us, but were said to precede us, come from an island, and have contact with some of our oldest civilizations that then speak of them in their myths. '10 000 BC' said it best with something like "some people say they come from the stars or skies, others say the ocean". I think it's a bit of both. They may have started the Atlantean kingdom that inevitably dies out and falls into the ocean.
Wow, and all this time I thought the Engineer at the water fall was CGI. Screw all the trolls who think Peter Weyland makeup is bad. People need to Google old people over 100yrs old. Too bad, I was hoping for the Elder to look something similar to the concept that we saw. I am no longer that interested to seeing the longer opening scene if that's the Elder.
Wow, they actually shot the old Jock?

Do you like to bitch, nit pick about every single thing about the movie? I'm also disappointed about the movie but you don't see me acting like some sort of "mister know it all" like you. You have to come in to every single thread and start your stupid broken record with your negativity. Guys like you gets on peoples nerves and anyone is to blame but yourself with your arrogance.

+1
Someone should make this into a sticky.
This looks preposterously like Star Trek. It reminds me of Spock being ritualistically initiated to some superior knowlege, or mindstate, in an early scene of STTMP.
The previzzed scene in the art of Prometheus book appeared more convincing. Is there a J.J. Abrams lurking in the shadows ? Ridley Scott's gray eminence ? Are we going to assist to a merger of those two franchises ?
I thought of Voldermort myself.
Thanks for sharing OP.
I kinda liked the idea that the ship was hauling ass before the sacrifice. I don't know if it will feel the same to know there's an elder engineer just off camera in his Star Trek robes.

However, the elders presence does sort of mirror Weylands plight of risking everyone's life to prolong his own.

This was my first impression. Something from Star Trek. Not that I had an exact scene in mind just that I thought I'd seen something similar before in that series.
I do like the opening as it is. I hope he doesn't tinker with that part. Actually it was probably one of the best parts of the movie.
Thanks for sharing these. They are great!
I guess Ridley liked Altered Beast ;D

I love all the biomechanic details
Those pics confirm the idea that the suit has grown from or is connected to the skin.
I think it is a good decision to maintain air of mystery with the White Beings/Space Jockeys by not explaining them too much. In case of PROMETHEUS, the film does what others have failed: show instead of tell. Too many films suffer from over exposition, and sometimes you can hear the audience groan and complains. With the wordless, beguiling, awe-inspiring introduction of the White Beings, audience is more willing to immerse themselves in the story. Having said that, the proposed scene where the Elder blesses the Younger Engineer should be included. It will pay off near the end where one of the Engineers ruffles David's hair as if to bless him....before he rips his head off.
Interesting parallels with the head rubbing.
I'm not sure if I want to see this scene...I liked the theatrical version so much, but who knows, I might like the longer version even better. They must have filmed it. I remember an older "leaked trailer" description, with a waterfall, and 2 cloaked figures...
Please let there be an extended cut on the blu-ray

Wait, I thought it was confirmed or was Ridley Scott just thinking about adding the 20 minutes that was cut for the theatrical release?

If I recall correctly, there's going to be about 30 extra minutes on the Blu Ray, but he's only adding 20 of those minutes directly into the film.

That's lame. I thought they were all almost the same, like identical twins. And that they didnt age. All near-immortal, self-made Gods. But nooooooo... stupid priest.

Interesting example of passive-aggressive behaviour. All NGR01 did was ask you to leave out the unprovoked attacks and you responded by... Attacking.

Thats a bad thing? This i can accept as being behind the elephant suit. not the Quan Chi from Mortal Kombat we got.

If only they had left the elders in the first scene, it would have been clear to everyone that it was a sacrificial ceremony. Nobody would have speculated about a rogue engineer being punished.

9 Engineers huh? All looking rather druid.
The elder engineers should have been left in the movie
I dunno. I think that less is more in this situation. He really felt isolated, left alone, looking at his departing ship. Make it a ceremony, and... I don't know. It seems too obvious. It would have cleared up some things, but at the same time, I'm ok with there being specuation. I prefer the mystery. One guy does it alone, you wonder what it's about, who the others are who fy away in the ship, etc. Otherwise, it's "Aliens made life on Earth- specifically, that group of dudes."
I agree with Alienseseses. While I wouldn't mind seeing the extended version as a deleted scene, I think I would prefer the more ambiguous, personal version used in the theatrical version. Like the Shaw vs Engineer fight from the end, I hope that the smaller version is what goes into the Director's Cut.
