Title: All Ridley Scott
Post by: Immortan Jonesy on May 13, 2020, 10:57:35 PM
Quote from: DeadlinneApple has closed a first-look television deal with Ridley Scott's Scott Free Productions.

Under the multi-year pact, the production company will develop global television projects for Apple TV+. They will be shepherded and executive produced by Ridley Scott and Scott Free's longtime core TV executive team of David Zucker, Clayton Krueger and Jordan Sheehan.

Earlier today, FX and the BBC announced a new adaptation of Charles Dickens classic Great Expectations, from Scott Free, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight and Tom Hardy who also collaborated on the Taboo series.

About some of his old and unmade projects: I liked THE CARTEL, THE FORCE and BATTLE OF BRITAIN. I read He is still Producing All of them but NOT Directing. Ridley Scott had an old project about 3001, the Sci-Fi sequel of 2010 and 2001.

I remember that one coming up years ago, forgot all about it. I would have been pretty curious about that.

Though I, admittedly, have not seen 2010: The Year We Make Contact.

2010 is good but worse than 2001. Another old project is THE FOREVER WAR. A great Sci-Fi novel. Ridley Scott was the perfect choice for THE FOREVER WAR. Ridley Scott or Paul Verhoeven

Disney and Apple would have to work something out, which I don't see happening. If we ever see an Alien series, it'll almost certainly be on Hulu or FX.

Yeah, there is a wee difference between leaving on one's own accord and getting the boot. But keep up the hyperbole.

QuoteAs Emma Watts exits, Disney's former Fox unit will now be the home to some adult dramas and prebranded remakes, plus Hulu or Disney+ titles and four 'Avatar' sequels.

---

After leading a major studio, Watts realized she couldn't stomach the diminishment in power and autonomy that came with running a pared-down fiefdom within Disney, sources close to her tell The Hollywood Reporter. The executive's departure also is a blow to Hollywood's small sorority of female studio executives. Rare among majors, Fox had boasted a deep bench of powerful women in its upper ranks. In the wake of the merger, Watts joins former 20th Century Fox chairman Stacey Snider, former Fox 2000 chief Elizabeth Gabler and former Fox marketing chief Pamela Levine out the door.

Under Disney, 20th will now release about four movies a year theatrically, down from as many as six or seven, and focus equally if not more so on making content for Disney+ and Hulu. Fox's Marvel movies, such as Deadpool, now fall under Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige's purview. For Watts — who worked closely with Ryan Reynolds in bringing the Deadpool series to the big screen and also was behind the larger X-Men franchise — this meant handing over some of her prized projects.

Great Expectations

Alfonso Cuaron's movie is good. But my personal favorite is a 1999 BBC adaptation.

Probably nothing you haven't heard of. They mostly talk about Alien and Blade Runner/ Blade Runner 2049 and surprisingly about ... 1492 which is Nathan's one of Scott's favourite movies. Jaimie from Perfect Organism mentions AVP and Corporal Hicks, who had made podcast with them, regarding lack of Alien in Prometheus and how it impacted Covenant. I recommend it to anyone who likes Scott's movies and Alien universe. This 1 hour and a half podcast just flew by.

Title: Re: All Ridley Scott

Definitely not Gladiator.This is a Fox-Disney project.
Merlin is still possible, but we haven't had any info for a long time. I still have my doubts to see Scott get into in a new saga.
We will surely have something new soon...

https://digismak.com/fran-ferriz-draws-the-universe-of-ridley-scott/ (https://digismak.com/fran-ferriz-draws-the-universe-of-ridley-scott/)

QuoteFerriz assumes this job "very happy and also very afraid" due to the responsibility of being the "concept artist", that is, the person in charge of illustrating and designing "everything that will appear on screen, from sets to costumes, vehicles , a spaceship or a creature so that later in each department they are in charge of making it real; anything that does not exist I have to create.

It already has dates. «My work has to be finished before the end of the year; at the beginning of 2022 they have to start setting up stages, preparing costumes, casting actors ... and if all goes well, shoot in the next year and release in early 2023 ».

This matches the dates of his film Napoleon (Apple TV).
So either Ridley is going to shoot two films next year. Either he's just a producer (maybe the Alien show?)

He mentions a "spaceship". Is he just generalizing or is that specific to this project?

Looking at his work, it's all very cartoonish. Not really someone you'd expect to be hired for something gritty and realistic. Might also be he's attached to something that Scott is producing rather than directing.

Yeah, this whole thing is kinda confusing to me. If you read what he says it sounds like it could be for an Alien film, but then you look at his art.. Like Eighth Passenger said, doesn't seem like the guy they'd hire for this sort of thing.

But he definitely seems to be working on a 20th Century/Disney film, with Scott involved..

He was selected from dozens of artists, so I think he must know how to do something other than his graphic style.
This dude is clearly committed to making a world, so chances are that is something pretty ambitious. Of course, it may have nothing to do with Alien, but we'll find out very soon.

I won't be surprised if Fox-Disney leaves a chance for Ridley Scott to wrap up his trilogy (maybe for Streaming). Basically, Scott had signed a deal to direct two films after Prometheus.

At the investor conference in December he was announced as being part of it, though according to some of Hicks' sources it seems as though that announcement may have been a tad premature on FX/Disney's part.

Thank you for your clarification. BTW ~ What do you think the artist was hired for?

No idea, to be honest -- I would love for it to be an Alien based project (be it the series, or a Ridley Scott-helmed film) but my gut tells me that isn't the case. The thing that springs to mind is the potential that maybe Ridley's Merlin project might be back on? Though that was for Disney proper, not 20th Century Studios...

Given his work as a cartoonist, I was initially wondering if maybe he'd been hired to do in-universe artwork (think like, cartoons graffitied onto armor, or ships, or what have you) like how Hatton and Hallett did all of David's in-universe art pieces for Covenant, but the initial article explicitly refers to him as a concept artist so that seems to not be the case.

Well in that case, I must agree that his art doesn't seem like something one would expect to see in Alien. Not even his Gorillaz-style characters. But it's a Scott project, whatever it is, which for me is an immediate plus. Maybe it's even something original.

I wonder what that Ridley Scott project was that Wayne Haag was working on?

He said it was cancelled but never said what it was.

Quote from: Ridley Scott via Deadline via ComicBook"He is elegant enough to contain his rage and say, what older, wiser man can do this instead of me? So, it's almost Shakespearean, and I think, you know, Joaquin can do anything," the filmmaker told the trade. "So, when he then does something like Joker, there are moments in the Joker that I've never seen before. There are reactions in the Joker which are silly. You can't just say they're not evil. They're coming from a damaged soul. And that's what I'm looking for: What will Joaquin's version of Napoleon be? He will be the painter of his own portrait, and I'll be there to monitor it as best I can because that's what I do."

New lengthy interview with Ridley conducted a week before Christmas

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-features/ridley-scott-interview-the-last-duel-house-of-gucci-1235073041/

Some highlights:

-Gladiator 2 will be about Lucius in North Africa as a twenty-something.

-"They [Disney] wanted me to do a wizard film, and I don't do wizard films. It wasn't a good idea." - Ridley on The Merlin Saga.

-Says he can only drink one bottle of red wine in the evening, two makes him feel sick.

-Did some location scouting for Kitbag on a beach in France.

-He hid under a steel table during WWII when the Germans bombers flew over.

-His ad count is currently at 2000. (subject to change)

-His daughter (Jordan Scott) shot a Tanqueray Gin spot which begins with a nightclub scene in House of Gucci, but doesn't use it's characters.

-Jordan Scott also appeared in Legend. (I suspect she was one of the fairies/elves in the scene where Jack first meets Honeythorn Gump).

Note to Disney, Riddlez is the Alien movie guy, not the wizard movie guy. That's PJ.

Polygon speculates on Ridley's relationship with the new 20th Century Studios under Disney. Although they neglect to mention the interesting fact that Kitbag was originally with 20th/Disney but has now moved over to Apple TV+.

Jordan Scott was a double for Lily in Legend actually.
I heard it in Ridley Scotts commentary.

Its for the wide shot where jack jumps of the cliff and into the water, much like Alien they used younger actors the make the sets look bigger.
He also said he had her on a leash for saftey reasons so she wouldnt fall of the cliff xD

Thanks for that, been wondering about her role in Legend for years. There's one very young looking pixie/elf/whatever in the Jack meets Honeythorn scene that looks red-haired and freckled and I always wondered if that was her.

QuoteI'd much rather see Scott put together an entirely original Merlin or Arthur film rather than adapt a YA series.

I can easily picture him doing something dark and violent like Excalibur -  even although Boorman beat him to it. The young adult, Harry Potter-esque, Merlin Saga does seem a bit of an odd choice for him, even considering he did Legend.

Although admittedly I haven't read the books. Ingwar has so maybe he could say if it would have been a good fit for Ridley.

Yeah, I'd love to see a Merlin film in the spirit of Boorman's Excalibur or Lowery's recent The Green Knight. Ridley could be just the guy for something like that... though that definitely isn't what Disney was asking for.

Probably not. It's family oriented story. I would love to see him doing proper dark fantasy though (nothing like Legend which is fairy tale).

Tbh the ONE thing i would have loved to see from Ridley, is his 4 hour cut of 1492 Conquest of Paradise.
Years ago he mentioned they were considering releasing it as a mini series on HBO.
But nothing happend, and i have never heard anyhting being spoken about it since.

Cause there is one more journey in the film that is missing, and its where the movie now ends, but in the script, that final journey is in the movie.
Also there are a lot of stills from scenes that are not in the movie.

Oh and also, that Ridley Scott Blood Meridian movie, that was a shame that it never happend!
