No.

The new RPG unfortunately references the stupid malakak name for them:
QuoteHieroglyphic tablets unearthed on Tanaka 5 call them Ossians. The decoded Derelict beacon on LV-426 made reference to the Mala'kak.
However I kinda like "Ossians", it's just very Warhammer sounding. My preferred option is still:

I just think of them as the book presented them, (mis) translations. We really don't know.

What if Ossians are the Engineers, and malakak is the biomecanoid from LV-426. I.e a different species as the RPG seems to suggest. With that in mind, the original mystery remains.

Yuk! Mala'kak sound awfully like a Star Wars name. But, Ossians sounds a little better indded
Funnily enough the term "Ossian" is in KOTOR:TSL referencing a group of Jedi Librarians. But perhaps it's actually a reference to the plagiarist of 12th Century Irish poetry. The Engineers- plagiarists huh?

I just assumed it was a pun about bones, but I wouldn't put that past the type of very clever nerd who makes an RPG.

Thanks for enlightening me! 8) it would cleverly enough to fit with the 19th century literature references presented in Covenant. Also, David mentions learning of the *cough cough* Ossian *cough cough* ways ;D
That being said, at least through the RPG one can fantasize that Engineers are cosplayers of the real deal ;)
I spoke to Andrew and he believed it was from here: https://alienencyclopedia.wordpress.com/ but I can't find it.
Xenopedia references them once too, but is marked as citation needed.

Nooice! I'm totally embracing the idea of the Engineers mimicking the Jockeys. Although it could have been worse, much worse! Something like David being the Space Jockey

Well, on the one hand that is what happens when a robot kisses another robot who is identical to him.

That's hilarious, I love it. Those are the kinds of obscure references I like to see, like Mortal Kombat X's Predator referencing the Hish.
Of course you love it. lol
But yeah, the book treats it as one of several names.
I believe they refer to themselves as the Brotherhood of Evil Space Jockeys.
Ahaha, that name's so ridiculous considering the group's cause in the graphic novel.
Hey, it used to work for Magneto.
Who I was referring to.
Which graphic novel were you referring to?
X-Men The first issue onwards.
Back on topic: It's hard to imagine what they might call themselves when we never even hear them speak.
I do think that the terminology in the old Alien Dark Horse series is ridiculous though.
"Mala'kak" was a typical 90s attempt at a generic alien-sounding name, right down to the obligatory apostrophe.
Original Sin came out in 2005.
Then I totally recant what I just said.
I wonder where the Mundus Gubernavi comes from.

Looks like Latin so I doubt that's what they'd call themselves.
Then it must be something made by human researchers in order to classify them, such as in the case with the Alien : Lingua foeda acheronsis, Internecivus raptus.

I never had a problem with either of those, to be honest.
Just calling them aliens or xenomorphs is enough.

Can you make them both fit?
Different terminology for different purposes ("human" vs "homo sapien"), or one was an "in house" name used by one group, or one was an early name that was later discarded in favor of another taxonomy for whatever reason. That's off the top of my head.

Shaw calls them Engineers (the big bald guys). Engineers probably call themselves human (given that's what they are).

Yes the Engineers are "humans" since they are genetically equivalent to us. But that is not their name. We invented the word "human." We came later. I would say that we are whatever they are. They are the original blueprint. We are just copies of them in the Alien universe context. Just as an example (don't take it so seriously) I'd say that we are the mini-me of the "Ossians". The human concept is coming from creatures that began to exist after the Engineers, which is also word invented by us for the sake of give them a name.
Just call them Malakas.

Never one to shy away from exposing my own idiocy, I just discovered that the name was probably derived from "mal'ak ha-mashḥit," which is Hebrew for "destroying angel." I checked the Xenopedia, but I didn't see any notes there pointing it out.
https://aliens.fandom.com/wiki/Mala%27kak
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destroying_angel_(Bible) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destroying_angel_(Bible))
Or is this common knowledge and I was just super late to the party?
Did not know that, but I like it, especially with Ridley Scott's comparison to fallen angels.
I didn't know this either. 8)
Why didn't SM tell us?!
You told yourself, malaka.
We're all floundering in ignorance while you sit atop a trove of secret knowledge.
How do the Engineers call themselves?
With flutes, of course.
According to a third definition in the Urban Dictionary, Malaka is a slang for "Master Masturbater" ~

I bet an Engineer became addicted to masturbation. Then he turned his penis into a cyborg. He stopped eating, he stopped going to the bathroom, to school; he gave up everything to masturbate. He even grew out of the chair. :-X
So that's why there was so many black goo jars huh
Yup, just rancid cum jars. They probably have anime or pony figures inside them.

"I understand more than you could possibly know."
I think the Engineer in Aliens: Steel Egg called himself Larry if I'm not mistaken.
Might have been a race similar to the Engineers though.
They were Giffs, but yeah one of them called himself Larry.
I think at some point the original Space Jockey race got tired of being ridiculed in comics.

My view is not exactly canon but while I don't know what the Engineers call themselves in their own language, imo David would be able to ask an Engineer what they call themselves in their own language.
My source is the deleted scene from Prometheus called "The Engineer Speaks".
The Engineer's language for the movie was developed by an expert. It is a Proto Indo-European language. It is spoken by David early in Prometheus.
;)
Isn't there a bootleg Proto-Indo-European manual based on Prometheus on Amazon?
