Title: Hiya Toys
Post by: Skulexander on Apr 08, 2014, 02:23:52 AM
A company called Hiya Toys (http://"https://www.facebook.com/Hiyatoys") is making action figures of the aliens from A:CM.

Actually looking forward to these! Yet again, the figures and other merch end up being the cooler than the game!

How very true. I mean, if nothing else, at least we got some cool figures out of that terrible game.

Awesome! you know, say what you will about the game, but the alien designs in it are Awesome! I love that they are getting turned into action figures. how about the Crusher! or Raven?

I actually suggested they make a deluxe crusher figure or the like, and also more alien figures but with the different heads you can get in the game. They say they "may consider it," which is better chances than I could have hoped for. I also just now suggested the Raven as per your suggestion.

I've got all 4 of these little guys on pre-order from BBTS, apparently the Soldier and Lurker are ready to ship so I might tell them to ship my "pile of loot" now, haha.

I also just grabbed the two Play Arts Kai larger-scale Lurker and Spitter figures off ebay for a pretty good deal.

I'm pretty surprised that we're getting such cool merchandise for the game so long after the game actually came out, but I'm really not complaining, haha.

Indeed. It's good to be an action figure collector for the AVP franchise.

I asked on their Facebook page if they had plans for more Colonial Marines figures, and they confirmed that they do. :)

I got the Soldier and Lurker in the mail yesterday, the Soldier is really cool! The detail is good for the size scale, the paint looks good, there's some minor plastic "flash" I could trim off with some model kit tools and the joints are a little bit on the loose side (and it really can't stand up without the base, but I'm okay with that), on the whole I really like it!
At $20+ a pop I'd find it hard to justify "army building" with them in order to have them fight Star Wars or GI Joe guys or something, but I'm glad I dropped the coin to get one of them.

The Lurker is identical to the Soldier, but has a different head and a slightly different paint job. The Soldier has some brown drybrushing on it, and the Lurker is all glossy black. Unfortunately my Lurker was defective - it was totally missing the translucent dome over the top of the head. I'll be mailing it back to BBTS and getting a replacement.

Both figures come with a ton of alternate hands, but they're all so similar to each other that I don't really see the point. They also both come with a to-scale facehugger which is pretty cool, and the Lurker has a closed egg accessory and the Soldier has an open egg accessory.

I'm looking forward to the Spitter and Boiler, especially the Boiler. Based on the production photos it's not a straight "repaint with a new head" like the Lurker/Soldier are, it's actually got different limbs and stuff with the weird boils and growths and whatnot.

Post by: Skulexander on Aug 02, 2014, 11:03:50 PM
Defects are always a pain. It seems more than one company does the straight up repaint with few differences. NECA does that too. Personally, I don't mind, so long as the figures are cool. I preordered the spitter. If I had the money, I woulda ordered them all. Alas, I do not. Let me know how the boiler turns out. I think the spitter and boiler are gonna be the coolest ones.

Post by: Xenomrph on Aug 19, 2014, 02:49:23 AM
I got in the Spitter and Boiler in the mail today, they're pretty cool!

The Spitter reuses a few parts from the Lurker/Soldier, specifically the upper arms (shoulder to elbow), lower legs (feet to first joint), and the abdomen. Everything else is all new, and it stands a bit taller than the Soldier or Lurker as a result. It's a bit top-heavy because of the head, but it's still super-cool.

The Boiler also reuses a few parts - the abdomen, the left leg from the knee down, the right leg from the ankle down, and the right forearm. Other than that, everything else is all new.

The Soldier is still my favorite out of the four, but all four are worth grabbing. I wish the price was a bit lower so it'd be easier for people to "army build" them, but I understand why they cost what they do.

Do you mind asking if they plan to jump on over to the Predator series? I think Hiya Toys could make excellent Predators. These Aliens all look wonderful. Considering getting a few myself.

I'll ask them, but right now they're working with the "Aliens: Colonial Marines" license so it doesn't seem likely.

You may not have to. I saw on their Facebook page, that people are already asking for Predators quite frequently. Hiya Toys has responded with "not yet". But they also said they're pursuing more licenses step by step.

It's kind of remarkable how the merchandising for Colonial Marines has been pretty stellar, even several years after the game's release.

Go figure (did I just make a toy pun?).

Game completely trashes Gearbox, Colonial Marines reputation as a title and is not accepted as canon by anyone and is generally disliked... but give it a little time and use the interesting bits from it and *tada* rekindled interest and sales. Again, I would rather NECA and I am sure they will in time but these will do nicely for now. Surprised that Square Enix didn't tackle them since they did Spitter and Lurker.

When I'm able to find the marines I plan on picking these up with some of their xenos. Their APC from SDCC looks sick.
If only the HT snap kits werent so damn expensive, I'd pick them up to use with these guys.

The Hiya Toys APC just went up for preorder on Big Bad Toy Store. It's $250 which is pretty damn expensive, but it also looks completely incredible. It's got working interior and exterior lights, and it seats a dozen Marines.

Time for another bump. They've shown at this years New York Toy Fair that they're expanding beyond the Aliens: Colonial Marines license. Some Predator figures are in the works.

Also their Raven and Crusher from Colonial Marines are up for preorder on BBTS, I think they both look pretty neat.

Given the size, complexity, and the fact that it lights up and is essentially film-accurate at 1/18 scale, I'm actually not that bothered by the price.

That's actually the reason why Star Wars toys are 3.75" - back in the day, it was prohibitively expensive (both to produce, and for people to purchase) vehicles at the then-common 6" figure scale. So Kenner literally invented the 3.75" scale, because it allowed them to make vehicles to go with their Star Wars figures.

Finally got my City Hunter today. Very happy and I really dig everything about this figure!

My only issues were: the smart disc wouldn't click into the side holster very well but a little glue fixed the hold and I can still remove it. And my figures wristblades came flipped/opposite? So I had to crack open a side of the gauntlet, flip the wristbaldes and glue it back in place but it was a smooth fix and everything is well :)

http://news.toyark.com/2018/02/26/release-dates-set-hiya-toys-aliens-apc-marines-crusher-alien-raven-alien-291133

QuoteIn a short update from Hiya Toys, they have announced releases for a few items that have been in limbo for a while. The big news is that the Aliens 3.75″ Scale APC (Armored Personnel Carrier), which was put on hiatus after lower than expected pre-orders, will be released! The massive carrier is set to be released in August. The vehicle will hold at least 10 Colonial Marines figures, and includes LED light up functions.

For fans waiting to add to their 3.75″ scale figure ranks, it looks like June will be a big month! Anyone who has a number of Hiya Toys items on pre-order will finally see these long delayed figures hit shelves. In the update, they announced that five Aliens: Colonial Marines 3.75″ Scale Figures will be released. Those include Colonial Marines Bella Clarison, Jeremy Cruz and Jennifer Redding as well as the Crusher Alien, and the Raven Alien.

Nice update, thanks Hicks! The APC will be a great item but way expensive for sure I bet.

I'm hoping Hiya releases a preview look at the Neomorph figure if they're still doing any covenant items?

I hope they go with the designs that were present in the final film.
and go easy with the translucency on the domes.

How do these compare to the NECA figures? I know they are about half the size but what about the detail and posability?

I reviewed Hiya Toys' A:CM Boiler figure (http://www.hideousplastic.com/?page_id=2689) some time back.

I expect the quality of these upcoming items to much the same.  Which would be a good thing, actually.

Neca's detail is much better for the price imo. The armor is more accurate and so are the faces on NECA's stuff. Hiya's isn't bad for the scale, but leaves a bit to be desired.

Got it. Won't be jumping over from Neca to Hiya any time soon then. The Colonial Marine game figures are not much of a draw either. Neca was supposed to make them at one point but dropped out probably because of the quality of the game. The APC seems nice though, would be great if Neca made one.

As you could probably guess, I'm quite hype about being able to buy one of my fav xenomorphs c;
I mean yeah he came from a sub par game but The Raven was one of the only stand out sections and I quite like the design/Potential - either way I'd love to know a potential release date if anyone knows round about when that is.

otherwise I just need to buy a grid alien figure and I'll have all my boys (I have 'kane's son' already) kinda sad I'll never see a Six figure, unless there was one I missed aha.

I'll buy raven for sure because I do like him even if the detail is not as great as Neca's
he can sit with my Giger alien, my warrior drone and my red xeno's c:

New pics, Neomorph is a bit of a letdown. Wish it was more screen accurate.
Also, they totally recycled the hands and used them for both figures.

these are slightly cheaper than the neca figures but I wouldn't say they are worth it, however, you get more with them, which is why I bought a few, looking forward to a wolf someday  :P

Word to the wise too, if you want the jungle hunter design from Hiya for a display, don't get the one actually labeled "Jungle Hunter" because it's all reuse of the elder predator body, so you get the straps around the gauntlets etc. Get the "armored captive predator" from "Predators" he looks much more like the original costume and serves me well in my display.

Happy hunting!  ;D

I've never really found the Hiya stuff appealing. I've got Boar and that's it, and that's just because Wyatt Weed was kind enough to sign RidgeTop and I copies after we had the chance to chat to him. But I've got to admit I've really been liking the looks of some of the upcoming releases they have been showing off! If they look as good in person, I think I'm going to be snagging a few!

I'v seen them at a few places. Toronto is an hour and a half from me and there are several collector stores in Niagara as well so its not that hard to find this stuff. I like Hiya and are usually Around $25 but I find that the joints get very loose, it's hard at that scale to have alot of detail and articulation and still be durable, Hiya toys is about the same quality as the Hasbro starwars figures but are a bit more delicate (my covenant xenomorph's wrist snapped while trying to strangle a Jurassic world mercenary) and I have almost bent Batman's gauntlet blades several times.

ya, they're around the same price or cheaper than neca. They're $20-$30 here in canada and neca is usually $30-$50s. It's funny how pricing works, last year I paid the same same price for a 4" and a 20' Batman figure.

They still can't get the leg positioning right. I would've thought the point of doing a four legged version would be to accomodate the knees going forward, not down, but noooo.

The thumbnail shows it for me.

00:26
1:01

It's most noticeable when it's found mauling a prisoner, but that's not in the above. Basically the thing keeps its chest low to the ground, so the legs mostly go forward and out, not down.

Probably pretty difficult to get a figure to be THAT posable, unless they were to use bendy wire, but yeah you'd think if they're making a version specifically for the four-legged positioning they could manage it. Would be nice to get another Kotobukiya statue of their excellent sculpt in that pose though.

Looks like Hiya is doing a similar thing with their Aliens warrior figures as well:

Yeah, I wouldn't expect it to have the range to go from two to four legs in that pose. But since they're changing the neck specifically for that posture, it would've been nice to see them change the legs.

Guessing it's a lot easier to just swap out the head sculpt than half the limbs.

I think ji goe, Starwars and spin master Batman are all around the same scale, I was using a generic Jurassic world mercenary with my Covenant Xenomorph but the wrists broke off. Hiya doesn't seem to be very good quality all the time and I think should be $10 cheaper.

Agreed - NECA has the license to do 6" scale Predator figures (even if they're doing f**k-all with the license right now IMO), I doubt Hiya would be able to do it.

It's the same reason Funko POPs for Marvel and Star Wars are all bobble-heads - Hasbro has the license for "figures" at that scale, and bobble-heads are a sort of loophole work-around that lets Funko make Marvel/Star Wars products at that scale without infringing on Hasbro's license.

NECA has stated that they STILL have the Alien license. But now with Disney owning the rights they've got more hurdles to jump to get approvals.

That doesn't necessarily mean it can't happen. Look at Marvel Legends, MAFEX, and SH Figuarts. All competing for the same market. Adult collector grade. Competition for more 6-7 inch scale Predators is good IMO. I'd like to have a few extra options.

The Raven and Crusher figures are really, really good.

Say what you will about the quality of the game, Colonial Marines spawned some damn fine merchandise.

They look to bulky but that is movie accurate. I have ordered the AvP Requiem alien but I don't think uts out untill the summer. Every other hiya figure I,v had had either broke or had dome error like to left feet or thigh. I wish they sold them at more stores like Walmart and Toysrus because they expensive online and thr shipping. They cost over $30 Canadian in the end and I don't think itsvalays worth it. But I have seen some of the new Starwars figure cost over $30 at places like Walmart and there similar in detail and size so maybe everything is just going up in price.

Gamestop carries them in Canada, of you have one near you. $24.99. They have a few available to pre-order on their site right now. Also check your local comic store. They might carry them as well.

I got the queen Hiya figure and it looks gorgeous. Better even than the picture, in person the flaps on the sides of the crown are not like in the pics.

However when I took it out of the package the right leg broke right off. So much for better QC than Neca..

Hopefully they will replace.

Not a big deal really, still excited for the replacement.

Really happy Hiya made an alien queen that is affordable. I didn't have a queen figure yet and Necas is too big, too heavy, and too expensive for me.

Also there is something very strange with the box too.

This is from Big Bad Toy Store so it has to be legit and not a fake right? However alien is mis-spelled on the box....

It says Aline Queen lol here is a pic

Big Bad Toy Store is great, I order from them all the time.

I don't expect you to have any trouble with a replacement from them.

Yeah the typo is on all of them, it's not bootleg. Not sure how that got past QC.

Glad to see she doesn't have the wider head flaps like in the marketing pics. They also have the Resurrection and AVP queens coming. Think I'll be nabbing one of those.

Is there a list of all alien figures they have released so far?

Would argue revoltechs alien queen is better and necas at the top. Have 2 of them xD This one is too cartoony in its design so rank it 4 with mclanes. But that is just my preference :P

Hmm alien resurrection one, any pictures of it released yet? :)

Thanks for the info, I can't believe they spelled Aline on all the boxes. Someone got fired for that one I bet. BBTS is going to replace and I can keep the broken one also. I just noticed the crown can slide down to sheath the face like in the film, neat.

I can't see how this appears cartoony in any way. It's like a smaller neca queen and looks pretty movie accurate as far as I can tell.

Not a fan of the Revoltech queen at all.

The typo is just on a few Aliens Xenos not their other figures. They're a Chinese company so English probably isn't their strong suit. Their older boxes had a few typos as well. The way I look at it their English is better than my Chinese so you can't be too hard on them.

Got my replacement today. Soon as I touched the arm it busted off at the elbow joint... Thankfully they let me keep the original broken one so I used it for parts and replaced the arm on the new figure.

In the end I'm a little less than satisfied with everything. but I'm also super depressed so hard to get excited about things.

Anyway..

Why can't figures just not break?
Title: Re: Hiya Toys
Post by: VincentVegaFFF on Feb 20, 2022, 06:44:47 PM
That's the issue with the Hiya figures, they can be a scary to move around. The Predators are pretty solid now with the joints but the Aliens feel fragile. I've only had one break on me but broke the instant I touched the leg. Luckily it can be glued but it still shouldn't be breaking.
Title: Re: Hiya Toys
Post by: 426Buddy on Feb 22, 2022, 10:09:12 PM
It's fairly easy to pose, so I like that. The Neca Queen looks heavy and not really easy to change poses based on what I've seen/heard. I was always worried about that when I thought about getting one. I'm pretty happy to finally have a queen figure, for me it's been a long time coming.

I finally got the 'Aliens' Alien Warrior (or as the packaging put it, "ALINE WARRIOR") and so far I'm actually not that impressed. It feels a little delicate, especially compared to other Hiya stuff I've got, even compared to their old 'Colonial Marines' Alien Warrior. The mouth doesn't actually close and looks a little goofy, the alternate set of hands are almost identical to the regular set, and the head articulation in general is kinda questionable.

Maybe I'm being too hard on it, but I was really looking forward to this one, especially since I really like their Colonial Marines version. I figured years of advancements and experience plus being faithful to the movie design would make this a slam dunk.

I got their wolf predator (since neca will never release theirs..) and although it's pretty decent, it's super annoying that you can't put his arms straight down (like their other figures do).

Depends on the quality of the figure, Hot Toys stuff can be totally goddamn fantastic sometimes. $500 is a lot even for a Hot Toys, but it's not unheard of (especially on the secondary market).

The AvP 1 figures had this problem as well, though their other Predator figures didn't. Very strange given Wolf is much thinner in the chest than Scar and the rest.

Just picked up my second Hiya figure, battle damage Celtic. Still in the box for now cause I want to do a display with all the AVP figures. Really the only thing I dislike is the scaling. Annnnd that it's the only way I can get a Celtic figure without spending out the nose for Neca or Hot Toys. Kind of annoying really. Seeing as Hiya has a Grid that's next on my list along with Chopper.

Ordered a Hiya Toys Big Chap on Thursday and it arrived today. QC is horrible. The dome sits crooked and off to the side, and the inner jaw is sideways. Also, extremely loose leg joints.

He's going back, for sure.

I wanted to try out something from their Aliens line, but that was certainly a disappointing first attempt.

Any chance they regain the license this year, considering Romulus?

There's a chance for anything, but I can't see this one happening. They let the license go and didn't really show any signs of extending or renewing it. Hiya doesn't seem interested. But that could always change down the line.

Awe man. As a Prometheus fan, it hurts they didn't bother with that movie. :p At least I have my Neva figures.
