I have and there is a trick. It is possible to go through the levels and not get caught by the alien but you have to stay off its radar. I've gone a few levels before it got wise that I've been around a while. Because its adapting A.I, it needs to know your around first before it starts checking vents, lockers ETC. Otherwise, as long as your quiet, it mainly stays in the vents. I made to the second part of medical before I made a loud sound and it started stalking me non-stop.

Sorry to throw it in but the game is horribly cheap now. Great present to ANYONE.

Played through on Regular first, then played through on Nightmare and found it a cake walk. Alien never gave me any trouble, the only part that was in anyway irksome was after ejecting the first Stompy into space and having to deal with those Joes with limited tools and ammunition.

I honestly just don't believe you.

Take your time, think things through and take advantage of scripted behaviour. I found regular quite hard, but I was new to the game and often playing as though it were a run n' gun FPS rather than a stealth game. When playing on Nightmare I'd already learnt from my mistakes and played appropriatly. It really isn't a hard game at all.

Don't they also climb into these once in a while, like, once in a million times? Pretty sure I had that happening to me on Normal.

Into vents, yes, but not into the holes in the hivewall. I've sat there shooting at the Aliens and they just walk off in an indignant huff.

SO yeah the nightmare no map thing, can you still see objectives on the motion tracker?

Yes, the MT still points you in the right direction.

Yeah, I just finished it recently. Still a great game, but I don't like the way the Alien acts in some parts. For example, I never cared for the Alien screaming when he sees you. It came off goofy to me. The suspense the game has is excellent though. I'll probably play it again the next couple of years.

Never tried it on Nightmare. Only normal for me.

They can if you're close to the opening and the mood takes them. But the tunnels do act as a safe zone for the most part.

Pretty sure I've been yanked out of those little tunnels before.  :-\

The hive section was interesting, found out that the Aliens can't follow you into any of the holes and that made it ridiculously easy but also allowed for some messing around. Smacking walls with the wrench and then ducking into a hole as the Aliens come running and just sticking out your tongue and going "Nyah nyah!" XD

I started again the other night, mainly to show my gf the game. I started on nightmare... I have no problem with difficult games (I have platinum-ed all souls games :-s) but the lack of a map is a bit worrying.

I'm not sure I can remember my way through the game well enough to not have a map for the objectives etc. How did people deal with that? Was it just a case of remembering where to go?

I just completed Nightmare, and you don't have to save materials/ammo, it just makes it easier if you do so.  Like trying to shoot facehuggers with just your revolver is pretty difficult.  But if you use your materials/ammo, you have to make it count (ie:  be extremely resourceful).  There is no good wasting anything on Nightmare mode.

The Alien is actually pretty easy to deal with once you know where to go and what you're doing (save points definitely help).

The Androids in the level with the reactors are a pain in the ####.  I had one bolt gun ammo, managed to take one down with that, another with the shotgun and another via molotov + pistol.  Took forever doing that part.
