Fox have now announced that in addition to their 20th Century Fox World theme park and resort being constructed in Malaysia, they will also be building another park in Dubai.
"Add Fox to the growing list of Hollywood studios that see expanding opportunities in theme parks, especially overseas. It announced this morning plans to introduce a park and resort — 20th Century Fox World, Dubai — in 2018 as part of a deal with Al Ahli Holding Group.
Attractions will be based on Fox properties including Ice Age, Rio, Planet Of The Apes, Aliens, Predator, Night At The Museum, Titanic, The Simpsons, and Sons Of Anarchy.
This will be the studio's second theme park; one in Malaysia is now scheduled to open in 2017. But Dubai will have the first Fox-branded resort. The arrangement with Al Ahli provides for up to three additional Fox-branded resorts outside Dubai."
Specific details of the rides are unknown but is has been reported on numerous occasions that Alien/vs/Predator themed attractions will be there. A sneak preview for the Genting, Malaysia park even shows a massive Derelict ship. The opening of the Malaysian park is currently scheduled for 2017, a delay from the of 2016 as previously announced. The Dubai resort is due to be opened in 2018.
What do you guys think? Are you planning on going to 20th Century Fox World? Thanks to Willie Goldman of Aliens Collection for letting us know.
Why Dubai and Malaysia?
Money, I assume. Perhaps they got a better deal to construct over there.
Haven't we known about this for a few years now? I mean we've seen the concept art for the theme park before. I've seen it on a thread somewhere on the forum.
We've known about Malaysia park for a while, the Dubai one is a new announcement. It's all in the original post, Rakai. :) And I don't think we ever front paged the original to be fair so it was a nice opportunity to get both out.
Well, I wonder how their Alien-Predator world will be like.. I mean with the Prometheus movies influencing things, will we see Engineers now walking around, alongside with Predators and Aliens?
I'm sure we will - especially if it's all themed around the Derelict. I have no idea how they'll do a ride though. I'm not a massive (at all) theme park fan so I'm not really up on how they achieve theme outside of decoration.
Only way to find out is if some of us happen to either be living in either Malaysia or Dubai. Or traveling there.
I'm sure we'll see reports and etc. :) If it's not too much I'd like to try and visit, if only for the massive Derelict!
Florida needs this. :) (I'm just saying that cause I want it close to home and Florida loves theme parks ;D ). C'mon Fox, you know you want to!
Disney World, Universal Studios Florida, Paramount London which is in development and now Fox, all these studios are following the trend of investing in amusement parks as a source of profit. Wonder how long until Warner Bros and Sony jump on this band wagon. The question is will these non Disney World/Universal Studios theme parks be successful enough by simply relying on the brand recognition of their franchises?
Warner Brothers already has a theme park, somewhere in Australia I think.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warner_Bros._Movie_World
We have a Harry Potter experience thing in the UK too.
Ah, Haven't heard of it probably because of it being only in Australia. Wondered why Universal Studios has The Wizarding World of Harry Potter if its a Warner's property. Its probably a licensing deal.
Speaking of which James Cameron's Avatar is set to have its own theme park at Disney World, I recon its another licensing matter because its a Fox property. Fox must really be furious that they no longer have shared distribution ownership of the Star Wars franchise with Lucas Film which now belongs to Disney. Supposedly Fox has sole owner ship of the original 1977 film until 2020. Damn it must be a blow for Fox because Star Wars was one of their biggest properties, heck one of their currently successful franchises the X-Men film series is a Marvel property (owned by Disney) and are stuck in a continuous contractual obligation of producing an X-Men movie every few years so the Rights do not revert back to Marvel=Disney. Damn Disney's eliminating the competition by consuming it. :o Anyway here's looking forward to how they'll represent Aliens and Predator attractions at their park.
Wonder if there will be a Leftorium and Monorail ride... ;)
How about a dropship ride? :P
Never. The Alien Queen abdomen rollercoaster ride with a spin in a giant egg, leaping towards the open hanger from the sulaco with Ripleys voice calling: Signing off.
They could go nuts with and Alien theme park. A Dropship ride. An escape Hadley's Hope rollercoaster, that's ends at the Sulaco. A Fiorina Maze. An updated version of Alien War. If I was a Millionaire id go lol
I'm still waiting a brand new licensed Alien War.
That would be awesome (imagine running through Fury 161)
Fiorina 161 is a desolate, mournful landscape full of parasites and emptiness. The prison (former mine) would be scary as hell; Especially since nothing works there, just having a candle or half ass flashlight!
I guess no one got my Simpsons references in an earlier post. :(

To elaborate on my Simpsons post: The Leftorium is Ned Flanders' store in which everything is left handed and the Monorail was an episode in which the town invested millions on a poorly built one rail train, in which everyone almost died bc of no brakes. Come on guys. ::)
Ooohhh. You were trying to be funny with the Simpsons stuff? :P

You can count me out!
last week i found a asian forum with current pictures of the park being constructed ... now i can't track it down. it was pretty interesting, bummed that i can't find it to share with you guys
Man, why do they always pick these super far away locations! Wish they'd build it here in the US. I'd go. That would be a fun trip.

They would make a lot of money as well not everyone in Asia knows about AVP or can afford it.
So apparently this is still happening (https://www.avpgalaxy.net/2018/09/13/20th-century-fox-world-malaysia-construction-update-for-alien-predator-attractions/).
Everything is already there in Genting Highlands in terms of infrastructure (hotels, theme park); this sounds like a complete refurb.
I remember this was announced back in 2014 or 15, and we were in Singapore at the end of 2015 into 2016 and was hoping to get up to KL. First Born got Dengue and got stuck in hospital for a week which put paid to any ideas about seeing if this was going anywhere.
Glad to see this is still happening. I'm a tiny bit disappointed it's looking like a traditional attraction - mostly because I hate rollercoasters and stuff - was hoping it'd be some sort of interactive thing.

Agreed, really hope it's not just traditional coasters and other such thrill rides with logos stamped on. They really should have some kind of dark ride with animatronic characters.
Looks like the Fox World Store is already open at RWG, you can see some Alien and Predator merchandise, other than the NECA toys, I can't say I've seen those items anywhere else.
Definitely going to snag me an AVPR shot glass should I ever make my way out there.

That is cool but so far away.
Yeah I spotted those too, I like the design
Why the hell do they make these places so far away :-

Not surprising News.
Theme parks based on intellectual property and corporate strategy is high risk, low yield exercises. Get the balance right and you'd be raking in Millions per day (as Disney's heyday attested). Get the mix wrong and you can bankrupt the parent company and devalue the brand (as Paramount land attested).
Look at the YouTuber who did the "Defunctland" video series (who started by reviewing retro, commercially successful rides), but then went onto post mortems of failed expansions and lost millions- or theme park park closures.
As much as I love Xenomorphs and Predators- I wouldn't bank on a million dollar theme park.
An ALIEN- WAR like they had at the Trocadero London in the early 90s is more suited.
An Alien part of a theme park would be so fun!
Would be so cool to recreate the Nostromo that you can walk around.
I would give my left nut for a an Alien and Predator themed park. Especially since here in FL the alien is gone and so is The Great Movie ride... :(
Are you far from Alien: Descent?
I live about 20 miles away from it. Never even knew it existed before now.
You must make a pilgrimage brother.
I can't be arsed. It's my version of Hicks and that beach from Alien 3.
20 miles is a trip down the road. lol 20/30 minutes away. That's a ride to work for me.

That's even farther away. Through LA traffic.
What if there's an alien skull there that needs to be destroyed?
I'd probably only go as far as creating a ruckus, but stop short of actual destruction of property.
Good. Ridley's done enough destruction to Alien property already.

aims and Answers: Three juicy tidbits from the Genting-Fox-Disney lawsuit (https://themedreality.wordpress.com/2019/03/29/claims-and-answers-three-juicy-tidbits-from-the-genting-fox-disney-lawsuit/)
QuoteIn its countersuit, Fox attempts to show that Genting did not understand the intellectual properties it was working with. Among its examples: the Alien vs Predator Dance Show.
Fox states: "Demonstrating how little thought it gave to the integrity of Fox's intellectual property, Genting proposed taking some of Fox's most significant science fiction film properties— Alien, Predator, and Alien vs. Predator—and using the main characters in a cruise ship-style dance show, featuring a dancing Alien and Predator."
But in its answer to the claim, Genting says the show wasn't its idea: "[Genting] never proposed having a dancing Alien or a dancing Predator in a 'cruise ship-style dance show.' Rather, it was Fox that suggested 'a stylized costumed Colonial Marines, Predators, and Aliens dance show,' including that 'Predators then perform a 'dance' circle outside of the circle of Marines.' Accordingly, [Genting] designed a show in which the Colonial Marines would simulate action/fight scenes involving two Predators and an Alien. Moreover, it was Fox that demonstrated a lack of understanding as to how its own IP should be represented, as Fox requested significant changes to the show concept it had already approved and its representatives gave conflicting guidance as to what they wanted to see in the show. For example, one Fox representative instructed [Genting] to '[a]dd some comic guest interaction between Colonial Marines and guests,' while a few months later, another Fox representative countermanded that instruction, stating that '[c]omedy is off brand from the properties (not comedic movies).' These types of mixed messages from Fox, along with the aforementioned bad-faith Fox conduct in connection with the approval process—not [Genting]'s actions—caused the delays about which Fox complains."
Yikes.
Its like Giler is back in charge

You can get a good view of the Alien area (Not seeing any Predator or AVP elements) in this video:
I count four rides in the zone, the main one likely being the large building with the orange track going into it.
Still, who knows how this will all end up considering the massive lawsuit.
Though the park remains under construction, the gift shop is open, here are some shots of the Alien and Predator merchandise.

Apparently the lawsuit regarding the park has been settled...
"As part of the deal, Genting Malaysia said a new memorandum of agreement grants it "a license to use certain Fox intellectual properties" for the park, though which ones were not specified. It is updating plans to "complete the outdoor theme park utilising both Fox and non Fox intellectual properties," it said. The outdoor theme park also is getting a new name."

I'm glad a resolution was found that allows for Genting to use some of the Fox properties they were planning to. Given some of the recent construction updates, my guess is the Alien franchise will remain as part of the park.

Yeah, Alien works much better in a dark ride format than a coaster one I think. Hopefully the indoor segment will include some animatronics.
Seems like a good place to have the Alien: Descent as a permanent feature.

Though Im waiting for it to be added to a Disney world or something now lol
As someone who suffers from motion sickness if said motion is too extreme, and thus isn't a big fan of rollercoasters, that Aliens/AVP Dubai dark ride sounds like exactly the sort of thing I'd want to see from a ride based on these franchises! I love dark rides and Spider-Man and Transformers are two of my absolute favourite theme park rides period, so an Alien ride using that same system would have been amazing; so of course it's no longer happening. :(
Granted it's not like I ever would have flown out to Dubai to ride it even if it had been built, but it sucks that yet again another Alien ride came so close to existing only to be cancelled.
One day.....one day......
Oh man - i am genuinely gutted about this! I've thought and dreamt about an Aliens inspired theme park land and rides for so long! This would have been epic in so many ways and hoping it'll make an appearance at a Disney???
Side note - nice digging around though! Loved seeing the concept work 👍
Figured this would close.
Also Disney will never bring a rated R attraction to any of their parks.
I assuming guns and scary monsters are the biggest reason.
Here in the States they put on some awesome Halloween haunted houses, with theatrical makeup, etc. That would be a good way to give the hard-core fans the frights they seek, and keep it on an economical scale.
Alien and Predator have both featured at the Horror Mazes that Universal does. I think RidgeTop enjoyed both ones quite a lot.
Brave man! Given my case of creeps playing Isolation on a 55" TV, no way I'm gonna immerse myself into a Horror Maze with the damned creatures! :D

Alien Attractions VS Predator uses the SFX Coaster from the company Dynamic Attractions
Or at least, it would have...
One of the things that potentially sucks about not only these parks having their Aliens and Predator content rolled back, but also just Disney taking over the franchises in general, is I fear we'll never end up seeing either of them get the full-on theme park treatment they deserve.
Just imagine an "Aliens/Predator" land at one of the major parks that was basically a colony compound set in a jungle environment, so you had the Aliens half slowly merging into the Predator half with the appropriate rides and theming in each area. It could be fantastic! A dark ride where you've got to escape an Alien attack, only then Predators show up as well? Other rides too, but I loves me some dark rides, so dark rides!!
But Disney's never going to do a whole area given over to R-rated properties in their parks (we all know how that original Alien/Nostromo pitch turned out, and even then they got rid of The Extra-Terror-Restrial Alien Encounter that it morphed into), and even though it'd literally be money for nothing, I doubt they'd want to licence something that big out to Universal either.
So much potential we'll probably never see fully realised.....

That could've been such a sweet Aliens or AVP ride... The Indoor SFX Coaster reminds me of the Harry Potter Gringotts ride at Universal Florida, though this one looks like it's more intense.
Here's a video showing the concept by Dynamic Attractions, and thanks ahmad_ for pointing this out: http://dynamicattractions.com/products/coasters/
You're making me sad! I guess this will just be some generic space theme now going along with Andromeda Base.
Might've at one time been a pyramid theme on the inside? Seen in this video: https://vimeo.com/477361801?embedded=true&source=vimeo_logo&owner=126765552 We know the Dubai one was going to be a colony setting and more of a motion sim / dark ride hybrid: https://www.avpgalaxy.net/2021/02/27/cancelled-dubai-avp-dark-ride-and-land-revealed-with-concept-art/
I guess it's not a space theme, I managed to ask a question to the head of the theme park on Facebook his name is Greg Pearn he said the theme for sfx coaster is still in the works and it's a secret maybe from Universal IP?
