How difficult is this game?

I'm thinking of buying this game soon, so I wanted to know if this game was difficult or not. Are there multiple difficulty settings?

There's five difficulty levels: Novice, Easy, Normal, Hard and Nightmare.

You're bound to die occasionally to begin with but the game isn't too difficult once you get familiar with how it works.

I played on hard first time through and I think that's probably the way to go. I died quite a lot, especially the first few times the Alien showed up, but it was never frustrating, and the challenge made it all the more enjoyable.

I replayed on easy and thought that was far too simple.

But of course it's all down to personal preference/talent.

If you can be patient, the difficulty on hard is manageable. Not having patience is going to equal frustration though.
